Northwest Qualifiers For Oxford And Hickory, Entry Forms, And Lap Boards Keep PASS Busy

CHARLOTTE, NC (February 15) – Although the 2017 Pro All Stars Series (PASS) season is barely under way, North America's most prominent Super Late Model tour is already looking towards two of the biggest events of the year, the 44th Annual Oxford 250 in August and the recently announced Mason-Dixon MegaMeltdown 300 in November.  Today officials from PASS, the Northwest Super Late Model Series, and Wenatchee Valley's Super Oval (WVSO) announced that two events at the Washington State speedway will serve as qualifiers for each of the premier events in PASS.

"I met Tom [Mayberry] at North Wilkesboro about five years ago and since then we have become good friends and shared a lot of late night talks while on the road traveling," said Garrett Evans, a multi-time Super Late Model champion in the Northwest.  "It was a great honor to have the PASS Northwest Triple Crown at WVSO, my hometown track, a few years ago.  The timing wasn't right for a series in our area then, but I feel things are getting closer for PASS to possibly return next year."

As part of the agreement, the top two finishers in the Leonard Evans Memorial 150 at WVSO on April 29 will be on "The Road To The Oxford 250" and will have guaranteed starting spots in the prestigious race.  Additionally, the top two finishers of the Neal Newberry 125 at WVSO on September 23 will have guaranteed starting spots in the Mason-Dixon MegaMeltdown 300 at Hickory Motor Speedway in November, which will pay $15,000 to win, plus additional lap leader money.

"The Oxford 250 is by far the biggest race I've ever been a part of and I've been in the All-American 400 and the Snowball Derby, so I think that says a lot about Oxford," says Evans.  "I've talked to Jason Jefferson about these qualifiers and he wants to race at WVSO in September to see if he can qualify for the Hickory race.  I'm sure when more people hear about this opportunity they will plan to try and take advantage of it."

For over 40 years, the Oxford 250 at Oxford Plains Speedway in Maine has been one of the "crown jewels" in the world of short track racing, and this year's version looks to be no different.  Despite being over six months away, a number of drivers have already filed entries for the $25,000 to win race, which also pays an additional $25,000 in lap leader money.  Among those who have already entered include former race winners Mike and Ben Rowe, Travis Benjamin, Wayne Helliwell, Jr., and six-time PASS North Super Late Model champion, Johnny Clark.  Entry forms are now posted at ProAllStarsSeries.com and drivers are eligible for early entry until May 1.

Last month, the racing world was taken by storm when the Mason-Dixon MegaMeltdown 300 was announced for November 18 at Hickory Motor Speedway in North Carolina.  Since then, drivers from all over North America have penciled the event in on their 2017 racing calendars.  The 300 lapper will be the richest event ever held at Hickory, with $15,000 going to the winner, and $1000 to start.  But, the winner could take home over $20,000 thanks to the lap leader bonus.  For just $25 per lap, sponsors can join in on the South's biggest Super Late Model race of the year.  For those interested, the lap board is posted at ProAllStarsSeries.com along with an order form to purchase laps.

The next event for PASS will be the Dogwood 300 at Southern National Motorsports Park in Kenly, NC on March 4, featuring the PASS South Super Late Models and NASCAR Late Model Stocks.  Entry forms for the Dogwood 300, along with the 44th Annual Oxford 250 and upcoming events at Orange County Speedway, Thompson Speedway, Hickory Motor Speedway, and Beech Ridge Motor Speedway, can be found at ProAllStarsSeries.com.  The 2017 license forms for the PASS Super Late Models are also available at ProAllStarsSeries.com.  Drivers purchasing licenses for the 2017 season will receive bonus points for each race they are pre-registered for and will also save money towards any events that they enter early.

BARBERVILLE, FL – February 15, 2017 – Jacob Hawkins of Fairmont, WV led all 20 laps of the DIRTcar UMP Modified feature to earn his first career Gator trophy and win at Volusia Speedway Park on night one of the DIRTcar Nationals.

