Hard Work Pays off for Sarah Cornett-Ching and the SCC Racing Team With Second Place Finish at Motoplex Speedway

PENTICTON, BRITISH COLUMBIA – It had been a tough couple week for Sarah Cornett-Ching after a crash in her previous race two weeks earlier left the team with plenty of work to do to repair her Snap-On Tools sponsored car before the event at Motoplex Speedway just over a week ago.  They were in the shop virtually every night getting the car back together and repairing the heavy rear end damage from a multi car incident at Agassiz Speedway on August 11th.

 

After arriving at the track, Sarah and the team began to chase some issues on the newly repaired car.  The team would miss the opening practice session, working hard on getting the car more stable.  Despite still having some issues, she was able to post the second fastest speed in practice during the next two sessions.

“I think everyone was really fighting the track today in practice.  It is a green track, and the setups that worked here in the past don’t seem to be working for anyone right now”, says Cornett-Ching.  “We will see what we can do here during qualifying and hopefully get it to drive better”.

After plenty of deliberation amongst the SCC Racing team, they made some big adjustments to the car before hitting the track for qualifying.  After dealing with a very loose car during practice, Sarah posted the third fastest speed in qualifying, but this time the car was a little tight.  Although they may have over adjusted, it did give the team confidence that they were closing in on the setup that they needed for the night.

Sarah started sixth in her heat race and quickly moved forward.  She made an outstanding pass utilizing the outside lane on lap five and cruised to a dominating victory by a margin of more then one full second. 

The 100 lap main event was up next, and would take some strategic planning with a pit stop required during the race.  Sarah started from mid-pack, Sarah knew that key would be to get up front quickly.  The top three cars broke out quickly, but pit stops for the leaders began around lap 20, changing the complexion of event.  The strategy for the SCC Racing team was to stay out as long as possible, and they did just that, making their pit stop at lap 45.  A lightning quick stop by the team was the fastest of the night by anyone, putting Sarah in contention during the second half of the race.  A caution came out right after the pit stop, and Sarah was in second place.  After battling on the outside on the restart, Sarah dropped to third place would get that second spot once the leaders started single file.  She made the pass for second with just seven laps left, and didn’t have enough remaining to chase down the leader.

“It really says a lot about the determination and heart of our team, especially my Dad, who is the driving force behind us”, says Cornett-Ching after the race.  “We will have another couple weeks to prepare for the next race, and I really think we have what it takes to win here.  I really couldn’t be happier right now with our result considering the damage we had two weeks ago”.

The next race on the schedule for Sarah will be this coming weekend back at Motoplex Speedway for a combined ARCA/West Coast Sportsman Series event.  Her 2012 season will conclude just two weeks later at Motoplex with an open Late Model event featuring some of the best Late Model racers on the West Coast.

En Formula Tour 1600 - classe Master...

 

 

 

 

Calabogie (Ontario), le 3 septembre 2012.- Me Guy Gilain, avocat du bureau montréalais De Grandpré Chait et pilote de la classe Master dans le Championnat Formula Tour 1600, disputait le week-end dernier l'avant-dernier rendez-vous de la saison, au Calabogie Motorsports Park, situé au sud-ouest d'Ottawa. Deux courses étaient à l'horaire qui, bien que contrariées par quelques ennuis mécaniques, ont permis à Guy Gilain de se rapprocher un peu plus du titre de champion 2012 avec une nouvelle victoire.

 

Lauréat des courses sur le Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve dans le cadre du Grand Prix du Canada en juin, de celles de juillet au Circuit Mont-Tremblant, puis en août au Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières, Guy Gilain abordait ce nouveau rendez-vous, sur le difficile circuit de Calabogie, avec confiance, sachant qu'en cas de nouveau gain, le titre 2012 lui serait acquis avant même les dernières courses de la saison.

 

Qualifié en pole position pour la première des deux épreuves, le Longueuillois menait lorsqu'un cylindre du moteur de sa monoplace Van Diemen s'est déconnecté, forçant le pilote à poursuivre la course avec seulement 60% de la puissance du moteur. « C'est frustrant quand on sent qu'on a la victoire à portée de main d'être ainsi ralenti par un ennui mécanique, mais je me suis accroché à tout de même terminer afin de marquer le maximum de points » confie Me Gilain. En vue de l'arrivée, l'abandon de son plus proche rival dans la course au titre, l'Ontarien Lew Mackenzie, en raison d'un bris de moteur a tout de même permis à Guy Gilain de terminer en troisième place de la classe Master, derrière Serge Lacroix et Ray Jr Courtemanche.

