AIRBORNE PARK SPEEDWAY - SEASON PREVIEW

  

PLATTSBURGH — The future of Airborne Park Speedway was in doubt following the 2015 racing season.
John Walker, however, leased the speedway in the off-season and put plans for 2016 into motion.  
This season will feature some divisional realignment. The Ernie's Discount Tools Sportsman Modifieds will be the headline division with the Jeffords Steel Renegades the second tier division, replacing the Late Models. Two four-cylinder divisions will be racing this season — the Busch Beer Mini Modifieds and a beginner Strictly Stock division. The Strictly Stock division will be for drivers with less than three years of racing experience. All divisions will compete in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series, presented by Fidelis Care of New York.
The 2016 campaign kicks off May 7 with a 5 p.m. post time. Opening day will feature the first CAN/AM Challenge of the year for the Sportsman Modifieds. Drivers from the Province of Quebec will challenge the Airborne sportsman modified contingent in an extra distance 75 lap main event. The Renegades, Mini Mods and Strictly Stocks will also be in action.
The American Canadian Tour (ACT) will make its one and only stop on May 14 for the ACT Spring Green 116, presented by Egglefield Ford. The ACT Late Models will run 116 laps in the fourth event on their tour schedule. All regular divisions will also be in action.
May 21 will be Little League Night, presented by Bailey Ford. All Little League baseball players who show up with their team jersey on will be admitted free of charge. In addition, the Sportsman Modifieds will run twin 25-lap features. Renegades, Mini Mods and Strictly Stocks will also be in action.
Last season, there was no Memorial Day Weekend race for the first time in the track's history. This year there will be a two-day event, presented by Econo Lodge and After Hours Imagining.
            On Saturday, May 28, there will be a regular card of racing, with an incentive for the Sportsman Modifieds. The top five finishers in Saturday's sportsman modified feature will be automatic qualifiers for the 358 DirtCar Modified main event that will take place on Sunday.
            The 358 Modifieds will headline the card on Sunday under the direction of Mike Perrotte. Some familiar faces will be making their return to Airborne. The Wesley Moody stables will have two cars prepared for the race, with Patrick Dupree piloting one of the machines. George Foley, Jessey Mueller, Aaron Bartemy, Adam Bartemy, Chris Cayea and Kevin Broderick have already committed to the event as well. The Renegades, Mini Modifieds and Strictly Stocks will also race on Sunday.
June 4 will be highlighted by twin 25-lap events for the Sportsman Modifieds, presented by Huntley Trucking. The Renegades, Mini Mods and Strictly Stocks will also be in action.
The Renegades will be in the spotlight on June 11 when they will run a 50 lap feature event around the Airborne half mile, presented by Sunoco Race Fuels. The Sportsman Modifieds, Mini Mods and Strictly Stocks will also be in action.
Kids Night will be June 18, presented by Sweet Frog. All kids 12 and under will be admitted free of charge. During intermission, there will be kids bicycle races on the front stretch. A regular night of racing is on tap for the Sportsman Modifieds, Renegades, Mini Mods and Strictly Stocks.
A regular night of racing is scheduled for June 25, presented by Whelen Engineering. Volunteer Fire and EMS will be admitted free of charge with proper identification. The Sportsman Modifieds, Renegades, Mini Mods and Strictly Stocks will be in action.
July 2 will be the Fourth of July Celebration, presented by Bill McBride Chevrolet. A gigantic fireworks display will cap off the night. The Sportsman Modifieds, Renegades, Mini Mods and Strictly Stocks will be in action.
Fidelis Care of New York will present Mid-Season Championships on July 9. The Sportsman Modifieds, Renegades, Mini Mods and Strictly Stocks will run.
The Renegades will once again run the main event on July 16, during a racing card presented by Island Excavation. The Renegades will run a 100 lap feature, their longest distance race of the season. The Sportsman Modifieds, Mini Mods and Strictly Stocks will all compete.
Following a week off for the Clinton County Fair, racing actions resumes on July 30 with a Canadian Invasion from the Autodrome St Eustache Limited Late Models, presented by Espos Diesel. A familiar face will be competing as Plattsburgh's Robin Wood will be piloting his number 61. The regular racing divisions will also be on the card along with the RevStar Speedsters.
August 6 will be an opportunity for the fans to show off their driving skill. Spectator racing is back, along with Sportsman Modified twin 25-lap features, presented by Vertigo Motorsports. The Renegades, Mini Mods and Strictly Stocks will also take part.
Scout Night is scheduled for August 13, presented by Poirier's True Value. All Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts in uniform will get in free of charge. The Renegades will battle for 50 laps that evening. Also on the card are the Sportsman Modifieds, Mini Mods and Strictly Stocks.
Military Appreciation Night is set for August 20, presented by Aaron's. All active and retired military members will be admitted free of charge, with proper identification. The Sportsman Modifieds, Renegades, Mini Mods and Strictly Stocks will have a regular night of racing.
The mechanics will receive their chance to get behind the wheel on August 27, presented by Plattsburgh Ford. Mechanics races and Sportsman Modified twin 25-lap features are scheduled. The Renegades, Mini Mods and Strictly Stocks will be in action.
The Labor Day CAN/AM Challenge is scheduled for September 3, presented by Rene's Repair. Drivers from the Province of Quebec and Airborne regulars will go at it for 75 laps. The Renegades, Mini Mods and Strictly Stocks are also scheduled.
The final event of the 2016 racing season will be the Leon Gonyo Memorial presented by Ford Racing. Gonyo was a longtime supporter and competitor at Airborne and the race that bears his name will decide the 2016 Sportsman Modified track championship. This will also serve as the final point counting event for the Renegades, Mini Mods and Strictly Stocks.
Regular season ticket prices will be $10 for adults, $3 for kids ages 6-12 and a family pass (2 adults and 2 kids) for $22. Note that Opening Day 5/7, ACT 5/14, Memorial Day Weekend 5/28 & 5/29, July 4 Celebration 7/2, Canadian Invasion 7/30, Labor Day CAN/AM 9/3 and Leon Gonyo Memorial 9/17 will all have special event pricing.

