Junior Champ Kart Racing Revs Up for Second Season at Thunder Road

Barre, Vt. – Thunder Road officials announced today that the Junior Champ Kart summer youth racing series will return for a second season at the speedway. The series for racers ages 6 to 14 debuted in 2016, marking the return of go-karts to Thunder Road after a long hiatus.

This season, teams will be competing on a new go-kart track constructed as part of the recently announced repaving project. The independent oval track sits just inside the backstretch of the larger stock car speedway.

"Having a series like this is needed for the long-term success of a race track," Thunder Road co-owner and karting director Cris Michaud said. "It's important for young racers and their families to learn and get experience in an environment that's fun, inclusive, and affordable. We were really happy with our first season in terms of both turnout and atmosphere, and with the new track slated to debut, we think this year will be even better."

Thunder Road plans to run Rookie and Pro divisions throughout the season. The rules for each division will be the same, with driver designations based on experience level. Points will not be awarded for either division.

The 10-race Junior Champ Kart series begins Tuesday, June 20 and will compete every Tuesday through August 22, with an off-week for the Independence Day holiday. The first six events will have a 6:30 pm post time with the gates opening at 4:30 pm, while the August 8, 15, and 22 events are slated for a 6:00 pm post time with gates open at 4:00 pm.

The final event of the season will be held Saturday, September 9. The gates for the special event will open at 1:00 pm with racing beginning at 3:00 pm. A season-ending barbeque will directly follow. Admission to all events will be through the pit gate only.

Championnat des recrues 2017

Lors de la saison 2016, c'est le #48 Dave Caron qui s'est vu remettre le titre de recrue de l'année Méchoui International au banquet de fin de saison.

Lors de la première course de la saison, nous devrions voir en piste plusieurs des recrues qui participeront à la saison 2017.

Tout d'abord, au volant de la voiture #2, le pilote de Québec, Francis Boisclair fera ses débuts en Sportsman Québec. Avec l'ancienne voiture de Steve McKibbin, le pilote qui a coursé dans le passé en Pro Truck à l'ASE, effectuera un retour en piste après quelques années d'absences.

Ayant participé à la dernière course de la saison, le #3 Christian Groleau sera de nouveau assis dans la voiture de Marc Bouvrette. Ayant coursé dans le passé sur la terre à l'Autodrome Chaudière, le pilote de Saints-Anges est inscrit pour la saison complète. Il sera intéressant de voir sa progression sur les différents tracés visités.

Comme annoncé plus tôt, le #11 Manuel Harvey de la Mauricie fera ses débuts en Sportsman Québec avec l'ancienne voiture d'Éric Cloutier. Le pilote qui connait le tracé de Montmagny sur lequel il a coursé en Sport Compact fait tout en son pouvoir afin d'être prêt pour notre premier programme.

Ayant remporté le titre de vice-champion 2016 en Légendes Modifiées, le #14 Jessy Lambert a été choisi pour être le premier pilote de l'équipe de la relève #14. Un projet mis sur pied par Marc Perreault et Samuel Charland qui permettra aux pilotes de Saint-Eustache de tenter de conquérir le titre de recrue de l'année. Inscrit avec Randy Goulet de Québec qui prendra le volant pour 2 courses, le duo de recrue peuvent compter sur le support d'une équipe expérimentée.

Ensuite, le #72 Louis-Philippe Lauzier devrait faire ses débuts lors des premiers programmes. Lauzier est le champion défendant dans la classe Sport Compact à l'Autodrome Montmagny en plus de remporter le titre de vice-champion à l'Autodrome Chaudière Vallée-Jonction. Supporté par son père, Gaétan Lauzier, premier pilote à remporter une épreuve en Sportsman Qc, il participera à quelques programmes mais aimerait conserver la possibilité de conquérir le titre de recrue pour la saison 2018.

Enfin, nous pourrons assister au retour en piste du #96 Alain Hamel. Ayant roulé en stock car dans la fin des années 1990, le pilote de Pont-Rouge fera un retour en piste

Nous devrions assister à quelques belles luttes pour la saison 2017 parmi nos recrues. Notez que pour cette saison, après vote des pilotes, il a été décidé que les pilotes n'ont plus besoin de participer à 100% des courses pour se mériter le titre de champion.

