”Thursday Night Thunder” returned to the Airborne Park Speedway this week, and the fans on hand were treated to a little bit of everything
Plattsburgh, NY-"Thursday Night Thunder" returned to the Airborne Park Speedway this week, and the fans on hand were treated to a little bit of everything. A new dad landed in victory lane. A wild finish in a special event for the Mini Stocks. Two first-time winners. And of course, kids' race car rides.
In the DirtCar 358 Modified 30-lap feature, Mike Mahaney roared from the ninth starting position on the grid to take the lead by lap 13 and cruise to victory. It's been a whirlwind 10 days for Mahaney, as his wife, Mandee, gave birth to the couple's first child, Emjay. He was also coming off a pair of top-six finishes in the Super DirtCar Series. It was clear "Smooth Shoe" had the car to beat from the drop of the green flag. The Elizabethtown, NY campaigner was picking off cars at a rapid clip and was in second behind early leader George Foley by lap 10. Mahaney blew past Foley on the frontstretch on lap 13 and ran away and hid from the field. Tim Fuller had a stout machine as well and moved to the second spot on lap 17, but couldn't run down Mahaney. Behind Mahaney and Fuller, Tanner Siemons was third, Dave Camara fourth, and Felix Roy fifth.
The Mini Stocks took to the track of "The Big A" next for their extra distance 20-lap special event with $1,000 to win. Jp Corrow took advantage of some bumping and banging on the final corner between the top two cars to snatch away the victory. After taking three restarts to get past lap one, several drivers swapped the point in the early going. Joshua Blake and Jeremiah King both led early laps before Glenn Engstrom took control on lap six. Engstrom led the next nine circuits before being overtaken by Nick Harnden on lap 16. Harnden's lead was short-lived as Speedy Bresette wrestled the lead from him on the next lap. Coming to turn three on the final lap, Bresette held a narrow advantage over Harnden and Corrow. Harnden got into the back of Bresette's machine, forcing him to bobble, and then proceeded to lose control himself, taking out one of the implement tires. Corrow was a spectator to all of that action and swept around the outside of "Senor Speed" off of turn four to collect the win and prime payday. Bresette held on for second. Engstrom, Stephen Bresette, and Jake Fountain completed the top five.
It was an emotional victory lane as Michael Wright won for the first time in his career in the J & S Steel Sportsmen Modified feature. Making it even more impactful for Wright was that he had to hold off one of the best in the business to do it. Chris Cayea fired from the pole and set the pace for the first 14 laps, and had fashioned a sizeable advantage. Caution flew on lap 13, changing the complexion of things. Cayea led the first lap after the restart, but Wright powered past him on lap 15 and stayed in front the rest of the way. Wright had to fend off a late challenge from Nick Heywood after the yellow came out with two to go. With the field tightened up for the restart, Wright chose the inside lane, not knowing that Heywood had used the top to make his charge. It didn't matter as Wright was quick on the trigger when the race went back to green, holding off Heywood for the victory. Heywood crossed the stripe second, followed by Travis Bruno, Cayea, and Matt Leonard. Despite coming up short, it was still a solid night for Heywood, who trailed Donovan Lussier by 12 points in the championship race coming in. Lussier headed to the pit area late in the race before returning with two to go and placing 15th.
Nathaniel Guay jumped to the lead from the second starting spot and led flag to flag to earn his first win of the season in the 9th State Cannabis Renegade feature. Guay had a dominant piece for most of the contest, leading by more than a half a straightaway for most of the event. Once he secured the second position, defending track champion Shawn Duquette started to chip into the margin every lap. In the closing stages, Duquette was able to pull up next to Guay on multiple occasions. Duquette's car seemed to drive off the corners better, but Guay was better going in. On the final turn, Guay ran high, with Duquette trying to sneak inside of him. The duo raced door handle to door handle to the checkered flag with Guay crossing the line first by a fender. Rounding out the top five with a ringside seat to the great battle were Brad Bushey, Tylor Terry, and Josh Terry.
After watching her sister collect a couple of first-place trophies this season, Sarah-Ann Lauziere breezed to the first win of her career in the 20-lap Limited Sportsman feature. Lauziere grabbed the lead from the No. 2 starting spot and never gave it up, building a lead of a full straightaway for the duration of the race. Kobe Hernandez, who has won multiple features during the season, quickly moved to the second spot but could not run Lauziere down. Every time Hernandez appeared to slice into the deficit, the youngster from St-Cyrille-de-Wendover, QC, found another gear. Hernandez held on for the runner-up spot, followed by Gary English, Lea-Jeanne Lauziere, and pole sitter Parker Dermody.
The action returns to Airborne Park Speedway on Thursday, August 21st, with a "Sportsman Special" featuring a "Win and You're in the Vermont 200" 50-lap feature with $1500 to win. The winner earns a guaranteed starting spot in the $10,000 Vermont 200. The 358 Modifieds, Limited Sportsman, Renegades, and Mini Stocks will also be in action. Grandstand admission is $15. Kids 12 and under are admitted free. Pit admission is $30 for members and $40 for non-members. Racing begins at 7 p.m.