Waterbury, VT – After a convincing victory at Oxford Plains Speedway last Sunday, Bobby Therrien is looking to continue his hot start as American-Canadian Tour (ACT) takes the green flag this Sunday, April 24 at Lee USA Speedway with the annual New Hampshire Governor's Cup 150. The NH Governor's Cup, which was postponed due to weather in early April to start 2016 racing season, has been the traditional ACT opener since 2008, and with 12 different winners in the previous 13 ACT Late Model Tour events at the 1/3-mile speedway, the stage is set for another unpredictable and exciting event.

 

Four of the last six NH Governor's Cup winners – Miles Chipman (2010), Jimmy Hebert (2013), Eddie MacDonald (2014), and Wayne Helliwell, Jr. (2015) – have entered the event. Each hopes to become just the second repeat ACT Late Model winner at Lee.  

 

The four will have plenty of challengers trying to add their names to the Lee USA record books. Colchester, VT's Scott Payea now pilots the RPM Motorsports car that Brian Hoar drove to back-to-back NH Governor's Cup wins in 2011 and 2012. Windham, ME's Brad Babb was the runner-up in the 2015 Governor's Cup and hopes to do one spot better in 2016. Kyle Welch and Rich Dubeau also turned in impressive performances at Lee in 2015 and could challenge for the win.

 

A number of other top ACT Late Model drivers will join the Tour regulars in chasing the Cup. Former Série ACT Champion Alex Labbe aims to become the first Canadian ACT winner at Lee since 2004. Defending Vermont Milk Bowl winner Nick Sweet will be at the wheel for Mad Dog Motorsports while White Mountain Motorsports Park Late Model standouts Quinny Welch, Oren Remick, and Glenn Martel have also entered the event. Former Thunder Road Late Model winners Scott Dragon and Boomer Morris as well as former Beech Ridge Pro Series Champion Dave Farrington will also be gunning for the top spot at Lee.

