WEST HAVEN, Vt. – Wayne Stearns used a strong racecar and a bit of patience to earn his first career NASCAR Whelen All-American Series victory at the Dirt Track at Devil's Bowl Speedway on Sunday, September 11. The Bradford, Vt., veteran earned his win in the "Vince Quenneville Sr. Memorial" on Interstate All Battery Center of Rutland Night. Matt Mosher, Jason Porter, and Brett Wood also went to the winner's circle during the event.

Persistence paid off for Stearns as he stalked the leaders for most of the 38-lap special event for the Central Vermont Motorcycles Sportsman Modified division. Louie Cadwell and Lenny Pillsbury ran 1-2 for the first 15 laps before Pillsbury dropped out of the race, moving Stearns into second. He chased Cadwell for the next 17 circuits before pouncing on Cadwell at lap 33 to take command. A former champion at the Bear Ridge, Legion, and Canaan Fair Speedways, Stearns drove away as the laps clicked off for the win.

Tim LaDuc put on a show as he ran through the field after a lap-15 spin for the runner-up finish. Cadwell held on to third for his best Devil's Bowl finish, followed by Allan Hammond and Justin Comes. Point leader Bobby Hackel finished sixth ahead of Kenny Tremont Jr., Vince Quenneville Jr., Billy Lussier, and Joey Scarborough.

Matt Mosher of Queensbury, N.Y., won the 25-lap feature for the Rosen & Berger Auto Recyclers Renegade division with crosstown neighbor Curtis Condon in second. Billy Duprey, who had won all six of his previous starts during the season, finished third after contact on the last lap with Josh Bussino. R.J. Germain, a regular competitor on the Asphalt Track at Devil's Bowl, finished fourth in his first-ever dirt race, with Larry Bristol fifth.

Jason Porter of Freeport, Maine, finally saw his weekly 520-mile round trip to Devil's Bowl Speedway pay off with his first career win in the 25-lap Portland Glass Mini Stock feature. It was a weekend sweep for Porter, who also grabbed his first-ever win at Bear Ridge Speedway the night before. Wayland Childs finished second and reclaimed the point lead as previous leader Mike Ryan crashed out. Derrick Counter finished third with Sean Lantas fourth. Andrew FitzGerald came from 18^th at the start to finish fifth in his first career start on dirt.

Brett Wood of Georgia, Vt., won a first-of-its-kind Enduro that saw drivers running on both the clay and paved surfaces at the same time. Many drivers alternated between the two tracks during the non-stop 50-lapper, but Wood and runner-up Eric Messier ran the whole race on the dirt. Cory Gray, who ran exclusively on pavement, finished third. Zach Wood was fourth, the last car on the lead lap. Jeff Murray finished fifth, two laps down.

Racing continues at the Dirt Track at Devil's Bowl Speedway on Sunday, September 18 at 5:00 p.m., with the rescheduled 50^th Season "Tribute Series" event honoring inaugural track champion Mert "Socks" Hulbert. The Sportsman Modified division will race 50 laps, while the Renegades and Mini Stocks are in action. The Mohawk Valley Vintage Dirt Modifieds will join the card and the new Catamount Mini Sprints club will run its first-ever exhibition event. Special general admission is $15.00 for adults, $13.00 for seniors (62+), $5.00 for teens (13-17), and free for kids age 12 and under. Gates open at 3:00 p.m., and racing begins at 5:00 p.m.

Masterson, McKiernan, Messier take season titles

WEST HAVEN, Vt. – Jason Durgan and Vince Quenneville Jr. put on the most dramatic stock car show of the year at Devil's Bowl Speedway on Sunday, September 11. The two veteran drivers were the stars of the half-mile Asphalt Track during the Rutland County facility's 50^th season of racing and needed a tiebreaker to determine the track champion at the Vermont 200 Weekend. Durgan, of Morrisonville, N.Y., became a first-time Devil's Bowl titleholder in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series and will share the championship stage this winter with Josh Masterson, Jim McKiernan, and rookie Eric Messier.