Peterborough Speedway Bone Stock Fans are Noticing Victoria McLenon

In many instances, the Bone Stock division is seen as a proving ground for young racers looking to build their skills. Her 2025 performance in Peterborough Speedway's field – presented by Battlefield Equipment Rental – has shown fans that Victoria McLenon doesn't have a lot to prove.
Her recent qualifying heat win and a career best 3rd place main event finish have helped the 24-year-old racer from Oshawa, Ontario find her way into 4th spot in the point standings of a group where more than 30 different racers have scored results in this year's action. The driver of the No. 89 machine is only about 2 dozen markers out of the division's overall lead.
"Fans, friends and family members have provided a ton of support and encouragement since the start of the season," said Victoria McLenon. "Everyone associated with the team has made me excited about coming to the track. We're doing well and having fun. That makes the effort we've been putting into the car worthwhile and gives up something to shoot for at every event."

In Peterborough Speedway's most recent race program, McLenon logged another top 10 finish in a starting line-up that saw at least 23 Bone Stock teams take the green flag in the night's 20 lap main event.
"I like to have fun during our weekends at the track," said Victoria McLenon, who as a Customer Service Rep and Collectible Card Game Specialist at Comic Alley Toys. "With so many fast drivers in the division, I've had a great year and logged some solid laps week after week. Whenever you can park the racecar following the checkered flag after finishing a few spots ahead of where you started, it has been a good night. The team and I are hoping to keep the ball rolling."
Victoria McLenon and Peterborough Speedway's Battlefield Equipment Rental Bone Stocks will be back in action Saturday, July 26th in a raceday line-up that also includes the home track Jiffy Lube Super Stocks, along with the OSCAAR Modifieds and Hot Rods, plus the Outlaw Midgets. King of the Hill will be the night's intermission feature. Gates will open at 5:00, with racing at 6:00.

Teams with the GEN-3 Electric OMRS SportsMods came to the green flag with a simple goal. To be the next main event winner in the group's inaugural season. Front row starters Ethan Thompson and Rick Warnes set out to take the checkered flag in the Saturday, July 19th main event at the venue known for Making Memories for Life.
Thompson – who began his local racing career in Peterborough's Renegade Truck field – led the event's early laps until a yellow flag for a frontstretch spin slowed the pace. Thompson was ruled to have left early on the restart, forcing to swap positions with Warnes who was running 3rd at the time of the caution.
On the restart, Chad Strawn used the outside groove to take the race lead and held the spot – by the margin of a about a straightaway – for the balance of the race distance and scored his first main event win under the new SportsMod banner. Thompson rebounded to take 2nd, with Warnes, Glenn Morris and Craig Stevenson completing the top 5.

