WEST HAVEN, Vt. – Devil's Bowl Speedway's landmark 50th season will be one to remember in 2016.  Officials have overhauled the stock car racing schedule for the historic Rutland County facility, and the calendar will be packed with exciting, family-oriented, NASCAR-sanctioned events on both of Devil's Bowl's race tracks – a fast half-mile paved oval and a tight three-tenths-mile clay oval – situated on Route 22A in West Haven, Vt.

The asphalt will make a big change as it moves to a new Saturday night slot at 6:00 p.m.beginning on May 21; the track had previously operated on Fridays.  The Bond Auto Parts Modified division will again headline the program in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series presented by Yandow Sales & Service and John Deere, along with Central Vermont Motorcycles Late Models, Brileya's Chrysler-Jeep Renegades, and Portland Glass Mini Stocks.

Highlight events will include the return of the American-Canadian Tour Late Models for the People's United Bank 100 on June 4, the Coca-Cola Firecracker Spectacular on July 2, the fifth annual C.J. Richards Memorial 67 Modified event on August 6, and the Vermont 200 Championship Weekend on September 10-11.

The Dirt Track at Devil's Bowl will also see big changes in its third season as the schedule sees a major expansion to 13 events primarily on Sunday evenings at 6:00 p.m.  The Dirt Track is scheduled to open on Sunday, May 22 and will also compete under NASCAR Whelen All-American Series sanction with the Sportsman Modified class as the headline division.  Support classes will include the Renegade and Mini Stock divisions and appearances by other divisions including the Sprint Cars of New England tour.

Dates for major special events on The Dirt Track will be announced soon, including The Stove Depot "King of the Clay" Sportsman 100 and the second annual Green Mountain Sprint Car Nationals.  The asphalt and dirt tracks will run on back-to-back nights on eight different weekends during the season.

"This schedule is something that we're really proud of, and I personally can't wait for the 50th season of racing at Devil's Bowl," promoter Mike Bruno said.  "There are still many more announcements that we'll be making during the winter that will only add to the excitement."

There's a great way to a smile on the face of your favourite short track race fan during the holiday season.

 

Staff and officials at Canada's Toughest 3rd of a Mile Paved Oval have their sights set on another exciting year of action and are offering the chance to take turn some laps behind the wheel in a ride with the Peterborough Speedway Driving Experience.

 

With a resume that includes a win in the Hangover 150 endurance event at Ransomville Speedway and a number of top 10 finishes during this year's events on the Southern U.S. PASS Late Model tour, track owner/promoter J.P. Josiasse will guide participants through classroom sessions before sending them to the track to get the feel of a real racing machine.

 

"We're not looking to discover the winner of the next Daytona or Indianapolis 500," said Josiasse. "Each week, there are people watching from the grandstands who'd love to know how it feels to battle for the checkered flag in the middle of the pack and this is the perfect way to scratch that itch."

 

Josiasse says the Peterborough Speedway Driving Experience cars are fully equipped, 4-cylinder racing machines; on parallel with those regularly used in the track's Mini Stock division. Fitted with manual or automatic transmissions, professional motorsports seats and 5-point racing harnesses, participants can just show-up and drive – in the half-day beginner course or full-day corporate package – with safety apparel, including helmets and driving suits available at the track.

NASCAR Pinty's Series 2016 Schedule Announced

Toronto Returns To Canadian Calendar

 

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Dec. 16, 2015) – NASCAR announced today the NASCAR Pinty's Series schedule for 2016, the 10th season for the series and the first with entitlement sponsorship from Pinty's Delicious Foods Inc.

 

The slate features 12 events across five Canadian provinces, highlighted by a NASCAR Camping World Truck Series companion event for the fourth year in a row at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park and a return to the country's largest market for Honda Indy Toronto weekend.

 

The season will open for the fourth year in a row at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park's road course on May 22 and will return there on Sept. 4 to join the Camping World Truck Series.

 

Kawartha Speedway has played host to the last race on the schedule each of the previous nine years of the Pinty's Series, and that tradition will continue in 2016 with the season finale on Sept. 17.

