Significant Investments in Infrastructure & Technology Will Enhance Live Event Production and Content Capabilities

 

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (August 10, 2022) – NASCAR announced today that construction will begin on a brand new state-of-the-art Productions facility later this summer. The 58,000 square-foot facility will be built on the land adjacent to the NASCAR R&D Center in Concord, North Carolina.

 

The new facility will house approximately 125 NASCAR Productions and MRN employees with further room to expand operations in the future. NASCAR will continue to have a significant presence in the Uptown Charlotte area, with a large contingent of employees remaining in Five Fifty South (formerly known as NASCAR Plaza) for the foreseeable future.

 

NASCAR will make significant investments in its productions infrastructure and technology to deliver first-class live event production and content to NASCAR's fans and industry partners. This commitment furthers NASCAR's mission of providing fans with enhanced content that brings them closer to the sport.

 

"The scope and scale of the NASCAR Productions business has fundamentally changed in recent years, with NASCAR's live event production operation more than doubling since 2018. Developing a state-of-the-art facility that can accommodate our continued expansion was paramount," said Brian Herbst, SVP, Media and Productions. "In this evolving sports media landscape, live event production and investing in technology that enhances the fan viewing experience has never been more important - it's essential that our new workspace can facilitate that strategic growth."

 

NASCAR Productions will produce more than 500 live events in 2022, up from 200 live events in 2018.  Through a partnership with NEP Group, an industry-leader in delivering solutions for broadcast and live events, the new NASCAR Productions facility will be outfitted with the latest broadcast equipment and software to create high-end production quality and content. 

 

The new location is strategically located next to the NASCAR R&D Center and will be more closely situated to a majority of NASCAR team operations. The facility will offer more space and will be a far more efficient resource for the industry at large. Though still in the early stages of development, the new facility is expected to be fully operational by the start of the 2024 season. 

 

NASCAR Studios, the sanctioning body's hub for content strategy, creation and distribution will also have employees based at the new facility in Concord.

 

NASCAR will conduct a ceremonially ground-breaking event on Wednesday, August 31st. More information will be shared as details for the event become finalized.

Delivering the Saturday Night Racing Goods at Peterborough Speedway

With only a handful of events remaining in the regular season, teams from the home track Mini Stock, Renegade Truck, Super Stock and Late Model divisions were joined by the Trailers Plus Canadian Legend Car Series – Saturday, August 6th, with sponsorship from Babin's Automotive Repair, servicing all makes and models – for a chance to add championship points toward their quest for the 2022 Peterborough Speedway titles. 

 

The first of night's main events to hit the track was a 20 lapper for the Trent Lakes Complete Plumbing Renegade Trucks, as Terry Hubbert and Bill O'Hara brought the starting the field to the line. Paul Boundy wheeled his way into an early, with O'Hara holding-down the runner-up position. An early race caution flag slowed the pace, with Kyle Gordon moving into 3rd, then taking 2ndspot with just 7 laps on the board. With Boundy still leading, Gordon was looking for the position and took the top spot with 11 laps complete and scored the eventual win. Boundy held on for 2nd, with Stacy Switzer, O'Hara and Hubbert completing the top-5. 

 

Bobby Cousineau and James Townsend were on the front row as the Late Models took the Great Canadian RV green flag for their feature tilt. Using his inside line starting spot, Cousineau claimed the early lead with Dan McHattie and Jacob Mercer moving their rides into contention. The yellow flag flew with 7 laps on the scoreboard and Cousineau holding the lead on the restart. Mercer took the runner-up spot with a dozen laps complete, but everyone in the field was looking for a spot. Cousineau held-off his challengers for his first career win, over McHattie, Townsend, Mercer and Steve Powell. 

 

Chris Tubman and reigning track champion Jeremy Kelly paced the Jiffy Lube Mini Stock field to the line. The pair ran nearly identical laps through the opening stages, with Kent Missons, Ember Junkin and Brock Baker locked in a torrid 3-car battle for 3rd place in the running order. As the laps clicked away, the first 4 cars in the line-up were running about a car length apart, with Tubman continuing to show the fast way around. The 20-lap race distance seemed to roll by in the blink of an eye as Tubman took his 2nd win of the season in the caution-free feature. Kelly, Tyler Junkin, Shawn Solomon and Ember Junkin completed the top 5. 

 

The 20 lap KOD Disposal Super Stock pack rolled from the staging area with Marlie Owen and current point leader Bailey Jacobs on the front row. Even without the humidity, the Super Stock field has delivered some of the hottest action of the year. Owen took the lead, bringing Jacobs along with her. The long-time track favourite led through the early stages and was still in control at the caution flag that flew at the halfway mark. Jacobs continued to look for a way around the No. 21 car, but Marlie Owen was equal to every challenge on the way to her 2nd win of 2022. Paul Boundy, Mark Gordon and Jeremy Dobb chased the lead duo across the stripe. 

