SOUTH PLATTSBURGH – Airborne Park Speedway will usher in its first season as a NASCAR sanctioned asphalt track Saturday, May 4 with the Ernie’s Tools DIRTcar 358-Modifieds returning as the premier division.

“The Modifieds are our mainstay,” promoter Mike Perrotte said. “We’ve made some rule changes and restructured the point fund to give the division a boost. So far, we’ve had a lot of positive feedback about what we’re trying to do.”

In addition to various chassis and suspension rule changes designed to increase the competitiveness throughout the division, Perrotte has announced an innovative method of distributing point fund dollars.

“The top ten drivers in the final point standings will be eligible for a drawing for a $3,000 top prize,” Perrotte explained. “We’ll put the track champion’s name in the hat twice as a bonus for being the point leader. Other than that, everyone will have an equal chance for the biggest point fund check. The other nine drivers will each receive $1,000. We’ll have a fan come out onto the track and draw the winner.”

“I don’t think it’s ever been done before,” Perrotte said. “It gives all the top runners a chance to get the biggest reward. My focus this year is to fortify the Modified division. They are the star attraction and they provide some great racing.”

Two Modified drivers that finished in the top-10 in 2013 - Chris Cayea of Mooers and Maxime Viens of Saint-Cesaire, Quebec - voiced support of the point fund plan.

“It should be interesting for the fans and it spreads the value of a top-10 season around,” Cayea said.

“It seems good to me,” Viens said. “It should help with the car count.”

Airborne’s 61st season opener will feature the Ernie’s Tools 358-Modifieds in the Econo Lodge 50. The speedway has released a 21-event 2014 schedule. For season passes and additional information, call the track office – 518-647-4444 or visit airborneparkspeedway.com.

PASS Opener Set To Make More History At The Legendary Greenville-Pickens Speedway

CHARLOTTE, NC (February 11) – The Pro All Stars Series (PASS) looks to embark on one of its biggest seasons yet as the series season opener approaches on March 1 at the historic Greenville-Pickens Speedway in South Carolina. The PASS National Championship Series will take center stage as the PASS South Super Late Models will be featured in the Fox Carolina 150. A strong field of PASS Pro Late Models will make their first ever trip to Greenville for 50 laps of short track excitement. And, if that was not enough, the strong weekend of racing will also include the first of three companion events with PASS for the Southeast Super Trucks.

Greenville-Pickens Speedway first began hosting stock car races in 1946 after a time in which it operated as a horse racing facility. Man-made horsepower has been the name of the game at GPS for nearly 70 years now. A track made famous by the names of former track champions that now line its walls. Names like Pearson, Earnhardt, Lindley, and Porter just to name a few.

The Fox Carolina 150 will mark a return to the historic half-mile speedway for the PASS Super Late Models for the first time since 2010. Ironically, the first PASS National Championship Series race of 2014 takes place at the same track where the first champion was crowned. Cassius Clark of Farmington, ME held off North Carolina’s John Stancill to become the first ever PASS National Champion in 2008. That came on the heels of Clark winning at GPS in the 2007 Howler 150 when the PASS South Super Late Models first debuted at the speedway. Clark will be back this year at the Fox Carolina 150 to make his first run at the title in a several years.

Alex Haase swept both races at Greenville-Pickens Speedway in 2008 en route to the PASS South Super Late Model championship that year. In 2009, Jay Fogleman outlasted Brian Ickler and Alex Fleming to win the Firecracker 125 in what many have heralded as one of the greatest PASS South races of all time. Fogleman followed his win in July of that year up with a runner-up finish to 6-time PASS North Champion Johnny Clark in the Howler 150 at GPS. Although racing only a limited schedule in 2014 as he pursues a third straight PASS National Championship, Fogleman will no doubt be among the favorites for victory in the Fox Carolina 150.

PASS last visited Greenville-Pickens Speedway in 2010 when Ryan Blaney took his second win of that season in the Firecracker 125. In 2014, the PASS South Super Late Models return for two big events which include the Fox Carolina 150 on March 1 and the 9^th Annual Firecracker 125 on July 3. The PASS Pro Late Models and Southeast Super Trucks will also be in competition on both dates.

Among those pre-entered for the Fox Carolina 150 are two-time PASS South winner in 2013, Tyler Church, third generation racers Jared Irvan and Tate Fogleman, veterans Brandon Ward and John Batten, and rookie contender Matt Daley.

Entries are continuing to come in daily for what looks to be one of the biggest Super Late Model races of the Winter. Entry forms for the Fox Carolina 150 can be found at ProAllStarsSeries.com.

