Barre, Vt. – The 55th Memorial Day Classic presented by Mekkelsen RV Sales & Rental opens the 2017 season at Barre's Thunder Road this Sunday, May 28. The highly anticipated event, which features the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) Super Late Models along with the Memorial Day Classic for the Thunder Road Late Models, will be a landmark in the speedway's 58-year history.

 

For the first time since 1994, racers will be competing on a freshly paved track surface, which was recently completed by Pike Industries. Coincidentally, 1994 was also the last time Thunder Road opened the season on Memorial Day weekend. The Super Late Models were in action that day as well with the former ACT Pro Stock Tour. Sunday's event is also the first since the track was purchased by former racer Cris Michaud and local businessman Pat Malone.

 

"The new pavement definitely makes a strong statement that Cris and Pat are committed to the future of Thunder Road," 2014 Memorial Day Classic winner Jason Corliss said. "Obviously some questions were raised initially, but as racers we felt good with Cris involved, and we know Pat takes a lot of pride in any project he takes on. There's been some beautiful upgrades so far, and I can't wait to see what else comes along in the future."

 

Sadly, the Memorial Day Classic will also be the first event at Thunder Road since the death of long-time owner Tom Curley on May 5. Curley, who had run the speedway since 1982 along with founder Ken Squier, passed away less than three weeks after completing the track's sale.

 

 "It's definitely emotional," Corliss said. "Ever since I've been alive, it's always been Tom Curley running the show at Thunder Road. Over the last couple years, Tom's health prevented him from being as close to the racing action as he wanted, so we got a taste of race days without him. But to actually be there knowing he's not pulling the strings in any fashion – it makes it more real that Tom's not around anymore. I just hope we can buckle up and put on a good show for the fans in his memory. That's what he would want, and that's we racers do."

 

All of the stars of PASS and Thunder Road will be on hand, from six-time PASS North Champion Johnny Clark to defending "King of the Road" Scott Dragon. Each division features a mix of former champions, former race winners, and young standouts looking to add their name to the record books. The racing extravaganza will have more than 300 laps of feature action.

 

In addition to the 150-lap PASS event, the weekly Thunder Road divisions will begin their championship hunts. The Late Models open with the 100-lap Classic as former event winners Tyler Cahoon of Danville and Trampas Demers of South Burlington join Corliss in looking for another entry on the granite monument. Multi-time Thunder Road winners such as Cody Blake, Kyle Pembroke, Eric Badore, and Shawn Fleury also look to start their seasons on a strong note.

 

The Lenny's Shoe & Apparel Flying Tigers and Allen Lumber Street Stocks are each looking to crown a new champion after seeing their defending title-holder move up in the ranks. Brendan Moodie, Jason Woodard, Mike Martin, and Joe Steffen are just some of the top Tiger runners expected to contend for the big trophy. The Street Stocks will see talented racers such as Bunker Hodgdon, Alan Maynard, Tommy Smith, and Brandon Lanphear gunning for the title.

 

Qualifying for the 55th Memorial Day Classic presented by Mekkelsen RV Sales & Rental goes to post at 1:00pm on Sunday May 28. Class Day ceremonies for all Thunder Road divisions will be held at 12:20pm along with the announcement of the winners from the Downtown Barre Car Show held on April 29. Admission is $25 for adults and free for kids age 12 and under. An open practice session on Saturday, May 27 will give drivers the chance to get dialed in.

Concord PASS South Event Postponed Due To Wet Grounds And Weepers

CHARLOTTE, NC (May 24) – Pro All Stars Series (PASS) officials announced Wednesday afternoon that this Friday night's Old Glory 125 for the PASS South Super Late Models at Concord Speedway has been postponed due to extremely wet grounds and weepers on the track surface.  Despite a forecast for sunny and clear weather on Friday, Concord and the surrounding areas have been under flood warnings and received several inches of rain over the last few days, which have left the grounds fully saturated.  Track officials have long struggled with weepers, especially between turns one and two, which have been further exacerbated by the recent rains.  Both track owner David Laton and general manager Jennifer Campbell hope by announcing the postponement now it will save teams and fans money that might be incurred for travel.  PASS and track officials will evaluate schedules and see what date works best to reschedule the events for Concord Speedway.