Peterborough Speedway GEN-3 Electric OMRS race notes: Chad Strawn and his father in-law Glenn Morris shared the night's preliminary round wins…After suffering mechanical issues during the pre-race practice sessions, John Baker Jr. and group newcomer Garrett Yake watched the action from the sidelines…Craig Stevenson – who turned his first career racing laps in 1981 – made his first start since 2018 in a substitute role for his son Brad.
Next on the GEN-3 Electric OMRS SportsMod schedule will be Saturday, August 2nd at Flamboro Speedway. The 2025 running of the Bill Pickford Memorial is Saturday, August 16th at Peterborough Speedway.

A potent field of 23 Trailers Plus Ontario Legend Car Series teams came to the line for a 25-lap headliner – Saturday, July 19th – at Peterborough Speedway. Adam Cuthbertson and Mitch Wright held the front row starting spots as pack took the green flag in the main event presented by Sidetracked in Muskoka and Firehouse 343.
Cuthbertson was strong early, taking the lead from the drop of the initial green flag. The driver of the No. 79 car – who had announced his retirement from the sport last fall – had the hottest runner on the circuit on his tail, as Dawson Drimmie charged into the runner-up spot and then took the race lead a couple of laps after an early race yellow flag. Reigning series champion Mitch Wright, Cuthbertson, Parker Traves and Cole McFadden joined Drimmie for a lock on the top 5 positions when the field encountered a string of cautions with yellows slowing the pace with 7, 13, 16 and 19 laps on the scoreboard.
A late race charge saw everyone fighting for position as Drimmie looked to be on his way to another checkered flag. Parker Traves got close to the race leader and started looking for a way around the driver of the No. 66 machine. Lap after lap he'd get close to Drimmie and as the field took the white flag, a hole opened up on the backstretch. That was all the room Traves would need, as his No. 08 ride stole the main event win. Drimmie, Adam Cuthbertson, Cole McFadden and rookie of the year point leader Jake Spencer-Walt completed the top 5.
Gibson Baker, Keaton Pipe, Wes Cuthbertson, Andrew McFadden, Hailey McNicol, Caleb Drimmie, Joe Sherman, Paul Pierik. Nathan Killins, John Milwain, Rob Eggleton, Matt Thompson, Mitch Wright, Mackenzie Milwain, Robbie Sikes, Nick Portt, Nathan Huffman and Joshua Milwain rounded out the finishing order.
All finishing positions are unofficial and subject to scoring review and post race inspection.
Trailers Plus Ontario Legend Car Peterborough Speedway notes: Mitch Wright, Dawson Drimmie, Adam Cuthbertson and Jake Spencer-Walt had the qualifying event wins.
Next on the schedule will be a pair of combined dates with the Great Lakes Legends Series – Saturday and Sunday, August 2nd and 3rd – at Sauble Speedway. The group returns to Peterborough Speedway Saturday, August 9th.

Trois-Rivières, le Lundi 21 juillet 2025 - Les amateurs de sport automobile ont eu droit à un avant-goût décoiffant du Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières propulsé par Chevrolet (GP3R) alors qu'une Radical SR3 XXR de la Coupe Radical Canada Emzone (CRCE), présentée par Michelin, a été mise en piste cet après-midi sur l'avenue Gilles-Villeneuve lors d'une démonstration menée par Alex Tagliani.
Triple vainqueur du GP3R en NASCAR Canada et double champion à Trois-Rivières en Formule Atlantique, Tagliani ajoute une corde à son arc en rejoignant la CRCE dès 2025 :
« Les prototypes Radical ? De vraies fusées de poche ! Ultra légers, hyper agiles et performants — parfaits pour dompter un tracé serré et sans répit comme celui du GP3R propulsé par Chevrolet. Après la F1600, la Formule Atlantique, les voitures sport et la NASCAR Canada, je suis prêt à relever un nouveau défi. Direction Trois-Rivières pour ajouter une nouvelle machine à mon palmarès… »

