Malgré une température plutôt incertaine tout au long de la journée, le promoteur Yan Bussière et son équipe ont travaillé très fort pour présenter une 3^e soirée de course cette saison. La 9^e édition de la soirée « Rêves d’enfants » a permit d’amasser 1 800 $ pour les enfants malades. L’organisation de l’Autodrome Drummond tient d’ailleurs à remercier les gens qui ont participé à l’aventure.

Le programme de course a pris son envol avec une épreuve finale de 20 tours en classe Modlite. La jeune recrue Richard Tessier #85 a remporté sa 1re victoire en carrière, et ce, à son 3^e départ seulement. Le triple champion de la série, Stéphane Raymond #57 a brillé par son absence.

La catégorie Modifié 358 a poursuivi la soirée avec une première finale de 50 tours qui a offert tout un spectacle entre François Bernier #49 et David Hébert #1. C’est finalement, le champion en titre, Hébert qui signe sa 1re victoire de la saison. Au 6^e passage, le gagnant du 15 juin dernier, Sébastien Gougeon #44 a été victime d’un geste antisportif de la part de Clément Therrien #39 qui l’élimine carrément pour le reste de la soirée. Les officiels ont dû intervenir pour calmer les esprits.

Dans la seconde épreuve de 50 tours chez les Modifiés 358, le vétéran Claude Brouillard #3 a mis fin à une absence de 8 ans dans le cercle des vainqueurs à l’Autodrome Drummond. Souffrant d’une hernie discale depuis l’hiver dernier, Brouillard a prouvé qu’il est toujours à la page et peut être un adversaire coriace. Malgré plusieurs neutralisations et les assauts répétés de Dany Bilodeau #23, le Sorelois demeure inébranlable et fil avec enfin une victoire.

Les lightning Sprints ont offert encore une fois tout un spectacle lors de leur épreuve finale de 25 tours, une bagarre de tous les instants entre Éric Sundborg #16 et Mathieu Bourgouin #27 pour la tête, nous a laissé en haleine jusqu’au fil d’arrivée. C’est finalement, Bourgouin qui eus l’avantage, signant ainsi sa 14^e victoire en épreuve finale.

Malheureusement, au 9^e passage de cette épreuve un carambolage s’est produit à l’entrée de la courbe #3, impliquant de nombreuses voitures. Parmi celles-ci, la #6 de René Couture qui a été moins chanceux et du partir en ambulance pour soigner une fracture ouverte au bras gauche. La soirée a été interrompue durant plusieurs minutes pour effectuer le transfert vers l’hôpital Sainte-Croix de Drummondville.

À noter, que le patriarche, René Clair #22 âgé de 73 ans a signé sa 523^e victoire en carrière toutes classes et pistes confondues durant la première qualification de la soirée. Un sommet qui n’est pas près d’être battu.

Impressive Vermont State Victory for Sweet at Devil's Bowl

Mueller in Modified photo finish; Whalen redeemed in Mini Stocks

WEST HAVEN, VT – Nick Sweet completed a memorable back-to-front drive to win the People’s United Bank 100 stock car race at Devil’s Bowl Speedway on Sunday, June 30. The event, which was previously postponed twice by rain, was the second round of the four-race Vermont State Late Model Championship Series and also included NASCAR Whelen All-American Series races won by Jessey Mueller and Mike Whalen, Jr.

Sweet, of Barre, VT, started on the pole position in the 28-car field and engaged in a see-saw battle for the lead with Chip Grenier of Graniteville, VT for the first half of the race. Sweet lined up second next to Grenier before a lap-52 restart, but was forced to duck into the pit area to replace a flat right-front tire, rejoining the field in 22^nd place just seconds before falling a lap behind.

Hunter Bates of Middlebury, VT picked up where Sweet left off, trading the lead – and a few jabs – with Grenier for the next 30 laps while Sweet weaved his way back through traffic during the caution-filled event. Closely behind the Grenier-Bates fight, rookies Josh Masterson of Bristol, VT, Brandon Atkins of AuSable Forks, NY, and Travis Stearns of Auburn, ME showed muscle by running in or near the top-five much of the day.

Sweet reentered the picture during a long green-flag run, passing cars in both the inside and outside lanes. He moved in on Bates and Grenier with 15 laps remaining, taking the lead from Bates at lap 89. A final lap-98 restart was no challenge for Sweet, and he cruised to his first Late Model victory outside his home track at Thunder Road International Speedbowl in Barre, VT.

“This is one that I’m going to cherish for a while,” Sweet said in victory lane. “This is a tough track to have come from the back at, and Chip and the rest of those guys made me work for it.”