 "In the best interest of the PASS teams and, with several different weather outlets predicting more heavy rain for the next two days, Tom Mayberry and I agreed that it was best to go ahead and postpone the events scheduled for this weekend at Concord," said Campbell.  "Hopefully, this will allow the teams to cancel hotel reservations and will also give them the opportunity do something else for Memorial Day weekend.  We look forward to having PASS back in the near future."

The next PASS South Super Late Model event on the schedule will be at Southern National Motorsports Park on Saturday, July 15th.  Entry forms for PASS races at Thunder Road International Speedbowl, Speedway 95 and Lee USA Speedway are currently posted at ProAllStarsSeries.com.

Memorial Day Weekend at Airborne


PLATTSBURGH- Another Saturday night of short track racing is set to take the green flag at 7 p.m. at Airborne Park Speedway.

               The Egglefield Ford 358-Modifieds, Fidelis Care Sportsman, Poirier's True Value Renegades, Busch Beer Mini-Mods and Strictly Stocks will all be in action.

               Ticket prices for this weekend's Garrands Motorsports Night presented by Moore 24 Towing and Repair will be $12 for adults and kids age 12 and under free of charge. Main gates will open at 5:00 p.m. for the event.

               Last weekend marked the first dirt race run at Airborne Park Speedway since 1989. Drivers from New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, Quebec and Ontario participated in the 64th season opener.

Chris Raabe of Alexandria, Ontario collected the first win of the season for the Egglefield Ford 358 Modified division 3o lap feature at Airborne Park Speedway.

               Raabe drove from the seventh spot to third in the heat race and started sixth in the feature event.

               A lap-22 restart pinned Middlebury, Vermont's Todd Stone aside Raabe's number St. Lawrence Radiation 01. Raabe, the leader, had lane selection and chose the top of the track. Stone hung around for one lap on the inside the top proved to be the right decision as Raabe went on to win convincingly. Stone finished second with Cornwall, Ontario's Gage Morin finishing in third. Positions four and five went to Greg Atkins and Jessey Mueller, respectively.

               It was a slow start to the Fidelis Care Sportsman feature with two red flags in the first four laps.

               On the opening lap, Neal Provost hopped the wheel of Jamie LaFountain's 20x machine and Provost rolled over onto the front stretch, bringing out the red flag. A few laps later, Zach Daniels spun into the infield and the front clip of the race car dug into the infield and sent him over as well.

               While all this was happening in the middle of the pack, Moise Page was picking cars off on the extreme outside. Page worked his way around Johnny Scarborough after the two battled side by side on several restarts. Page, of St. Louis de Gonzague, Quebec picked up win number one in the 25 lap event. Scarborough settled for second with positions three through five going to Connor Cleveland, Bucko Branham and Lonnie Rivers.

               The TUSA Mod Lites ran a 20 lap feature with Grimson, Ontario native, Paul Klager dominating the event. Klager used lap traffic to complete the pass on Malone's Deric Ellsworth. Kevin Foster finished second with Ellsworth completing the top three.

               Brent Jarvis was able to rebound from a lap-4 spin and take the victory in the Poirier's True Value Renegade feature. Michael Wright and Keith O'Neil finished second and third.

               Josh LaPorte of Peru was the winner in the Busch Beer Mini Mod division. Roger LaBounty and Tyler Irwin rounded out the top three.

               The Strictly Stock beginner division winner was Michael Daniels. Rolland Guay finished second and Derick Coolidge third.

SÉRIE MINI ET SPORTSMAN QUÉBEC:
La Série Sportsman Québec a offert une prestation digne de mention dans le cadre du Steve Lesage 150. Vingt belles voitures en piste. Les commentaires sont positifs et c'est le signe d'une grosse saison! 
Cette finale de 150 tours était divisée en trois étapes de 50 tours. Le tout s'est déroulé avec rapidité, discipline, de beaux dépassements, quelques accrochages de course normales et d'une embardée spectaculaire de Dave Caron près de la courbe #3. Dominic Jacques remporte le premier segment, Samuel Charland le suivant et Louis-Philippe Labrecque le troisième.
Au combiné Pier-Luc Labbé monte sur la plus haute marche du podium suivi de Dominic Jacques et de Louis-Philippe Labrecque.