Hawkins led the opening lap after starting on the outside of the front row and held off Clarklake, MI-native Brian Ruhlman over the final 10 laps to earn his spot in Victory Lane. Hawkins attributed his success to car owner Junior Nolan who has accompanied him there to Florida Florida in search of a Gator over the last 12 years.

"It hasn't been from lack of effort," said Hawkins. "Junior's given me good equipment every time. It takes a lot of luck down here. There's so many good cars, you get to run with guys like Ken Schrader, Kenny Wallace and the top talent in the Modifieds. It's a great feeling [to win],"

Hawkins said. Hawkins overcame a lap 12 restart but had to deal with Ruhlman until the final corner. Ruhlman had the advantage in turn two, but Hawkins had an answer for the driver of the No.49 off turn four.

"I had something for him down in [turn] one and two, but I couldn't figure out what to do with them down [in three and four]. I was hoping I could make him make a mistake, but I think he knows I'll always leave him a lane,"Ruhlman said following his runner-up finish.

Arnold, MO driver Kenny Wallace raced his way to a podium finish after starting ninth and was content to finish third behind Hawkins and Ruhlman, he said.

"It was a great job by my team. This is a brand new car. We just unloaded it today," Wallace said. "We learned some adjustments to make tonight, but when you have Jacob Hawkins and Brian Ruhlman, these are two of the best the United States has to offer. They're fast."

Earlier in the night, Ruhlman set fast time in qualifying time trials with a lap of 18.747 seconds around the half-mile Volusia oval. He was also a heat race winner along with Hawkins, Will Krup, Jeff Leka, Ray Bollinger and Scott Kincaid.

Reigning DIRTcar UMP Modified DIRTcar Nationals champion Nick Hoffman raced his way into the 20-lap feature from the first Last Chance Showdown. Contact in Hoffman's heat race forced him to battle his way in to the show through the back door, but did so in convincing fashion as he advanced from 13th to win. Billy Workman Jr. of Canbury, OH and Kyle Strickler of Mooresville, NC both won Last Chance Showdowns from the pole starting position.

The UMP Modifieds return to action on Wednesday alongside the Arctic Cat All-Star Circuit of Champions for night two of the DIRTcar Nationals.

Faces New and Old Begin March to Season Title In The Jet Tools 150


DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Feb. 14, 2017) — A host of new drivers, and a crop of talented racers returning to the series, begin the march toward the 2017 NASCAR K&N Pro Series East championship when a brand new season takes the green flag in the Jet Tools 150 at New Smyrna Speedway in New Smyrna Beach, Florida, on Sunday, February 19. For the fourth consecutive season, K&N Pro Series teams begin their season during the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing at New Smyrna.

 

Of the 28 drivers entered in the Jet Tools 150, the first of 14 races for the series this season, a full third of those drivers have participated in the K&N Pro Series previously. All three of last year's top three finishers, including race winner Todd Gilliland are entered this week. Collin Cabre and Jay Beasley are back in the Rev Racing fold for 2017, while Harrison Burton, Hunter Baize and Tyler Dippel all had strong 2016 season in the series and are looking to back that up with good opening runs at New Smyrna.

While getting the season off on the right foot with a trip to Victory Lane is the goal for most teams this week, winning the season opener has not proven necessary for championship hopes. No driver to win the Jet Tools 15 in any of the first three years went on to win the title — in fact, Ben Rhodes fourth-place finish in the inaugural event in 2014 marks the highest Jet Tools 150 finish by a championship winner. William Byron placed seventh at New Smyrna in 2015, while Justin Haley finished fifth last season.

 

And while none of the previous New Smyrna winners ended up winning that year's K&N Pro Series East championship, all have gone on to great things in their own careers. Daniel Suarez, who won the inaugural event in 2014, won the NASCAR XFINITY Series championship last year and is replacing Carl Edwards in the No. 19 Joe Gibbs Racing entry in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series. 2015 New Smyrna winner Austin Hill is entering his second full season in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.

FAST FACTS:

The Race: The Jet Tools 150 will be the first of 14 races on the 2017 NASCAR K&N Pro Series East schedule.

 

The Procedure: The maximum starting field is 28 cars, including provisionals. The first 24 cars will secure starting positions based on the group qualifying process. The remaining four spots will be awarded through the provisional process. The race will be 150 laps (72 miles) with a five minute break occurring at or near the conclusion of lap 75.