 

À nouveau qualifié premier, Guy Gilain abordait la seconde course avec un peu d'appréhension car, aux qualifications, il n'avait pu compléter qu'un seul tour, une grosse roche ayant perforé le radiateur de sa monoplace, entraînant une surchauffe moteur. L'équipe Britain West Motorsport avait donc installé en toute hâte un autre moteur pour cette seconde épreuve. « J'ai pris un très bon départ, au point de me retrouver en lutte avec des concurrents de la classe Pro dont les voitures sont plus légères, mais le moteur de rechange a commencé à perdre de la puissance au fil des tours. L'équipe pense qu'il s'agit d'un problème électrique mais quoi qu'il en soit, j'ai tout de même pu contrôler la situation et conserver le premier rang avec près de dix secondes d'avance sur mon plus proche poursuivant » explique Guy Gilain.

 

Guy Gilain totalise présentement six victoires et neuf podiums en dix courses disputées cette saison dans la classe Master de la série Formula Tour 1600. Il est presqu'assuré de remporter le titre de champion lors du dernier programme double, au Mont-Tremblant les 22 et 23 septembre prochains. Guy possède 41 points d'avance sur Lew Mackenzie. « Avec cette nouvelle victoire, je n'ai plus qu'à me rendre à la moitié de la première course de Tremblant pour marquer les points nécessaires et être assuré du titre » précise-t-il. Guy Gilain tient par ailleurs à féliciter l'Ontarien Nathan Block, l'un de ses coéquipiers chez Britain West Motorsport, qui a mis la main sur le titre dans la classe Pro à l'issue des courses de Calabogie.

 

Guy Gilain est avocat associé du bureau De Grandpré Chait, à Montréal. À titre de pilote, il a participé à des épreuves du Championnat du Québec de Formule 1600 dans les années 1990, avant d’effectuer un retour à la compétition automobile il y a trois ans, en Coupe Toyota. Il a débuté dans le championnat Formula Tour 1600 en 2010, décrochant deux victoires et montant quatre autres fois sur le podium de la classe Master. L'an dernier, il a terminé la saison vice-champion de la classe Master.

 

Il dispute le championnat 2012 grâce à l’implication de Gersol, De Grandpré Chait Avocats, Pole-Position Magazine, A.C. Construction, Construction Tigre, LML Électrique, Provencher-Roy Architectes, Promix, Bau-Val, Autocam et Guimond-Lavallée Comptables.

Des podiums pour Luc Lesage et Jocelyn Fecteau pour conclure la saison 2012 !

 

Calabogie (Ontario), le 3 septembre 2012.- L'équipe Media Racing Team disputait cette fin de semaine le dernier programme double 2012 du Championnat canadien Touring Car, sur le circuit de Calabogie, au sud-ouest d'Ottawa. Un rendez-vous qui a été marqué par le succès pour les deux pilotes puisque tant Luc Lesage que Jocelyn Fecteau ont décroché une place sur le podium.

 

 

Présentée sur le long circuit routier de 5,5 km du Calabogie Motorsport Park, cette ultime étape 2012 a permis aux deux pilotes et à toute l'équipe Media Racing Team de terminer la saison sur une note positive. « Ce fut une saison faite de hauts et de bas mais Calabogie est à ranger dans la colonne des bons moments avec nos podiums lors de la première des deux courses » indique Jocelyn Fecteau.

 

Sur un circuit où il n'avait plus roulé depuis 2009, Jocelyn Fecteau n'a pas mis de temps à entrer dans le bon rythme, amenant sa Scion tC à la troisième place de la classe Touring sur la grille de départ. « Après ce qui était arrivé au Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve deux semaines plus tôt, le simple fait d'avoir pu remettre la voiture en état de prendre le départ est un petit miracle. je souhaitais donc simplement finir les deux courses mais dès les premiers tours de piste, j'étais très à l'aise sur cette magnifique piste et je suis hissé parmi les prétendants à la victoire » explique le pilote de Mont-St-Grégoire.