 

The series made its first two appearances on the Honda Indy Toronto race card in 2010 and 2011. Ontario's largest annual sporting event is held by Toronto's Lake Ontario waterfront on the Exhibition Place street course. The Pinty's Series will headline the action on July 16.

 

The remainder of the 2016 schedule includes:

  • Visits to NASCAR-sanctioned weekly oval tracks Sunset Speedway (June 18) in Ontario and Autodrome St-Eustache (Sept. 10) in Quebec.
  • Annual western swing once again features Alberta's Edmonton International Raceway (July 23) – also a NASCAR-sanctioned oval – and Saskatchewan's Auto Clearing Motor Speedway (July 27).
  • Road course dates in Quebec at Circuit ICAR (July 3) and Circuit de Trois-Rivieres (Aug. 14).
  • Appearances at two of Canada's premiere oval tracks with Autodrome Chaudiere (June 11) in Quebec and Riverside International Speedway (Aug. 20) in Nova Scotia.

 

The 2015 season concluded with Scott Steckly crowned as the champion for the fourth time in the last eight seasons.

 

Next year's NASCAR Whelen Modified and Whelen Southern Modified Tour schedules, as well as those for the NASCAR K&N Pro Series, are nearing completion and release. The 2016 television broadcast schedules for each of NASCAR's regional touring series will be announced at a later date.

Nomination: Dany Mayrand, signaleur en chef NASCAR 2016

C'est avec un sentiment de fierté que nous annonçons aujourd'hui la nomination de M. Dany Mayrand à titre de Signaleur en chef NASCAR de l'Autodrome St-Eustache pour la saison 2016.

Depuis ses débuts en 1984 à l'Autodrome Laval, Dany Mayrand a compilé différentes tâches d'officiel de course, mais il s'est surtout fait connaitre des amateurs en agitant ses drapeaux dans la tour de l'Autodrome St-Eustache et aux quatre coins du Québec.

Expérimenté et compétent, Dany est reconnu comme un des meilleurs de sa profession au Québec et au nord des États-Unis.


En 2016, il effectuera un retour à la ''maison'', ayant passé la majorité de sa carrière du côté de l'Autodrome St-Eustache.

Une première réunion pour l'Autodrome Chaudière

C'est ce dimanche, 13 décembre au Méchoui International que s'est tenu la première rencontre des classes locales de l'Autodrome Chaudière en vue de la saison 2016.

Sur place, on retrouvait plus de 50 pilotes des classes Sport Compact Amateur, Sport Compact Élite et Limité.

M. André Poulin a expliqué le contexte d'ouverture de la piste pour la saison 2016. Le but premier était d'assurer une continuité des activités afin de conserver la valeur de la piste pour d'éventuels acheteurs. M. Dany Lagacé et M. Kevin Roberge ont toujours comme premier objectif la vente de l'Autodrome Chaudière. Actuellement le groupe « Sauvons l'Autodrome Chaudière » est toujours actif et continu ses démarches dans le but de réunion les investisseurs nécessaires afin de déposer l'offre d'achat finale.

Dans ce sens, M. André Poulin sera un salarié pour le groupe Lagacé-Roberge et sera en charge des opérations de la piste pour la saison 2016.

Les 3 classes locales actuellement présentes à l'Autodrome Chaudière sont invitées à revenir pour la saison 2016. Les Sport Compact Amateur continuent leur progression et leur mission première de développer des pilotes pour les autres classes.

Quant au Sport Compact Élite, avec une moyenne de plus de 20 voitures par programme, elle est sans aucun doute la classe locale la plus en santé. Ayant la même règlementation à travers la province cela permet d'augmenter le « car count ».

En ce qui concerne la classe Limité. Bien que cette classe ait connu beaucoup de difficulté au cours des dernières années, M. André Poulin tient à souligner les efforts de plusieurs pilotes afin d'augmenter le nombre de voitures en piste. Ayant répondu au minimum de 12 voitures en piste lors des 3 derniers programmes de la saison ainsi qu'à la visite à l'Autodrome Montmagny, leur retour sur l'ovale de Vallée-Jonction est donc possible.

