UNE COURSE EMPREINTE DE REBONDISSEMENTS POUR JEAN-FRANÇOIS DUMOULIN

 

Edmonton, (Alberta, Canada), le 30 juillet 2017 – Au volant de la voiture#04 Spectra Premium / Bernier Crépeau / Groupe Bellemare / MIA, Jean-François Dumoulin s'attendait à un tout autre dénouement hier sur le circuit du Edmonton International Raceway (Alberta). Lors d'un arrêt aux puits dans le premier tiers de la course pour un léger incident, l'équipe a, entre autres, modifiés les réglages des suspensions. Le résultat s'est avéré positif puisque Jean-François Dumoulin a pu couvrir les derniers 150 tours de piste à un rythme intéressant.

 

Faisant suite à la séance d'essais, Jean-François Dumoulin souhaitait bénéficier des améliorations apportées sur la voiture #04 Spectra Premium / Bernier Crépeau / Groupe Bellemare / MIA (sous-virage en entrée et le survirage en sortie de virages) pour la qualification, tout en conservant des réglages efficaces pour la course (300 tours) et de longs relais. « Nous avons fait plusieurs changements pour la qualification toutefois cela n'a pas modifié le comportement de la voiture. »

 

Pour la qualification, les équipes montent un jeu de pneus neufs, avec lequel elles doivent prendre le départ. La procédure de qualification comprend un ou deux tours de piste pour augmenter la température des pneus, puis maximum deux tours rapides pour réaliser le meilleur temps. Qualifiée en seizième position, l'équipe #04 Spectra Premium / Bernier Crépeau / Groupe Bellemare / MIA a choisi des réglages plus sûrs pour la course (pression des pneus, la distribution de poids en transversale et la différence de circonférence des pneus, plus grande à l'extérieur qu'à l'intérieur pour faciliter les virages à gauche).

 

« Entre Saskatoon et Edmonton, l'équipe a procédé à une vérification générale du système électrique et d'alimentation en essence. Toutefois, la problématique s'est présentée de nouveau en course. Nous allons relocaliser les lignes d'alimentation et autres modifications pour assurer la performance pour le prochain circuit ovale (Antigonish, Nouvelle-Écosse, 19 août 2017). C'est encourageant, puisque dans la deuxième moitié de l'épreuve, je pouvais tourner les mêmes chronos que les meneurs. Nous serons prêts pour Trois-Rivières», explique Jean-François Dumoulin.

Matt Haufe Returns to Eastern Ontario Legends Series Victory Lane

His season-long win streak may have ended a week ago, but that only made Matt Haufe more determined to start a new run of dominating performances with the Trailers Plus Eastern Ontario Legends Series.

 

The popular tour returned to action – Saturday, July 29th – to close out the month at Canada's Toughest 3rd of a Mile Paved Oval. Jamie Riberdy and Adam Cuthbertson led the field to the green flag and like the other 17 starters, they were after the extra pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Series officials had posted a bonus buck payout to the winner if the 25-lap feature went caution-free and every driver in the starting line-up had their sights set on collecting the cash.

 

Riberdy and his teammate Cole Ledson took turns at the front of the pack, swapping the lead back and forth during the early stages of the event. Matt Haufe – who except for Kevin Foisy's July 22nd win at Sunset Speedway, had been the only feature winner this season – took the runner-up position with about a handful of laps on the scoreboard. The pack closed ranks and was working through the backmarkers with 11 laps complete, before the race's only caution flag waved for a spin in the 4th turn a couple of laps later.

 

On the restart, Haufe ran in Ledson's tire tracks for a few laps and the pair actually touched – without incident – on the front stretch, before the driver of the #88 machine took the lead on lap 17. From there, it was hammer-down and full speed ahead for Haufe, whose checkered flag was his 10th in 11 starts, dating back to the 2016 Autumn Colours Classic. Ledson, Cole McFadden, Riberdy and Adam Cuthbertson followed Haufe across the line. Wes Cuthbertson, Dave Riopelle, Parker Traves, Andre Fiorini, Jeff Drimmie, Mark Griffin, Bill Mason, Rick Eades, Andrew McFadden, Don Arnott, Andrew Massey, Dawson Drimmie, Cory Richardson and Jeff Forsey completed the finishing order.