Durgan and Quenneville entered the two-day Asphalt Track finale tied in point standings, but Morrisonville, N.Y., racer Durgan pulled ahead by two points after a 50-lap race on Saturday afternoon. In Sunday's "Leon Gonyo Memorial" 50-lapper, defending champion Quenneville, of Brandon, Vt., did all he could by winning the race – his fourth score of the year – as Durgan's car struggled in traffic.

Durgan, however, caught some lucky breaks and benefitted from a late-race throttle linkage failure on the car of Saturday race winner Ron Proctor. With nine laps left he found his No. 17 Valley View Firewood/Taylor Rental car in second place behind Quenneville and rode there until the end of the race to create a mathematical tie in the point standings. Durgan got the tiebreaker based on total victories for the season and his five wins gave him the championship, sparking a raucous "Durga-Mania" celebration in victory lane.

Billy Lussier finished third in the race to complete his breakout season. Jackie Brown Jr. finished fourth with Jamy Begor fifth. The top 10 was completed, in order, by Joey Roberts, Travis Bruno, Codie Aubin, Chad White, and Rookie of the Year Chuck Bradford.

In the Central Vermont Motorcycles Late Model division, American-Canadian Tour regular Bobby Therrien of Hinesburg, Vt., invaded Devil's Bowl to win the 100-lap finale, doing so only after an exciting late battle for the lead with Josh Masterson. Championship contender Robert Bryant Jr. looked like a potential winner as he led lead laps in the first half of the race, but a broken rear axle took him out of the running at lap 41.

When Bryant exited the race, Therrien inherited the lead and Masterson turned the wick up. The two traded paint on several occasions and were challenged at various points by veterans Chris Bergeron, Jamie Aube, and Steve Miller. Therrien finally cleared out to the lead with less than 15 laps left and cruised to the win as Bristol, Vt., racer Masterson finished second to clinch the championship, becoming the first multi-time Late Model champion in the seven-year history of the Asphalt Track at Devil's Bowl Speedway.

Aube finished third in the race, followed by Bergeron and Miller. Luke Hinkley was sixth ahead of Dallas Trombley, Rich Lowrey Jr., first-time Late Model racer Dylan Payea, and early leader Seth Bridge.

Former Thunder Road Speedbowl champion Jason Woodard of Waterbury Center, Vt., took a surprise trip to victory lane in the 50-lap feature for the Rosen & Berger Auto Recyclers Renegade division, winning in his first-ever race at Devil's Bowl. Jim McKiernan of Moriah Center, N.Y., gave Woodard a run for his money but settled for the runner-up finish, one spot ahead of Scott FitzGerald; that one on-track position was all that McKiernan needed, as he edged FitzGerald by just two points for the championship.

Fourteen year-old rookie Alexis Aiken earned her best Devil's Bowl finish in fourth with Matt Monaghan fifth; Monaghan led more than half of the race before fading late.

Brad Bertrand of Ferrisburgh, Vt., won the 25-lap finale for the Portland Glass Mini Stock division to take his third victory of the year, but it was Eric "Mongo" Messier of Hinesburg, Vt., who will hoist the big hardware. Messier clinched both the championship and the Rookie of the Year titles with his runner-up finish. Brett Wood finished third in the race ahead of Garrett Given and Dale O'Neil.

Devil's Bowl Speedway's Asphalt Track season is now complete, and the focus shifts to the 3/10-mile Dirt Track with events on September 18, September 25, andOctober 1.

AIRBORNE RACE REPORT 2016-09-17 & 2016-09-18

PLATTSBURGH- The final point counting weekend is upon us at Airborne Park Speedway. The NASCAR Whelen All-American Series point standings presented by Fidelis Care will be decided on Sunday.

Saturday's racing card will include the Ernie's Discount Tools Sportsman Modifieds, Jeffords Steel Renegades and Busch Beer Mini Mods. The highlight of Saturday's card will be the Leon Gonyo Memorial 44 lap event for the Sportsman Modifieds. Gonyo Racing has added bonus money to the final race purse. A pair of 20 lap features are scheduled for the Renegade division and a regular distance event for the Mini Mods.

Post time on Saturday is at 4 p.m. with gates opening at 1 p.m. Admission prices are $12 for adults, $3 for kids ages 6 to 12 and $25 for a family of two adults and two kids.