Nous vous attendons pour la première sortie de nos pilotes, ce samedi 20 mai à l'Autodrome Montmagny pour un week-end combo ou les voitures Sportsman Qc seront la vedette le samedi soir pour le Steve Lesage 150 commandité par JLMD CPA inc. Un rendez-vous à ne pas manquer !

"Joey Pole" Returning to Honor Curley at ACT Spring Green at Devil's Bowl Speedway

Former ACT champion announces plans to compete as salute to mentor

WEST HAVEN, VT – Joey Polewarczyk Jr. will pay tribute to a stock car racing legend on Saturday night, May 20, when he returns to American-Canadian Tour (ACT) Late Model competition in honor of the late Tom Curley. Known by racing fans across the country as "Joey Pole," the former champion will make his first ACT start of the 2017 season at the "Spring Green 117" event at Devil's Bowl Speedway in West Haven, VT.

The Spring Green marks the first ACT race held since Curley – the series' innovative and award-winning founder and president – passed away on May 5 after a years-long fight with COPD.

Polewarczyk, of Hudson, NH, started his ACT career at age 14 after being granted a special age exemption by Curley; at the time he was the youngest driver in ACT history. Now approaching his 28^th birthday, Polewarczyk is one of New England's most popular and accomplished drivers. Polewarczyk owns 19 ACT victories and the 2014 championship, as well as wins with the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) and the Granite State Pro Stock Series. He has also won the Oxford 250, the Vermont Milk Bowl, the ACT Invitational at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, and several other prestigious races, and often credits lessons learned from Curley as a key to his success.

"I tore up a lot of equipment when I was first starting out, but Tom saw something in me and never gave up on me," Polewarczyk said. "I remember the first time that he took me on a ride around the pit area for a private talk on his golf cart. I crashed with somebody in a heat race and I thought I had been wronged, but Tom explained to me how it was my fault for not being patient. He was right, and he taught me how to be a better racer. Just last weekend I had an opportunity to take the lead in a PASS race, but I would have had to rough a couple of guys up. If it wasn't for Tom's advice years ago, I might have tried to make that move and we all probably would've wrecked our cars. He was very smart and he took care of us all as racers. It wasn't just me, he helped everyone like that."

Polewarczyk heads to Devil's Bowl on Saturday night with only one goal in mind: Win the Spring Green and dedicate the victory to Curley. The track's progressively-banked, half-mile layout has been good to Polewarczyk; in six starts at the track he has finished fourth or better all but once, winning in his most recent start there in 2015.

"My only intention is to go out and win that race for Tom. All of us drivers are there because of him, and we're all racing this race for him," Polewarczyk said. "I love Devil's Bowl, too. I was there last year as a crew member and I really missed not being out there as a driver, so we're looking forward to it."

Devil's Bowl Speedway will honor Curley with a pre-race tribute and a moment of silence prior to the Spring Green on Saturday night, May 20. Fans, competitors, and officials of the American-Canadian Tour and beyond are invited to join to pay their respects to the patriarch of Late Model racing in the Northeast.

The event will feature a 117-lap main event for the ACT Late Models, along with season-opening races for Devil's Bowl's Sportsman Modified, Super Stock, and Mini Stock divisions. General admission is $20 for adults, $18 for seniors (62+), $5 for teens (13-17), and free for kids age 12 and under. Kids Bicycle Races will also be held during intermission. Quelle belle journée de pratiques, samedi 13 mai, à l'Autodrome Montmagny : senteurs…sons…sourires, beau soleil et plus de soixante (60) voitures en piste.

En ACT, tandis qu'Olivier Bédard faisait l'apprentissage de sa voiture #18 en compagnie du son maître M. Claude Leclerc, Jean-François Déry a démontré que tout est à point pour la course au championnat : et le pilote et la voiture aux couleurs d'un mélange gris/noir/orange de toute beauté.