 

The ACT Late Model Tour opens the 2016 season at Lee USA Speedway on Sunday, April 24 with the New Hampshire Governor's Cup 150. Post time is 1:15pm with the pit gates opening at 8:00am and the grandstands at 9:00am. The Northeast Mini Stock Tour and Northeast Classic Lites will also be in action. Admission is $25 for adults, $23 for seniors, and $15 for juniors ages 13-16. An open practice session for all divisions will be held Saturday, April 23.

Le pilote de Sport Compact Élite, Julien Bernier, a décidé de s'impliquer auprès de la 

classe Amateur par le biais de son entreprise POW pour remettre au pilote ayant effectué 

la meilleure remontée en finale un montant de 50$ par course. Impliqué dans le stock-car 

depuis plusieurs années comme pilote, comme équipier et aussi comme commanditaire de 

certains pilotes, Julien Bernier voulait faire sa part pour encourager la relève. Project On

CHARLOTTE, NC (April 19) – The Tour-type Modifieds of the Southern Modified Racing Series Presented By PASS will be back on track this Friday night at Ace Motor Speedway.  The Ace Of Diamonds Presented By The North-South Shootout will once again pit some of the toughest Modified racers in the country against one another with $4,000 to win and $500 to start.

Walnut Cove, NC's Burt Myers is one of the top names in southeast Tour-type Modified racing and has seen great success at Ace Motor Speedway in the past.  After a strong start to the 2016 season, the multi-time Bowman Gray Stadium champion is excited about his chances for an SMRS win on Friday night at Ace.

"If the first race was a sign, the Southern Modified Racing Series will be a good series," says Myers.  "We look forward to coming to one of my favorite tracks on Friday night at Ace.  The track is a little tight, but fun."

Massachusetts' driver Jonathan McKennedy found himself in the right place at the right time when the rains began at Hickory Motor Speedway to take the inaugural SMRS win in the Easter Bunny 125.  That victory gives McKennedy the SMRS points lead as the series heads to Ace Motor Speedway on Friday night.

"Hickory was a good win for us because there was a good field of cars and lots of fans that attended the race," says McKennedy.  "All weekend down there we had good speed and when it was time to go after the pit stop I was able to grab the lead. Hickory has got a lot of history and to win for the first time there, against a majority of drivers and teams that have raced there a bunch, it says a lot I think."

Like Hickory, Friday night will be the first time McKennedy will have the opportunity to race at Ace Motor Speedway.  And, if his success at Hickory is any indication, McKennedy will be one of the contenders for the win on Friday night.

"I'm looking forward to Ace, it should be a good track for me," says McKennedy.  "Some of the people I talked to said the track is shaped like a paper clip and is pretty tight.  It seems like it's more of a technical track than most.  Braking points and how you drive across the apex to keep drive in the car will be important."

In addition to McKennedy, the entry list continues to grow by the day for the Ace Of Diamonds Presented By The North-South Shootout.  Burt Myers, along with his brother, Jason, have entered as well John Smith, Brandon Ward and a strong group of Southern Modified drivers including Bobby Measmer, Jr., Chase Hunt, Mike Norman, Brian Loftin, Jimmy Wallace, and Jason Tutterow.

The Southern Modified Racing Series Presented By PASS will hit the track this Friday night at Ace Motor Speedway, with grandstands opening at 6 PM, an on-track autograph session at 7:45 PM, and racing starting at 8:15 PM.  Along with the SMRS Tour Modifieds, the Mid-Atlantic Limited Late Models will also be in action as well as the Southern Outlaw Street Stocks, USAC Eastern Midgets, and Mini Stocks.