 

Sur une piste froide et glissante par endroits, Jocelyn Fecteau est parvenu à améliorer sa position au départ d'un rang en course, pour croiser le fil d'arrivée deuxième. Lors de la deuxième course, Fecteau a connu quelques frayeurs : « ça a bien failli s'arrêter au premier virage, avec des voitures de Super Touring en-travers. J'ai été heurté par la voiture Super Touring de l'Ontarien Attrell, mais j'ai pu récupérer l'auto et même trouver "un trou" pour me faufiler jusqu'en tête des voitures Touring ! J'ai gardé la commande durant les deux premiers tours mais Michel Sallenbach et Damon Sharpe, qui se battaient pour le titre en arrière de moi, ont réussi à me passer à un moment donné » confie Jocelyn, dont la voiture était réglée pour des conditions de piste plus froide, de sorte que les derniers tours sur une piste ayant plus d'adhérence furent difficiles. « Je n'ai pas voulu prendre trop de risques dans le trafic des voitures de classe B-Spec qu'on rattrapait, Alain Lauzière qui m'a ravi la troisième place est très expérimenté et il a profité mieux que moi du trafic » explique Jocelyn qui termine quatrième et se retrouve ainsi quatrième au classement final du championnat 2012 de la classe Touring.

 

Pour son coéquipier Luc Lesage, la première épreuve a été remarquable. Après avoir du changer de voiture après les qualifications, le pilote de Trois-Rivières mena à la deuxième place la voiture de Super Touring louée à l'équipe ontarienne 8-Legs Racing. Une superbe prestation pour un pilote qui avait découvert le circuit de Calabogie moins de 48 heures plus tôt !

 

Lors de la seconde course, Lesage s'est battu pour le premier rang durant les premiers kilomètres avec le futur vainqueur (et champion Super Touring 2012), l'Ontarien Sasha Anis, avant d'être victime d'un bris dans la roue avant-droite, le forçant à abandonner. « Ce fut une saison difficile avec le développement de la Scion tC en classe Super Touring. Heureusement, il y a eu des moments de grande satisfaction comme ce podium à Calabogie » déclare Lesage.

 

Jocelyn Fecteau analyse la saison 2012 de l'équipe Media Racing Team : « ce fut une bonne saison malgré tout. Notre équipe est jeune mais ce sont de bonnes personnes qui ont su rester unies quand on devait régler des soucis mécaniques. Nous avons de très beaux projets pour la saison 2013, notamment l'engagement d'une Scion FR-S Super Touring qui est déjà dans nos locaux et sera pilotée par Luc Lesage. Nous serons de retour en Championnat canadien Touring Car avec de nouvelles ambitions » conclut-il.

 

L'équipe Media Racing Team disputait cette saison le Championnat canadien Touring Car dans deux catégories, avec Luc Lesage en classe Super Touring et avec Jocelyn Fecteau en classe Touring. L'équipe remercie tous ses supporters et commanditaires et leur donne rendez-vous en 2013 !

Isabelle Tremblay de retour en action; Martin Roy poursuit son objectif de recrue de l'année

Montréal (Québec), le 3 septembre 2012.- Isabelle Tremblay sera en piste ce samedi à Barrie en Ontario, la pilote de St-Jérôme prendra part à la dixième course de la saison de la série NASCAR Canadian Tire aux commandes de sa Dodge No.07 Frank Lyman Design. Il s'agit de la cinquième participation d'Isabelle en 2012 avec l'équipe de Martin Roy. Quant à ce dernier, il disputera cette course sur sa Dodge #90 Veloce/Gamache Truck Centre/Batteries Expert et avec l'ambition de conserver le premier rang au championnat des recrues.

 

 

 

 

 

Vice-championne recrue en NASCAR Canadian Tire en 2011 et seule pilote féminine inscrite en 2012, Isabelle Tremblay entend faire briller les couleurs de Frank Lyman Design lors de cette épreuve, la seule sur ovale à laquelle elle prend part en 2012 dans la très disputée série canadienne de NASCAR : « L'ovale de Barrie en Ontario fait un tiers de mille, c'est une très courte piste que certains comparent parfois à Bristol, la fameuse piste NASCAR du Tennessee. C'est un défi que de piloter sur une petite piste comme celle-là, je pense donc que ça peut être difficile de s'en sortir sans égratignure sur la carrosserie, parce que d'habitude ça brasse fort là-bas » confie Isabelle, qui ajoute : « L'an dernier, j'ai terminé cette course au onzième rang, alors j'ai bien hâte d'y retourner. Ça va être une manière de voir où j'en suis avec mon pilotage sur ovale puisque ce sera ma première sortie cette année sur une piste de ce type, autant en pratique qu'en qualification. Je vais là-bas avec l'objectif de ressortir de cette course en ayant acquis une expérience positive ».

