Jeremy Coulter Looks for a Breakthrough Lucas Oil Sportsman Cup Season

After using the experience gained in a Legends machine and DIRTcar Sportsman-Modified as the building blocks of his career, Jeremy Coulter has found his racing niche in the Lucas Oil Sportsman Cup Series.

 

The 39 year old Lindsay, Ontario native – who now makes his home in Smiths Falls with wife Miranda and daughter Rebecca – is a results driven racer. Hardware earned for the 2008 Canadian Legends' championship and being named 2014 LOSC Rookie of the Year are proudly displayed in his trophy room. Not content to rest on his past accomplishments, the talented wheel twister can't wait to break the seal on a new season of action.

 

"I enjoy the time we spend working on the car and getting things ready to race, but there's nothing like being at the track," said Coulter. "I've met so many amazing people over the years through racing and they've become like an extended family. Competing at different venues through the year allows for a broadened fan base and that's good for the series and all the teams."

 

Jeremy Coulter's Lucas Oil Sportsman Cup Series equipment is a McColl Racing Enterprises chassis, with a McGunegill Engine Performance power plant under the hood. Behind the scenes and at the track, the car – carrying #6, the driver's hockey jersey since the age of 4 – is prepped and maintained by car chief Al Liebert and Brent Litle. Ian Blanchard is the team's raceday spotter. Away from the track, Coulter enjoys golf and hockey. He says he'd like to see the series run an event at Cayuga Speedway and hopes to attend a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event at Bristol Motor Speedway and watch his favourite driver, Dale Earnhardt Jr.

 

"With so many things to enjoy about the sport, there has always been one aspect that I've never cared for," admitted Coulter, who works as a Senior Account Executive with AVG Technologies. "Repairing damaged body panels is probably my least favourite thing about racing. It's a necessary part of short track motorsports, but there are other things the crew and I could be working on that would be a better use of our time."

 

For 2015, the JM Motorsports ride will carry Dodge Challenger bodywork into battle, with sponsorship support from Hinton Dodge Chrysler Jeep. The team will also utilize promotional and media services from Clarke Motorsports Communications throughout the season.

Forecasted heavy rains for Saturday night

PLATTSBURGH, NY – Airborne Park Speedway has postponed the Casella/Morrisonville Septic Night program for Saturday, May 30 due to forecasted heavy rains with the possibility of severe thunderstorms in the area. Weather forecasts call for storms to move in to the Plattsburgh area in the late afternoon and early evening, just as the event is scheduled to begin.

The event was scheduled the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series presented by Yandow's Sales & Service and John Deere, with twin 30-lap J&S Steel Modified features, a Key R-D Trailer Sales Renegade feature, a 50-lap Enduro, and both a regular feature and a bracket-style elimination tournament for the Busch Beer Mini-Modifieds. Those races will be made up at date to be announced later.

Airborne Park Speedway will host an Autocross event for the Sports Car Club of Vermont on Sunday, May 31, rain or shine, followed by an open practice for the Competition Go-Karts at 4:00 p.m., weather permitting.

The NASCAR divisions are next scheduled to return on Saturday, June 13 at 7:00 p.m., as Plattsburgh Ford and Aaron's Rent of Plattsburgh present a 100-lap Renegade feature in addition to Modifieds, Mini-Mods, the Ground Round Late Models, and special feature races for two divisions of the Competition Go-Karts.

ACT Kicks Off New Beginning For Speedway 51

Waterbury, VT—The American-Canadian Tour (ACT) travels to Speedway 51 in Groveton, NH on Saturday, May 30 for the Generation Next ACT 151. Although the ACT Late Model Tour has been to Groveton 12 times previously, the 13th visit will hold a greater meaning, as it marks a new beginning for the ¼-mile oval formerly known as Riverside Speedway.

 

The event will be the first stock car race held at Speedway 51 since it was purchased at auction last November by Joey Laquerre, the winningest driver in the history of Barre, VT's Thunder Road and patriarch of the Laquerre racing family. The auction occurred just one week after Laquerre's grandson, up-and-coming Late Model racer Joey M. Laquerre, died from injuries sustained in an ATV accident.

 

In addition to renaming the track for his grandson's #51 car, Laquerre has spent all winter and spring working on restoring the northern New Hampshire facility to its former glory.

 

"It's a complete change from what the track was to now," Laquerre said. "We started with putting a whole new wall in and all new fencing. We relocated the grandstands and elevated the pits at one end…that took a long time. It was something like 10,000 yards of dirt."

 

ACT's presence at the season opener is significant to Laquerre, whose family is a long-time ACT supporter. Joey M. Laquerre also competed on the Tour, and the 2015 event has been extended from 150 to 151 laps in his honor.