Action gets under way on Friday, February 28^th at Greenville-Pickens Speedway with practice for all divisions from 2-6 PM. On Saturday, March 1^st, pit gates will open at 10 AM for the Fox Carolina 150, with practice from Noon- 3 PM. Qualifying will begin at 4 PM and racing will start at 6 PM, featuring 150 laps for the PASS Super Late Models, 50 laps for the PASS Pro Late Models and 75 laps for the Southeast Super Trucks.

The Fox Carolina 150 will also be available on PASS TV for online pay-per-view purchase through ProAllStarsSeries.com.

Hani Chiniara choisit NASCAR

Tout comme Lyne Valiquette et Stéphane Bourgeois il y a quelques semaines, c'est au tour d'Hani Chiniara de faire l'acquisition d'un nouveau bolide en vue de la prochaine saison. En effet, le sympathique pilote de St-Laurent, vient de mettre la main sur la voiture #96 du regretté pilote Sébastien Dussault qui nous a quitté prématurément l'automne dernier. C'est une voiture pratiquement neuve qui attend Hani, car elle n'avait pas sorti du garage depuis quelques saisons en raison d'une sabatique de Sébastien Dussault lors des dernières campagnes.

Hani Chiniara met aussi la main sur une voiture des plus compétitives, en raison de la haute qualité de construction ainsi que la haute qualité des composantes de celle-ci. «Je vais aux courses pour m'amuser, mais l'an prochain, j'entends bien rivaliser avec les meilleurs à l'avant du peloton», selon les dires du nouveau propriétaire du bolide. De plus, la voiture sera ajustée sur mesure au besoin et à la conduite de son nouveau propriétaire afin de bien performer lors des 10 épreuves du calendrier 2014.

Ayant vendu son bolide à Stéphane Bourgeois durant l'automne dernier, ses projets en vue de 2014 restait en mode questionnement. «2013 a été une saison de remise en question pour moi. J'ai évolué dans la plupart des séries de stock car de la province. J'ai commencé la saison dernière à l'ASE et j'ai terminé ailleurs. Même en vendant ma voiture, il était clair dans ma tête que je serais en piste la saison prochaine. Les différentes séries de haut niveau de stock car du Québec sont toutes très attrayantes, mais mon choix s'est arrêté sur la série NASCAR Sportsman Lucas Oil de l'Autodrome St-Eustache. Le calendrier de 10 courses, la sanction NASCAR, la compétition relevée et l'énergie positive que dégage l'équipe de l'Autodrome St-Eustache sont tous des facteurs importants qui m'ont permis de faire un choix sans équivoque», aux dires d'Hani Chiniara.

Passionné de tout ce qui touche à l'automobile, de l'accélération au stock car en passant par les voitures de collection et au centre de mécanique et de remorquage qu'il possède avec son frère, Hani Chiniara est un mordu. Il n'est pas rare de le voir au cellulaire quelques instants avant d'être en piste, pour ''dispatcher'' ses remorqueuses dans la grande région métropolitaine. Un travailleur acharné, passionné de son travail et de son hobby. C'est donc à l'Autodrome St-Eustache qu'on retrouvera en piste Hani le 24 mai prochain au côté des Martin Lacombe, Jean-Francois Bouvrette, Steve Lagacé et plusieurs autres pour la première épreuve de la saison 2014 du championnat NASCAR Sportsman Lucas Oil du Québec.

Comme le dit l’acronyme ACT, American Canadian Tour, la série de camion nouvellement sanctionné ira faire un tour du coté des États-Unis !

C’est un retour au pays de l’oncle Sam pour les Procam Super Truck puisqu’en 2009 près de 20 camions avaient traversés la frontière pour une première fois. Cette fois si c’est M. Tom Curley qui invite la nouvelle division ACT au Airborne Speedway de Plattsburg, afin de participer à l’évènement le plus important de l’ACT Tour, la classique ACT International qui aura lieu le dimanche 20 juillet.

Une très bonne nouvelle qui complétera un calendrier de 9 courses pour la série Procam Super Truck.

Cette saison les pilotes auront droit à : Un circuit routier, une terre battue, 7 courses sur ovale dont une de l’autre coté de la frontière et une course qui sera télévisé !!!

Grassroots Racing Info Session is the Next Step to Stock Cars Returning to Kawartha Speedway

A strong and enthusiastic crowd of drivers, crew members and team officials escaped the cold, damp conditions of the Canadian winter Saturday, February 1st to gather at Fraserville, Ontario and meet the team looking to bring stock car racing back to Kawartha Speedway for the 2014 season.

