SPEEDSTR - MARIO PAGE WINS LAST LAP THRILLER AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY
| Grandview Speedway, June 6th, 2010: It was a day where nothing went as planned for the SpeedSTR drivers at Grandview on Sunday. Just when the race teams had the hot set-up, track conditions changed and it was back to square one. |
| With plenty of wheel to wheel action during the heats, it was only a matter of time before the passing would start in the A Main as 17 cars took to the speedway for the 20 lap Memorial Day Madness SpeedSTR event. Just as the green waved the racing had already begun by the time the full field made it into turn 1 as the Langhorne Motorsports cars of Gary and Kyle Hieber found the outside line to their liking and were setting sail towards the front. ARDC regular Ryan Smith hopped into a SpeedSTR and was setting a blistering pace as Fred Rahmer, Jr. Brandon Rahmer, Brad Missimer, Kaitie McCardle and Don Zrinski were all contending for 6th through 10th.While these 5 were squaring off, Mario Page and Gary Huber were starting to challenge for the top spot with The Hieber Bros Chris Stockham and Doug Rose following closely behind. A yellow on lap 12 reset the field and an 8 lap shootout was soon to happen. Smith got the restart green and had the middle line working to perfection as Page was looking for the quick way around the speedway with Huber in close pursuit. Brittany Wixon now was entering the picture as she put the 15 into the top 8 and was hoping for a few more laps to continually improve, but the white flag was now waving and Smith's line shifted to the bottom which gave the high flying Page # 10 the whole top side to make his move and he did just that on his way to claiming the $800 top prize for the SpeedSTR winner. Ryan Smith settled for the runner-up spot with Gary Huber getting the final podium finish of 3rd aboard his 11H. Chris Stockham of the 600 Mod series was wheeling the Valvoline VR1 STR for the first time and was very impressive bringing home a top 5 finish. Hard luck struck Kaitie McCardle as she could not avoid a spinning competitor and suffered front end damage aboard her family owned # 11. Brad Missimer took the controls of the Bulldog Racing # 5 and ran one of the fastest laps of the day until handling problems sidelined the Grandview 358 modified regular. |