Grenier finished second for the second time in as many Vermont State Late Model Championship Series events at Devil’s Bowl, dating back to the Vermont 200 Weekend in September 2012. Masterson, in only his fourth start in a Late Model, finished third. Bates and Stearns were scored fourth and fifth, respectively, after Stearns was given a one-position penalty for rough riding on the final lap. Atkins finished sixth, followed by Emily Packard, Trampas Demers, Eric Chase, and Dan Petronis.

Mueller, of Olmstedville, NY, produced the most impressive drive of his young career in the 35-lap Bond Auto Parts Modified feature. The 18 year-old started in 15^th place on the 20-car grid and drove through the field toward the front as Joe Williams of Scotia, NY held a huge lead.

As Williams navigated heavy lapped traffic in the closing laps, his car’s left-rear tire began losing air, allowing a five-car group that included Mueller to close in. Mueller took to the outside lane as Leon Gonyo, Vince Quenneville, Jr., Ron Proctor, and Todd Stone all fought for position, and flew into second place with two laps remaining. Mueller made a last-corner commitment to the inside lane and was able to beat Williams in a drag race to the finish line, taking the win by 26-thousandths (.026) of a second.

Quenneville, of Brandon, VT, finished third behind Williams, with Chazy, NY driver Gonyo fourth. Stone, of Middlebury, VT, nipped Charlton, NY driver Proctor at the line for fifth place. Jeff Haskins, rookie Jamie LaFountain, Cody Sargen, and pole sitter Jim Introne, Jr. completed the top ten finishers.

Mike Whalen, Jr. bounced back from a four-time rollover last week to notch the first victory of his career in the 15-lap Central Vermont Motorcycles Mini Stock feature. The Plattsburgh, NY driver dominated the race and outdistanced rookie Chuck Bradford of Addison, VT and Jake Noble of Benson, VT for the win. Garry Bashaw of Lincoln, VT and rookie Jason Sabourin of Vergennes, VT were next in line.

Devil’s Bowl Speedway is back in action on Friday, July 5 with the “Coca-Cola Firecracker” Independence Day spectacular at an early 6:00pm start time. The Bond Auto Parts Modified and Late Model divisions will each run special 44-lap features, along with regular championship races for the Renegades and Central Vermont Motorcycles Mini Stocks. Also on the blockbuster card are a 75-lap Enduro Series event and the largest and loudest holiday fireworks show in Vermont. Special general admission is $20 for adults, $18 for seniors, and free for children 12 and under.

Kimmel Wins at Winchester; Ties Iggy Katona's All-Time ARCA Win Mark of 79 Victories

(WINCHESTER, Ind.) -- Frank Kimmel made Winchester Speedway a little more historic Sunday afternoon.

Kimmel won the Herr's Chase the Taste 200 to claim his 79th all-time ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards victory. In doing so, he tied Iggy Katona for the all-time series victory record.

"Every once in a while you have one of those near flawless days," the 51-year-old Kimmel said after a long post-victory celebration. "This was one of those days for us."

It was a remarkable day for the Indiana native, winning for the third time of the season and sixth time at Winchester Speedway. He led 158 laps of the 100-mile, 200-lap event. At the end, he had to hold off a hard challenge from teenager Austin Wayne Self in the AM Technical Solutions Dodge, who finished a length away.

"He had a fast car, but I knew if I didn't make a mistake, held my line and stayed in the middle and didn't spin out or something that he would have a hard time passing me," Kimmel said.

Rounding out the top five were Brennan Poole in the No. 55 Break the Cycle Toyota for Venturini Motorsports, Kyle Weatherman in the No. 11 Rogers Automotive Group/Pat Rogers Harley-Davidson Dodge and Mason Mitchell in the Happy Cheeks-BeavEx-Reliance Tool Ford.

Self said he needed a few more laps to catch Kimmel.

"With a couple of laps to go, I told myself I was either going to win this race or scrape the wall trying," Self said. "We had a really good car. I'm happy with the finish. Now we know what this car can do."

Weatherman advanced 18 spots from his 22nd starting position and led five laps. Menards Pole Qualifying presented by Ansell was rained out on Saturday, meaning Weatherman had to start near the back.

"It's too bad qualifying was rained out," Weatherman said. "We had a really fast car and were able to pass a lot of cars. We have a lot of racing to go."

Poole attributed his top five finish to some nifty changes made by his pit crew and even had to come from a lap down.

"We had a decent car, then lost a lap and got it back," Poole said. "It was a solid finish."

Besides the historic win, Kimmel also extended his point lead because his closest two competitors - Mason Mingus and Tom Hessert - had problems. Hessert rebounded to finish sixth in the Barbera's Autoland Dodge while Mingus settled for 12th, his first time outside the top 10 all season.