 

Feature race action for the night wrapped-up with the Trailers Plus Canadian Legend Car Series that saw Wes Cuthbertson and Glenn Morris lead the field to the green flag. Cuthbertson took the lead early and had a strong piece throughout the race distance. Dawson Drimmie moved into the runner-up position, with Matt Haufe hot on his tail. Slower traffic came into play around lap 8, with the race's first caution flag for an issue on the front stretch with 10 laps on the scoreboard. Adam Cuthbertson moved into a spot to challenge his brother for the lead, but the race pace was slower again for debris on the backstretch. A number of different drivers scored at least one lap at the front, but Parker Traves made the pass that mattered with a pass for the top spot with only 3 laps remaining. The No. 60 machine took his 5th win of the year, ahead of Wes Cuthbertson, Haufe, Adam Cuthbertson and Drimmie. 

 

Kyle Gordon and Terry Hubbert split the Renegade Truck qualifying events, with James Townsend and Jacob Mercer each scoring a Late Model heat race win. Tyler Junkin, Jeremy Kelly, Chris Tubman and Kent Missions claimed Mini Stock preliminary round wins, with Marlie Owen and Paul Boundy sharing Super Stock heat checkered flags. Zach Latimer had a couple of Canadian Legend Car opening round victories, with the others going to Adam Cuthbertson and Dawson Drimmie. 

 

All finishing positions are unofficial and subject to scoring review as well as post-race technical and safety inspection. 

 

Bullring bullet points: With temperatures in the 30 degree range and humidity levels forcing things even higher, the Hot August Nights Racing Series lived-up to its advanced billing…Kathy McCabe of Lindsay, Ontario pocketed the night's 50/50 draw cash of $411.00…Home track Mini Stock racer Victor Vowles recorded a fast time during King of the Hill, wheeling his 2010 Hyundai Genesis…Former track regular Kent Missons took a turn at the wheel of the No. 84 Mini Stock, filling-in for Rob Crick…Ryan Babin returned to the Mini Stock ranks in a race-winning ride acquired from Nolan Gould. His night was cut short when the rebranded No. 89x machine retired before the end of the feature event. 

 

The year's final Double Toonie/Fan Appreciation Night – presented by Pepsi – is next on the 2022 schedule at Peterborough Speedway. On track action includes the home track Bone Stock, Mini Stock, Renegade Truck, Late Model and Junior Late Model divisions, plus the Ontario Modifieds Racing Series. General admission passes are $ 4.00, with a Fan Appreciation autograph session at intermission. Pit gates for the Saturday, August 13th show open at 1:30, with the spectator grandstands unlocked at 4:00. Racing starts at 5:00.

Parker Traves Wins a Canadian Legend Car Thriller at Peterborough Speedway

It was a new verse to a familiar song as Parker Traves scored the Trailers Plus Canadian Legend Car Series main event win – Saturday, August 6th – at Peterborough Speedway. 

 

Taking the initial green flag from the outside of the 2nd row, Traves chased Wes Cuthbertson and Zach Latimer through the early stages of the 25-lap headliner as Dawson Drimmie, Matt Haufe and Adam Cuthbertson worked their way into the top 5 with just over a handful of laps showing on the scoreboard.  

 

The leaders began working through slower cars at the tail of the field with 8 laps complete, with the night's first yellow flag slowing the pace for an issue on the front stretch as the lap counter showed 10 circuits complete. 

 

Adam Cuthbertson – a former series champion – took full advantage of the tour's choose rule and lined-up alongside his brother for the restart. With Wes Cuthbertson doing his best to hold-off his sibling, another caution flag, with 19 laps down – this time for debris on the backstretch – brought the pack back together. 

 

Parker Traves took over the runner-up spot on the restart and moved into a lead he wouldn't surrender with only 3 laps remaining to take his 5th win of the year. Wes Cuthbertson, Matt Haufe, Adam Cuthbertson and Dawson Drimmie completed the top 5. Jordan Latimer, Zach Latimer, Glenn Morris, Sean Walker, Jeff McKibbon and Mark Griffin rounded-out the finishing order. 

 

Trailers Plus Canadian Legend Car Series qualifying events were won by Zach Latimer with a pair. The others went to Adam Cuthbertson and Dawson Drimmie. 

