The story about good things coming to those who wait came true Saturday, May 30th at Peterborough Speedway. After 5 years of trying, Zachary Cheng finally scored his first career main event win in the track’s hometown Battlefield Equipment Rental Bone Stock division.
Following the pre-race draw for starting spots, Cheng would be on the inside of the front row for the 20-lap headliner. From the drop of the green flag, the driver of the No. 39 machine would lead the way while the balance of the 22-car starting field battled for position behind him.

Lap after lap, the 24-year-old runner from Brooklin, Ontario continued to strengthen his lead while running consistent laps at the front of the field. Zachary Cheng – who began his Peterborough Speedway racing career in a car with duct taped numbers – was the star of the show in a race that ran caution-free through the entire distance. Everyone loves seeing a first-time winner and Cheng’s inaugural trip to the victory lane proved to be popular with fans and his fellow competitors.
After completing the latest step in his Peterborough Speedway Bone Stock division racing development, Zachary Cheng was quick to acknowledge everyone who has helped with his program. The driver thanks his sponsors Comic Alley Toys, Strawnco77, David Burns from Matco Tools and Clarke Motorsports Communications.
“The stars aligned and the Racing Gods said, “it’s your turn,” as Zachary Cheng explained in victory lane and in a social media post. “I have to thank my RunsamoK Racing teammates Shawn Solomon and Victoria McLenon. My racing friends John, Brad and Christen Lavalle, crew members Matt and Matt and everyone who has reached out after the win. Especially my beautiful girlfriend Sammy who has been by my side through the good and bad times.”
Battlefield Equipment Rental Bone Stock teams will be back in action during the Double Toonie/Fan Appreciation Night – presented by Pepsi – Saturday, June 6th at Peterborough Speedway. Spectator grandstand admission is just $ 4.00, with racing starting at 5:00.