WEST HAVEN, Vt. – Portland Glass, a New England-based industry leader, is back for its second season of stock car racing at Devil's Bowl Speedway in 2016.  The company joined Devil's Bowl last year and returns for all 27 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series (NWAAS) events scheduled for the speedway's 50th season, with racing beginning on the half-mile Asphalt Track on Saturday, May 21 and on the 3/10-mile Dirt Track on Sunday, May 22.

Portland Glass will again present racing in the Mini Stock division, which anticipates a sharp increase in car count.  Designed to be an economical, entry-level class, Mini Stocks are production compact cars with safety modifications only; popular models include the Dodge Neon, Chevrolet Cavalier, Honda Civic, and Ford Focus.  Mini Stocks are classified in the NWAAS "Division IV" category, and with Devil's Bowl's dual-surface NASCAR sanction in 2016, drivers have more opportunities to collect points while chasing the national championship against drivers from more than 60 tracks throughout North America.

Chris LaVair of Gabriels, N.Y., won the Devil's Bowl Asphalt Track championship last year and ranked 17th in Div. IV national standings. LaVair says he wants to win the 2016 national title and will run the full schedule on both tracks at Devil's Bowl.  He'll jump start his point total by traveling to South Carolina to race at NASCAR-sanctioned tracks Greenville-Pickens and Anderson before the local season begins.

LaVair's father, Harold, has purchased a Subaru that Chuck Bradford drove to the 2014 Devil's Bowl title, and will be joined on the pavement by veterans Andrew FitzGerald, Brad Bertrand, Kyle Sorensen, and Kyle Watrous.  Rookies include former Enduro Series champs Brett Wood and Eric Messier, and Wood's son, Zach.

On the Dirt Track side, the brothers Bishop enter the new season perched at the top.  Brian Bishop of Bridport, Vt., won his first championship a year ago, with older brother Justin Bishop finishing third overall.  They'll face Chris Cardarelli, former two-time Devil's Bowl champion Mike Clark, and many others.

In less than a month, a new year of action rolls to starting line at Brockville Ontario Speedway and all indications point to another thrilling campaign at the 3/8th mile clay speed plant on Temperance Lake Road.

 

Even with the annual Racing Preview Show, the 2015 award's banquet and this year's edition of the Walmart Fan Fest in support of CHEO crossed-off the 'things to do' list, track owner and promoter Paul Kirkland and his team have been kept busy posting great news about the upcoming season to the venue's social media sites.

 

"The best part about having good news is being able to share it," Kirkland said with a smile. "Everyone is really pumped-up and on both sides of the fence, we're moving in a positive direction toward the Saturday, May 14thseason opener."

 

Kirkland says that in the grandstands they've made a change to make a night at the races more family friendly financially. In past years, children under 12 were admitted free with an adult. This year, children 14 and under get in free with their parents. The price for a season pass remains at $195 for 18 Saturday night events, excluding the Fall Nationals.

 

After making about a handful of starts in 2015, Mike Adderley will return to the weekly wars in the 358 Modified division. In other Mod news, Jeremy LaSalle will make the jump from the Sportsman class, with tutelage from Dale Planck, who will also run a limited schedule in a car owned by Mike and Lori LaSalle. Former Sportsman track champion Chris Herbison will return to the Stewart Racing #63 for a homecoming of sorts, as the team moves to the track's marquee division.

 

The 3rd generation of the Herbison family will make their stock car debut, as 16 year-old Jarrett Herbison moves from go karts to the Rookie Sportsman field, in the #38J. A familiar face will be in the pack with him, as Jacob Clancy also makes the transition to the open wheeled racers. Paul Kirkland says it promises to be an exciting campaign at The BOS.

 

"We're expecting some excellent car counts with strong numbers in each of our weekly divisions," said Kirkland. "In the 358 Modifieds alone, drivers like Kyle Dingwall, Gage Morin, Stephane Lafrance, Bobby Herrington and more will be doing their homework in an effort to keep Danny O'Brien from a 13th track championship."