Championship Sunday is slated to commence at 2 p.m. Sportsman Modified, Renegade and Mini Mod point champions will be crowned at the end of the event. The Renegades will close out the season with a 50 lap event, while the Sportsman Modifieds and Mini Mods will run regular distance events.

Admission prices for Sunday will be $12 for adults, $3 for kids ages 6 to 12 and $25 for a family of two adults and two children.

Latulippe signe la 100^e victoire de la Série

C'est ce vendredi 9 septembre qu'a eu lieu la 9^e et avant-dernière épreuve de la Série Sportsman Qc Lucas Oil, un programme commandité par Team Blanchet 7.

Pour ce programme, 18 voitures étaient en piste pour deux fois 50 tours sans inversion des pilotes lors du 2^e segment.

C'est avec la même discipline que lors du dernier programme à l'Autodrome Montmagny que les pilotes se sont présentés en piste, et ce dès les qualifications.

Lors des séances de pratique, le pilote de la voiture #84 Martin Latulippe a battu le record de piste de 13,74 qui avait été établi par le #67 Dominic Jacques en enregistrant un temps de 13,547.

Le #41 Samuel Charland qui a dû travailler la mécanique de sa voiture avant les qualifications a remporté la première séance. Les deux autres séances ont été remportées par le #33 Philippe Poulin commandité par Beauce Technologie et par le #22 Louis-Philippe Labrecque de Saint-Damien.

Brillante victoire de Latulippe

Lors du 1^er segment de 50 tours, le #41 Samuel Charland semblait intouchable jusqu'à ce qu'un accident de course survienne entre le #22 Louis-Philippe Labrecque et le #17 Jimmy Nadeau. La voiture de Labrecque a alors littéralement monté au mur se retrouvant à l'envers sur la piste. Sortant prioritairement le pilote de cette fâcheuse situation et désirant s'assurer de sa sécurité, toute l'équipe d'officiels de la piste ainsi que de la Série Sportsman se sont affairée autour de la voiture. Fort heureusement, le pilote s'en est sortie avec des blessures mineures. Une fuite d'essence importante a contraint la Série à laisser les pilotes sur le drapeau rouge pendant plus d'une vingtaine de minutes.

À la relance, le #84 Martin Latulippe commandité par Frameco a pris les devants non pas sans une belle lutte avec Charland qui nous a offert une superbe performance de pilotage se montrant patient et focusé.

Les pilotes ont pu mécaniser leurs voitures en attendant le 2^e segment de 50 tours et sont repartis dans les positions obtenues lors du premier segment.

Partant sur la première ligne, le pilote de Vallée-Jonction #84 Martin Latulippe s'est rapidement installé en première position filant à toute allure avec une voiture littéralement soudée à la piste. Latulippe signe ainsi sa 2^e victoire en autant de présence avec la Série Sportsman Qc en 2016. Une victoire qui n'est pas surprenante sachant tout le talent de pilotage dont il sait faire preuve, l'équipe expérimentée qui se charge de sa voiture ainsi que la qualité de sa construction neuve.

Charland commandité par Charest International a su conserver la 2^e position ayant comme seule menace le #67 Dominic Jacques, pilote particulièrement performant sur ce tracé. Avec cette 2^e position, le #41 Samuel Charland signe ainsi son 3^e podium de la saison. Cette performance lui vaut le prix de la Performance de la semaine Métalico remis par Réjean et Mario Pichette.

La 3^e position revient au #67 Dominic Jacques. À bord de sa voiture aux couleurs de Boulevard Toyota, Lexus, Scion, le pilote de Vallée-Jonction avait réalisé les deuxièmes meilleurs temps des deux pratiques. Partant de la 8^e position en début de programme, Jacques a su remonter et protéger sa position par la suite pour lui permettre de monter pour la 5^e fois sur le podium cette saison.

Le #25 Pier-Luc Labbé, commandité par Société Louis Jacques, a connu une excellente course terminant en 4^e position. Le top 5 de ce programme se complète par le #77 Mickael Isabelle qui une fois de plus nous a démontré qu'il avait tout le talent pour rouler parmi les meneurs.

Une mention spéciale au #17 Jimmy Nadeau commandité par Lucas Oil qui effectuait sa 100^e course avec la Série; un pilote qui a grandement contribué à l'avancement et au succès de la série. Malheureusement, ce programme fût particulièrement difficile terminant en 8^e position.