C'est avec fierté que nous pourrons compter sur le retour d'Oricom Internet comme commanditaire principal du fonds de points de la classe Sport Compact Amateur et Élite pour 2016. Partenaire fidèle et présent aux courses,  c'est un privilège de pouvoir à nouveau compter sur leur support.

Actuellement, nous sommes à la recherche d'un commanditaire principal pour la classe Limité.

Tout comme l'an dernier, les pilotes ayant participé à au moins 80% des courses pendant la saison seront éligibles au fond de points.

Bien que l'équipe d'officiels ne soit pas encore finale, M. André Poulin a pu confirmer le retour de Marcel Labbé comme officiel de puits. M. Pierre Lessard sera aussi de retour. En plus d'être en charge de la gestion des puits lors des programmes, M. Lessard sera conjointement responsable des classes locales avec Marie-Claude Levasseur. Mme Levasseur prend sous sa responsabilité les statistiques, le classement ainsi que le côté administratif des 3 classes en plus de son poste de relationniste.

De retour pour une 2e saison, David Pichette qui agissait à titre de signaleur lors de la saison dernière devient le nouveau directeur de course suite au départ de Stéphane Bacon.

Les autres membres de l'équipe seront annoncés sous peu.

Élections des représentants des classes

Pour la saison 2016, les représentants des classes locales ont été désignés pour la classe Sport Compact Amateur et Limité. Quant au Sport Compact Élite, c'est à la réunion de mars que les représentants seront choisis. Une réunion sera planifiée en janvier afin de finaliser certains changements aux règlements techniques ainsi qu'aux procédures de courses avec les représentants. Bien que peu de changements soient prévus, le livre de règlements sera disponible aux pilotes d'ici le 15 janvier 2016.

Calendrier 2016

Étant en attente actuellement des dates prévues pour la cédule ACT-LMS, nous ne pouvons à l'heure actuelle confirmer le calendrier officiel pour la prochaine saison. Par contre, M. André Poulin a confirmé que chacune des classes locales aura entre 7 et 8 courses. Aucun programme ne sera organisé sur d'autres pistes pour le championnat de l'Autodrome Chaudière. Dans le but d'alléger et de diminuer la longueur des programmes, une seule classe principale (Sportsman, ACT ou autres) sera présente et les classes locales seront jointes à celle-ci pour un maximum de 4 classes par programmes.

Campagne de financement

Dans le but de soutenir et d'encourager le financement de la saison des classes locales, une campagne de financement est mise sur pied. Les pilotes désireux d'y participer pourront vendre des billets au coût de 10$. Avec des prix forts intéressants tels qu'un voyage organisé pour la course de  Daytonna 2017. Pour les pilotes qui étaient absents et qui aimeraient s'en procurer, veuillez communiquer avec André Poulin au 581-998-7388.

 

 

Fonctionnement 2016

La direction de l'Autodrome Chaudière actuelle a mis en place une ligne directrice concernant le fonctionnement des classes locales.

Chaque pilote devra se procurer une carte de membre au coût de 50$ qui lui donnera une entrée gratuite par programme où sa classe est présente ainsi qu'à des frais de déplacement qui sont calculés en fonction de la ville du pilote.

De 101 km à 150 km : 30$

151 km et plus : 50$

Comme mentionné plus haut les fonds de points sont de retour dans chacune des classes, et ce pour les pilotes participant à 80% et plus des courses. Pour la classe Sport Compact Élite, il y aura fort possiblement un retour de la Triple Couronne, mais celle-ci se déroulera entièrement à l'Autodrome Chaudière.

Le nombre de tours par programme sera déterminé par le nombre de voitures présentes donc, plus de voitures, plus de tours.

Il a été décidé par la direction actuelle qu'il n'y aurait aucune bourse dans les classes locales pour la saison 2016. Dans l'éventualité où l'Autodrome Chaudière serait vendu, il en reviendra aux nouveaux propriétaires de déterminer leurs procédures.