 

In addition to their 5 weekly classes, Brockville Ontario Speedway's action will also feature the Ogilvie's Auto & Fleet Triple Crown Series for DIRTcar 358's and Sportsman Modifieds, Outlaw Vintage and Patriot Sprint Tour on selected Saturday nights. The schedule will wrap-up with the 1000 Islands RV DIRTcar Northeast Fall Nationals, Friday and Saturday, October 14th and 15th. Long hours of hard work and dedication behind the scenes will almost always translate to success on the racetrack once the green flag flies. For the 3 teams who make-up Farm Bro Racing – competing regularly at Peterborough Speedway – before they can even think of rolling through the main gate at the pit area to unload their racecars, they need to drop off the potatoes. 

 

On a typical Saturday night at Canada's Toughest 3rd of a Mile Paved Oval, Christopher Mulders – who shares the #46 Ontario Modifieds Racing Series ride with former Mini Stock champion Ryan Babin – Tyler Betts, runner-up in last year's Late Model standings and 2015 4Fun division titlist Ryan Oosterholt bring bags of spuds to the track concession stands, where they are cut into French fries. Mulders says the potatoes are from CN Produce, a business he operates with his brother Nick. 

 

"Once opening night is taken care of, the rest of the season just falls into place," said Mulders. "We usually drop off a fresh supply when the teams come to the track for the Thursday night practice sessions. For Fan Appreciation Nights, the Super Bowl of stock car racing – the annual Autumn Colours Classic – we stock them all. It's a pretty big order, but we can tackle the task."

 

Peterborough Speedway owner/promoter J.P. Josiasse says that whenever and wherever possible, the track works with area vendors and suppliers for products and services. Hamburger and hot dog buns are brought-in fresh every week from a local bakery. Track vehicles are maintained and lettered by area shops, with special event tickets, programs and schedules printed in the Kawartha region. When faced with a buying decision, one of the first things track officials do is check the track-side advertising board and then look to see if there is a sponsor on any of the teams in the field who could possibly provide the needed item.

 

"We're asking people to support the racetrack, so its only fair that we put some of our money back into the community," said Josiasse. "The sponsorship of our weekly racing divisions drives traffic to local businesses like Dart Heating & Air Conditioning, Paul Davis Systems, Earl Ireland Auto Sales, Battlefield Equipment Rental and new this year, Jiffy Lube. Having the Farm Bro guys supply the potatoes for our fresh-cut fries and also bringing 3 cars with pit crews, families and fans is a real shot in the arm for everyone associated with the speedway."

 

Action at the tight, tricky bullring on Mount Pleasant Road, west of the Liftlock City begins with the 2016 edition of the Country 105 Season Opener – featuring free spectator grandstand admission – Saturday, May 21st.

Oxford, Maine -- Ben Rowe of Turner edged DJ Shaw of Center Conway, New Hampshire by a razor-thin margin of .023-seconds in a wild, and wildly-competitive, Speedway Homes 150 for Pro All Stars Series Super Late Models on Sunday at Oxford Plains Speedway.

 

"I've got to thank (new crew chief) Mickey Green for coming on board," Rowe said in victory lane, greeted by a decidedly mixed reaction from a very vocal crowd after the race.  "I haven't had a top ten finish here in about five years – it was in the paper – and Mickey and his guys got us back on the right track, and my spotter (Steve Tapley) did a great job today."

 

Rowe started 27th, and had methodically worked his way into third position behind Bryan Kruczek of Newmarket, New Hampshire and Dan McKeage of Gorham after McKeage had led almost the entire race to that point.  Rowe found an opening under Kruczek as they headed into turn one on a restart, and contact between the two as Kruczek tried to close the hole saw him bounce into McKeage, who was forced three-wide to the outside, costing him several positions.