En Série Super Truck, la beauté des camions est à voir. Les vétérans ont affiché beaucoup de rapidité et les recrues Martin Bisson et Pascal Turgeon ont laissé de fortes impressions et ils seront à surveiller dès le début de saison.

En Sportsman Québec, que de belles voitures et là également la course au championnat sera très intéressante avec aux alentours d'une vingtaine de voitures par programme. Les Mini Sportsman ont fait connaissance avec la piste de Montmagny et ont démontré rapidité et discipline à la satisfaction de parents et amis.

En Série Vintage, le son était à l'honneur et le tout s'annonce bien pour la course au championnat.

En classe SPORT COMPACT ÉLITE ORICOM, la saison 2017 s'annonce comme une des plus glorieuses sur le Speedway de Montmagny. Douze pilotes ont déjà confirmés leur présence pour la saison. Et avec 2 qualifications de 12 tours et une finale de 60 tours MINIMUM ( 1^er=30—2^ième 30) POUR L'OUVERTURE, plusieurs pilotes s'ajouteront au peloton et ainsi avoir droit au bonus de participation pour ceux présents les 20, 21 mai et 10 juin.

En classe HOBBY, belles voitures propres et sécuritaires et belle complicité en vue.

C'est donc un rendez-vous pour l'ouverture de la saison samedi prochain le 20 mai avec en vedette le 150 tours SPORTSMAN QUÉBEC en 3 étapes de 50 tours, suivi du dimanche 21 mai avec en vedette La Série PASS NORTH dans le cadre du <HABITATIONS DANY LAGACÉ 150>.

OMRS Opens its 2017 Season This Weekend at Sunset Speedway

The long wait is nearly over. Fans of the Ontario Modifieds Racing Series – powered by Torque Builders Inc. – will finally get to see their favourite motorsports brand in action, when the popular open-wheeled tour kicks-off its 2017 schedule – Saturday, May 20^th – at Sunset Speedway. On the cusp of the new season, Rick Warnes says that this is an exciting time for drivers, teams and supporters.

"Everyone is putting the finishing touches on their equipment and making sure that everything is set for the first green flag," said Warnes, who along with Randy Hollingsworth and Bill Pickford make-up the team of OMRS officials. "There are new posts on our social media platform almost daily, as people look for clarification on rules and technical information prior to the opening bell."

Since its inception at the former Mosport International Speedway, the Ontario Modifieds Racing Series has shared a mission statement of providing an affordable, competitive series for racers, by racers. Keeping the overall costs under control allowed the tour to field a line-up of at least a dozen starters at each event throughout the 2016 schedule. Officials are expecting similar numbers during the upcoming season.

While the exact numbers won't be known until teams sign-in on the opening night, Warnes says a strong group of returning favourites – including former champions Rob Warnes and John Baker Jr. – fresh faces and experienced runners who'll be making the transition to open-wheeled racing will give OMRS an excellent roster of exciting runners to entertain fans at every race.

"We have an excellent development program in place and our annual test session at Peterborough Speedway opens the door to bring new talent into our ranks."

Its time for the talking to stop, because the green flag is about to drop.

The biggest year in the history of Peterborough Speedway leaves the staging area with the Country 105 Season Opener – featuring free spectator grandstand admission – Saturday, May 20^th. Fans will see the track's 5 weekly classes – the Battlefield Equipment Rental 4Fun, Jiffy Lube Mini Stock, Renegade Truck, Thunder Car and the Organics & Glass Late Model divisions; plus the opening round for the new Trailers Plus Eastern Ontario Legends Series – to kick-off the 50^th Anniversary campaign.

Long hours of hard work by the promotional team during the off-season has allowed track officials to put together an action-packed schedule of 16 regular season events and the ever-popular Autumn Colours Classic. Canada's Toughest 3^rd of a Mile Paved Oval will be a favourite destination throughout the spring, summer and fall of 2017 and track owner/promoter J.P. Josiasse says it promises to be an exciting schedule from the moment the gates swing open.

"There'll be familiar faces in different places. New looks for fan favourites and even some drivers who'll be taking their first ever laps on the track," Josiasse said. "Everyone wants to earn a track championship, no matter what division they race in. Taking the title during the 50^th Anniversary Season will be an honour that'll happen just once in a lifetime. It will be a valuable piece of history and an unforgettable moment in time."

