More Than OK: Pepsi to Sponsor Sportsman Modifieds at Devil's Bowl Speedway

Pepsi inks two-year deal at Vermont track; Cleveland, Stratton among early entries

For Immediate Release                                                                                                                                                                                  DBS-030719-1

WEST HAVEN, Vt. – The old Pepsi commercials had that familiar tagline – "New look, same great taste," – and the slogan now rings true at Devil's Bowl Speedway.  Pepsi has entered into a new two-year agreement to be the title sponsor of the headline Sportsman Modified division at the historic Vermont dirt track and to be the "Official Soft Drink of Devil's Bowl Speedway" for 2019 and 2020.

Under their new name as the "Pepsi Sportsman Modifieds," the open-wheel, crate-engine stock cars are poised to continue their climb as the top weekly racing attraction in New England.  Devil's Bowl's 2018 season average of 27 cars per race was the largest car count of any weekly headline division at any dirt or paved track in the six-state New England region, and it appears that things are headed in the same direction for the coming summer.

The 2019 Pepsi Sportsman Modified division already has some big names signed up, with many more expected including rising star Connor Cleveland.  The 23-year-old from Corinth, N.Y. is a former King of Dirt Racing (KOD) Crate Modified Series and Airborne Park Speedway champion with many wins at the iconic Albany-Saratoga, Oswego, and Weedsport speedways.  Cleveland made three Devil's Bowl starts in 2018, with a top-five finish against the KOD tour and a top-10 in the Interstate All Battery Center Vermont 200.

Also geared up for the new year is Modified great Hector Stratton of Bennington, Vt., who has announced a full-time return to Devil's Bowl.  A veteran of 40 years of racing and showing no signs of slowing down, Stratton won 31 times at Devil's Bowl from 1984-98.  Other drivers appearing on the early entry list are perpetual title contender Tim LaDuc, 2018 Rookie of the Year Marty Kelly III, and veterans Brian Whittemore and Walt Hammond Jr.

Devil's Bowl Speedway opens the 2019 season on Sunday night, May 19.  The summer schedule is packed with major events for the Pepsi Sportsman Modifieds including the $12,000-to-win Vermont 200 on Labor Day weekend, September 1.  Also on the schedule are King of Dirt Series events on May 26 and August 11, special 100-lap races on July 3 and July 28, and extra-distance races of 50 laps or longer on June 9 and September 15.

Competitor registration forms and membership licenses are available at discount prices now through March 31, and season passes for both general admission grandstand seating and the pit area are also on sale.

Devil's Bowl Speedway is located on Route 22A in West Haven, Vt., four miles north of U.S. Route 4, Exit 2, and just 20 minutes from Rutland, Vt.  For more information, visitwww.DevilsBowlSpeedwayVT.com or call (802) 265-3112. Devil's Bowl Speedway is on Facebook at facebook.com/DevilsBowlSpeedway, and on Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat at @DevilsBowlSpeed; follow the action using the #DevilsBowl hashtag.

Linc Brown is Ready to Dig His First Year of Dirt Track Racing

Linc Brown is Ready to Dig His First Year of Dirt Track Racing

By Jim Clarke, Clarke Motorsports Communications/First Draft Media

His stock car racing resume spans a career that began in 1992 and includes time with the Goodyear Challenge Cup, ALSTAR and the Grisdale Triple Crown. Multiple main event wins at Mosport Speedway and with the ACT weekly Late Model division at Kawartha Speedway, strong runs at the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park Oval and a season's best 4th place showing on the APC Pro Late Model schedule. His vocation includes laps on nearly every asphalt speedway in the province. Even with that much experience to draw from, when the 2019 season gets underway, Linc Brown will experience something brand new in his time behind the wheel.

After racing motocross in his teens, the 53-year-old father of 2 from Colborne, Ontario will return to his roots; adding a yellow 'rookie' stripe to the back bumper of his equipment, as he makes his dirt track stock car debut in the Canadian Modified division at Brighton Speedway. It'll also be the first time he's driven a racecar without a windshield, 4 fenders and with exposed front suspension components. Although he admits there will be a lot to learn, the veteran runner says he's looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead.