 

Kruczek, who had led briefly earlier in the race only to be taken out of the spot by a competitor who was penalized for the move, was unable to complete the race, while McKeage clearly deserved a far better fate than his eventual tenth-place finish.

 

Rowe, a four-time PASS North Super Late Model champion, nearly lost the race in the same fashion that he gained the race lead on a green-white-checkered finish when he went wide to fend off the challenge of Farmingdale's Johnny Clark, who nearly won the race after starting from 33rd on the pre-race grid.  That move opened the door for 2014 series titlist Shaw to charge up on Rowe's inside, nearly stealing the checkered flag.

 

Rowe, Shaw and Clark were next chased across the stripe by Colchester, Vermont's Brent Dragon, who raced up front throughout the 150-lap test to earn a fourth-place finish in the Shaw 49, with 24th-place starter, and reigning series champion Mike Rowe of Turner rounding out the top five in his new ride, a team car to his son's winning Richard Moody Racing, Hancock Lumber-sponsored car.

 

Mike Hopkins of Hermon, Adam Polvinen of Auburn, Glen Luce of Turner, Dave Farrington, Jr. of Jay and McKeage rounded out the top ten.  Shaw, McKeage, Dragon and Matt Matheson of Oromocto, New Brunswick won Super Late Model heat races.  Jeremy Davis of Tamworth, New Hampshire and Joey Doiron of Berwick took the last-chance consolation race qualifiers.

 

 

Bobby Therrien of Hinesburg, Vermont cruised to a comfortable victory in the Husqvarna 100 presented by Dave's Small Engines for the American-Canadian Tour Late Models.  Therrien started sixth, and had to get by reigning ACT Late Model Tour champion Wayne Helliwell, Jr. of Dover, New Hampshire to claim a race lead that he would not relinquish.

 

Steuben's JR "Rockin" Robinson posted a career-high runner-up finish, holding off multi-time HP Hood Oxford 250 champion Eddie MacDonald of Rowley, Massachusetts through the closing laps and a couple of late-race restarts.  MacDonald crossed the line in third position.  Helliwell ended up with a fourth-place finish.  Scott Dragon of Milton, Vermont filled out the top five.

 

Ryan Robbins of Dixfield, the 2015 OPS Mods champion, turned back the challenges of the touring series invaders in the 40-lap PASS Modified main event.  Robbins grabbed the lead from popular Westbrook racer Matty Sanborn, who was soon sidelined by mechanical woes. 

 

Multi-time PASS Mods champion Andy Shaw of Center Conway, New Hampshire challenged Robbins in the late stages of the race, finishing second.  Robbins and Shaw were joined on the podium by North Waterboro veteran Billy Dixon, who prevailed in a three-car battle for the spot, ahead of Evan Armington of Lovell and New Gloucester's Ben Tinker.  Sanborn and Robbins won the heat races.

 

Trevor Sanborn of East Parsonsfield was triumphant in the 25-lap Legends Cars main event.  The winner's semi-teammate, 13-year-old Austin Teras of Windham, led much of the race before settling for runner-up honors.  Jarrett Butcher of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia nailed down a third-place finish in front of Buckfield's Chris Burgess and Peter Craig of Poland.  Teras and Burgess won heat races.

 

Drivers from seven different states and five Canadian Provinces participated in the giant, opening day racing program.

En route vers la saison 2016 NASCAR de l'Autodrome St-Eustache

Avec le soleil et la chaleur qui refont surface, c'est enfin le temps de se tourner vers le début de la saison 2016 à l'Autodrome St-Eustache. Tout comme les amateurs, les pilotes des divisions NASCAR Sportsman Lucas Oil, NASCAR Sport Compacte MRQ, NASCAR Légende Modifiée et Challenge 4 Le Meilleur Ramoneur, sont impatients de retrouver le circuit qu'ils affectionnent.