Toonie Spectator Grandstand Admission/Fan Appreciation Nights – presented by Pepsi – will return June 3^rd, July 8^th and August 18^th. To celebrate the first half a century of action, Peterborough Speedway will host a series of 50 lap main events for the track's regular divisions. The Late Models will be first, on June 3^rd with the Mini Stocks June 10^th. 4Fun teams get their turn July 15^th and the Thunder Car drivers run extra laps July 22^nd. Regular season action wraps-up with the Championship Clash – featuring Top 10 Shootouts for all divisions – Saturday, September 2^nd.

The 50^th Anniversary Celebration – Saturday, May 20^th – at the tight, tricky bullring on Mount Pleasant Road, west of the Liftlock City rolls to the line with pit gates opening at 1:00 and spectator grandstands unlocked at 3:00. Racing starts at 5:00.

NASCAR Adds Fourth Stage to Coca-Cola 600

More Moments, More Excitement Set for a Crown Jewel of NASCAR

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (May 15, 2017) – NASCAR today announced the addition of a fourth stage to the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, an update that will provide fans with yet another opportunity for a memorable moment in a season already filled with them. The four stages in the 400-lap race will be uniformly set at 100 laps apiece.

The Coca-Cola 600 has a storied legacy of history-making moments, from career-first victories for the likes of David Pearson and Jeff Gordon, to record-setting runs like Martin Truex Jr.'s breathtaking performance in last year's edition.

And now, there's a distinct possibility for more.

"The stage racing format is delivering more dramatic moments over an entire race, fueling tremendous racing action this season," said Steve O'Donnell, NASCAR executive vice president and chief racing development officer. "With a fourth stage added to the Coca-Cola 600, the historic event will have another layer of strategy for teams, and even more excitement within the race for fans."

"For 58 years, the Coca-Cola 600 has been a crown jewel on the NASCAR circuit because it presents unique challenges that don't exist in any other race. The distance is greater. The test of endurance is greater. Airborne Gearing Up For Opener

PLATTSBURGH- The 2017 racing season is set to take the green flag this Saturday, May 20 at Airborne Park Speedway. The opener will be Econo Lodge Autograph Night presented by A-Verdi Storage Containers with a special appearance by the TUSA Mod Lites.

2017 will feature five racing divisions with exciting DIRTcar action. The Egglefield Ford 358-Modifieds, Fidelis Care Sportsman, Poirier's True Value Renegades, Busch Beer Mini-Mods and the Strictly Stocks.

It will be the first time in 26 years, drivers will prepare their cars for a dirt surface rather than an asphalt surface. For a number of local drivers, it will be the first-time racing on dirt and they will have their hands full with the learning curve. The chase will be between the non-dirt regulars and the invaders. How long will it take before the likes of Bucko Branham and Nick Heywood catch on?

A practice was held this afternoon for all five of the racing divisions. Among some drivers in attendance for the 358's included Greg Atkins, Patrick Dupree, George Foley, Mark Lamberton, Matt Woodruff, Brandon Atkins, Travis Bruno and Ryan McLean. 602 Sportsman in attendance included Codie Aubin, John Scarborough, Jamy Begor, Chris Cayea, Nick Heywood, Pat Leary, Zack Daniels, Bucko Branham, Cory McCoy and Rico Hernandez.

After speaking with a number of drivers, many were very positive and happy with the progress of the track. Many noted that they anticipate this to be an extremely fast track. The quick 358-Modified and Sportsman times were 17.8 and 18.5 seconds, respectively.

Post Time for Saturday's event will be 7 p.m. Main gates will open at 5:30 with pit gates opening at 4:00.