Bruno Spengler en Sentra : un champion DTM au départ du GP3R
Le GP3R 2025 accueillera également pour la première fois le pilote canadien Bruno Spengler, champion DTM 2012, dans le cadre de la Coupe Nissan Sentra. Véritable légende du sport automobile canadien, Spengler pilotera la voiture #007 de JD Promotion & Compétition, écurie dirigée par Jacques Deshaies.
Spengler compte à son palmarès :
- 16 victoires, 51 podiums et 18 pôles en DTM ;
- Un record de victoires sur le circuit urbain de Nüremberg ;
- Des podiums aux 24h de Daytona, aux 12h de Sebring et aux 6h de Road Atlanta ;
- Le championnat italien GT3 en 2023 ;
- Et, aujourd'hui, le titre de pilote officiel et ambassadeur de la marque Bugatti.
Ce sera une double première pour lui : une première participation au GP3R et une première expérience en voiture à traction avant.

Avec une troisième course ajoutée l'horaire, la Coupe Nissan Sentra permet au GP3R de battre son record absolu de 20 courses, le plus qu'il ait jamais été offert aux fervents au fil des 55 éditions.
Journée média et essais officiels le 6 août à ICAR
En amont de l'événement, le GP3R propulsé par Chevrolet tiendra une journée média et essais privés au Circuit ICAR de Mirabel, le mercredi 6 août 2025.
Parmi les temps forts :
- Le dévoilement des voitures de tête Chevrolet officielles du Grand Prix ;
- La présence de plusieurs figures de proue de NASCAR Canada : les ex-vainqueurs du GP3R Marc-Antoine Camirand, Andrew Ranger, L.P. Dumoulin, Alex Tagliani, Kevin Lacroix et Alex Guénette ainsi que Mathieu Kingsbury, J.F. Dumoulin, et Vittorio Ghirelli, champion EuroNASCAR 2023 qui pilotera une voiture aux couleurs de Rousseau Métal.

Le tailgate Tallarivières du vendredi prend la place des feux d'artifice du samedi
L'équipe du GP3r en a profité pour réitérer qu'elle n'organiserait pas d'activités du samedi soir au centre-ville cette année. Seule la traditionnelle soirée de lancement du jeudi 7 août - avec exposition de voitures de course, de remorques d'écuries NASCAR Canada et une séance d'autographe des pilotes sera mise sur pied par le GP3R au Parc portuaire cette année.
« Nous sommes confiants que les commerces et attraits du centre-ville de Trois-Rivières savent si bien recevoir la visite que nous préférons leur laisser toute la place, le samedi soir, explique Dominic Fugère, directeur général du GP3R présenté par Chevrolet. En revanche, le vendredi, de midi à 22h30, notre tailgate Tallarivières, tout aussi gratuit pour les visiteurs que notre journée portes ouvertes, permettra d'ajouter musique, bouffe et danse à notre bonne donse d'adrénaline! »