 

Trailers Plus Eastern Ontario Legends Series notes: Cole Ledson, Matt Haufe, Cole McFadden and Dave Riopelle won qualifying heats earlier in the night…Terry McClelland suffered mechanical issues during practice rounds and in a show of sportsmanship, Dave Riopelle ran the feature race, but the championship points he earned were credited to McClelland…Next on the schedule is the year's 2nd U.S. Legends Asphalt Nationals Qualifier – Saturday, August 5th – at Sunset Speedway.

LP DUMOULIN SIGNE SON CINQUIÈME TOP-5 DE LA SAISON À EDMONTON

  

Edmonton, (Alberta, Canada), le 30 juillet 2017 – L'équipe #47 WeatherTech Canada / Groupe Bellemare a réalisé son cinquième top-5 de la saison hier sur le circuit du Edmonton International Raceway (Alberta). C'est avec acharnement et efficacité que les équipiers ont procédé au remplacement d'une rotule de direction dès les premiers tours de la séance d'essais. Neuvième sur la grille de départ, Louis-Philippe Dumoulin a su adapter son pilotage à un sous-virage en début d'épreuve, corrigé par l'équipe à la mi-course. Tout au long des 300 tours, il a bataillé avec détermination afin de tirer le maximum de sa voiture.

 

Louis-Philippe Dumoulin a stratégiquement remonté le peloton en compétitionnant continuellement jusqu'à la troisième position au 270e tour. « Nous voulions vraiment monter sur le podium ! » s'exclame le pilote de la voiture #47 WeatherTech Canada / Groupe Bellemare. « Ce qui nous a coûté des positions, ce sont les relances dans la trajectoire extérieure. De plus, le derrière de la voiture était complexe à contrôler. Nous sommes tout de même satisfaits du top-5. Nous ne lâchons pas, il reste cinq courses à faire et tout est possible, nous voulons des victoires ! »

LUCAMA, NC (July 29) – Matt Craig survived a 52 minute rain delay and a late restart to score his fourth Pro All Stars Series (PASS) South Super Late Model win of the season Saturday night at Southern National Motorsports Park.  In doing so, Craig, along with fellow podium finishers Dave Farrington, Jr. and Trevor Sanborn, locked up guaranteed starting positions for November's Mason-Dixon MegaMeltdown 300 at Hickory Motor Speedway, which will pay at least $15,000 to the winner.

            "We took off on that one restart after the rain to get a good lead and get to halfway, but we weren't really too worried about it, we knew the radar looked good," said Craig, driving the family-owned C&C Boilers Chevrolet #54.  "What makes it easier for me are the guys that work on the car every week.  I can't thank them and my dad enough for setting it up.  We really want to get to the big races at the end of the year, the Oxford 250 and the MegaMeltdown.  These wins mean a lot, but now we want the big ones."

            In qualifying, Tate Fogleman just beat out Craig for his first career quick qualifying time in PASS South with a lap of 15.321 seconds (93.989 MPH).  After the top 10 qualifiers redraw, Matt Wallace and Jared Fryar would move to the front row, while Fogleman and Craig would slot into the fourth and fifth starting positions respectively.

            At the drop of the green flag, Wallace would move to the point and begin to stretch out to a big advantage over the rest of the field. The caution would not wave until lap 26 when a light mist began to fall over the speedway.  After several laps under caution to keep heat in the track, the race went back to green with Craig taking over the top spot from Wallace.  But, the caution would wave again after contact in turn three between Fryar and Joe Graf, Jr. sent Fryar for a spin.  During the caution, the precipitation would pick up, resulting in a delay to insure that the track was dry.

            After the rain had passed, the field went back to green with Craig leading over Wallace and Dave Farrington, Jr.  Farrington, along with Fogleman and Kodie Conner, were able to move by Wallace with 57 laps to go to try and track down Craig for the lead.

            The caution would wave with seven laps to go when rookie Roy Hayes spun in turn four.  On the restart, Fogleman, who passed Farrington for second just prior to the caution, raced hard to try and challenge Craig, but spun exiting turn two and collected Conner.  Craig would go unchallenged the rest of the way to sweep the season at Southern National over Farrington, Trevor Sanborn, Fryar, and two-time PASS National champion, Jay Fogleman.  Rounding out the top 10 were Graf, Conner, T. Fogleman, Sarah Cornett-Ching, and Wallace.