The 8 event Grassroots Racing Series information session served as an introduction to the group's principals and a chance to learn what to expect when action returns to the popular 3/8th mile oval Friday, June 6th for the season's first green flag. Promoter Andrew McFadden says he was impressed with the turnout and the interest displayed for this exciting new venture.

"I'll admit to being a little nervous," said McFadden after the meeting concluded. "I think we had strong representation from every division that will be running with us throughout the full series' schedule and most of the feedback seemed to be positive. It's still a pretty steep learning curve and there are some puzzle pieces that need to fall into place, but I got a good feeling once everything wrapped-up."

The group is putting together a proposal to work with drivers to help promote their teams and sponsors and McFadden says he enjoyed the opportunity to break away from the rigid routine of some track meetings and spend some one-on-one time with some of the attendees. Series rulebooks were also made available and nearly all 125 copies were collected by drivers of their designated representative.

"As with any new venture, I'm not saying that we'll do everything correctly," confessed McFadden. "I've assembled a solid team with years of experience at other tracks and I'll be counting on their background to get us through the rough spots. No matter what happens, this an exciting time for everyone and it will be great to have racing back at one of the province's premiere motorsports facilities for 2014 and many years to come."

LA SÉRIE ACT-QUÉBEC S’ADJOINT DEUX QUÉBÉCOIS

Changement important dans la série ACT-Québec alors que l’Americain Canadian Tour annonce qu’à compter de cette saison, le groupe RPM Management Ltée (RPM), une compagnie de Québec, dirigée par un mordu du stock-car et promoteur, Sylvain Brouillette et son partenaire, Jean-François Fredette s’occuperont des affaires quotidiennes en ce qui concerne la promotion et les responsabilités des événements.

On se souviendra que l’ACT avait pris cette série en 2007 alors qu’elle était dans la tourmente et en a fait un succès attirant des foules considérables et couronnant de réputés champions tels que Donald Theetge de Québec, Patrick Laperle de St-Denis-sur-Richelieu, Karl Allard de St-Félicien ainsi que détenteur de la couronne actuelle, Jean-François Déry de Québec.

Brouillette et Fredette sont les copropriétaires et promoteurs de la série de camionnettes Pro-Cam. Ce championnat sera dorénavant sanctionné par l’ACT selon l’entente survenue avec les deux parties. Ils s’occuperont également de la nouvelle entreprise American Racer tire pour les deux championnats. « Il y a quelque temps que nous cherchions de l’aide d’officiels du Québec. Je connais Sylvain Brouillette depuis plusieurs années. Il a été un ardent défenseur de la l’ACT et les équipes de l’ACT-US anticipent de voir l’équipe RPM se joindre à nous pour assurer aux équipes québécoises que la série ACT continuera de maintenir son standard d’excellence pour les amateurs du Québec» de dire Tom Curley, le président de l’ACT.

Une cédule de dix courses, incluant l’Autodrome St-Eustache maintenant sous la bannière Nascar, le tracé de 5/8 de mille du circuit Riverside Speedway ainsi que l’Autodrome Montmagny et l’Autodrome Chaudière seront les hôtes de l’ACT en 2014.

ACT SERIE QUEBEC ANNOUNCES MANAGEMENT CHANGE

Waterbury, VT – The U.S.-based American Canadian Tour (ACT) has announced a management change for its Canadian Late Model stock car series, beginning in 2014. Racing Promotion Management, Ltd. (RPM), a Quebec-based company, led by long-time racing enthusiast and promoter Sylvain Brouillette and his partner Jean-François Fredette, will take over the day-to-day promotion, marketing and event responsibilities for the 2014 season.

ACT took over the struggling Series in 2007, and it has turned into the most exciting stock car racing in Quebec, drawing large crowds and crowning notable champions of the Series like Donald Theetge from Quebec City, Patrick Laperle from Montreal, Ste. Felicien's Karl Allard, and 2013 defending Champion Jean-François Déry from Quebec City.

Brouillette and Fredette are the owners and promoters of the Pro-Cam Truck Series. The Truck Series will become sanctioned by ACT as a part of the new management team's arrangement with ACT. They will also manage the new American Racer tire business for both series. "We have been anxious to get some established help from Quebec officials for some time now. I have known Sylvain Brouillette for many years. He has been a strong advocate of ACT racing, and the ACT US team looks forward to having the RPM team join us in assuring all the fans and teams in Quebec that ACT racing will continue to set a standard of excellence for the fans and teams of Quebec," said the President of ACT, Tom Curley.

A ten race schedule, including the NASCAR-sanctioned Autodrome Ste-Eustache, the5/8^th mile oval outside of Quebec City, Circuit Riverside Speedway, and the third mile and quarter mile ovals in the eastern part of Quebec, Autodrome Montmagny and Autodrome Chaudiere, will all host the ACT Série in 2014.

