Linc Brown Looks to Close His 2012 Season With Another Strong Effort

To be fair, drivers in all 3 of Kawartha Speedways regular divisions are about to wrap-up their 2012 campaigns, but to open the story that way would seem far less dramatic. The 47 year-old from Colborne, Ontario has recorded some of his best results during the second half of the year and he hates to see things end. Making his return to the NAPA Auto Parts ACT Late Model division, Brown currently sits 8th in track points and with only the season finale – Friday, September 14th – remaining on the calendar, he has a chance to finish as high as 6th in the final standings. |
“I think our team really turned the corner during the 100 lapper August 17th,” said Brown. “Even though a fuel system problem forced us to drop out with less than 10 laps remaining, it was a solid run. Finishing 3rd in the feature during the double point show – after winning the qualifying heat and semi feature earlier in the night – was a real shot in the arm. I like where we are rolling into the last event of the year.” The landscape of victory lane is not unfamiliar territory for Linc Brown. The driver of the #99 Kawartha Metals/Rousseau Automobile Communications/The Wolf 101.5/Don Butt Auto Body/Mayhew Graphics/Clarke Motorsports Communications Dodge Charger by McColl Racing Enterprises booked 2 trips to the winner’s circle – combined with 8 top 5 efforts – while recording a second place finish in the 2007 championship chase. Making his first starts since 2008 in Kawartha’s headline division, Brown knew his performance wouldn’t be a case of what have you done...but instead, what have you done lately. “2008 wasn’t a terrible year, but finishing 7th in points and more than 150 points behind the leader after being 2nd the year before was very humbling,” admitted Brown. “I took a look at how we were doing and decided to take a break. My kids were having great runs with the KDKC and that satisfied my racing desire. Being around the speedway and watching the Friday night shows made me think about coming back, but until this year the timing wasn’t right. I was able to put together a good support package and we’ve had some fun this year. A couple of weeks ago, I raced a kart and had a blast. I moved a little slowly for a couple of days afterward, but it was worth every ache and pain.” While the delays caused by weather and planned breaks in Kawartha Speedway’s 2012 schedule keep drivers, team and fans away from the track, Linc Brown and his team look at things from both sides of the coin. Running every week would allow the team to maintain some momentum, but an occasional week off throughout the campaign gives the team time to perform routine maintenance without the pressure of a pending race date. “It can be easy to overlook something or make a mistake when you’re working under tight time constraints,” said Brown. “The last time we raced is August 24th, so by the time we take the green flag again September 14th, we will have had close to 3 weeks to make sure everything is ready to go and coming into the final race of the year, that’s very important.” Photo attachment: Jim Clarke – Clarke Motorsports Communications Linc Brown (#99) is hoping to turn-in another strong effort Friday, September 14th as the 2012 season concludes at Kawartha Speedway.