 

Ce sera la cinquième présence en NASCAR Canadian Tire pour la pilote de St-Jérôme, qui  a récolté un "Top 10" au Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières le mois dernier. Cette course à Barrie s'inscrit dans le cadre limité d'épreuves de NASCAR auxquelles participe Isabelle Tremblay cette année, en prévision d'un programme plus étoffé en 2013. « Martin Roy est vraiment fier et heureux de pouvoir mettre les deux voitures sur la piste cette fin de semaine. Nous aurons une équipe agrandie à Barrie car nous sommes en train de mettre plusieurs choses en place pour la saison 2013, qui sera haute en surprises » conclue Isabelle.

 

                       

 

 

Pour Martin Roy, propriétaire de l'équipe et pilote de la Dodge #90 Veloce/Gamache Truck Centre/Batteries Expert, ce rendez-vous à Barrie est l'occasion d'augmenter son avance au premier rang du championnat des recrues. Le pilote de Napierville se dit gonflé à bloc avant ce rendez-vous, lui qui a prouvé lors des courses dans l'Ouest plus tôt dans l'été être capable de se hisser dans le "Top 6" sur des pistes qu'il découvrait totalement.

 

L'équipe de Martin Roy dispute cette saison les douze courses de la série NASCAR Canadian Tire avec Martin Roy, qui vise le titre des pilotes recrues. La seconde voiture de l'équipe est utilisée par Isabelle Tremblay lors de cinq épreuves. Les pilotes de la série NASCAR Canadian Tire seront en action samedi en journée, pour les essais libres puis la qualification. La course sera disputée en soirée.

JACQUES DESHAIES REPRÉSENTERA KIA CANADA AU TARGA NEWFOUNDLAND

Trois-Rivières, le 30 août 2012 – Pour la deuxième année consécutive, KIA Canada fait confiance à Jacques Deshaies pour le représenter lors du TARGA Newfoundland, rallye d’envergure unique en Amérique du Nord. Jacques Deshaies et le copilote, Marc Bouchard, seront à bord de la KIA Forte Koup SX 2010 au design « Je m’engage » de l’organisme MADD Canada - Les mères contre l’alcool au volant - pour la promotion de la sécurité et de la sobriété au volant à l’échelle nationale.

 

 

Seulement trois événements de ce type existent à travers le monde : le TARGA Nouvelle-Zélande, TARGA Tasmanie et celui de Terre-Neuve. Le rallye routier se déroule à travers les villes de la province, commence et se termine à St-John et regroupe près de 75 000 spectateurs venus de tous horizons. Les deux journalistes automobiles formeront l’équipe de « conducteurs désignés » de KIA et feront valoir l’importance de la mission de MADD Canada, soit « mettre fin à la conduite avec facultés affaiblies ».

 

« En tant que chroniqueurs et journalistes automobiles nous sommes fiers de représenter MADD Canada. Nous parlons toute l’année de l’importance de l’abstinence et d’une conduite responsable lorsqu’on est derrière le volant. C’est un bel exemple à donner aux jeunes qui sont eux-mêmes friands de sport automobile. D’ailleurs, pour être en mesure de respecter les conditions, les organisateurs de l’événement nous obligent tous les matins à se soumettre à l’ivressomètre avant de monter à bord de nos voitures. Si le pilote et/ou le copilote ne sont pas dans les normes, ils sont disqualifiés pour la journée », mentionne le propriétaire de l’équipe de course DM Compétition.

 

La course se déroule sur sept jours (2 200 km). Le parcours comprend un jour d’inspection technique (cours de RCR/conférence/formation), un prologue (essais routiers) et cinq jours de compétition ponctués d’étapes (zones de 300/400 km à effectuer hors compétition entre les étapes).

 

« C’est une course contre la montre. Contrairement à un rallye traditionnel que nous pouvons voir en Europe, le TARGA est formé de plusieurs étapes quotidiennes pouvant aller jusqu’à neuf étapes par jour à franchir. Entre chacune des étapes, nous devons poursuivre le trajet avec la voiture de compétition (identifiée au TARGA Newfoundland) et rouler sur les routes en se mélangeant à la circulation traditionnelle. C’est vraiment une fête pour les habitants des villes et villages des étapes », explique Jacques Deshaies.