Seven Touring Titlists Close Out 2015 In Spotlight

 

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Dec. 12, 2015) — Three young, rising stars received their first NASCAR championships, and four veteran drivers added to their already impressive resumes.

 

On a night where the remarkable achievements of 2015 were recognized, it was seven drivers who stood on stage at the Charlotte Convention Center Saturday at the conclusion of the NASCAR Touring Series Night of Champions who accomplished the sport's ultimate honor.

 

"After my first championship in 2012, nine-time NASCAR champion Mike Stefanik shook my hand and said to me, 'You know they don't just hand these things out to anyone,' and that's something that has stuck with me every time I have been here," said Doug Coby, who celebrated his third NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour title Saturday.

 

The evening was a coronation for Coby and six fellow 2015 NASCAR touring series champions:

 

NASCAR Whelen Euro Series champion Ander Vilariño, NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 champion Scott Steckly, NASCAR Mexico Series champion Rubén García Jr., NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour champion Andy Seuss, NASCAR K&N Pro Series West champion Chris Eggleston and NASCAR K&N Pro Series East champion William Byron.

 

For 26-year-old Eggleston and 17-year-old Byron, their NASCAR K&N Pro Series trophies were the results of once-in-a-lifetime opportunities in their young careers that they transformed through skill and determination into a championship run.

 

Eggleston's first full season with Bill McAnally Racing produced the sixth NASCAR K&N Pro Series West title for the venerable car owner. Byron joined the likes of NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers Joey Logano and Kyle Larson in simultaneously earning the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East crown and Sunoco Rookie of the Year honors.

 

García completed a four-year run that took him from NASCAR Mexico Series rookie of the year in 2012 to the series champion, as he clinched the title in the season finale just one day after his 20th birthday.

 

García and Byron are members of the NASCAR Next program – an industry initiative designed to spotlight the sport's best young talent.

 

As Eggleston, Byron and García received their championship rings from NASCAR Vice Chairman Mike Helton, the other four have made a steady habit of collecting hardware. Combined, they've won 12 titles since 2008.

 

Coby continued his amazing career resurgence. The 36-year-old from Milford, Connecticut, has raced on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour for all or part of 14 seasons. In the last four, though, he's earned three championships and one runner-up finish.

 

Steckly, 42, from Milverton, Ontario, hasn't finished worse than fourth in the championship standings over the last nine years. He led an astonishing 1,090 laps over 11 races – winning three times – en route to the Canadian national title.

 

A year after watching Anthony Kumpen grab the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series crown, Vilariño wrestled it back for his third championship in the series' four-year history under the NASCAR banner. The 36-year-old from San Sebastian, Spain, added three more victories to his series record win total.

 

"The third time here…am I dreaming right now?," Vilarino pondered in his acceptance speech. "Losing the 2014 championship by just one point was hard to accept, and that puts this 2015 championship as the best of the three I've won."

 

Seuss, a 28-year-old Hampstead, New Hampshire, native became just the third driver in NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour history to win back-to-back championships. Seuss has finished in the top five in points in each of the last eight seasons and is second only to four-time tour titlist George Brunnhoelzl III in career wins.

 

The championship car owners and crew chiefs were also recognized Saturday night.

 

Those weren't the only trophies handed out, though.

 

In addition to the championship awards, each series rookie of the year was honored. The Sunoco Rookie of the Year Award winners were Byron, Noah Gragson in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West, Chase Dowling in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour and Trey Hutchens III in the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour. Top rookie performers in the three international series were Gary Klutt in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series, Manuel Gutierrez in the NASCAR Mexico Series and Alon Day in the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series.

 

The Most Popular Driver Awards for each series were also presented during the ceremony. The seven drivers honored with the award, which was voted on by the fans through NASCAR.com, were Rico Abreu in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East, Nicole Behar of the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West, Jason Hathaway in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series, Rodrigo Marban of the NASCAR Mexico Toyota Series, Alon Day from the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series, Melissa Fifield from the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour and Hutchens from the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour.

 

The top-10 drivers and car owners from each of NASCAR's touring series also were recognized during the gala.