"We're starting with a clean slate. No matter what I've done before in my career, everything about this will be new," said the driver. "I've been around a dirt track a time or 2 to help some of my friends, but never raced on one. I won't just need to get familiar with a new car but also different vernacular – including learning the meaning of terms like cushion, berm, tacky and more – as well as some new competition. My notebook is empty and I can't wait to start filling its pages."

Linc Brown says one thing that remains unchanged about his 2019 racing return is the long-time relationship with sponsorship partner Tom Elliott at Kawartha Metals (www.kawarthametals.com). Branded as the 'Candy Store for Welders', the company has been associated with the #99 team's equipment for 20 years. Also returning this year is Mayhew Graphics (www.mayhewgraphics.com), who along with Andrew Gates from Gates Race Designs (www.gatesracedesigns.com) have done an amazing job at putting together the car's paint scheme and graphic layout.

New to the team this season will be Sine's Flooring (www.sinesflooring.ca).  With locations in Brighton and Cobourg, the motorsports supporter of both dirt and pavement racing is a welcome addition to the program this year. Brown says he's excited about having some familiar names helping to support his rookie calendar of dirt track racing.

"Larry Sine and I have been friends for a few years now and I'm happy to have his family's business associated with the team," said Linc Brown. "It should be a great season and I'm really looking forward to getting things underway. After doing so much travelling earlier in my career, it'll be nice to race somewhere that's about half an hour from my front door."

Brighton Speedway's 2019 season gets underway Saturday May 4th, with test and tune practice session dates scheduled for April 27th, 28th and May 1st. For complete schedule details, see www.brightonspeedway.com.

Colborne, Ontario's Linc Brown will take his #99 Canadian Modified machine into battle during the upcoming season at Brighton Speedway. It will be the veteran runner's first foray into dirt track racing.

EVEN WHILE ON DISPLAY IN THE PERFORMANCE
IMPROVEMENTS BOOTH AT MOTORAMA

March 8, 9 & 10, 2019 at Toronto's International Centre

TORONTO, ON // FEBRUARY 25, 2019 • Performance Improvements is returning to theMotorama Custom Car & Motorsports Expo for a fifth consecutive year. The 2019 edition of their display – in Booth #101 at the entrance to Hall 1 – will feature Mark Bovey's 1971 GMC farm truck; the first of its kind to ever race in Targa Newfoundland.

The Toronto Motorama show takes place on March 8, 9 & 10 at The International Centre, across from Toronto's Pearson Airport.

In 2015, Bovey and co-driver Miles Markovic took the heavily modified truck, which Bovey's father bought for the then 14-year-old for $100, to Newfoundland to race in one of the most difficult endurance races in North America. Over the course of the five-segment event, Bovey and Markovic shocked the locals and their fellow racers, earning the Rookie of the Year title, a second-place finish in the Classic division and proving a truck could be successful in such a gruelling event.

With success at Targa Newfoundland achieved, Bovey has turned his attention to the legendary Pikes Peak hill climb and has begun the process of further modifying the venerable truck to prepare for it.

In fact, Bovey and his team will be working the car at Motorama! At 3 p.m. on Saturday (March 9), showgoers can watch Bovey plumb the Targa Truck with Vibrant Performance PTFE-lined hoses and fittings at the Performance Improvements display.

In addition to Bovey's truck, the Performance Improvements display will feature additional products from Canada's own Vibrant Performance parts, a set of Baja 1000 headers built by IIk Design and Fabrication, a complete intercooler/heat exchanger setup by Proper Fabrications and a Schmuck-built turbo manifold.

The Performance Improvements display will also feature the world's most expensive Muskoka chair, built entirely from Vibrant Performance titanium pieces, plus products available for purchase with cash, Visa or Mastercard, including EFIs from Fitech and Holley, Racequip helmets and safety equipment, So-Cal t-shirts and hats and much more.

ABOUT PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENTS: In 1964, young Susan McKee (ultimately McJannett) was tired of listening to her boyfriend, Bob McJannett, complain about the bad customer service he received while buying his performance parts and thought they could do better. She invested all her savings to open their own part-time speed shop in Etobicoke, ON. Over 50 years later, this family-run Canadian business is still going strong and the Performance Improvements warehouse superstore in Etobicoke is the largest Speed Shop in Ontario. MAVTV CANADA TELEVISION TAPING ALL ACCESS SHOW AT MOTORAMA

MAVTV CANADA TELEVISION TAPING
ALL ACCESS SHOW AT MOTORAMA

March 8, 9 & 10, 2019 at Toronto's International Centre

TORONTO, ON // MARCH 6, 2019 • Launched nationally in 2018, MAVTV Canada was created to fill a void. While there is no shortage of grassroots and professional racing content on TV in the US, Canadian racing fans weren't as fortunate. Until now.