The race started under caution as the cars worked to dry the track from a morning rain. Kimmel led those first 10 laps under caution; then, as the race went green, led until lap 106. Mingus finally tracked down Kimmel and made the pass for the lead on lap 107, but got caught up in a lap 128 multi-car crash in turn two. From there, Weatherman inherited the lead, then pitted for four tires, as did all of the lead-lap machines, including Mitchell, who won the race off turn pit road. Kimmel came out on the tail-end of the lead lap cars after a lengthy pit stop for a missed lug nut. Mitchell led for 15 laps until Kimmel took over the lead for good on lap 149.

Kimmel was presented a sign by ARCA Racing Series officials in post-race, commemorating the 79th win. He said he started to think about win No. 79 just before the end of the race.

"It crossed my mind, but then I told myself not to think about it too early," he said. "When I saw the checkered flag, it was a sort of a flood of emotion. It is a big deal."

Kimmel got his first ARCA Racing Series victory in 1994, also on a half-mile track, at Toledo Speedway.

"This is really something to enjoy," he said. "There were some family and friends here. It's Indiana, my home state. Any win at Winchester is great, but this one I'm really going to enjoy."

Driver James Swanson, in the No. 06 GreatRailing.com Ford, was transported to an area hospital for observation. He was soon cleared and released. That was one of five cautions on the day for 47 laps.

The ARCA Racing Series will next travel next to Chicagoland Speedway for the July 21 ActivArmr 150.

Sunday's Herr's Chase the Taste 200 from Winchester Speedway will be broadcast on NBC Sports Network at 11 p.m. Aug. 1.

ARCA's Youth Movement Pulling Double Duty at Winchester; All ARCA Weekend June 29-30

(TOLEDO, Ohio) - Three drivers during this weekend's all ARCA-branded triple header at Winchester Speedway are going to be busier than most, at least behind the wheel. And, fortunately, depending on fitness levels, it should be no problem, because they're all teenagers.

Current championship runner-up driver Mason Mingus, the oldest at 18, 17-year-old Austin Self, and 15-year-old Kyle Benjamin are all entered in both the ARCA CRA Super Series Winchester 100 Saturday, and the Herr's Chase The Taste 200 grand finale Sunday.

As exciting as it seems, the transitions between tours will be, on some level, intense with alternating practice sessions on Saturday leading up to ARCA CRA Super Series qualifying at 4:30, just in time for the quick turnaround for Menards Pole Qualifying presented by Ansell at 5. The ARCA CRA Super Series Winchester 100 follows qualifying at 7.

According to Mingus, the double duty effect - adding the ARCA CRA show on Saturday - will only help him for Sunday.

"I'm really excited about pulling double-duty this weekend," Mingus said. "It's also a blast to drive our late model; but without a doubt, the extra seat time at Winchester this weekend should help me for the ARCA race on Sunday. It's a win-win."

At least Mingus hopes it's a 'win-win', because if he were to win both, he would accomplish something that no other has. In addition, if he wins on Sunday, it would also mark his career-first ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards victory.

He's already been as close as one can get, finishing second at Talladega to race winner Frank Kimmel, and second at Toledo to winner Ken Schrader. Not bad company to keep.

Additionally, Mingus, in nine starts in 2013, has not finished outside the top-10 anywhere. That said, Mingus and the No. 32 Win-Tron Racing team continue to impress.

The recent high school graduate likes his chances at Winchester. The team, led by championship crew chief Mark Rette, has circled Sunday's Herr's Chase The Taste 200 at Winchester as an event where everything could fall right into place.

"Winchester is a great opportunity for me," added Mingus.

"It's a place where the whole team can show what we're capable of. We had a great run going at Salem earlier this season until we were wrecked. With these (Salem and Winchester) tracks being so similar and us bringing back the same car to the track this weekend, I think we should have a strong run."

Mingus knows what it will take to bring home the trophy this weekend at Winchester; he just hopes the circumstances cooperate.

"The key to Winchester is tire conservation. The place is so hard on right front tires. If I can be smart and save our tires until the end, we should have a shot at it."

Mingus, who did double-duty at Winchester in 2012, finished sixth in last year's Herr's Chase The Taste 200, on the lead lap.

Currently, Mingus is 115 points behind nine-time ARCA Racing Series champion Frank Kimmel.

"There are still plenty of races and chances to make up our deficit, so I'm not getting worried, yet. Benjamin, who drives the No. 15 Venturini Motorsports Chevrolet, became the youngest Menards Pole presented by Ansell winner in history in mid-May at Toledo. Benjamin also finished second in his series debut at Mobile in early March, and seventh at Elko in early June. If Benjamin wins Sunday at Winchester, he would become the youngest ARCA winner in history. Currently, James Buescher is the youngest winner at 16 years and 363 days.

Self, who drives the No. 22 Cunningham Motorsports Dodge, finished sixth in his series debut at Toledo.

The Herr's Chase the Taste 200 will also be the first ARCA Racing Series race that will be broadcast on NBC Sports Network. NBC Sports Network's ARCA racing coverage premieres Thursday, August 1, at 11 p.m. ET with the Winchester race.