En Mini Sportsman Qc la victoire revient à Nicolas Côté.

SPORT COMPACT ÉLITE ORICOM ET HOBBY:
En Sport Compact Élite Oricom, 13 pilotes en piste pour une finale de 75 tours divisée en 2 étapes de 30 et 45 tours. Chaque finale est divisée en segment de 15 tours chaque au grand plaisir des pilotes et des amateurs qui ont apprécié la formule. Les pilotes ont été présentés au public et le commanditaire de la Classe M. Alain Bergeron de ORICOM INTERNET, présent sur place leur a donné la main en leur souhaitant la meilleures des chances pour la saison 2017. 

Tout se déroule à merveille pour Louis Philippe Lauzier de St-Pacôme au volant de sa voiture# 72, commanditée par Guideauto.com. Il remporte ses 2 qualifications et les deux segments de la 1ière finale de 30 tours. Mais au 20ième passage de la 2ième finale, son moteur a des ratés et il termine septième. 
Steve Godbout de Québec qui le suivait de près profite de l'occasion et remporte la victoire au valont de sa Honda #75 commanditée par Carstar Charlesbourg. Il est suivi de Maxime Gagné # 17 de Montmagny, commandité par Les Grues R. Gagné et de Frédéric Blanchette de Lévis, voiture #44 commanditée par SMT Performance, Pièces et Accessoires de La Malbaie.
Très belle performance des voitures présentes et de bon augure pour la première tranche des trois courses <MONSIEUR ORICOM> qui aura lieu samedi le 10 juin (Détails à suivre dans les prochains jours). Cette course compte également pour le championnat.

En classe Hobby, Daniel Lemieux met la main sur le quadrillé, suivi de Christopher Bernier et de Francis Boulanger.

PASS NORTH : DOMINATION DE GLEN LUCE

 

DIMANCHE

PRO LATE PASS NORTH:
Sur 17 voitures présentes à l'Autodrome Montmagny dimanche le 21 mai, domination totale de Glen Luce de Tumer ME au volant de sa voiture #7 dans le cadre du <HABITATION DANY LAGACÉ 150>.
Prenant le départ en deuxième position derrière Ben Rowe, il n'a besoin que de 22 tours pour prendre les commandes et conserver sa position de tête jusqu'au quadrillé final. 
Aucun rebondissement majeur, sinon les quelques luttes pour les positions 2,3,4,5, tout au cours de la course entre Clark, Ramstrom, Farrington, Squeglia, Sommerville et McDonald. Une couse à vive allure en 49 minutes et ponctué d'une seule neutralisation au 18ième passage. Les Rowe et Ramstrom ont tout essayé pour rejoindre Luce. Rien à faire, sa voiture était soudé à la piste.
Il gravit donc la plus haute marche du podium, suivi de Derek Ramstrom et de Ben Rowe. Johnny Clark et Eddie McDonld complètent le <Top Five>.
Déception pour Patrick Laperle, son équipe et ses supporteurs; au 50ième tour, Patrick La occupe la quatrième position au grand plaisir des amateurs. Mais au 70ième passage, un problème d'embrayage l'oblige à l'abandon.

Par contre, chance méritée pour Martin Latulippe et Donald Theetge qui'après avoir connu des problèmes mécaniques et d'ajustement en qualification, ils ont terminé respectivement 14 et 15ième et s'assure ainsi une participation au Oxfort 250 du 27 août prochain. L'autre canadien qualifié est Lonnie Sommerville du Nouveau Brunswick.

PROCAM SUPER TRUCK: 
En Procam Super Truck, la victoire revient à Steve Simoneau, champion défendant, suivi de la recrue Martin Bisson et du vétéran Sylvain Lemieux. Simoneau ne l'a pas eu facile. Jimmy Roy vainqueur de la 1ière finale a pris la tête lors de la relance de la 2ième finale. Son camion a perdu un peu de puissance et de stabilité suite aux assauts des Simoneau, Lecours et Lavigne. Ces deux derniers ont été victimes d'accrochage suite à un jaune. 
Très belle prestation de cette classe sous la présidence de Mme Ginette Carbonneau avec 17 camions en piste. Des voitures de toute beauté qui en ont surpris plusieurs par leur vitesse et leur dextérité. À un moment donné les sept premiers se suivaient par choc à pare choc et ce pendant plusieurs tours. Les vétérans devront se surveiller, car les nouveaux arrivés comme Sylvain Denis et les recrues Martin Bisson et Pascal Turgeon ont vraiment impressionné. Une saison qui promet beaucoup d'éclat et de surprises pour les programmes à venir. Des rumeurs comme quoi un vétéran pilote vedette pourrait joindre les rangs de cette Série!