Mathieu Boisvert #73Jr part premier devant Steve Bernard #54 et Dominic Dufault #63. Dès le premier tour, Dufaultet Simon Perreault #47 se hissent respectivement 2ème et 4ème par l'intérieur au détriment de Bernard. Le One de David Hébert parti 9ème fait le 1M de Mathieu Desjardins au 4ème tour par l'intérieur pour entrer au top 5 derrière le 54. Ce dernier dépasse Perreault pour la 3ème place au tour 7 par l'extérieur. Nous avons dans l'ordre Boisvert JR, Dufault, Bernard, Hébert et Perreault jusqu'au tour 15 où le One fait l'extérieur de Bernard pour la position #3. Au tour 19, le One fait l'extérieur de Dufault pour prendre sa 2ème.David Hébert prend la première place par l'intérieur du 73JR lorsqu'est repris le tour 24. Mathieu Boisvert #73 reprendra la tête pendant 2 tours (tours 40 à 42), mais Hébert ressortira plus fort à la relance suivante du 43ème tour. Alain Boisvert #73 parti 10ème arrive 5ème seulement à la relance du 45ème tour. Boisvert père gagne une position quand le 49 de François Bernier quitte au dernier tour.

Steve Nadeau #94 part premier aux côtés du champion défendant Dany Gagné 2ème au départ de cette finale comptant 28 voitures. Lors de la relance du 6ème tour, Gagné part plus rapide de l'extérieur devant Nadeau. À la relance suivante du 10ème tour, c'est Steve de l'intérieur qui semble vouloir prendre les devants, mais Dany restera le leadeur jusqu'à la complétion de l'épreuve avec Steve à sa poursuite. Si le 3M de Michael Richard part 4ème, il se rend tôt 3ème et le reste jusqu'à la fin malgré la tentative de dépassement d'Alexandre Salvas #8 par l'intérieur à la reprise du tour 10. Salvas parti 6ème fera le 32 de Guy Ouellet par l'extérieur à la reprise du tour 6 pour la 4ème place. Il échangera longuement celle-ci avec le 95B piloté par Alex Boisvert, qui l'harcèlera au large sans succès. Le 33 d'Alex Lajoie parti de la 10ème place, atteindra sa position finale, 5ème, dans le dernier tour, suite à une reprise qui lui permettra de passer par l'intérieur Boisvert.

La recrue Claude Cournoyer #47 a fait deux courses seulement parmi nous l'an passé où il avait terminé 8ème et 6ème. Il débute cette soirée en gagnant sa qualification et part 11ème en finale. Au tour 6, il dépasse coup sur coup de l'intérieur le 83 de Sébastien Beauregard et le 49 d'Alexis Charbonneau pour devenir 4ème. Luc Biron #71 part 2ème et mène les 2 tours initiaux. Pierre-Olivier Breault #20 parti 4ème, seconde d'abord Biron puis le dépasse au 3ème tour pour la pôle. Bruno Lafontaine #19 parti 3ème perd 2 positions sur le départ, puis les regagne en faisant l'extérieur de Jean-Philippe Guay #09 au deuxième tour puis l'intérieur de Charbonneau au tour 4. Au 9ème tour, Lafontaine fait le bas de Biron pour la deuxième derrière Breault. Au tour 11, Claude Cournoyer fait pareil à son ami le 71 pour la 3ème. Nous avons alors Breault, Lafontaine, Cournoyer, Biron et Charbonneau du tour 13 au 18. Lors de la relance à deux tours de la fin Cournoyer se lance 2ème à l'extérieur de Lafontaine. Sous le drapeau Claude passe premier. Marc Dagenais #66 parti 9ème parvient au top 5 à la dernière reprise se hissant 4ème, puis 3ème après une chaude lutte avec Lafontaine à l'extérieur.

La course a pris fin abruptement au 11ème tour avec un accident spectaculaire impliquant entre autres le 97 de Rolland Hébert parti 7ème remonté 2ème et le 22 de Frédéric Lussier, parti 4ème et remonté 3ème. La deuxième portion de cette épreuve sera remise sous peu avec à sa tête Stéphane Lemire #115 qui était premier au moment de l'accident.

Des mentions spéciales en terminant vont à JosiannePlante #97 qui pour sa première course de la saison en Modifié termine 14ème sur le tour des meneurs. Une autre mention pour la recrue Jérémy Roy #90 chez les Sportsman qui termine 17ème aussi avec le même tour au compteur que le reste du peloton. Ça promet !
