David Salazar brings nearly a decade of wind tunnel expertise the Seasons Event & Conference Center in Portland, Maine, this coming January 19-22. While the four-day short-track racing seminar will explore suspension information, brake technology, spotting technique, driver development and marketing, it will also place a premium on explaining why aerodynamics are important on North America's short ovals. Salazar, the general manager of A2 Wind Tunnels, will discuss aerodynamics and downforce, as well as their impact on overall performance, during the seminar. He will also be available each day to address individual concerns teams may have. “I think that this is one of the really significant components of GRIP,” said Gary Crooks of Crooks Racing Inc. “Sometimes we tend to think of aerodynamics as only being part of speedway racing, but there's a lot that can be gained by teams that understand all aspects of how aero packages and downforce affect their cars, even on short tracks.” Salazar has been with AeroDyn and A2 Wind Tunnels since 2004, accumulating more than 8,000 hours of wind tunnel testing. His work has covered a variety of angles – from testing for individual top-level NASCAR teams to research and development at AeroDyn. In addition to stock cars, Salazar's testing at A2 has included the 2010 Team USA Olympic gold-medal winning bobsled, the 2009 BUB Motorcycle landspeed record at more than 367 mph and numerous landspeed records in car, motorcycle and streamliner divisions. GRIP is designed to benefit teams from all walks of short-track racing, including PASS-sanctioned Super Late Models, ACT-sanctioned Late Models, Maritime Pro Stock and Sportsman-type cars, open-wheeled Modifieds and various weekly divisions from across North America. Enrollment in the four-day seminar is limited to the first 100 people to register, and tickets are going fast.