Réunion pré-saison

Tout d'abord, les pilotes intéressés à participer aux événements stockcar de l'ASE, sont cordialement invités à prendre part à la réunion pré-saison le vendredi 22 avril prochain, à 19h00. La réunion qui aura comme sujet principal les procédures de courses, se déroulera au 2e étage du complexe de l'ASE.

NASCAR Sportsman Lucas Oil

Les équipes désirant alimenter leurs bolides avec l'essence de course Sunoco, pourront désormais le faire à compter de cette saison. L'essence Sunoco choisie devra toutefois respecter la norme d'octane décrit dans le livre de règlement de la série. Les équipes pourront se la procurer auprès de JASS Performance 450-220-9648.

Enduro 1er mai

Les inscriptions vont bon train pour la première épreuve du circuit ovale en 2016. L'Enduro 200 qui regroupera des voitures 4-6 et 8 cylindres, avec des pilotes prêts à tout pour franchir le fil d'arrivé le premier, aura lieu dimanche le 1er mai prochain. Salon SCP Évolution

SCP Évolution perpétue la tradition présentée par le mondialement célèbre Salon SCP Auto, un évènement annuel qui a démontré le meilleur dans la préparation et l'innovation de voitures personnalisées. Au cours de ses 9 années, SCP a été considéré comme le premier lieu de ce genre, attirant des véhicules exposés de partout en Amérique du Nord. En 2016, SCP revient à Montréal avec une nouvelle vision et un but revitalisé. Matt Craig Battles Back From 2 Laps Down For PASS South Win At Caraway

SOPHIA, NC (April 16) – Matt Craig battled back from two laps down to pass race leader Jared Fryar on the final restart and led the rest of the way to score his first career Pro All Stars Series (PASS) South Super Late Model win in the Dogwood 125 Saturday night at Caraway Speedway.  Craig's win allowed him to close in to within two points of PASS South points leader Kodie Conner, who finished third.

"I was running third about 20 laps into the race and I felt the pedal go to the floor, and I thought, dang there goes another one," said Craig, driver of the family-owned C&C Boilers Sales & Services #54.  "I just drove my tail off after that.  They told me to save my stuff and wait for a caution, I didn't listen to them.  I think I'm pretty good at restarts and we got one there at the end and were able to hold on for the win."

            In qualifying, 2014 North-South Shootout winner, Ryan Moore toured the .455 mile speedway at a fast lap of 99.550 miles per hour to claim the quick qualifying time. However, Moore would slot into the ninth starting position after the top 10 qualifiers redraw, while defending race winner Jared Fryar and Brandon Lynn would move to the front row.

            At the drop of the green flag, Lynn would take the lead from the outside pole over Fryar and Craig.  Moore wasted little time moving to the front taking fifth position from Trey Jarrell on lap 10.  The first caution of the night waved on lap 35 when Craig lost power down the backstretch and slowed to a stop due to a broken throttle linkage.  Craig would lose two laps while his crew made repairs to his Chevrolet.

            On the restart, Jody Measamer was able to get by Lynn to take the lead on lap 36.  The next caution would not wave again until lap 76 when Kyle McCallum went for a spin exiting turn two.  On the next restart, Lynn would overtake Measamer to regain the lead, while Fryar would move by to take second.  Just one lap later, Fryar moved by Lynn to take his turn back up front. 

            With 27 laps to go, Michael Pilla spun exiting turn four to bring out a caution that would allow Craig to get back on the lead lap.  Racing over the final circuits would be intense as Moore began to challenge Lynn for second.  The two cars would make contact exiting turn four with 14 laps to go, and then again entering turn one, sending Moore's car around and into the outside wall.

            The biggest benefactor of this hard racing would be Craig, who would start alongside Fryar for the restart.  Craig got the advantage over Fryar on the final restart and would lead the rest of the way for his first career PASS South Super Late Model victory.  Fryar finished right behind him in second, with Kodie Conner third, Measamer in fourth, and Lynn in fifth.  Rounding out the top ten were Jarrell, Vinnie Miller, McCallum, Kyle Desouza, and Jimmy Doyle.

