Some of the province's hottest motorsports action can be found on Canada's Toughest 3rd of a Mile Paved Oval. From the year's first green flag on Victoria Day Weekend, to the final checkered of Thanksgiving's Autumn Colours Classic, Peterborough Speedway's 5 weekly classes and special guest divisions have been thrilling race fans for more than half a century.

"We heard about the type of events people want to see and then went to work to put together a schedule to meet those needs," said track owner/promoter J.P. Josiasse. "First and foremost, our concern is to give the fans who come through the grandstand gates what they want and the best value for their motorsports entertainment dollar."

Throughout the 2018 calendar, the home track Bone Stock, Mini Stock, Renegade Truck, Super Stock and Late Model teams will share the spotlight with the OSCAAR Modifieds and Midgets, Ontario Pro Challenge, Ontario Legends, Ontario Modifieds Racing Series, APC Pro Late Model, Can Am TQ Midgets and Ontario Super Late Model divisions. Saturday, August 11th, the Lucas Oil Sportsman Cup Series returns to the tight, tricky bullring on Mount Pleasant Road, west of the Liftlock City.

Josiasse and the Peterborough Speedway team hope to carry the same momentum from the track's 50th anniversary season into 2018. Last year, car counts were solid in every weekly division and with the exception of a rogue shower during the Saturday qualifying round at Autumn Colours, the entire schedule was rain-free. While the forecast is a factor once the green flag waves, the promotional team's immediate priority is putting the finishing touches on the schedule of events.

"The days and weeks leading-up to opening night of a new season are some of the busiest of the entire year, but as soon as the first spectator takes their seat to watch the action, the hard work and long hours are all worthwhile," Josiasse said. "Racers are working as hard as the track crews and with familiar faces in different places this year, it's a good thing we're having a fan appreciation autograph session on opening night."

Bullring bullet points: Visit the Peterborough Speedway booth at the 4th annual Motorama Custom Car and Motorsports Expo – March 9th, 10th & 11th – at the International Centre in Toronto to pick up a copy of the track's 2018 event schedule.
