Gravel Sets New Track Record to Earn Milk Bowl Pole

Barre, Vt. – Wolcott's Marcel J. Gravel will lead the 55th Vermont Milk Bowl presented by Northfield Savings Bank on Sunday, October 1. The sophomore Thunder Road Late Model competitor circled the high banks in 12.236 seconds to set a new track record, eclipsing the previous mark of 12.245 seconds set by Sylvain Metievier at the 1995 Milk Bowl.

 

Gravel was the 32nd driver to take time on Booth Bros./H.P. Hood Milk Bowl Qualifying Day and laid down the record-breaking lap on his first trip around the speedway. In doing so, he knocked South Burlington's Trampas Demers off the top spot. Demers settled for second with a near-record time of 12.267 seconds and will start on the outside pole on Sunday.

 

Defending Milk Bowl Champion Nick Sweet of Barre will start third in the Milk Bowl after taking the victory in the first 50-lap qualifying race. Sweet got the jump on Hinesburg's Bobby Therrien following a lap-43 restart and survived a trio of late cautions for the win.

 

Colchester's Scott Payea also got by Therrien in the closing laps for second. Therrien, Josh Masterson, Darrell Morin, Ray Christian III, Jesse Switser, and Christopher Pelkey finished third through eighth to transfer into the Milk Bowl.

 

Milton's Scott Dragon took the win in the second 50-lap qualifier to earn the fourth starting spot in tomorrow's Milk Bowl. Dragon came out on top of a back-and-forth battle with Williamstown's Jimmy Hebert and Barre's Jason Corliss over the final 14 laps to earn the win.

 

Corliss took second with Hebert third. Cody Blake, Mike Bailey, Eric Chase, Brooks Clark, and Jonathan Bouvrette also finished in qualifying spots. Matt White, Ricky Roberts, Evan Hallstrom, and Kyle Pembroke fell back on their time trial speeds to earn a Milk Bowl starting position.

 

While Sweet is comfortably in the show, fellow three-time Milk Bowl winners Patrick Laperle and Kevin Lepage will be going to the Last Chance "B" Feature on Sunday after failing to make the main event on Saturday. Vermont Governor Phil Scott and NASCAR Pinty's Series Champion Alex Labbé are also on the outside looking in.

 

Craftsbury Common's Mike Martin emerged from a late battle to win Segment 1 of the Lenny's Shoe & Apparel Flying Tiger Mini Milk Bowl. Martin dueled with Morrisville's Dwayne Lanphear for 10 laps before finally getting the break with three laps to go in the 40-lap segment for the victory.

 

Joel Hodgon got underneath Lanphear in the final circuits for second, with Brendan Moodie and polesitter Jason Woodard completing the top five.

 

Lyndonville's Dean Switser Jr. was the winner in Segment 1 of the Allen Lumber Street Stock Mini Milk Bowl. The veteran earned the pole in time trials and was never headed from the top spot in the 25-lap segment.

 

Lincoln's Garry Bashaw finished second with E. Thetford's Brandon Gray third. Will Hennequin, Jamie Davis, Gary Mullen, Stephen Martin, Kelsea Woodard, Logan Powers, and Issac Spaulding completed the top-10.

 

Lower Waterford's Andy Hill grabbed the win in Segment 1 for the New England Dwarf Cars. Hill took the lead on lap four and held on through a pair of late restarts. Jason Wyman finished second followed by polesitter Dave Gyger, Tommy Smithers, and Colby Bourgeois.

 

Barre's Jared Blakely was a first-time winner in the 30-lap Burnett Scrap Metals Road Warriors feature. Blakely had surrendered the lead to fellow hometown driver Jeffrey Martin with five laps remaining, but got back underneath him in traffic two laps later to take the victory in the caution free event. Craftsbury's Jesse Gerrow completed the podium.

 

The Last Chance "B" Feature for the Thunder Road Late Models will role to the line at 12:15pm on Sunday, October 1 to set the final four Milk Bowl starting spots. Opening ceremonies for the 55th Vermont Milk Bowl presented by Northfield Savings Bank begin at 1:00pm. Adult admission is $30 for adults and free for kids age 12 and under.

La saison des longues courses dans la catégorie Super Late Model débute en fin de semaine au Fairgrounds Speedway de Nashville alors que Raphael Lessard participera à la prestigieuse course duAll-American 400 dimanche à 14 h HE. Cette course de 400 tours en sera à sa 33e édition. Trois des cinq prochaines courses de Raphaël seront en effet des courses de 300 tours (1) ou de 400 tours (2). Dès la course de Nashville complétée, Lessard et sa Toyota Camry #99 prendront la route vers Winchester, Indiana, pour le prestigieux Winchester 400.