            In MASS Street Stock action, Gary Ledbetter, Jr. led flag-to-flag to take the win over polesitter Bobby Tumbleston, Ricky Locklair, Jr., Sonny Schoffen, and Jeff Melton.

Second NASCAR Pinty's Series Win On Western Swing Results In Points Lead

WETASKIWIN, Alberta – If Alex Labbe wins the 2017 NASCAR Pinty's Series championship, the trip to western Canada may prove to be the pivotal point in his season.

Labbe started from the pole position after winning the E3 Spark Plugs Pole Award earlier in the day and led three times for 216 laps en route to the win in the Luxxur 300 at Edmonton International Raceway. It was Labbe's second win in three races on the series' traditional western swing, and gave the St. Albert, Quebec, the points lead in Canada's national stock car championship series.

Labbe's No. 32 Can-Am/Kappa/Cyclops Gear/Lou's BBQ Ford paced the field for 192 of the first 193 laps before Donald Theetge got by. Theetge and Lacroix swapped the lead four time before Labbe regained the top spot on Lap 278 just before the seventh and final caution flag of the race was flown on Lap 289. 

Labbe, who had dropped back as far as fifth at one point, was able to get a good restart and hold on for his fourth win of his career and second in three days.

Cayden Lapcevich scored his third podium finish in as many races in third, with Alex Tagliani and L. P. Dumoulin rounding out the top five.

D.J. Kennington was sixth with Mark Dilley, Anthony Simone, Kevin Lacroix and Adam Martin completing the top 10.

Lacroix was running in the top five when he got together with Lapcevich, and was given a stop-and-go penalty on Lap 268 ending his chances for a win.

After the victory, Labbe now leads by 10 points (346-336) over Lacroix with five races remaining on the schedule. Lapcevich, the defending series champion, trails Labbe by 31 and is seven points ahead of both LP Dumoulin and DK Kennington.

The Luxxur 300 will be televised on TSN on Saturday, Aug. 12 at 1 p.m. ET.

The series will return to action on Sunday, Aug. 13 in Trois-Rivieres, Quebec, for the running of the Le 50 Tours Can-Am.

No matter where they race, every driver starts the season with a clean slate…a fresh canvas…an empty notebook. After finishing second in the Battlefield Equipment Rental 4Fun point standings each of the past 2 years, Sean Kennedy kicked-off the 2017 season at Peterborough Speedway with one thing on his mind. A track championship.

 

After winning a number of races and class championships at different levels during his tenure in the karting ranks, his prowess behind the wheel made a seamless transition when it came to stock car racing. With nearly 40 different teams making at least one start in the highly competitive field, the 20 year-old from Courtice, Ontario already has a pair of main event this year. The 4Fun division has about a handful of races left on the regular season schedule and while another main event win is far from guaranteed; it certainly isn't out of the question.

 

"I've always believed in looking forward and while I won't be point-racing, I know what's going-on around me," Sean Kennedy said. "I have to finish as close to the front of the field as possible to stay in the hunt, going into the stretch-drive. If everything goes according to plan, we'll have a great end to the year."

 

4Fun is the entry level class at the track known as Canada's Toughest 3rd of a Mile Paved Oval and Kennedy has done his best to be on good terms with his fellow competitors. During the annual Chase for the Colours Pole Qualifier – Sunday, July 2nd – the driver of the #9 machine was running in a top 5 position when he pulled-off the track with less than 10 laps to go. Because he won't be running the season ending Autumn Colours Classic, he didn't want to be in the way of another driver's chance to win.

 

A week later, he got caught-up in a multi car incident that caused the team some extra time in the shop, where they needed to replace some body panels, suspension components and even a few sponsorship markings to get the car ready for the next event on the schedule. And to show that the team had been successful in getting everything back together, after turning some fast laps during the pre-race practice, Sean Kennedy scored a runner-up finish – Saturday, July 15th – when the 4Fun division ran a 50-lap feature event. He says its all part of the short track racing experience.

 

"You have to be willing to take the good with the bad," the driver admitted. "There will be ups and downs; highs and lows. Anything that happened to our team could've just as easily been an issue for someone else. We're all happy to help each other out when the chips are down."

