Through this new partnership, GOVX will serve as the Presenting Sponsor and Official Verification Partner of the NASCAR Miltix program, offering discounted race tickets of 15% off or more to NASCAR-owned tracks nationwide. Eligible service members will be able to access this benefit through both NASCAR.com and GOVX.com.

 

First responders and other Americans of service will also be eligible to receive the ticket discount offering through the partnership. With an existing membership of over 9.5M, GOVX will help to amplify NASCAR's commitment to this deserving community.

Night of Champions

PLATTSBURGH, NY— Following a successful first year back as the promoters of Airborne Park Speedway, Mike and Alayne Bruno will wrap up the 2024 season at Airborne Park Speedway with one final event, the Night of Champions Banquet. With a full year of great racing that saw the title fight in all four regular divisions come down to the final night of racing, and more than 30 different feature winners, the bow will be put on 2024 and eyes will turn to 2025.

The Rainbow Banquet Hall in Altona, New York, in conjunction with the Bruno family, will host the season-ending awards ceremony and party this Friday, November 22, beginning at 5:30 and going until midnight. Cocktail hour will begin at 6:00 before a buffet dinner is offered at 7:00. The awards will begin at 8:00.

Track announcer Marty Kelly will host the event as the master of ceremonies, and the top-15 drivers in Moore Recycling Mini Stock points, including Champion Ryan Senecal, will be recognized following the welcome remarks. Then, each division's rookie of the year will be honored. The 9th State Cannabis Renegade top-15 will then be recognized with Champion Shawn Duquette, followed by a special presentation of the Airborne Park Speedway Dedication Award by the Bruno family.

The second half of the program will begin with the top-15 drivers in J&S Steel Sportsman points, including Champion Donovan Lussier, and the peer-voted sportsmanship awards in each class. Then, the Be Cool Heating, Cooling and Refrigeration 358 Modified top-10 will be recognized, with Mike Mahaney collecting his crown for winning the title.

Capping off the evening will be another special presentation by the Bruno family, the Leon Gonyo Award, which will be awarded to an individual or family who has significant contributions to racing at the Airborne Park Speedway.

Finally, track promoter Mike Bruno will address the room with closing remarks and an update on the state of racing at Airborne Park Speedway and a glimpse into the 2025 season and beyond. The evening will finish up with music and dancing to follow.

Airborne Park Speedway wishes to remind attendees of the dress code that applies to this event. Blue jeans, ripped clothing, sweatshirts and hoodies, sweatpants, sneakers, logos and writing on clothes are all prohibited.

The Rainbow Banquet Hall is located at 47 Woods Falls Road in Altona, New York, just 30 minutes northwest of the Airborne Park Speedway via Interstate 87 and Rte. 190.

MARTINSVILLE, Va. (Oct. 26, 2024) – Justin Bonsignore wasn't going to be denied his fourth NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour championship, as he dominated the season finale Virginia is for Racing Lovers 300 at Martinsville Speedway to take home the Grandfather Clock and the year-end title.

 

The championship marks Bonsignore's fourth title (2018, 2020, 2021, 2024), and the win – his first at Martinsville Speedway – gave him sole possession of second on the all-time Whelen Modified Tour wins list with 45.

 

A late-season surge in which he won the final three races of the season gave Bonsignore the edge over two-time Tour champion Ron Silk, as they carried their season-long contentious championship battle into the final race of season for the second year in a row.

 

"A year of hard work, a lot of ups and downs, the middle of September wasn't looking good, all of a sudden we got hot," Bonsignore said in Victory Lane. "Three in a row is something I've never done in my career, and to cap it off with a Grandfather Clock is just really awesome."

 

A year ago, Silk led Bonsignore by 13 points heading into the Martinsville season finale and held on to win the championship, but the tables were turned this year.

 

The pair of wins in the last two races leading into Martinsville gained Bonsignore a 10-point advantage over his rival as the title race loomed. The No. 51 Ken Massa Motorsports team brought the same car – the one with which Bonsignore won those races at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park and North Wilkesboro Speedway -- to Martinsville. They unloaded fast again, as he led practice and then won the pole for the championship race.