A hot summer night welcomed the Ontario Outlaw Super Late Model Series to Central Ontario – Saturday, July 12th – for the group's annual date at Peterborough Speedway.
With 50 laps of ground pounding action to settle the score, former Peterborough race winner Brandon Passer and Dwayne Baker paced the starting field to the green flag. As quickly as things got rolling, the pace was slowed for a yellow flag incident that saw the No. 27 machine of Roy Passer make contact with the 3rd turn wall. The driver was unhurt, but the car retired from the event after only 7 laps.
After starting 4th in the order, defending race champion JR Fitzpatrick took the lead on the restart and set off to dominate the show. With Brandon Passer, Baker, Brad Pearsall and TJ Edwards in tow, the driver of the No. 84 machine started to put backmarkers a lap down with only 10 circuits on the scoreboard. Fitzpatrick had built-up as much as a 10-car advantage before the halfway point of the headliner.
With the race running without any additional caution flags, all eyes were on the dominating performance being turned in by the reigning series champion. As he had done a year earlier, Fitzpatrick worked through slower traffic to perfection and was closing on the 6th place car as the crossed flags signaling the halfway mark were displayed.
One by one, the rest of the field watched as the leader put them a lap in arrears. By the close of business, he had put everyone but the 2nd and 3rd place runners of Brandon Passer and Dwayne Baker in his rear-view mirror. Pearsall, Edwards, Dario Caprichio, Brad Stevenson, Rob Bickle, John Baker Jr. and Roy Passer completed the running order.
Outlaw Super Late Model Series Peterborough notes: The No. 73 machine of Mike Miller didn't make the starting line-up for the feature event after being involved in a heat race incident…The starting field was bolstered by OMRS SportsMod runners Brad Stevenson and John Baker Jr.
JR Fitzpatrick picked up a pair of heat race wins, with Roy and Brandon Passer claiming the others. Next on the schedule for the Ontario Outlaw Super Late Model Series is a Saturday, July 19th date at Sauble Speedway.

CNAF Kid's Race Comes to Peterborough Speedway

Summer's arrival brings with it the next leg of Peterborough Speedway's 2025 schedule. Saturday, June 21st, the Canadian National Autism Foundation presents Kid's Race.
Kid's Race was started in 2010 as an idea to create a new platform for Autism research and awareness. It wasn't too long after speaking with – and working alongside track owners, officials, drivers, crews and fans – that a common bond was formed. Everyone associated with the event quickly realized that passion, dedication, family and a love for what they do is something that everyone shared. Peterborough Speedway track owner and promoter J.P. Josiasse says that Autism Awareness Night – Saturday, June 21st – will be an informative and educational event for everyone who comes through the gates.
"Our drivers, teams, crew members, sponsors and fans are quick to throw their support behind a worthwhile cause," Josiasse said. "Even if a member of your immediate family hasn't been affected by autism, you probably know someone who has. Whatever you can do to help the Canadian National Autism Foundation is a win-win for everyone involved,"

This weekend's race action will include the home track SwitchTire Mini Stock, Trent Lakes Complete Pluming Renegade Truck, KOD Disposal Late Model and Junior Late Model divisions, plus the year's only appearance by the Can-Am TQ Midgets. Grandstand gates open at 5:00, with racing at 6:00.
Saturday, June 28th Pepsi presents the season's 2nd Double Toonie/Fan Appreciation Night, with Bone Stock, Mini Stock, Super Stock and Late Model racing, plus the Trailers Plus Ontario Legend Car Series. Grandstand admission is $ 4.00. Gates open at 4:00, green flag at 5:00.