 

Saturday, July 29th, Sean Kennedy picked-up a qualifying heat win and finished 3rd in a caution-free feature event.

WEST HAVEN, Vt. – Dylan Rabtoy is keeping things interesting at The Asphalt Track at Devil's Bowl Speedway.  The young stock car driver won his second NASCAR Whelen All-American Series race of the season on Community College of Vermont Night on Saturday, July 29, and further tightened an already-close battle for the championship.  Also in the winner's circle during the night were Jarrod Soucy, Cam Gadue, and Stephanie Roberts.

Rabtoy's triumph came in the 30-lap feature race for the Rosen & Berger Auto Recyclers Super Stock division.  The 18 year-old Swanton, Vt., native started in third place and ran in second for most of the event, trailing leader R.J. Germain.  As nearly every car in the field bounced off another, Rabtoy reeled in Germain and point leader and defending champion Jim McKiernan caught them both.  Rabtoy stole the lead from Germain with 10 circuits remaining, but McKiernan dogged him the whole way home.

After a long green-flag run, caution periods on laps 26 and 27 gave McKiernan two chances to wrestle the lead away, and he certainly made an exciting effort at it.  Rabtoy anticipated McKiernan's moves, though, and held him off in an electric run to the checkered flag for his second win of the season.

McKiernan settled for second place, and Jared Blake came out ahead in a logjam for third, posting his career-best finish.  Scott FitzGerald grabbed fourth, and Austin McKiernan – Jim's son – came from 14th at the start to run in fifth.  Rookie Kelsea Woodard was an impressive sixth, followed by Tony Salerno, Germain, Brett Wood, and Dave Aiken.  Unofficially, McKiernan's point lead over Rabtoy shrunk to just six points, 452-446.

Jarrod Soucy of Marlboro, Mass., came out on top of a caution-filled 50-lap race for the visiting Northeast Mini Stock Tour.  Soucy's highly-modified Volkswagen Jetta was strong throughout the race, but was tested by Matt Sonnhalter, Emerson Cayer, and Mike Viens for the top spot.  After the yellow flags subsided, Soucy walked away with the checkered flag for his first win of the season on the tour.

Cayer and Viens, each driving Ford Mustangs, made a big charge in the final laps and finished in the runner-up and third-place spots, respectively.  Haywood Herriott finished fourth with Jake Rheaume fifth.  Nick Anderson and Justin King were the last cars on the lead lap, followed by Justin Faford, Kodi Sabins, and Matt Boucher.

Rookie Cam Gadue of Highgate, Vt. – a teammate to Super Stock winner Rabtoy – scored an upset career-first win in the 15-lap feature for the weekly Portland Glass Mini Stock division.  One day after his 18th birthday, Gadue was running well in second place and pressuring leader Andrew FitzGerald in a tight pack of traffic when FitzGerald's car broke on the final lap, causing him to lose momentum.

Gadue was quick to respond and pounced on the lead to take the win.  Point leader and fellow rookie Shawn Moquin threaded the needle as cars scrambled to take the second spot, while FitzGerald muscled his car home in a disappointing third place, one spot ahead of his brother, Roo Forrest.  Garrett Given completed the top five, followed by Johnny Bruno, Kyle Botala, Kaleb Shepard, Samantha Stoddard, and Jeff Murray.

Stephanie Roberts of Fletcher, Vt., became the first two-time winner in the new Ladies Mini Stock division, taking a 10-lap feature in a photo finish.  Lynn Denton led the entire distance and looked poised to become the fifth different winner in as many Ladies Mini Stock races, but Roberts' last-lap run on the outside lane paid off at the finish line.  Denton was credited with second ahead of Maddy Rabtoy, Sami Sargent, and Alayne Bruno.

Devil's Bowl Speedway returns to action on The Dirt Track on Sunday, July 30, as Brown's Quarried Slate and Brown's Orchard & Farm Stand present the popular Street-Legal Spectator Races along with the Sportsman Modifieds, Mini Stocks, the Catamount Mini Sprints, and a two-segment special for the Super Stocks.  General admission is $12.00 for adults, $10.00 for seniors (62+), $5.00 for teenagers (13-17), and free for kids age 12 and under. Gates open at 5:00 p.m., and racing begins at 6:00 p.m.