Toutes les voitures ont subi des tests d'essence après les séances de qualifications. Quant aux inspections d'après course, les 6 premiers ont été inspectés au niveau du cœur de différentiel et de l'arbre de transmission (driving shaft). Toutes les voitures inspectées étaient conformes.

Une course qui fut marquée de seulement 5 neutralisations en 100 tours et qui a offert aux spectateurs présents une épreuve à la hauteur de leur attente.

La table est mise pour le prochain et dernier programme de la saison alors que les voitures Sportsman Qc Lucas Oil seront en piste à l'Autodrome Chaudière pour le Frameco 150. Une course qui s'annonce haute en intensité avec un classement des plus serrés.

Soyez des nôtres le samedi 24 septembre prochain sur l'ovale de Vallée-Jonction pour la conclusion de la 10^e saison de la Série Sportsman Qc.

AUTODROME CHAUDIÈRE - COMMUNIQUÉ D'APRÈS COURSE DU 9 SEPTEMBRE

C'est vendredi 11 septembre que se déroulait l'avant-dernier programme de la saison de stock-car de l'Autodrome Chaudière à Vallée-Jonction.

Pour l'occasion, la Série Sportsman Qc Lucas Oil était présente pour un programme de 2 fois 50 tours ainsi la classe Semi Pro Garage Gilles Roy et Sport Compact Élite Oricom Internet. Quant à la classe Amateur Oricom Internet, les pilotes se sont présentés à leur dernier programme pour terminer le championnat fin de saison.

Un programme qui se sera déroulé sommes toute dans la discipline pour toutes les classes qui auront offerts un excellent spectacle aux amateurs présents.

Le pilote Yan Bilodeau, à bord de son Sprint Car aura conquis les spectateurs présents lors de sa démonstration à l'intermission. Disponible pour les amateurs pendant le programme, sa présence aura sans aucun doute été appréciée et remarquée. Un merci particulier à ses commanditaires, Mercier Marine Thetford Mines, Go Graffic, Garage Bilodeau, Bar Tabou qui lui permettent de vivre cette passion et de nous la partager.

St-Hilaire, champion 2016 Amateur

Pour le championnat de la classe Amateur Oricom Internet, 13 pilotes étaient présents. Si le #08 Dave St-Hilaire était déjà presqu'assuré de remporter le cham pionnat 2016, il aura voulu se dépasser jusqu'à la fin. Remportant la séance de qualifcation, le pilote de Beaucevllle commandité par Ferme Bertnor a été solide en finale. C'est en terminant au 2^e rang de l'épreuve qu'il a confirmé son championnat.

La victoire revient au pilote de la voiture #21 Jean-Philippe Poulin qui remporte ainsi sa 4^e victoire de la saison. Poulin commandité par Gestion Roy Électrique et Moto Sport a été très rapide en finale et a su résister à la pression mis par ses adversaires. Sans aucun doute un aspirant au titre de champion pour la saison 2017.

Le podium s'est complété par le #27 Mickael Giroux de St-Alfred. Giroux commandité par Camion Gilbert et Bar le Loft a connu une excellente saison étant monté sur le podium à de nombreuses reprises. Bien qu'il visait la victoire, il peut dire mission accomplie lui qui termine au XX rang du championnat avec une séance de qualification en moins suite à un bris mécanique.

Le #59 Marc-André Lesage commandité par Les Entreprises Yan Paquet avait un objectif en début de programme; conserver sa 2^e position au classement. Terminant en 5^e position en finale, il s'est assuré ainsi d'aller chercher le titre de Vice-Champion 2016 ainsi que celui de recrue de l'année.

Bien que le championnat de fin de saison soit terminé, vous aurez l'occasion de revoir les pilotes en piste les 24 et 25 septembre prochain pour un programme invitation.

2^e podium consécutif pour Labbé-Pelletier

Les pilotes de la classe Sport Compact Élite Oricom Internet étaient en piste pour l'avant-dernier programme du championnat 2016. Malgré la confortable avance qu'a pris le #75 Steve Godbout au championnat, les pilotes de plus en plus compétitifs dans cette classe n'ont pas l'intention de le laisser remporter aussi facilement. Dans la voiture #110, Olivier Labbé-Pelletier est très performant depuis son retour dans la classe. Ayant manqué les deux premiers programmes de la saison, il a su se démarquer.