The Track: New Smyrna Speedway opened in 1964 and has a grandstand capacity of 8,000. The .480-mile banked oval has 600-foot straightaways and 720-foot turns with 23 degrees of banking. The track was repaved in January 2007. Additionally, it's a part of the weekly NASCAR Whelen All-American Series and plays host to its annual February showcase, the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing.

 

Race Winners: There have been three different winners in the three previous K&N East races at New Smyrna. Daniel Suarez, Austin Hill and Todd Gilliland are the only race winners at New Smyrna in series history.

 

Pole Winners: In the three previous events, there have been thee different pole winners. Cameron Hayley won the pole for the inaugural race at the track in 2014, while Austin Hill and Todd Gilliland each won races from the pole. Gilliland set the track qualifying record last season of 18.318 seconds (94.333 mph).

 

Jet Tools 150 Notes:

Double Duty: Defending race winner and reigning NASCAR K&N Pro Series West champion Todd Gilliland returns to New Smyrna this weekend with an eye on a busy 2017 season. The 16-year-old Gilliland, of Sherrills Ford, North Carolina, plans on running the full schedule in both the K&N East and K&N West this season for car owner Bill McAnally. Gilliland won six of 14 starts in the West series last season, and won his East debut at New Smyrna. Gilliland will have company for the East series run, too, as his father, former Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series driver David Gilliland, will field cars for Chase Purdy. The Mississippi native Purdy, 16, spent part of last season in the Late Model division at Greenville-Pickens Speedway.

 

Return Engagement: Including Gilliland, all three drivers who were part of an exciting, down to the wire finish at New Smyrna last season are entered in this year's edition of the Jet Tools 150. Joining Gilliland are Spencer Davis and Ronnie Bassett Jr, who finished second and third, respectively, in this race last year. The trio of drivers combined to lead all but nine laps in 2016 at New Smyrna. In fact, of the drivers who finished in the top 10 in this event a year ago, only Gilliland, Davis and Bassett are entered in this year's race. Davis, who won the Pro Late Model championship at New Smyrna's World Series in 2014, is driving a part-time entry for former series regular Ben Kennedy. His teammate for New Smyrna will be Anthony Sergi as part of Kennedy's two-car operation for New Smyrna.

 

Multicultural Flair: Diversity is well-represented in the K&N Pro Series field at New Smyrna. Collin Cabre returns to the seat of the No. 2 for Max Siegel as part of the Drive 4 Diversity program, while his brother, Chase, is alongside as a teammate in the No. 4 for the first time. Jay Beasley is in the No. 42 as part of the D4D program, too, as is Reuben Garcia Jr. of Mexico City. Two cars are entered for owner Troy Williams in the event, with Mexican driver Enrique Baca and Floridian Luis Rodriguez Jr. entered.  Amber Balcaen of Winnipeg, Manitoba will be behind the wheel of the No. 39 for McClure/Martin Racing, and Jesse Iwuji will make his series debut in the No. 36.

 

Home Cookin': Two drivers with a track record of having plenty of success at New Smyrna will make their K&N Pro Series debuts in the Jet Tools 150. Travis Cope will make a start this week in the No. 31 for longtime car owner Ted Marsh, and while Marsh's roots are in racing in New England, Cope has made his mark at New Smyrna. Cope, of Weeki Wachee, Florida, has won three of the biggest non-World Series Super Late Model events held annually at New Smyrna. In 2013, Cope won the Governor's Cup at the track, following that effort by winning both the Orange Blossom 100 and the Red Eye 100 there the following season. But Cope isn't the only Super Late Model driver from the Whelen All-American Series ranks expecting to break through this weekend. Zane Smith of Huntington Beach, California, won the 2015 Super Late Model crown at the 2016 World Series at New Smyrna.