VINTAGE;
En Vintage la victoire revient au vétéran LangisCaron devant le B-45 de Marc Verner. Quelques bris de moteurs et mécaniques à plusieurs pilotes ont assombri leur performance. Certain qu'ils revendront en force à leur prochaine présence.

SPORT COMPACT ÉLITE ORICOM:
En Sport Compact Élite, la victoire revient à Maxime Gagné de Montmagny, commandité par Bernier Imprimeur, suivi de Frédéric Blanchette de Lévis, commandité par SMT Performance et de Jimmy Gagné, de Saint-Georges, voiture #4, une commandite de HLS Bégin et de Excavation Paul Jacques.
Ces voitures participeront samedi le 10 juin à la première des trois courses pour le titre de <M.ORICOM>. Détails à venir dans les jours à venir.

Bouvrette Disqualified from Spring Green 117 Event

 

            The American Canadian Tour (ACT) announced today disqualification of Jonathan Bouvrette and his #41QC team from the Spring Green 117 held last Saturday night at Devil's Bowl Speedway.    Bouvrette crossed the finish line in first place, but it was determined during post-race technical inspection that unapproved engine components had been utilized on the Bouvrette team's powerplant.

In addition to forfeiting all championship points and prize money from the event, a fine of $1,500 has been levied, and the #41QC team will be on technical probation for the remainder of the 2017 season at all ACT US and Serie ACT events.

            "The ACT crate motor program is a foundational component of our series", said Darla Hartt, ACT's Managing Director. "Our ACT competitors rely on us to maintain strict policies regarding motors, tires and shocks which significantly curb their costs, and provide a level playing field for a wide variety of teams.  The ACT model created by Tom Curley has worked well for us for many seasons, and we will continue to be vigilant in its operation".

Playoff Makeover Headlines 2018 NASCAR Schedules

Daytona 500 Returns to Historic Presidents Day Weekend

 

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (May 23, 2017) – NASCAR today announced sweeping changes to the lineup of tracks that make up the playoffs as part of its 2018 national series schedules.

 

Next season, the final regular season race in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series will be contested at iconic Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and the Round of 16 kicks off at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

 

NASCAR has added a second short track to the playoff slate, as the historic ¾-mile Richmond International Raceway hosts the second playoff race for the first time, and Charlotte Motor Speedway serves as the first cutoff race, with an intriguing twist – and turn. The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series will race on the road course oval at Charlotte, marking the first time the playoffs will see a road-course layout among its 10 races.

 

With Charlotte moving to the cutoff of the Round of 16, Dover International Speedway now hosts the first race of the Round of 12 – another playoff first.

 

Celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Great American Race, the Daytona 500 returns to its traditional Presidents Day weekend on Sunday, February 18.

 

Speedweeks kicks off with an action-packed Sunday, February 11 at Daytona International Speedway, with a Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series season-opening double-header featuring the Clash and Daytona 500 pole qualifying.

 

"Fan feedback was a major driver in developing these schedules, and we worked very closely with the industry to set the stage for an exciting 2018 season," said Steve O'Donnell, NASCAR executive vice president and chief racing development officer. "This season has delivered more dramatic moments to fans, and with the adjustments to the 2018 schedules we're in a great position to build upon that success."

 

Richmond's spring race returns to Saturday night, and the spring triple-header at Dover moves to the first week in May.

 

The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series joins NASCAR Goes West, the annual three-race trek to the West Coast, making March 2-4 a triple-header weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

 

The fall weekend at Las Vegas serves as the final regular season event for the NASCAR XFINITY Series, with a three-race opening round of Richmond, Charlotte and Dover. The fall Bristol race will finalize the playoff field for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, with Round of 8 races at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, Las Vegas and Talladega.

 

All races will air on either the FOX or NBC family of networks, MRN, PRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