Stone, Gonyo Receive Top Honors at Devil’s Bowl Ceremony

Capacity crowd recognizes champions and award winners

RUTLAND, VT – Devil’s Bowl Speedway honored the achievements of its star stock car drivers on Saturday, February 1 at the annual Banquet of Champions, held at the Holiday Inn Rutland-Killington in Rutland, VT. The sold-out crowd of nearly 300 guests enthusiastically applauded the champions of the track’s four NASCAR Whelen All-American Series divisions along with the Northern Modified Challenge Series, the Vermont State Late Model Championship Series, and the Enduro Series.

Todd Stone of Middlebury, VT was officially crowned the champion of the headline Bond Auto Parts Modified division after a record-breaking season of 10 victories in 17 starts. Stone’s crew chief Jeff Carter received NASCAR’s UNOH Ultimate Mechanic Challenge prize, and the owner’s championship, won by Gardner Stone, was accepted by long time team member Rob Lowell. Hunter Bates was honored as the Modified division’s runner-up, with Vince Quenneville, Jr. third.

Veteran Modified racer Leon Gonyo of Chazy, NY received a standing ovation and the track’s highest honor with the second annual John Bruno Award. Named in honor of the late multi-time champion driver and owner, the John Bruno Award is given in recognition of a lifetime of achievement in racing while maintaining high standards of conduct on and off the track. Gonyo is a veteran of more than 40 years of racing at several paved and dirt tracks in the U.S. and Canada; the biggest victory of his career came in the 1986 Yankee 200 at Devil’s Bowl Speedway, and he is still a regular weekly competitor at the track.

Chris Bergeron of Claremont, NH collected the Late Model division championship in his first season racing at Devil’s Bowl. The long-time racer’s four wins were enough to fend off rookie Josh Masterson by a scant four points. Another rookie, Brandon Atkins, was third overall. Richie Turner of Fairfax, VT picked up hardware for his Renegade division title, and Benson, VT’s Jake Noble was crowned the champion of the Central Vermont Motorcycles Mini Stock division. Rookie of the Year awards were presented to Modified racer Jamie LaFountain, Late Model driver Masterson, Renegade freshman Brad Bushey, and Mini Stock runner Chuck Bradford.

Brandon, VT driver Quenneville received awards for winning the inaugural championship of the Northern Modified Challenge Series, and Nick Sweet of Barre, VT went home with the Vermont State Late Model Championship. Eric “Mongo” Messier of Hinesburg, VT was also recognized as the first-ever Enduro Series champion at Devil’s Bowl.

Several other special awards were given during the evening, with sportswriter Tom Haley and Devil’s Bowl staff member Jeff Champine among the honorees. Haley received the second annual Award of Excellence for his outstanding coverage of the speedway in the Rutland Herald, while Champine – affectionately known by racers as “The Tire Guy” – received the first-ever Dedication Award for his unwavering commitment to the track. Each received a raucous standing ovation.

Renegade rookie Stephen Donahue provided one of the evening’s several humorous highlights as the Sportsmanship Award winners were announced. Having been in attendance to receive his fourth-place point trophy earlier in the evening, the soon-to-be-16-year-old was absent when his name was announced as a Sportsmanship Award winner. Once he was retrieved from the hotel pool, he returned barefoot and wearing swim trunks to accept his award. Other Sportsmanship awards were given to Modified driver Dave Snow, Late Model rookie Seth Bridge, and Mini Stock veteran Matt Monaghan.

The keynote address was given by Tom Donahue, Executive Vice President and CEO of the Rutland Region Chamber of Commerce, with closing speeches given by legendary broadcaster and race promoter Ken Squier and Devil’s Bowl Speedway promoter Mike Bruno. Prizes were also given prior to the awards ceremony from Bond Auto Parts, Five Star Racecar Bodies, and New England Racing Fuel.

In his speech, Mike Bruno revealed the full 2014 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Schedule, which begins on Sunday, May 4 with the historic Spring Green for the American-Canadian Tour Late Models. Weekly summer Friday night racing begins one week earlier in 2014, on Friday, May 16. Other highlights include the Vermont State Late Model Championship Series on Friday, May 30, the Coca-Cola Firecracker special on Friday, July 4, the third annual C.J. Richards Memorial 67 on Friday, August 1, and the Vermont 200 Weekend season finale on September 13-14.

Bruno also announced the return of dirt track racing with a three-event post-season schedule beginning in late September. Events will be held on Friday, September 26, on Saturday, October 4, and on Saturday, October 18. Further details will be announced soon.