 

New Rules: Two new race and qualifying procedures will make their K&N Pro Series debuts at New Smyrna. Qualifying times will be recorded through the group qualifying process, with NASCAR determining the number of groups that will run in five-minute segments. Drivers may run as many laps as they wish during their five-minute session, with their fastest posted lap counting for their qualifying time. The green-white-checkered finish is gone this season, too, replaced by the overtime line currently used in NASCAR's national series. Once the field reaches the designated overtime line on the track, the race will be deemed official in case of a late caution flag.

For the fourth straight season, New Smyrna Speedway hosts the NASCAR K&N Pro Series opener as part of the 51st annual World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing. Modifieds, Super Late Models, Pro Late Models and more are part of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series track's World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing.

Montréal, QC – 2017-01-17 – L'American-Canadian Tour (ACT) est heureuse d'annoncer le calendrier 2017 de la Série ACT, qui comptera six (6) manches en sol québécois, sous la direction d'une nouvelle équipe de gestion.

 

Marc Patrick Roy est nommé au poste de directeur général de la Série ACT au Québec.  « M.P. Des officiels de l'ACT de longue date sont de retour et quelques nouveaux s'ajoutent

 

L'expérience sera au rendez-vous avec les officiels de la Série ACT.  Martin Boillard, en sera à sa 11e année d'association avec l'ACT et est considéré comme un des signaleurs les plus dynamiques dans le stock-car.  Parmi les autres officiels qui sont de retour, Alain Maltais, qui en est aussi à sa 11e année avec l'ACT, sera au volant de la voiture de tête, tandis que Thomas Maltais qui sera officiel de la ligne des puits.  Se joignent à eux, comme officiels sur la ligne des puits, Lucie Jean, qui est impliquée dans le sport depuis plus de 25 années avec différentes équipes et Pierre Girard, un pilier au sein de différentes équipes de courses, depuis 1985, et qui a remporté le titre de chef d'équipe de l'année en 1996.

 

 « Je tiens à souligner le travail et remercier les pilotes qui se sont mobilisés pour intervenir en faveur du maintien de la Série.  Sans le travail, entre autres, de Donald Theetge, Patrick Laperle, Dany Trépanier, Jonathan Bouvrette la relance aurait été beaucoup plus difficile » conclu Marc Patrick Roy.

AMÉRICAN-CANADIAN TOUR ANNOUNCES 2017 QUEBEC SCHEDULE

 

 

Montréal, QC – 2017-02-13 – The American Canadian Tour is pleased to announce the 2017 Serie ACT schedule, which will feature six (6) events in the Province of Quebec, under the direction of a new management team.

 

Marc Patrick Roy will serve as the Managing Director for the Serie ACT in Quebec. "M.P. Roy is a familiar presence at short tracks in Quebec and the northeastern U.S., and brings a wealth of knowledge and renewed enthusiasm to his new position", said ACT President Tom Curley.  "We are delighted to have him join our team.  He brings with him a strong team of officials who have been involved in ACT racing for many years, in a variety of capacities.  We look forward to the 2017 Serie ACT events", concluded Curley.

 

"I am excited to put my team of officials together", declared Roy.  "I had the opportunity to work with each of them in the past.  These are very honest, professional individuals, with a tremendous knowledge of stock car racing and know what is expected to run a smooth show", he finished. 

 

The 2017 schedule kicks off on Saturday, June 10 at the Autodrome Montmagny and will crown the 2017 Champion at the final event onSeptember 2 at that venue.  Each event will be 100 laps.

 

"I am very excited with the fact that ACT will remain in Quebec in 2017.  Yes, the announcement comes a little later than originally anticipated, but it is a very good schedule and will meet everyone's expectations.  I am also very pleased to know that we can count on a guy like M.P. Roy to lead our Canadian series.  I have total confidence in his abilities to do so", said Donald Theetge.

 

Experience will be evident with the Serie ACT Officials.  Martin Boilard has been with ACT for 11 years, and is one of the most dynamic flagmen in short track racing.  Other returning officials include Alain Maltais, also an ACT veteran of 11 seasons, behind the wheel of the pace car, and Thomas Maltais who will serve as a pit steward.  Joining them will be Lucie Jean, who has been involved in stock car racing for over 25 years on various race teams, and Pierre Girard whose expertise helped guide many Quebec competitors, and who was recognized in 1996 with the Crew Chief of the Year Award.