 

Deux principales catégories de voitures prendront part à l’événement : Modern et Open. Les pilotes devront faire preuve d’endurance, d’attention continue puisque les sorties de route sont fréquentes dues notamment aux heures de sommeil restreintes au minimum. De plus, peu de pilotes sont aptes à respecter les temps impartis par la série pour chacune des étapes. Ces intervalles doivent être impérativement comptabilisés dans les temps afin de se qualifier dans le peloton de compétition. Pour sa première participation à l’événement (2011 – catégorie Modern), Jacques Deshaies avait réussi à maintenir la constance dans la technique de pilotage et franchir la ligne d’arrivée en qualifiant l’équipe.

 

« Non seulement nous avons un barème de vitesse à respecter tout au long de l’épreuve, mais également une limite de temps pour chaque étape. Environ 25% des pilotes réussissent à obtenir cette norme pendant les cinq jours de compétition », explique le pilote.

His 2012 Kawartha Speedway Performance Gives Howie Plenty to 'Crowe' About.

Sometimes, things just come together.  A change you make in your racing program works and makes all the difference in how your team performs.  That slight adjustment can turn a top 10 player into a raceday winner.  At the end of the 2011 campaign, Alderville First Nation’s Howie Crowe – a veteran runner in Kawartha Speedway’s Thunder Car division – decided it was time to do something different. In the past, he’d used a variety of cars his team had at their disposal, but prior to the start of the new season, he acquired the piece Ken Donaldson Jr. had steered to the previous year’s track championship.  It was a move that paid an immediate dividend.

 

“There was nothing wrong with what I had done up until now,” said Crowe after Kawartha’s most recent event.  “I finished 9th in points in 2007, but missed the top 10 a year later.  A 7th during 2009 was followed by 4th in 2010 and 6th last year.  Our team also won the Dedicated Pit Crew Award in 2011, but there was something in the back of my mind that told me I could still do more.  I think I just got tired of looking at the overall standings on the web-site and seeing a zero next to my name in the column where it showed career wins.”

 

Crowe made a change to that statistic Friday, July 6th when he parked his #28 Crowe Brothers Roofing/Trails End/Larry Crowe Sr. Chevrolet Monte Carlo in the winner’s circle during Kawartha Speedway’s 3rd event of the 2012 season.  Since then, he has added a regular string of qualifying round wins to his resume and enters the final night of the season second in Thunder Car points, just 21 markers out of the top spot.

 

“It’s a good position to be in, but I don’t know if our team has anything for the #53,” said Crowe.  “There’s no disputing the year Matt and his bunch have had.  He has a pair of main event wins and it seems wherever I run, he’s either right on my back bumper or I’m on his.  The final point positions will be determined by good luck for one driver and bad luck for the other. No matter what happens or where I finish in the eventual rundown, I can’t help but be happy with the way our car has performed since the first green flag of the year.”

 

The Thunder Car point battle is the tightest of all the regular divisions at the 3/8th mile oval, but positions could change through the NAPA Auto Parts ACT Late Model and Hasiuk Trailer and Container Rental Mini Stock standings on Kawartha Speedway’s last night of the year as well.

 

Kawartha klips:  The final regular event of the 2012 season – Friday, September 7th – will be a full night of action at the Fraserville 3/8th miler.  In addition to the Hasiuk Trailer and Container Rental Mini Stocks, Thunder Cars and the NAPA Auto Parts ACT Late Models, the show will also include the annual 75 lap Don Biederman Memorial for the OSCAAR Super Late Models, the first Kawartha appearance by the OSCAAR Modifieds and the 4th run for the Ontario Legends Series.  Gates will open at 3:00; with racing starting at 6:00...The NASCAR Canadian Tire Series will crown this year’s champion at the 250 lap season finale Saturday, September 22nd.  For full schedule details and the latest track news, see www.kawarthaspeedway.com.

·         With Three Races To Go; Down The Stretch They Come

 

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Sept. 3, 2012) – No one is happier than D.J. Kennington.

 

In the Wahta Springs 300 on Saturday, Sept. 8 at Barrie (Ont.) Speedway the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 takes to an oval track for the first time since July 25. And Kennington is happy not only because he won that evening in Saskatoon, Sask., but also for the fact that he has emerged victorious in each of the four races on ovals this season.