LATE MODEL DRIVERS FLOCKING

 TO MOMS OF LANCASTER FALL BRAWL

 

            The 2017 edition of the Moms of Lancaster Fall Brawl at Speedway 51 powered by the Autosaver Group in Groveton, New Hampshire appears to be alive and well and the Late Models will be featuring a very diverse group of drivers from throughout the Northeast, Canada and North Carolina. The Fall Brawl event features the Lil Joey Generation Next 151 for Late Models. The race is a 151 lap Late Model challenge paying $5,000 to win and a healthy purse throughout the field. The top five positions pay a whopping total of $15,000.

 

            2016 winner, Bobby Therrien from Hinesburg, Vermont has filed an early entry and will be back to defend his title. Other strong early entries include 2017 WMMP champion Quinney Welch, plus strong runners like Russ Clark, Scott Corey, Kevin Boutin and Brendan Moodie.

 

            A strong Canadian contingency have filed entries and leading the way is the "Favorite Son" from Canada, Patrick LaPerle. Joining him will be fellow Canadians Donald Theetge, Claude LeClerc, Steve Cote', Jonathan Bouvrette, Mathieu Kingsbury, JP Quimet, Brendon White, and Simon Roussin.

 

            A surprise entry has been filed from a young Late Model driver from Statesville, North Carolina. Fourteen year old, Ryan Millington will make the long journey north to Groveton, New Hampshire. Millington recorded nine wins and captured the championship at the prestigious, and legendary, Hickory Motor Speedway in Hickory, North Carolina. Millington regularly competed against Kyle Busch owned cars and many other big names and second generation drivers. Millington's father, Scott Millington was originally from the Northeast area, and raced in the old Mini-Stock division with Speedway 51 owner Joey Laquerre.

 

            Joining the Late Models will be the Tiger Sportsman, Street Stocks, Daredevils, and the Cyclones and Angels will be having their championship events. Post time for the Fall Brawl is 1pm. Grandstands open at 10am, and the pits open up for Late Models at 8am, and 9am for all other classes. Adults are just $25, Seniors and Military just $20, Teens 12-16 $10, and Kids 11 and under are free.

            Street Stocks: All Street Stocks from Speedway 51, Thunder Road and White             Mountain Motorsports Park.

 

            Cyclones: All Cyclones from Speedway 51, and Warriors from Thunder Road, and   any car that meets the Cyclones specifications.

Barre, Vt. – The 55th Vermont Milk Bowl presented by Northfield Saving Bank is just days away at Barre's Thunder Road. The latest edition of the historic event will come to the starting grid at 1:00pm on Sunday, October 1, capping what will be an action-packed weekend featuring the best Late Model racers and teams in the region.

 

Excitement has been building all month for the historic event that dates back to 1962. With its unique three-segment format and storied tradition, the Milk Bowl has taken on a special significance to the teams that compete in it, and dozens of top drivers will be looking to join the exclusive fraternity of winners or add another entry into the record books.

 

"The Milk Bowl is the most prestigious race for me," defending Milk Bowl Champion Nick Sweet of Barre said. "I know there are guys that aspire to bigger and better things, but I'm telling you, this hometown race is the biggest thing in my racing career. So I can't wait for this weekend. It's going to be hard to top what I've accomplished the last couple years, but hopefully we can go out there and do well. Ultimately, the key is to have fun. I don't know the cow's name this year, but I'd really like to meet her!"

 

"The Milk Bowl is 'The Big One' at Thunder Road," 2016 "King of the Road" Scott Dragon of Milton added. "My father (Bobby) has won it, my cousin (Brent) has won it, and my uncle (Beaver) even won it, so it would be nice to be able to win it as well – especially being that we're run at Thunder Road the last several years and the place really means something to me now. It would be really cool and would mean a lot to say you've won it."

 

Sweet and Dragon will be among the many top drivers at Thunder Road this weekend looking to became the latest Milk Bowl winner. Along with Sweet, fellow three-time winners Patrick Laperle of St-Denis, Qué. and Kevin Lepage of Shelburne will also be gunning for a record-tying fourth Milk Bowl win. Dragon will be joined by Thunder Road stars such as recently-crowned "King of the Road" Bobby Therrien of Hinesburg, Barre's Jason Corliss and Cody Blake, and South Burlington's Trampas Demers.