In the time since it first started broadcasting, MAVTV Canada has vastly increased its reach throughout the country via the addition of new carriers, to the point where it is now available in more than five million Canadian homes.

A key component of the network's mandate is to cover and promote Canadian motorsports of all kinds. As part of that, MAVTV Canada will be on-site and very active at this weekend's Motorama Custom Car & Motorsports Expo at Toronto's International Centre, across from Pearson Airport. The show takes place March 8, 9 & 10.

"For the past year, our focus has been getting MAVTV Canada available in as many households across the country, which we continue to do," said Mike Garrow, president of MAVTV Canada. "This year, our goal is to expand coverage around grassroots racing here in Canada by providing a 24/7 destination that various tracks, race organizations, race teams and sponsors can unitize to showcase their offerings."

MAVTV Canada also features much of the American counterpart channel's programming, including such racing events as the Chili Bowl Nationals and the Menard's ARCA Racing Series, plus race programming from off-road racing, drag boat and snowmobile racing, motocross competition, late model dirt and sprint car events.

Keeping in touch with the custom car and hot rod hobbyist, the MAVTV programming line up also includes well known shows such as Stacey David's GearzMy Classic Car featuring the inimitable Dennis Gage, Chop, Cut, Rebuild with Canadian host Dan Woods and Dream Ridez.

"All we needed to do was look at our program listings to see the obvious connection with theMotorama Custom Car & Motorsports Expo," continued Garrow. The Motorama show is just a perfect fit as we look to broaden our grassroots racing coverage."

"Our big push will take place during Saturday's Drag Racing and Short Track Night of Championswhere we are looking to speak with the drivers and promote, not only their efforts and achievements, but also the racing venues and series they're involved with."

Garrow then revealed that a MAVTV Canada TV production team will also spend the weekend on theMotorama show floor, interviewing racers, track promoters, companies, organizations and exhibitors that will be included in an All Access Motorama show feature production, to be aired in early April.

"MAVTV was originally created to carry a diverse line-up of programming, with the focus on grassroots racing. We could think of no better source to find out who those people and racing series are, than by taking part in the Motorama show," concluded Garrow.

Speaking on behalf of Motorama, show co-promoter David Weber said, "Since MAVTV Canada was announced, we've known that their first job was making it available in Canadian homes. Now that Mike Garrow and his team have been successful at that, they're looking to add Canadian auto enthusiast and racing content. As the publishers of Inside Track Motorsport News and Inside Motorcycles, we know there is demand for grassroots racing coverage and content in this country. We're excited to welcome MAVTV Canada to the show because it will shine a light on the racers, tracks, series, car owners, exhibitors and sponsors who are starting their 2019 racing and car show seasons at Motorama."

ABOUT MAVTV CANADA: Operated by REV Sports Entertainment Inc. MAVTV is available in 5.2 million household across Canada. Check with your content provider for availability in your market. MULTIMATIC MOTORSPORTS PRESENTS HUGE MUSTANG TRIBUTE FEATURE AT THE TORONTO MOTORAMA SHOW

MULTIMATIC MOTORSPORTS PRESENTS HUGE MUSTANG

TRIBUTE FEATURE AT THE TORONTO MOTORAMA SHOW

March 8, 9 & 10, 2019 at Toronto's International Centre

TORONTO, ON // FEBRUARY 19, 2019 • The fifth annual Motorama Custom Car & Motorsports Expo will recognize and celebrate the 55th anniversary of the legendary Ford Mustang. Presented by Multimatic Motorsports, The Mustang Corral will feature an eye-catching assortment of street and racing versions of the iconic muscle car, from its introduction to the present.

Still reeling from the failure of the Ford Edsel, Henry Ford II was originally reluctant to approve Lee Iacocca's concept for the new Mustang. Eventually, Ford relented, and production began, with the first example rolling off the assembly line on March 9, 1964. Over the ensuing 55 years, six generations of Mustangs – totalling over 10 million vehicles – have been produced.