 

The 2012 season concludes with three straight circle-track events beginning with the Barrie contest and culminating on Sept. 22 in the Pinty’s 250 presented by Dodge at Kawartha Speedway near Peterborough, Ont.

 

“We’ve fared pretty well on the ovals this year and have been able to build a points lead,” said Kennington. “I don’t take anything for granted, though.”

 

Out of St. Thomas, Ont., Kennington leads the championship point standings by 33 points over Andrew Ranger. J.R. Fitzpatrick sits 35 points back while defending series champion Scott Steckly lurks 42 points away. So, there are plenty ready to pounce should Kennington falter.

 

Coming close only to have the prize snatched away nearly was made an art form by Kennington in years past, but those demons were erased – hopefully for good from his point of view – in 2010 when he claimed the Canadian Tire Series title.

 

“Coming close was never good enough, but it’s absolutely not an option now,” said Kennington, pilot of the No. 17 Castrol Edge/Mahindra Tractors Dodge. “We’re going to make sure we have everything covered, but try not to be too (crazy) with it.”

 

The Barrie event can be a wild card, for sure. It’s close quarters racing at its best on the tight .333-mile tri-oval.

 

“Racing at Barrie can get pretty physical,” said Kennington, a three-time Barrie winner. “Just like a lot of short tracks it’s all about track position and survival. You have to keep your emotions in check because people are hitting you from every angle. There’s lots of stuff going on and you have to keep your mind on the job.”

 

A year ago, Kennington finished seventh while Mark Dilley claimed a hometown victory in Barrie.

FAST FACTS

The Race: This is the 10th event of the 2012 season for the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 and the fifth of seven oval-track events on the schedule. This is the series’ eighth visit to Barrie.

 

The Procedure: The starting field is 24 cars, including provisionals. The first 21 cars will qualify through two-lap time trials while the remaining three spots will be awarded through the provisional process. The race will be 300 laps covering 99.99 miles.

 

The Track: Barrie Speedway opened in 1965 and has had substantial improvements made since 1999. At that time, the track was widened and lengthened from a .25-mile oval to its current unique .333-mile tri-oval configuration. The tri-oval and pit road are situated on the backstretch.

 

The Records: The one-lap qualifying record for the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series at Barrie is 13.903 seconds (86.226 mph) set by Don Thomson Jr. on June 28, 2008. The 300-lap race record is held by D.J. Kennington at 1 hour, 40 minutes, 8 seconds established on Sept. 11, 2010 for an average speed of 59.860 mph.

 

The History: Barrie Speedway has hosted more NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 events than any other track. Kennington leads all drivers with three wins including both visits in 2007 – the series’ inaugural season. Last year, Mark Dilley won a caution-filled event with Jason Hathaway in second and Kerry Micks in third.

 

BARRIE RACE NOTES

Dodge Dominant: Dodge has won six of the seven previous Barrie Speedway events with D.J. Kennington and Scott Steckly accounting for five of those. The only non-Dodge winner was the Chevrolet of Don Thomson Jr. in Sept. 2009.

 

Leading The Way: While winning two times in Barrie, Scott Steckly has led a series-best 658 laps at the cozy .333-mile tri-oval. Thomson has been out front for 409 laps and Kennington has set the pace for 323 circuits.

 

Long Haul: The 300-lap Wahta Springs-sponsored event in Barrie is one of three races scheduled for that many laps. The Canadian Tire Series went 300 laps in July at Motoplex Speedway in Vernon, B.C., and will again at Riverside International Speedway in Antigonish, N.S. on Sept. 15.

 

Home Tracks Update: Dwayne Baker leads the Wahta Springs Limited Late Model division by 99 points over defending track champion Ron Quesnelle. In the Canestoga Sprayers and Asphalt Repair Thunder Cars Rick Walt leads Leonard Johnston by 75 points. Charlie Smith leads Adam Misener in the St. Onge Pure Stocks division.

 

LAST TIME OUT: MONTREAL

Quick Out Of The Box: Three drivers making their NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 debut at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve ended up with top-10 finishes within the 34-car field. The performances of Timmy Hill, who finished sixth, and Austin Dillon in seventh place weren’t terribly surprising considering both are NASCAR Nationwide Series regulars. However, the ninth-place showing by Xavier Coupal was noticeable. Coupal competes in the Quebec Sportsman Series on a regular basis.