 

Silk, however, struggled in qualifying and started 13th in the race. And while Silk showed moments of speed, his championship hopes ultimately dissolved when mechanical issues took him out of the race with 60 laps remaining. He was relegated to a 17th-place finish.

 

The championship moment was especially meaningful for Bonsignore after he went home empty-handed following the season finale at Martinsville the last two seasons.

 

"We watched other people celebrate two years in a row here and we lost, and that's tough to watch back," said Bonsignore. "Just a lot of hard work by Ryan Stone and Ken Massa to keep things going in the direction we want to go.

 

"It's really had to put into words just how special this stuff is."

 

Matt Hirschman finished second, while Jacob Lutz was third. Austin Beers and Ryan Newman rounded out the top five.

 

Bonsignore finished the season with 673 points, while Silk finished second in the standings with 641. Patrick Emerling also put together a solid second half of the season with three wins and was third in the standings with 635 points.

 

Trevor Catalano was crowned the Sunoco Rookie of the Year after finishing eighth in points this season. He captured a win at Monadnock Speedway in July and recorded three top-five and four top-10 finishes this season.

 

The day which ended with the crowning of the 2024 champion opened with exciting news about 2025 and beyond for the Tour. NASCAR officials announced an extension of the entitlement partnership of the Tour, as Whelen Engineering, Inc. returns to the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour through 2029 in a partnership that guarantees increased team payouts starting with the 2025 season. The extension of the entitlement of the Whelen Modified Tour brings the partnership to 25 years in 2029, making them one of the longest-running sponsors in NASCAR.

 

While the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour concluded their season at Martinsville Speedway, the half-mile track in Virginia still has one more race weekend remaining on the calendar for 2024.

 

Next weekend, the NASCAR Playoff races at Martinsville will set the Championship 4 for all three NASCAR national series. The weekend opens featuring the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series Zip Buy Now, Pay Later 200 on Friday, Nov. 1.  

  

On Saturday, Nov. 2, fans can witness the action of the NASCAR Xfinity Series National Debt Relief 250 as drivers take to the track for an intense battle. Then, on Sunday, Nov. 3, drivers in the NASCAR Cup Series will compete for those final spots in the Championship 4 in the Xfinity 500, the penultimate race of the season.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Oct. 26, 2024) – NASCAR today announced an extension of the entitlement partnership of its original series as Whelen Engineering, Inc. returns to the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour through 2029 in a partnership that guarantees increased team payouts starting with the 2025 season. In conjunction with the announcement, NASCAR released the 16-race 2025 Whelen Modified Tour schedule.

 

Whelen's commitment to the Whelen Modified Tour in the coming years will see the largest Tour purse increase in the last decade, with championship prize money increasing by 250%. Additionally, the entire starting field will see the benefits of the new partnership, as each entry will see a minimum $2,000 payout to start the race – in several cases more than double the current payout for lower-finishing positions. Race winners will get a minimum of $11,000 in Whelen payout.

Competitors in the Whelen Modified Tour will begin seeing the benefits of the extended partnership next season at the season opener at New Smyrna Speedway on Saturday, Feb. 8. This will mark the fourth consecutive year that the Tour will open at the track that is just down the road from the birthplace of NASCAR.

 

The Whelen Modified Tour is NASCAR's oldest and original series, which began racing in 1948 in Daytona Beach. The partnership between Whelen and the Tour originated with the 2005 season, and over the past two decades, Whelen has demonstrated a continued commitment to the dedicated fans and competitors of the Tour. The extension of the entitlement of the Whelen Modified Tour brings the partnership to 25 years in 2029, making them one of the longest-running sponsors in NASCAR.

The Tour will continue to partner with NASCAR national series event weekends to highlight the extremely competitive nature of the racing. On Sunday, May 18, the Whelen Modified Tour will be part of a unique double-header as the opening act for the NASCAR Cup Series All-Star Race at North Wilkesboro Speedway.