 

"It's very special to have ACT with us," the 71-year-old Laquerre said. "(ACT President) Tom Curley and myself go back to when we were 17 or 18 years old."

 

Defending ACT Tour Champion and current point leader Joey Polewarczyk Jr. leads the series into Speedway 51. "Joey Pole" already has two wins this year, including the most recent event at Airborne Park Speedway, and won the 2013 event at Speedway 51. Number two point driver Wayne Helliwell Jr. will look to gain ground as he chases his first Groveton victory.

 

They'll be joined by Newport, NH's Kyle Welch, the surprise winner of the 2014 event. Welch has endured some tough luck in 2015, losing multiple top-10 finishes to late-race woes. He hopes that the trip to Speedway 51 will help turn his season around.

 

"I'm really, really excited to go back to Groveton," Welch said. "We had a really good car last year, so this race has definitely been circled on our calendar.

 

"The new era of the track is the big thing – just to honor Joey M. Laquerre," he added. "I think the winner is really going to have some pride in this race, whoever it may be. ACT is a tight group, and I hope I can win it for him."

 

Brad Babb will carry the Speedway 51 colors on his Joey Laquerre–owned #15NH as he goes for his second win of the season. Fellow youngsters Emily Packard and Brandon Atkins were strong in their inaugural visits last year and look to build on those performances. Travis Stearns surged to the top of the Bond Auto Parts New Champions standings at the Spring Green 115 and will try to extend that lead. Eddie "The Outlaw" MacDonald is expected to be gunning for his first Speedway 51 win as well.

 

The Generation Next ACT 151 will be held on Saturday, May 30. Pits open at 10:30am, with post time at 5:30pm. Admission is $20 for adults, $5 for kids, and $45 for a family of four (2 adults and 2 kids). Camping will also be available beginning on Friday.

De l'action à prévoir pour le 2e programme Sportsman Québec Lucas Oil

C'est ce samedi, 30 mai que se tiendra le second programme de la saison pour la Série Sportsman Québec à l'Autodrome Chaudière de Vallée-Jonction lors du Sinto 200. 

Pour ce programme, nous attendons une vingtaine de voitures pour deux finales qui vous promettent tout un spectacle. 

En effet, ayant laissé de côté ce type de programme l'an dernier, le promoteur André Poulin reprend la formule cette année pour offrir un deux (2) fois 50 tours en position inversée. En bref, à la fin de la première finale, les pilotes qui seront sur le tour du meneur se verront repositionner en position inversée et se devront d'user de patience et de stratégie pour remonter le peloton. Ce type de programme fort apprécié des spectateurs nous permettra assurément de voir de belles batailles. 

Vous verrez en piste #7 Réjean Blanchet qui lors du dernier programme était en route pour un podium avant d'être impliqué dans un incident de course le positionnant ainsi à la 6e position. Blanchet qui veut se battre cette année pour le championnat sera assurément un pilote à surveiller. 

Il faudra aussi surveiller le #17 Jimmy Nadeau qui a terminé sur la 3e marche du podium au dernier programme. Nadeau qui a connu une saison difficile l'an dernier s'est promis de tout donner pour atteindre les résultats escomptés cette saison. Un pilote expérimenté et très respectueux en piste, mais qui vise aussi d'atteindre la première marche du podium. 

En ce qui concerne nos recrues, le #95 Mickaël Isabelle, qui a terminé au 10e rang du classement à son dernier programme prend de l'assurance de tours en tours. Rappelons qu'avant de faire le saut en Série Sportsman Québec, Mickaël participait en tant que pilote dans la classe Sport Compact Amateur. Il faudra suivre la progression de ce talentueux pilote de 22 ans. 

En ajustement quant aux réglages de sa voiture le #8 Yves Pelchat pourrait aussi nous surprendre. Pilote d'expérience, il ne serait pas surprenant de le retrouver parmi les meneurs lorsqu'il se sera adapté à sa voiture. 

On vous attend pour une journée qui avec les 100 tours ACT/LMS vous promet de l'adrénaline et de à revendre !

Alex Labbé gagne à l'arraché

St-Albert, le 26 mai 2015 – Alex Labbé, le champion ACT Québec en titre, a remporté le St-Eustache 100 couru samedi soir dernier, prenant la tête de la course à la sortie du dernier virage du tout dernier tour, après une course des plus disputées.