All three divisions will divide track time Saturday with back-to-back practice sessions beginning at 11:30 a.m. Menards Pole Qualifying presented by Ansell for the ARCA Racing Series is scheduled for 5 p.m., followed by the ARCA Truck Series race at 6, and the ARCA CRA Super Series race at 7.

The Herr's Chase the Taste 200 is scheduled to begin Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m., preceded by pre-race ceremonies at 1:30.

Alors que nous avons déjà couronné notre M. Prostock, nous dénicherons vendredi le 28 juin notre nouveau M. Modifié à moins que François Bernier #49 qui détient le titre depuis 2011 ne le conserve ou que Kayle Robidoux #46 qui l'avait acquis en 2010 ne le reprenne. Je vous laisse spéculer là-dessus. Pour l'instant, Gino Clair #22j a un début de saison similaire à l'an passé avec déjà une victoire à son actif et étant positionné dans les points au rang final de 2012, sixième. Notre tête d'affiche de la semaine pourrait aussi l'emporter en cette soirée qui lui est dédiée. Steve Bernard #54 qui a une première et deux secondes positions derrière la cravate ne manque pas de place pour en mettre d'autres. Alain Boisvert #73 qui a remporté sa première victoire vendredi dernier avec une voiture réglée au quart de tour ne restera pas à l'écart dans cette course avec arrêt au puits.

Grosse semaine pour les Sportsman

Vendredi à Granby et samedi à Drummond les pilotes Sportsman en manque de course à cause de la pluie seront gâtés avec deux programmes réguliers de 25 tours. Certains prolongeront leur weekend, mais il ne sera pas de tout repos. Les lundi 1er juillet et mercredi 3 juillet Mathieu Desjardins #1m et Martin Pelletier #92 poursuivent l'aventure Dirt en Ontario et aux États-Unis. Le trajet pourRansomville est de 15 heures aller-retour en passant par Cornwall. Si l'un d'eux brise son bolide à Cornwall, ils devront y ajouter 4h pour redescendre à Sorel-Tracy et repartir en direction des États-Unis. De plus, ni un ni l'autre n'a de garantie de départ pour la course de Ransomville ne figurant pas parmi les 12 premiers au classement. Les deux pilotes présents à Saint-Guillaume dimanche passé comme spectateurs se sont faits part de leurs intentions mutuelles de s'aider comme à l'habitude puisqu'ils seront à effectif très réduit. Je serai bien sûr du voyage pour en suivre les péripéties et vous en informer aussitôt. Le vendredi suivant à Granby viendra vite...

La Conquête des Sport Compact

Les 4 cylindres nous offriront leur spectacle régulier, mais pas routinier. Jusqu'à maintenant un seul vainqueur, Guillaume Le Conquérant Daoust, mais bien des ennemis prêts au combat : Dominik Blais #45, Patrick Renaud #00, Marc Dagenais #25 et plusieurs autres...

Endurance et innovation

Ce sera le premier Enduro de l'année à Granby. Il est toujours plaisant de voir quelle carrosserie aura été choisie par nos visiteurs. De plus, l'habit ne fait pas le moine et un habile ingénieur aura peut-être LA voiture qu'il faut pour battre les prestigieux Prostocks parmi le lot de semi-pros.

Tourisme Québec soutient le Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières

Québec, le 26 juin 2013. — Le ministre délégué au Tourisme, M. Pascal Bérubé, est heureux d'annoncer l'attribution d'une aide financière de 235 000 $ en appui au 44^e Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières qui aura lieu du 9 au 11 août 2013.

Le Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières est une véritable institution dans le monde de la course automobile. Surnommé « le petit Monaco d'Amérique », il présente une douzaine de courses de haut calibre, sur un circuit en plein cœur des rues de la ville.

Plusieurs grands coureurs automobiles ont fait leur premier tour de piste au Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières. Cette année, les organisateurs sont particulièrement fiers d'annoncer que Jacques Villeneuve, l'ex-champion du monde de F1 renouera avec la tradition familiale en participant à la série NASCAR.

Le Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières se démarque par la très grande proximité qu'il procure aux amateurs, invités à se promener dans les paddocks, à discuter avec les pilotes et à se faire prendre en photos avec les véhicules.

« En plus d'être un événement sportif, le Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières est aussi une immense fête populaire qui anime la ville entière pendant 3 jours. Avec des activités offertes gratuitement au centre-ville et au parc portuaire de Trois-Rivières, les organisateurs ont su développer une offre touristique originale qui attire un grand nombre de visiteurs dans la région », a fait savoir le ministre Bérubé.

L'aide financière accordée par Tourisme Québec provient du Programme de développement de l'industrie touristique – aide financière aux festivals et aux événements touristiques.