 

Richmond Raceway will host the Tour on Thursday, Aug. 14, as part of its late summer NASCAR weekend, and the Tour joins the lineup for the NASCAR Playoff weekend at New Hampshire Motor Speedway with a Saturday, Sept. 20, race.

 

On Saturday, Oct. 18, Martinsville Speedway will again host the championship race as an opener for a week of camping and fan activity that leads into the national series Playoff weekend.

 

Fan favorite Whelen Modified Tour tracks such as Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park (Connecticut), Monadnock Speedway (New Hampshire), and Riverhead Raceway (New York) will each host multiple events.

Thompson will host a trio of high-profile events, starting with the Sunday, March 30, event as part of the Icebreaker Weekend – now the second race on the Tour's schedule. They will also host a Wednesday night mid-summer showdown on Aug. 6, and the penultimate race of the season as part of the World Series of Speedway Racing on Sunday, Oct. 12.

 

Monadnock will host two events on Saturday, May 3, and Saturday, July 19. Riverhead will have a pair of races on Saturday, June 14, and Saturday, Sept. 6.

 

Seekonk Speedway (Saturday, May 31), Lancaster Motorplex (Saturday, July 12), Oswego Speedway (Saturday, Aug. 30) will once again host Tour races next season. Additionally, White Mountain Motorsports Park returns to the Whelen Modified Tour schedule for 2025. The New Hampshire track previously held a pair of Tour races in 2020.

 

"The short tracks of the Northeast are at the heart of the Whelen Modified Tour and offer so many options for our teams to compete close to home in front of their friends and family," added Wilson. "We have strong historic ties to many of these facilities and all host great events for everyone who comes through their gates."

 

The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour will crown its champion later today (Saturday, Oct. 26) at 8 p.m. ET at Martinsville Speedway.

 

Over the two-decade partnership Whelen has held with the Modified Tour, 10 different drivers have won the Whelen Modified Tour championship, led by Doug Coby's six titles (2012, 2014-17, 2018) and three from Justin Bonsignore (2018, 2020, 2021). Ron Silk, the reigning champion, also won the title in 2011.

 

This season, in one of the more thrilling – and contentious – championship battles in Tour history, Silk and Bonsignore are continuing the rivalry stemming from their down-to-the-wire title bout from a year ago.

 

Silk entered the penultimate race of the season last week at North Wilkesboro Speedway up by 11 points. But a dominate win on Sunday afternoon by Bonsignore flipped the script and put the driver of the No. 51 atop the points standings for the first time since August with a 10-point advantage entering the finale. Each driver heads into the championship race with four wins and 14 top 10s.

Main Event Sunday at the 31st Annual APC Autumn Colours Classic

Giving thanks was easy as talented group of short track racers and a near capacity crowd gathered for the featured events of the 31st annual APC Autumn Colours Classic – Sunday, October 13th – at Peterborough Speedway.