Durgan Win First Career Sportsman Modified Feature at Airborne Park
Plattsburgh, NY- It was a special Saturday night "Topless for Dad" event in honor of Father's Day at the Airborne Park Speedway sponsored by Hebert Lawn Care and Drapeau Sanitation, and it turned out to be extra special for one driver. Caleb Durgan, an up-and-coming wheelman from Morrsionville, NY, got to celebrate his first career win in an emotional victory lane with dad after dominating the 30-lap J&S Steel feature for the sportsman modifieds. The Mohawk Valley Vintage Dirt Modifieds were also on hand for their annual visit to "The Big A" along with the pro stocks.
Durgan and Matt Leonard brought the field to the green flag, with Durgan taking command right away. Behind the leader, Brent Warren moved to second before the caution flag flew on lap 10. A battle ensued for second after the restart between Leonard, Warren, and Vince Quenneville Jr. Meanwhile, Fire Swamp was on the move from the 10th starting spot, as was Codie Aubin from the 12th position on the grid. A restart on lap 13 saw Michael Wright move to second and Aubin to third. Durgan had to fend off one more challenge with another restart on lap 18, and pulled away from Swamp and Aubin to collect the momentous win. Swamp crossed the line second, Aubin third, Nick Heywood fourth, and Quenneville fifth. Heat winners were Cory Castell, Michael Wright, and Durgan.
Speaking of young, upstart drivers, Chazy High School student Kobe Hernandez rolled to his second win of the season in the Hoosier Racing Tire limited sportsman division. Hernandez began on the outside of row one and led from start to finish. Gary English, who has been the man to beat with three wins on the season, saw his chances dampened after he was sent off of turn one after contact with the Matthew Jordan machine. With English battling issues with his car from the accident, Hernandez drove off into the night and was never threatened. Parker Dermody placed second, Winston Forbes third, Matt Little fourth, and Alex Reif fifth. Hernandez also won the lone heat race.
The pro stocks were making their second appearance of the season, and a hometown driver made short work of the field. Plattsburgh's Zack Daniels started from the pole and cruised to a flag-to-flag victory. Several drivers made a bid to challenge Daniels, but he was just too stout. Kyle Hoard gave chase early, with Denis Gauvreau moving to the runner-up spot at the midway point. A scrum between Gauvreau and Marc LaLonde sent Gauvreau backwards as LaLonde took over the second spot. It didn't matter. No one had anything for Daniels as he drove away for the win. LaLonde, Bruno Cur, Jocelyn Roy, and Horde followed Daniels underneath the checkered flag. Heat race wins went to Daniels and Hoard.
The 9th State Cannabis Renegade feature was a wild, crash-filled affair with the points leader Tylor Taylor surviving to add his fourth checkered flag of the season to his collection. Pole sitter Tyler Irwin held the point for the early laps. An incident between Shawn Duquette and Josh Terry, which also involved Travis Stokes and Tim Wilcox, brought out the caution on lap 10. After the restart, Tylor Taylor powered past Irwin and left the rest of the field in the dust to add to his impressive win total. Irwin held on for second. Nathaniel Guay, Brad Bushey, and Roland Guay closed out the top five. Nathaniel Guay and Tylor Terry won the heats.
The Crown Vics made their return to Airborne Park on Saturday, and the question was, could anyone compete with Eric Friend? Friend out of Middlebury, VT, entered the evening a perfect 3 for 3 on the season. Richie Turner led several laps early in the feature, but eventually Friend was able to impose his will and kept his unbeaten streak intact. Turner was second best by far. Norm Morrill, Scott Richner, and Jaycee Turner also enjoyed top-five finishes. Turner won the heat race.
Kenny Tourville fought off a late charging Jp Corrow to to grab a long-awaited win in the mini stock feature. Tourville didn't win in 2024 and was thrilled to be back in victory lane. Jamie Whitney Jr. set the early pace, but Tourville made a pass on the outside of turn three to move in front and stayed there the rest of the way. Corrow did his best to reel Tourville in but ran out of time. Corrow crossed the line second, Speedy Bresette third, Chad Provost fourth, and Ryan Senecal fifth. Heat winners were Tourville, Bresette, and Corrow.
Fans were treated to a stroll down memory lane as the MVVDMS competed in five divisions. Feature winners were Scot Straight in the Mystique Division, Mike Wheeler in the Antique Division, Jack Miller in the Modified Division, Frank Hoard Jr. in the Late Model Division, and Gary Reynolds in the Sportsman Division.
Sportsmen modified regular Michael Wright eliminated a huge lead by Richie Turner to claim the 50-lap enduro win. Turner opened what seemed to be an insurmountable advantage during the first half of the event, but Wright was able to chase him down. Turner held on to the runner-up spot. Cole Boutah, Jacob Fountain, and Trevor Jaques rounded out the top five.
Airborne Park Speedway will be in action on a special night this week for "Whacky Wednesday Night," featuring the always popular Kids Race Car rides. All regular weekly divisions will be on the docket. Pit gates open at 4 p.m., Grandstands open at 5 p.m., Racing begins at 7 p.m. Admissio is $15. Kids 12 & under are free, Pit admission is $30 for members and $40 for non-members.