 

"I want to thank the drivers who mobilized themselves in favor of the continuation of the Serie.  Without their work, especially that of Donald Theetge, Patrick Laperle, Dany Trepanier and Jonathan Bouvrette, this reorganization would have been much more difficult and complex," concluded Roy.

 

The 2017 Serie ACT Championship will kick off at Autodrome Montmagny on June 10th.

ROUND #2 OF SPEEDWAY 51 VINTAGE SNOWMOBILE RACING SERIES

 GOES GREEN, SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 18TH

 

            After a hugely successful opening event of the 2017 Speedway 51 Vintage Snowmobile Racing Series on January 28th, Speedway 51 are hard at work preparing the grounds for Round #2, scheduled for Saturday, February 18th. The opening race saw over 130 sleds compete in the eighteen different divisions. More are expected for the next race.

 

            Pre-entry forms are available on the Speedway 51 website. Please fill them out for each class your racing team will compete in, as this will help move the registration line along very smoothly. Pit gate opens at 7:30am, while racing gets underway at 10am. 50th Anniversary Season Sees Different Looks Pit-Side at Peterborough Speedway

The 2017 campaign at Canada's Toughest 3rd of a Mile Paved Oval has all the makings of being a season of change. Not only will the popular facility celebrate its 50th Anniversary Season of action, when the green flag flies to kick things off, fans at Peterborough Speedway will see some exciting changes when their favourite drivers take to the track.

 

Shortly after last year's Autumn Colours Classic, several teams began working on plans that would see them acquire new equipment to allow them to move into a different racing division, or take their existing program in a new direction.

 

Just a few days after concluding the 2016 season, Brandon Feeney closed a deal to purchase one of the best-known cars to ever race at Peterborough Speedway, when he bought 'The Bus' from Crowe Brothers Racing. The move marked the end of the Orono, Ontario native's time in the Battlefield Equipment 4Fun division, where he'd raced since 2014 and earned a best point finish of 7th in 2016. Feeney will take the first green flag of the new season in the reworked machine, as he joins the Paul Davis Systems Thunder Car ranks.

 

His resume includes time in an ACT Late Model while running weekly at Kawartha, as well as travelling with the OSCAAR Modified and Lucas Oil Sportsman Cup Series tours. After a brief layoff, Tim Burke returned to the short track wars for 2015 in the Renegade Truck division at Peterborough Speedway. The Bancroft, Ontario resident had a strong season and finished 2nd in points, but he relinquished the driving duties to good friend Stephen Bierworth after just one year. The lure of competition will bring the veteran runner back to the sport in 2017, as the #99 machine is set to return to action as part of the 50th Anniversary Season at the tight, tricky bullring on Mount Pleasant Road, west of the Liftlock City.

 

Its been about 6 years since Jeffrey Remington turned a lap at Peterborough Speedway, but the 34 year-old will be back – if only for a limited schedule – in 2017. This season, he'll switch from the Renegade Truck field and return to the Paul Davis Systems Thunder Car ranks. The former Adam Scott Collegiate and Vocational Institute student says he's looking forward to putting his equipment through its paces again.

 

On the other side of the coin, after recording a pair of feature wins during the month of June, a grinding crash late in the 2016 season may keep Brandon Hannah out of this year's action. The pilot of the #47 machine in the Jiffy Lube Mini Stock field had his ride severely damaged, with only the engine, transmission and a set of tires salvageable after the wreck. The 26 year-old says he has some irons in the fire, but knows it could be an uphill climb to get back on the track.

 

Staff and officials at Peterborough Speedway are working hard to put together an exciting 50th Anniversary Season. From the first green flag of opening night, to the final victory lane celebration of the 25th Annual Autumn Colours Classic, 2017 will offer an action-packed calendar.

 

The official schedule won't be released until the Motorama Custom Car and Motorsports Expo – March 10th to 12th – at the International Centre in Toronto, but the promotional team has confirmed that the popular Toonie Spectator Grandstand Admission/Fan Appreciation Nights – presented by Pepsi – will return Saturday, June 3rd, July 8th and August 19th.