Local favourites Ryan Kimball and Dan McHattie brought the KOD Disposal Late Model field to the green flag for the Electric City 167. Kimball – the 2024 Peterborough track champion – was the early race leader, as slower traffic was put a lap down with only 11 laps on the scoreboard. McHattie, who had been closing on Kimball took over the top spot with 17 laps complete. The race pace was slowed for an incident in the 3rd turn, with the No. 71 of McHattie holding the lead on the restart and moving out to an advantage of more than10 cars over his closest challenger. Several yellow flags may have slowed the race pace, but McHattie – a multi-time track champion and former Autumn Colours winner – was the leader at the lap 82 competition caution. Picking-up where he left off following the mid-race break, McHattie lost the lead to Kimball in lapped traffic, with Andrew Gresel taking control of the event on a lap 123 restart. The former Autumn Colours Classic winner maintained the race lead through a series of late-stage caution flags to take the win. Dustyn Mombourquette, McHattie, Kelly Balson and Brandt Graham rounded-out the top 5 finishers.
A 40-lap tilt for the Trailers Plus Ontario Legend Car Series, presented by B & G Towing and Recovery. Matt Boyes and Wes Cuthbertson brought the starting field from the staging area for the season ending main event. Boyes was the early race leader, but the pace was slowed quickly for an incident on the front stretch. With the field back under green, Wes Cuthbertson was the new race leader and was joined by Cole McFadden and Adam Cuthbertson. Several caution flags slowed the field, with Mitch Wright taking the race lead following a lap 13 yellow. The No. 21 car has been strong throughout the year and his Autumn Colours Classic run was no exception. Wright held the lead for the balance of the main event to score the race win over Wes Cuthbertson. Jade Franklin, Cole McFadden and Jordan Latimer completed the top 5.
With Phil Givens and Jo Lawrence on the front row, the Battlefield Equipment Rental Bone Stock teams took to the track known for 'Making Memories for Life' with a 40-lap feature standing in the way of an Autumn Colours Classic title. With Givens leading, the pace was slowed by a pair of early race caution flags. Given and Lawrence broke away from the pack with a lead of about 10 car lengths over the 3rd place runner before a late race yellow brought the pack back together for a last chance showdown. Lawrence pushed his No. 28 ride to its limits and scored the win. Givens took the checkered flag in 2nd spot, with Spencer Riddell, Jordan Willms and Craig Cole next across the line.
Rob Bromley and Steve Book were on the front row as the OSCAAR Hot Rod runners rolled-out for their 'A' main event. From the drop of the green flag, the pair had control of the pack and started working through some slower cars with 10 laps on the scoreboard. With close to a dozen laps complete, Rick Spencer-Walt wheeled the No. 31 into the lead and held the position through a lap 14 yellow flag and the subsequent restart. Another caution period slowed the pace, but Spencer-Walt was up to the challenge and had close to a half track's advantage over the 2nd place runner. Rick Spencer-Walt was first to the checkered flag to claim the win. Bromley, Amanda Balson, Book and Tyler Hawn completed the top 5.
With 67 laps to settle the score on the table, the SwitchTire Mini Stock feature – in memory of Melissa Bullen – saw Shawn Taylor and 2023 Track Champion Nolan Gould leading the way. Taylor – who has an Autumn Colours Classic win on his resume – showed the fast way around during the early stages and was part of a group of 9 runners that was working through the pack with about 25 laps on the scoreboard. Doug Butler challenged Taylor for the lead and came out with the top spot as the lap counter showed 50 complete. Charlie Smith was the benefactor in a green, white checkered finish and parked his No. 95 ride in Dart Heating and Air Conditioning Victory Lane. Will Gibbons, James Townsend, Mike Nelson and Bobby Mercer chased Smith across the stripe.
Lane Zardo and Paul Pepper had the front row spots for the Jiffy Lube Super Stock 40-lap feature tilt. The Zardo name has been synonymous with success in the season-ending event at Peterborough Speedway and the 2024 edition was no exception. Even with multiple yellow flags throughout the race distance and some finger-pointing in the winner's circle, Zardo managed to lead every lap on the way to his family's latest Autumn Colours Classic triumph. Shawn Chenoweth got the best of torrid battle with Tyler Hawn and Todd Davenport to take the runner-up spot. Coltin Everingham was 5th. Hard work by her crew allowed crowd favourite Marlie Owen to bounce-back from an issue that put her several laps down early to claim a top 10 finish.
A 50-lapper for the OSCAAR Modifieds closed-out the 31st edition of the APC Autumn Colours Classic, as Wally Wilson and Steve Trendell brought the pack to the Great Canadian RV green flag. Early race leader Wilson held the dominant hand until T.J. Edwards claimed the top spot with a dozen laps complete. The driver of the No. 34 piece was a man on a mission and quickly had an advantage of half a track over the 2nd and 3rd place runners. The night's finale ran from green flag to checkered without a yellow, as Edwards scored the win. Rick Spencer-Walt, Wilson, Trendell and Jason Keen completed the top 5 at the finish.
All finishing positions are unofficial and subject to scoring review and post race inspection.
Bullring bullet points: While early versions of the weekend weather forecast had many asking if events might be rescheduled or postponed, this year's edition of the APC Autumn Colours Classic entered the record books without a hitch. Although cloudy and cool during Sunday's championship finals, the raceday line-up was completed exactly as planned…With another version of the Super Bowl of Stock Car complete, track owner and promoter J.P. Josiasse would like to thank officials, staff and volunteers who are part of the regular season and Autumn Colours Classic schedule.