Rapide lors des essais puis qualifié troisième, Alex menait une course solide, menant du 30e au 70e tours et demeurant deuxième ou troisième, toujours conscient de posséder une voiture plus rapide que les deux pilotes ayant pris le départ devant lui. Bon deuxième avec quelques 20 tours de piste à faire, Alex s'employa alors à forcer à l'erreur le meneur, nul autre que l'ex-champion de la série, Patrick Laperle. 

Alex savait que passer devant Laperle ne serait pas facile : « Je connais bien Patrick, un pilote d'expérience, et le tracé serré de St-Eustache rend les dépassements ultras difficiles si le pilote en avant décide de bloquer, ce qui un peu normal en Stock-car. »  Plus rapide que Laperle entre les virages 3 et 4, Labbé avait pu se glisser le nez à l'intérieur de Laperle à quelques reprises, mais ce dernier refermait la porte en plongeant vers l'intérieur dans le virage 4.

Arriva ce qui devait arriver au dernier tour  : Laperle a monté un peu plus haut entre les virages 3 et 4, Labbé s'est précipité dans la brèche entrouverte devant lui  et les deux voitures se sont poussées côte-à-côte en sortie du virage 4. Mieux placé à l'intérieur du virage, Labbé a pu traverser le fil d'arrivée en tête, à la grande frustration de Laperle et de son équipe. 

Comme l'indique le vidéo de l'incident (http://youtu.be/8Onldr_Ygj0), la manœuvre décisive de Labbé tirait avantage de la petite erreur de Laperle. En stock-car, attendez-vous à payer le prix si vous êtes nettement plus lent que l'adversaire juste derrière vous en fin de course.

Alex et tout ce beau monde seront de retour en piste à Vallée-Jonction le samedi 30 mai. Beaucoup d'action au programme !

- Autodrome Granby. Après une ouverture de saison avec nos classes régulières, faisons place à notre visite biannuelle : les Empire Super Sprints (ESS) ce vendredi 29 mai 2015.

 

Ess (25 tours)

 

C'est Chuck Hebing #45, champion 2012 qui mène la série Empire Super Sprints en ayant remporté les deux épreuves initiales à Fonda et Utica-Rome. Il n'avait d'ailleurs pas gagné à cette dernière depuis 2012 et à Fonda, il s'agissait de sa première victoire à vie là-bas. Steve Poirier #28FMloge en seconde place du classement grâce à deux… deuxièmes. Le seul autre Québécois de la série est Étienne Girard #422. Il n'a participé qu'à l'épreuve de Fonda où il a eu un bris de moteur qui l'a empêché de prendre part à la course de Utica-Rome. Alain Boisvert #93 partagera sa soirée entre le Sprint et le Modifié, ce n'est pas comme si c'était la première fois ! Paul Kinney 19K qui avait terminé troisième chez nous l'an dernier a confirmé sa présence ainsi que :

Américains : Jason Barney #87, Jeff Cook #10, Dave Axton #2, Matt Tanner #90, Parker Evans #61, Zach Weigand #20, Dylan Swiernik #7C, Dan Douville #7X, Will Hull #61 and Mark Smith #M1.

 

Canadiens : Alain Bergeron #8, Yan Bilodeau #123, Dale Gosselin #3, Guillaume Neiderer #51N, Lee Ladouceur#51, Paul Pekkonen #98. 

 

Il est possible de voir le pilote de Lightning Sprint Jordan Poirier #28 (dans la troisième voiture de son oncle Steve) pour la première fois en Sprint et Michaël Parent #25 de retour dans son Sprint se joindre au peloton.

 

Modifiés (50 tours)

 

Une course de 50 tours à prendre au sérieux, car elle compte pour des points de championnats (100 points en descendant au lieu 60). C'est bien sûr Mario Clair #22C qui a connu la meilleure performance avec une première et une deuxième place vendredi dernier. Si David Hébert #ONE veut battre son record de victoires de l'an dernier, il doit vite s'y mettre ! Voyons si la bonne séquence de Claude Brouillard se poursuivra lui qui a terminé 3ème et 5èmevendredi et 2ème samedi à Drummondville. La recrue Maxime Plante #79 montre qu'il a définitivement sa place dans la catégorie avec une 14ème et une 11ème place sur le tour des meneurs comme premiers résultats à l'Autodrome Granby. 

 

Sportsman (30 tours)

La liste de réparations était longue pour Mathieu Desjardins #1m suite à l'accident de la semaine passée. Tellement qu'il n'est pas allé du côté de Brockville pour la série Seaway. Dany Gagné #90 qui n'a pu se trouver un différentiel manquait aussi à l'appel. Par contre, y étaient 8 Québécois : Martin Pelletier #92p qui a terminé 4ème, Alex Lajoie #33 qui a fini 6ème après être parti 30ème, Matthieu Laramée #91 (8ème), Kaven Poliquin #49 (10ème), Alexandre Salvas #8 (15ème), Étienne Cournoyer #18 (23ème), René Montminy#91P (non classé) et Sébastien Bourque #48B (non classé). La série Lussier Seaway sera chez nous le 10 juillet prochain. Pour participer au tirage, les pilotes doivent s'inscrire à chaque course (100 % de participation). 