 

Outsiders and regional racers who will be seeking the 55th Vermont Milk Bowl win include current American-Canadian Tour (ACT) point leader Scott Payea of Milton, multi-time ACT winner Dillon Moltz of Waterford, Conn., two-time Devil's Bowl Speedway Champion Josh Masterson of Charlotte and new White Mountain Motorsports Park Champion Quinny Welch of Groveton, N.H. Current Serié ACT Champion Jonathan Bouvrette of Blainville, Qué. and 2014 Serié ACT Champion Alex Labbé of St. Albert, Qué. join Laperle in representing the Canadian province.

 

The weekend begins on Friday, September 30 with an optional practice day for the Thunder Road Late Models, Lenny's Shoe & Apparel Flying Tigers, and Allen Lumber Street Stocks from 1:00pm to 5:00pm, followed by the Junior Champ Karting Series season finale. Booth Bros./ H.P. Hood Milk Bowl Qualifying Day on Saturday, September 30 at 1:00pm will feature time trials and "Triple 50" qualifying races to help set the Milk Bowl starting field. The Flying Tigers, Street Stocks, and New England Dwarf Cars will have time trials and Segment 1 of their two-segment "Mini Milk Bowls" while the Burnett Scrap Metals Road will have a Saturday-only event.

 

Sunday's action will begin at 12:15pm with the Last Chance "B" Feature to complete the Milk Bowl starting grid. Opening ceremonies for the 55th Vermont Milk Bowl presented by Northfield Savings Bank begin at 1:00pm. The Flying Tigers, Street Stocks, and Dwarf Cars will run Segment 2 of their Mini Milk Bowls on Sunday.

 

Adult admission for the 55th Vermont Milk Bowl is $30 for a two-day ticket or $10 for Saturday only with kids age 12 and under admitted free both days. The front gates will open at 10:00am and the pit gates will open at 8:00am on both Saturday and Sunday.

Hagersville (Ontario, Canada), le 25 septembre 2017 – Hier, sur le circuit ovale du Jukasa Motor Speedway, partant de la 17e position, Jean-François Dumoulin s'est hissé et maintenu dans le peloton de tête avec sa voiture #04 Spectra Premium / Bernier Crépeau / Groupe Bellemare / MIA. Malgré une séance d'essais et de qualification laborieuse, la voiture s'est améliorée dans le dernier tiers des 200 tours de l'épreuve et Jean-François Dumoulin a pu conserver la deuxième position pendant plusieurs tours. Il a livré une bataille sans relâche parmi les meneurs jusqu'au moment où son pneu avant droit a subi une crevaison lente ce qui l'a forcé à perdre quelques positions et à protéger la cinquième place jusqu'à la ligne d'arrivée.

 

Aux prises avec une voiture sous-vireuse en mi-journée, l'équipe #04 Spectra Premium / Bernier Crépeau / Groupe Bellemare / MIA a modifié la majorité des réglages. De plus, deux compétiteurs en faute ont accroché la voiture à la sortie des puits lors des essais, causant des dommages à l'avant gauche du véhicule. 

« L'équipe #04 Spectra Premium / Bernier Crépeau / Groupe Bellemare / MIA a effectué un travail exemplaire aujourd'hui. Nous sommes partis loin, toutefois les arrêts aux puits ont été efficaces et la détermination était présente à tous les niveaux. C'était très compétitif et je me suis battu à l'avant du peloton avec les leaders et avec mon frère Louis-Philippe. La crevaison lente a ralenti le rythme à quelques tours de la fin alors que le podium était à notre portée. Le radiateur Spectra Premium NSCR100 termine la saison avec trois podiums et onze top-cinq.

Dans la « Course contre le cancer » chaque geste est un pas de plus vers le podium. Réservez la date : Le 9 octobre prochain aura lieu le « Party BBQ » avec toute l'équipe de Dumoulin Compétition au Provigo Le Marché de Trois-Rivières (16h30 à 19h). Jean-François, Louis-Philippe Dumoulin, les deux remorques et bolides seront sur place.

PENSACOLA, Floride, samedi le 23 septembre – La soirée de Raphaël Lessard n'aura pas été aussi longue que prévue samedi soir malgré d'excellents résultats lors des pratiques de vendredi et samedi où il était constamment parmi les dix premiers. Le jeune pilote de la Toyota Camry #99, qui participait à la finale du championnat de la Southern Super Series (SSS) en Floride, n'aura réalisé que 27 tours sur les 125 prévus dans le cadre du Deep South Cranes 125 sur l'ovale du Five Flags Speedway de Pensacola, suite à un bris d'équipement.