Rick Spencer-Walt (No. 31) claimed the Autumn Colours Classic OSCAAR Hot Rod Series checkered flag – Sunday, October 13th – at Peterborough Speedway.
Charlie Smith (No. 95) was the winner of the 67-lap SwitchTire Mini Stock Autumn Colours Classic main event (in memory of Melissa Bullen) – Sunday, October 13th – at Peterborough Speedway.
Continuing a family tradition Lane Zardo (No. 36) scored the Autumn Colours Classic Jiffy Lube Super Stock victory – Sunday, October 13th – at Peterborough Speedway.

NASCAR to Expand Campus Lab Program Starting Next Semester at Winston-Salem State University

The Initiative Launched in 2023 at Daytona-based HBCU Campus will be Available in Florida and North Carolina Starting in 2025

 

 

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Oct. 13, 2024) – After a successful kick-off semester at Bethune-Cookman University in Daytona Beach, NASCAR announced today the expansion of the Campus Lab Program. Starting in the spring semester of 2025, students at Winston-Salem State University will also have the opportunity to join the program that targets highly motivated students interested in pursuing careers in the fast-paced sports industry and will provide them with hands-on experience through a specialized curriculum.

 

"The goal of the NASCAR Campus Lab Program is to provide exposure to the motorsports industry, and we were able to accomplish that over the past year and a half since launching the program", said Caryn Grant, Senior Director of NASCAR Diversity and Inclusion. "As a result, we've introduced career opportunity, experience and guidance that has positively impacted participants, including a student from the inaugural cohort at Bethune-Cookman University who earned a spot in the NASCAR Diversity Internship Program and was then hired at NASCAR. We look forward to continuing to develop future professionals at Winston-Salem State University and making a similar impact."

 

Winston-Salem State University is located in North Carolina. It is the only HBCU and only public university to offer a motorsports management degree program. Currently, NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series driver Rajah Caruth is a full-time student at WSSU pursuing a degree in motorsports management. He made history earlier this year as the third Black driver to win a NASCAR national series race.

 

Students accepted to the NASCAR Campus Lab Program will get real-world experience developing a marketing activation while managing a set budget provided by NASCAR, compete in a case study competition, get a behind-the-scenes view of careers throughout the industry, be paired with a mentor from NASCAR's Black employee resource group, and receive resume and interview tips from human resources professionals.

 

Upon completion of the program, NASCAR will provide participating students with a scholarship prize, and at least one eligible student will earn a spot in the highly competitive NASCAR Diversity Internship Program for the upcoming summer. NDIP was launched in 2000 and since then more than 500 college students have participated in the industry's longest-running diversity initiative.

"We're thrilled to collaborate with NASCAR in establishing this innovative campus lab, which will provide our students with hands-on exposure to the motorsports industry," said WSSU Chancellor Bonita Brown. "This partnership opens the door to unique career opportunities, allowing our students to engage in STEM fields, business, and marketing. Together, we're breaking new ground and paving the way for a more diverse future in racing while positioning our students for successful careers in the motorsports industry."

 

The NASCAR Campus Lab Program is open to sophomores and juniors at Winston-Salem State University within the college of arts, sciences, business and education who have a demonstrated interest in working in the sports industry. Applications for the spring 2025 cohort will open October 8 and close November 1.