Prostock (30 tours)

D'autres belles luttes deux par deux sont à venir dans les prostocks puisqu'Alain Brochu #12 voudra prendre sa revanche sur François Adam #01, le gagnant de vendredi dernier. Stéphane Lemire #115 qui ne veut certes pas rester 3ème dans les points fera tout pour une victoire. Jocelyn Roy #48 aussi voudra sa place parmi les vainqueurs lui qui a rencontré bien des difficultés à Cornwall dimanche visitant plusieurs fois les puits pour terminer 10ème.

Après plusieurs mois d'attente, la nouvelle saison de stock-car sur terre battue à l'autodrome Drummond se mettra en branle samedi soir prochain alors qu'on passera à la vraie saison. Pour l'occasion, vous aurez droit à une finale de 50 tours comptant pour la Super Série Starter du côté de la classe modifié en plus d'un programme complet dans chacune des catégories régulières et de la seule visite des sprint-car 360 de la sérieEmpire Super Sprint(ESS).

L'an dernier, on avait eu droit à l'une des meilleures finales de sprint-car jamais disputées à l'Autodrome Drummond. Le duel entre Steve Poirier et le regretté Kevin Ward jr a laissé tout le monde sur le bout de leur siège! Cette fois-ci Poirier pourrait en avoir plein les bras avec Mark Smith, Jeff Cooke, Paul Kinney pour ne nommer que ceux-ci. Plusieurs pilotes locaux se joindront à eux tel, Alain Bergeron, Étienne Girard, le jeune Yan Bilodeau, Michael Parent, Guillaume Neiderer et Alain Boisvert pourrait être également de la course en sprint-car! Plus d'une vingtaine de voitures sont attendues samedi prochain du côté des ESS.

Du côté des modifié, Steve Bernard le vainqueur de la semaine dernière guidera le groupe lors du 1er départ officiel de 2015. En sportsman, Martin Lessard a obtenu cemême privilège la semaine passée. En lightning-sprint, un bon mélange de pilotes recrues et de vétéran sera en piste comme à chacune des saisons. Souvent cette dernière catégorie offre un spectacle à couper le souffle.

Voilà ce qui se dessine pour l'ouverture de la 65e saison de l'Autodrome Drummond ,soyez donc au rendez-vous, samedi prochain, 30 mai pour la visite annuelle de la série ESS  qui s'ajoutera à la programmation régulière.

A trend that began in 2014 has continued so far this season. The Mini Stock and Paul Davis Systems Thunder Car are the only divisions to have run 2 features and each division has different winners. Danny Benedict and Donovan Price have Mini Stock checkered flags, while Anthony DiBello and Howie Crowe earned Thunder Car wins. The victory by Price was the first of his career in the class. Along the way, Tyler Betts picked-up his first 'A' main in the Earl Ireland Auto Sales Late Model ranks on opening night of the new campaign, while the triumph by Renegade Truck division pilot Tim Burke was also his first. Track owner and promoter J.P. Josiasse says this is a great time to be a Peterborough Speedway race fan. 

 

"We made a number of changes during the off-season," said Josiasse. "Fans might not notice all of them, but they'll see one every time we throw the green flag. The initial start of the race and each subsequent restart now takes place on the front stretch – as the pack comes off the 4th turn – where everyone can see what's going on. Fields have been very competitive and it's created some edge of your seat excitement for the crowd."

 

The tight, tricky bullring on Mount Pleasant Road, west of the Liftlock City has some marquee events remaining on this year's calendar. On a rare Sunday afternoon, the Chase for the Colours Pole Qualifier – with extra distance shows for the Battlefield Equipment Rental 4Fun, Mini Stock, Paul Davis Systems Thunder Car and Earl Ireland Auto Sales Late Model divisions – goes green at 2:30 June 28th. A 100 lap APC Pro Late Model Series is scheduled forSaturday, July 18th and the annual visit by the Lucas Oil Sportsman Cup Series rolls from the staging area Saturday, August 8th.

 

In addition to this Saturday, May 30thToonie Grandstand Admission/Fan Appreciation Nights – presented by Pepsi – also take place July 11th and August 15th. On each occasion pit gates open at 2:00, with the spectator areas unlocked at 4:00 and racing at 5:00.