 

Alors que tout semblait présager une autre belle performance de Raphaël, c'est lors de l'inspection technique de samedi après-midi que les choses se sont compliquées. Le pilote du programme de développement Toyota (TRD) a reçu une pénalité pour un problème de garde au sol trop basse, bien que sa voiture soit passée trois fois devant les officiels. Il fut alors pénalisé d'un tour de qualification. Raphaël n'a eu droit donc qu'à un seul tour de qualification au lieu de deux.

 

Le pilote de la voiture Toyota Camry #99 FRL Express/Toyota-TRD/JBL Audio de l'équipe de course David Gilliland Racing a été en mesure d'établir le 19e meilleur temps en seulement un tour. S'élançant donc de l'arrière du peloton, Lessard n'a pas eu le temps d'effectuer une remontée comme il sait les faire avant que sa course ne se termine abruptement au 27e tour.

 

Raphaël Lessard a eu un contact avec le mur après qu'un roulement de sa roue avant droite ne se casse. Un bris qui n'est pas de sa faute, mais qui est tout de même frustrant puisqu'il ne parvint à faire que le quart de la course.

 

« Je suis très déçue de ma soirée, ce n'est pas du tout ce que j'avais envisagé comme résultat. Par contre, ça ne sert à rien de trop y penser, nos deux courses importantes sont à venir et la voiture sera prête pour les deux épreuves de 400 tours, » déclare Lessard.

 

Les deux prochaines courses au calendrier de Raphaël seront palpitantes à suivre alors qu'il participera à deux épreuves mythiques de 400 tours avec les meilleurs pilotes de SLM. Premièrement, le All American 400 sur le Fairground Speedway à Nashville au Tennessee, puis le Winchester 400 sur l'ovale du Winchester Speedway en Indiana. Le All American 400 se déroulera le 1er octobre, tandis que le Winchester 400 sera la semaine d'après, le 8 octobre.

PLATTSBURGH – Alex LaJoie was in position to capitalize on a late race opportunity when leader, Bucko Branham slipped up the track in turn three on lap-46 and LaJoie powered by on the inside for the DIRTcar Sportsman Series win at Airborne Park Speedway.

                Cedric Gauvreau and Bri Ladouceur led the field down to the initial green flag of the 50-lap main event. Gauvreau took the lead and showed the way until lap-20. At that point, LaJoie looked inside of Gauvreau and completed the pass for the lead.

                The lead was short lived though, as LaJoie jumped the cushion in turn one and "The Professor" Branham drove by down low.

                Branham would lead the next 13 laps before he jumped the cushion in turn three. LaJoie pulled under Branham but Branham would pull alongside just half a lap later. The top two raced side by side for five laps before Branham pulled well off turn two on lap-40 and took the lead back.

                Branham began to pull away before another mistake on lap-46 opened the door for LaJoie to sneak through. Branham tried to rally again and LaJoie worked upon heavy lapped traffic. On the final lap, Branham had a look to the outside of LaJoie and had momentum, but a lapped car slowed Branham's progress and he had to settle for second behind LaJoie.

                Robert Delormier ran a smooth race and finished in the third spot. Mike Stacey and Cedric Gauvreau finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

                "It feels great to win after such a busy weekend," LaJoie said. "After wrecking on Friday night in the heat race, this a great rebound for the weekend. I also enjoyed racing with the 20 car, he raced me very clean and I appreciate that."

                Steve Bernier collected his second win of the season in the Leon Gonyo Memorial Modified feature. Bernier took the lead on lap-21 and never looked back.

                Patrick Dupree and Todd Stone led the field to the green flag, but Dupree spun in turn one and collected Bernier, sending both cars to the rear.

                Stone led until a lap-4 restart when Mike Perrotte worked past on the outside. The lead held up until lap-21 when Bernier worked by on the outside groove.

                Perrotte held on for second with Chris Raabe finishing a close third. Stone and George Foley finished in position four and five.

                Brent Jarvis collected win number 11 of the season in the Poirier's True Value Renegade division. Jarvis also claimed the championship in the division. Shawn Duquette was the apparent second place finisher on track, but problems in the tech line found his machine illegal. Jimmy Bushey was placed second with Tylor Terry being placed third.

                Cam Gadue turned his first start into a good one in the Busch Beer Mini-Mod division by picking up the feature victory. Point champion, Mike Whalen finished in second with Josh LaPorte rounding out the podium.

                Shawn Walker scored for the fifth time in the Strictly Stock division. Jay Sprano finished in the second spot with the champion of the division, Rolland Guay finishing in third.