La deuxième position revient à la recrue #51 Jeff Côté de Beauceville. Commandité par Garage Mini Mécanique, le pilote âgé de XX a su impresionner par sa qualité de pilotage et sa rapidité et ce de programme en programme. Sa constance, sa patience en piste et l'excellent travail fait par l'équipe sur la voiture lui auront valu d'excellents résultats et le programme de vendredi n'a pas fait exception.

Le podium s'est complété par le #14 Tommy Larouche de St-Patrice de Beaurivage. Un premier podium en saison pour Larouche qui à bord de sa voiture aux couleurs de Myska Savahannah et Redressement d'Auto D Drouin. Un pilote qui n'a jamais baissé les bras depuis le début de la saison malgré plusieurs malchances et qui récolte le fruit de son travail.

Perreault prend la tête du championnat

Les pilotes Semi Pro Garage Gilles Roy participaient à deux séances de qualification ainsi qu'une finale de 25 tours. Dès la première séance de qualification, le #71 James Vachon s'est montré très compétitif terminant au 1^er rang. Le #83 Vincent Vachon a quant à lui remporté la 2^e séance de qualification.

La départ de la finale s'est donné avec en tête le #71 James Vachon commandité par le Garage 10-10. Un pilote combatif qui aura tout donné pour conserver sa position et aller chercher la victoire. Le podium s'est joué dans le dernier tour alors que le #116 Francis Grégoire a détruit les possibilités de podium du #26 Martin Bisson qui était alors en 3^e position. Commettant un geste qualifié anti-sportif par le directeur de course Pierre Lessard, Grégoire qui occupait avant ce programme le 1^er rang du championnat s'est vu disqualifié de la course.

Le #71 James Vachon remporte la victoire au-devant du #83 Vincent Vachon a 0.052 secondes; une finale des plus serrées. Vachon commandité par Frameco et Moto Sport Canada monte ainsi pour un 2^e programme consécutif sur le podium avec sa 2^e position.

C'est le #47 Yves Marcoux de Thetford Mines qui complètent ce podium. Commandité par Grenier G.R Suspension Thetford Mines, le vétéran a pris le départ en finale en 2^e position. Malgré la pression mise par les autres compétiteurs, il est resté concentré sur son objectif ce qui lui aura valu ce podium.

Brandt Graham Looks to Lock-up the 2016 Sportsman Cup Point Title

Maintenance is an important component of any weekly or touring stock car racing series. A good program covers more than just updates to equipment that are done behind the scenes in the shop or before an event at the track. It also pertains to putting together a package that will let a driver maintain their position in the point standings.

Ever since a 3 race win streak that began with back-to-back Lucas Oil Sportsman Cup Series checkered flags – that included the $1000 'Boss of the Beach' Bonus – at Sauble Speedway, Brandt Graham has occupied the top spot in tour points. With only one event remaining on this year's schedule – Saturday, September 17^th – at Flamboro Speedway, the talented teen from Orono, Ontario is looking for a finish that will let him capture the 2016 crown.

"This year has been an amazing one for our team and its all come down to just one race," said the second generation racer, who recently started the Trades Fundamentals Program at Durham College. "Our crew has been working so hard since the first event of the season and we're all excited to see how things are going to play out at this weekend's finale at Flamboro."

Brandt Graham's performance has already earned its own chapter in the Lucas Oil Sportsman Cup Series history books. He scored his first checkered flag at the age of 17; the youngest ever winner on the tour. In 2015, he was named rookie of the year and finished 4^th in the point chase. This year's 3 race win streak put the team in the spotlight as one of the best prepared cars in the field and to be leading the standings this late in the year – at the age of 18 – is quite an accomplishment.

"17 points isn't much of a margin, but I'm hoping we'll be able to hang onto the lead," said Graham. "We tested at Flamboro Speedway before the first event of the season and it will be our 3^rd race there this year, so our set-up book is full of some quality notes. Winning the championship would be the perfect way to end a great season."