 

Pole Position Success: J.R. Fitzpatrick won from the pole position at Montreal. It’s the second time this season that the polesitter drover to Victory Lane with D.J. Kennington accomplishing the feat on June 23 at Delaware (Ont.) Speedway.

 

Three And Three: Despite losing to Fitzpatrick for the second time on his home turf, Andrew Ranger still continued torrid Montreal pace. In six outings, Ranger has three wins and three second-place finishes.

 

Figure Eight: With a 14th-place finish in the NAPA AUTOPRO 100 Ron Beauchamp Jr. had his streak of four straight eighth-place finishes snapped that dated back to the Vernon, B.C., event in July.

 

NEXT TIME OUT: ANTIGONISH

The NASCAR Canadian Tire Series makes its annual pilgrimage to the Canadian Maritimes to tackle the high-banked turns of Riverside International Speedway in Antigonish, N.S. Riverside is a .333-mile scale version of the legendary Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway. Last season, Scott Steckly picked up his third win of the season en route to his second series championship.

GEARY, New Brunswick – Joey Doiron of Berwick, Maine, finished fifth in his first career start in the Auto Value 250 at Speedway 660 in Geary, New Brunswick, on Sunday, September 2. The annual end-of-summer Super Late Model open competition on the .333-mile oval attracted a handful of PASS North Series regulars as well as a number of Maritime-based Parts For Trucks Pro Stock Tour competitors. Doiron won his heat race and qualified fourth in the 28-car field after being among the fastest cars in practice. He led in the early going, recovered from two small mechanical issues and held on to finish fifth after challenging eventual winner Cassius Clark for the lead late in the event.

JOEY, HOW WAS YOUR DAY?

It was pretty good. We were one of the best cars all weekend, but just not the best car at the time we needed to be. We started fifth in the heat race, and we won it going away. I knew we were good at that point, but I just wasn't sure how good we were going to be compared to everyone else. Then at the start of the race, John Fleming and I walked away from the field.

Last year at this time, we would have been ecstatic with a Top-5 in a race like this, but everybody's pretty disappointed. We had the best car hands-down all weekend and to not get more out of that is disappointing.

WHAT HAPPENED TO THE CAR?

(After a Lap 60 caution) we went green, and all of a sudden the thing wouldn't turn. Every single corner, I thought I was going to take down the dirt bank. We came in and found out we had the toe in knocked in an inch. Luckily we were able to fix that and get the car back, but we lost a lot of track position. The car was definitely as good as it was before, but I had to be really careful coming back up through. Those guys use a lot of race track.

By the last 50 laps or so, every lap I was inching closer (to the leader). I finally got a caution with 40 to go. He was definitely getting tight, and at that time, I thought I was going to be able to drive by him when the green came out. But I got jacked up from behind on the restart, lost track position, and drove into Turn 1 and the car just bottomed out. I'd go in the corner and it would ride on the frame. We just hung on to get what we could.

We took a quick look. It was something in the right front – a spring or a shock.

Continued Rain Forces Postponement of DuQuoin Event

Monday, September 3, 2012

 

 (DUQUOIN, Ill.) - Continued rain in southern Illinois, a remnant of Hurricane Isaac's progression through the Midwestern United States, has forced ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards officials to postpone today's Southern Illinois 100 presented by Federated Car Care at the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds.

 

Though light, the system circling the region has been consistent enough to leave the mile-long dirt track and surrounding fairgrounds unsuitable not only for racing, but also for the related activity of race teams, officials, emergency vehicles, fans, and more. Seven inches of precipitation have fallen over the area in the past three days.

 

Officials had expected dry conditions Monday and made the preemptive decision to push the day's schedule back three hours to allow the track to dry, but the rain continued.

 

The race has been rescheduled for Sunday, October 14.

 

The ARCA Racing Series will travel to the Kentuckiana Ford Dealers Fall Classic presented by Federated Car Care at Indiana's Salem Speedway on Saturday, September 15.

 

Practice for the year's second race at Salem will take place over two sessions, from 12:30-1:15 p.m. and 1:45-2:30 p.m. Menards Pole Qualifying presented by Ansell is scheduled for 4 p.m., and a driver autograph session will be open to all fans from 4:45-5:15 p.m. The 200-lap, 111-mile race will start at 7:15 p.m.

 

ARCARacing.com will feature live timing and scoring coverage throughout the day, and ARCA Racing Network hosts Charlie Krall and Tim Clagg will deliver a live audio call for the race on the site.