The PASS South Super Late Models will be in action once again for 125 laps on Saturday, May 27th at Concord Speedway, along with a 125 lapper for the Southern Modified Racing Series and action for the Mid-Atlantic Limited Late Models and Street Stocks.  Be sure to "Like" the Pro All Stars Series on Facebook or follow us on Twitter at @PASSSLM14.

RAPHAËL LESSARD SIGNE UNE DEUXIÈME PLACE EN CAROLINE DU NORD! 

Le jeune prodigue de la course automobile Raphaël Lessard a offert tout un spectacle au 

Orange County Speedway en CARS Super Late Model Tour.

 

ROUGEMONT, Caroline du Nord, 16 avril 2016 – Raphaël Lessard, le jeune pilote de Saint-Joseph-de-Beauce vient tout juste de signer la deuxième place lors du Orange Blossom 300 presented by the Grilling Store qui compte pour sa deuxième épreuve de la saison en CARS Super Late Model Tour. 

 

Terminant deuxième lors d'une course spectaculaire, le pilote de la voiture #99 FRL Express/Toyota/JBLAudio de l'équipe David Gilliland Racing en a impressionné plus d'un dans l'assistance en remontant de la 7e position à la deuxième. C'est au terme de plusieurs batailles en piste avec le peloton des meneurs, que Lessard a pu se faufiler en 2e place et même flirter avec la 1re . Le pilote Christopher Bell a tenu son bout tant bien que mal contre Lessard qui lui faisait pression à chaque virage. 

 

Raphaël Lessard, 14 ans, n'aura pas eu froid aux yeux lors de cette course haute en drapeaux jaunes. Dès les premiers tours, il s'est assuré de se placer dans le peloton des meneurs. Reculant de la 7e place à la 9e, il est rapidement remonté en 6eposition, d'où il a effectué de très beaux dépassements. 

 

Les drapeaux jaunes de la mi-course n'ont pas été les alliés de Lessard, qui se battait dans le peloton de tête. C'est lors des 50 derniers tours que Raphaël a dévoilé son réel talent de pilote d'ovale. Ne se laissant pas intimider par Christopher Bell et Dalton Sargeant, deux pilotes de renommée nationale aux États-Unis, étant dans le programme de développement de pilote de Toyota, Lessard a piloté de façon intelligente et constante, ayant dans la mire la première place dans les 5 derniers tours.

 

« Lors des relances après les drapeaux jaunes, je partais des fois à l'intérieur, des fois à l'extérieur, et parfois je perdais des positions, car à cette piste-là, la ligne de course à l'intérieur est moins vite que celle à l'extérieur. Lorsque je perdais des positions, c'était dur de remonter. La voiture s'est bien comportée tout au long de la course, mon chef d'équipe me guidait pour conserver les pneus et la voiture. L'équipe a fait du très bon boulot ce week-end » explique Lessard. 

 

Même le commentateur de l'événement le disait ; c'est l'une des meilleures fins de course jamais vue en CARS Super Late Model Tour. Bell, Lessard et Sargeant ont offert tout un spectacle, avec des dépassements à couper le souffle et des accrochages mineurs, les spectateurs ont assisté à une fin de course digne d'une de Coupe NASCAR Sprint. « Les pilotes en piste sont tous très bons et ont déjà beaucoup d'expérience. À la fin je sais que j'étais plus vite que Christopher Bell, donc j'essayais de le dépasser, mais ça ne marchait pas, car il me fermait la porte. Au final, je ne voulais pas pousser plus fort pour ne pas risquer de me réaccrocher avec lui. Mon objectif à la prochaine course sera très certainement un autre Top 5! » dit Raphaël. 

 

La prochaine course de Raphaël dans la série CARS Tour aura lieu le samedi 7 mai prochain au Hickory Motor Speedway de Newton, Caroline du Nord.