Stated Motorama Show Car Co-ordinator Gary Challice, "It's perfectly timed for the Motorama show to celebrate the Mustang, a car that set the standard for the muscle cars in the 1960s and beyond. Mustang has such a glorious history, we're honoured to have more than 40 examples, covering the full spectrum of street, road racing and drag cars, here to celebrate the 55th anniversary."

Challice continued, "We will have a very rare, special edition Laguna Seca Mustang on display in the front hall. And with the aid of the Barrie Mustang Cruisers, The Golden Horseshoe Mustang Club and The Ontario Mustang Club, show visitors will be able to see virtually every style of Mustang ever produced."

When it comes to engineering and building production-based Mustangs for global road racing series, the undisputed leader is Markham, Ontario's Multimatic Motorsports.

With the assistance of Canadian race driver, Scott Maxwell, Multimatic has designed, developed and constructed road-race Mustangs that have enjoyed a long and distinguished history of success.

One of Multimatic's most recent developments is the Mustang GT4, homologated for global GT4 competition, and currently racing in the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge, Blancpain GT World Challenge America and the British GT Championship.

Multimatic Motorsports' display at Motorama will include a Mustang GT4, along with the company's 'retro-mod' 1932 Ford Coupe. In addition, as builder of the current Ford GT supercar, Multimatic will have one on display, liveried in the iconic Comstock Racing colours. Multimatic will also have recruiters on-site, specifically seeking highly skilled painters and detailers for its Ford GT assembly facility in Markham.

Multimatic Motorsports will support the show's Mustang exhibitors by sponsoring participation plaques of appreciation that will be awarded to each car owner.

"The response from Mustang clubs and car owners to the anniversary feature atMotorama has been incredible," said Motorama's Rob Morton. "This will be the biggest single-make celebration we've ever included at the show. The fact that Canada's own Multimatic is going to be a big part of it is the cherry on top! We've worked closely with them since our company was formed in 1997. We were honoured to be on their Le Mans-winning car in 2000, and Larry Holt's (Multimatic's Chief Technology Officer) column in our car racing magazine, Inside Track Motorsport News, is a 'must read' piece in every issue. We're honoured that they're participating at the show this year."

The Mustang Corral will occupy the southern portion of Hall 2 in Toronto's International Centre and will welcome the public for all three days (March 8, 9 & 10) ofMotorama.

A resident of Phoenix, Arizona, Bogi owns and operates 180 Degrees Automotive in her hometown. She also heads nationwide initiatives to connect women in the trades and encourage women to explore careers in the trades through her Girl Gang Garage and all-female builds.

Bogi's love affair with cars began when she was 16 years-old. Her first vehicle was an old VW Beetle. After multiple bad experiences at repair shops, she enrolled in her high school's auto shop program so she could restore the vehicle herself. After graduating with honors from Oberlin College on a pre-law career track, she changed course and moved to Phoenix to attend the Universal Technical Institute (UTI) to become a mechanic.

After graduating from UTI, Lateiner worked for a BMW dealership for six years before opening her own shop. Her vision in creating 180 Degrees Automotive was to create a garage unlike any other. The space doubles as an art gallery and is one of only a few shops that is almost entirely staffed by female mechanics.

In 2012, Bogi came to prominence when she began hosting All Girls Garage on the Velocity network. In 2017, her Girl Gang Garage made headlines when an all-female team built a '57 Chevy truck, powered by a BMW S62 engine. The vehicle, dubbedMontage, was featured in the BASF booth at the Las Vegas SEMA show alongside builds from the Ring Brothers and the legendary Chip Foose.

"BASF focuses on more than providing our customers with paint for high-quality finishes," said Mark Huisman, BASF Canada Business Manager. "We focus on sustaining our industry through partnerships like the one we have with Bogi. Her commitment to events such as Motorama make a huge impact on supporting high-quality, safe vehicle repairs by talented professionals."

Speaking on behalf of Motorama, co-promoter David Weber said, "BASF Canada is a great supporter of Motorama. Their display is always superb, and they sponsor awards for car-owners at the show. BASF has a relationship with Bogi so it's a perfect fit that they're the presenting sponsor of her appearance at Motorama."