 

Canadian Legend Car Series notebook: It was a rough night for a trio of tour regulars. An issue during the show's first qualifying heat saw the No. 08 machine of Steve Gareau tumble down the backstretch. The driver was uninjured when checked by track personnel but his night was over, as it was for the No. 33 of Paul Pierik…After being involved in an incident Saturday, July 9th – the last time the tour visited Peterborough Speedway – 15-year-old rookie Cameron Townson was anxious to get back to the track. With the help of several friends, family members and crew from other teams, including Super Stock racer Brad Stevenson the No. 24 ride made it to the speedway. Unfortunately, mechanical issues kept the young car owner/driver from taking the feature race green flag. 

 

The Trailers Plus Canadian Legend Car Series will head to Sunset Speedway Saturday, August 13th.

It isn't too early to start thinking about one of the biggest events on the 2022 Brockville Ontario Speedway schedule, 

 

Sprint Car fans unite! The Trailer Pros Canada Sprint Race Weekend is coming up fast! Don't hear about it from your friends. Make you plans now to see the winged warriors in person. Everything kicks-off Friday, September 9th with the Action Sprint Tour, Pro Stocks, NLMA Late Models and Vintage Modifieds. 

 

360 Sprint Cars, Action Sprint Tour and Vintage Mods will share the spotlight Saturday, September 10th. Custom trophies by Gates Graphics will be awarded each night. Brockville Speedway owner and promoter Paul Kirkland says everyone is talking about the inaugural stand-alone Sprint Car focused weekend in the track's history.

"We've pulled out all the stops to put this show together and it's the perfect showcase event to fit in between the end of our 2022 regular season and this year's running of the Northeast Fall Nationals," Paul Kirkland said. "As is the case for all of our major events, fans can camp at the track all weekend. At $25.00 each, sites will be assigned on a first come, first served basis. Just stop at the office when you arrive and your camping permit will be assigned."

L'histoire penche en faveur des pilotes québécois à Edmonton

Après cinq courses dans trois provinces différentes, le rythme revient à la "normale" dans la série NASCAR Pinty's.

 

Le week-end dernier, le retour dans les rues de Toronto devant des milliers d'amateurs, a su rappeler les changements imposés à notre sport par la pandémie, commençant par les modifications radicales des calendriers des saisons 2020 et 2021. Le voyage de ce week-end dans l'Ouest rapproche encore plus la série de la "normalité" habituelle, tant appréciée des pilotes comme des amateurs.

 

À l'instar de l'événement à Toronto, le Bayer 300 au Edmonton International Raceway marque le retour de la série Pinty's dans l'Ouest après deux saisons d'absence. Un léger changement à la séquence des courses amène les équipes à Edmonton pour la première course de la tournée. La visite à Saskatoon prendra place le mercredi suivant, sur le chemin du retour (la série s'arrêtait d'abord à Saskatoon entre 2017 et 2019).

 

Un coup d'œil aux résultats d'archive sur le tracé de 0,25 mile n'indique peut-être pas un gagnant évident pour cette année, mais plutôt une tendance qui saute aux yeux : 12 des 18 places sur les podiums au fil des années ont été occupées par des pilotes québécois. Cinq des six courses d'Edmonton ont été remportées par des pilotes québécois (Andrew Ranger - 2014, 19 ; Alex Tagliani - 2016 ; Alex Labbé - 2017 ; Louis-Philippe Dumoulin - 2018), la seule exception étant Scott Steckly en 2015.

 

Il s'agit là d'une constatation qui plaira certainement à Kevin Lacroix (Dodge Lacroix Tuning no 74), vainqueur à Toronto le week-end dernier et meneur actuel au classement des pilotes. Reconnu comme spécialiste des circuits routiers, Lacroix a su s'adapter rapidement sur les tracés ovales aux virages relativement bas. Cette configuration est proche de l'inclinaison des circuits routiers, exactement comme la géométrie du tracé à Edmonton.

 

« Je pense que je suis plus rapide sur les pistes plates », a déclaré Lacroix. « Les virages sont plus similaires à ceux des circuits routiers. »

 

Selon le meneur actuel au championnat, la substitution au calendrier joue en sa faveur. « Je suis heureux que nous commencions à Edmonton parce que nous avons toujours bien fait là-bas », a déclaré Lacroix. « Notre objectif est d'accumuler autant de points que possible pour arriver à Saskatoon avec une plus grande avance pour le titre. »

 

Lacroix a pris le départ de la pole E3 Spark Plugs lors de trois de ses quatre présences à Edmonton. Bien qu'il soit toujours à la recherche de sa première victoire là-bas, il a mené plus de 10 tours dans trois courses. En 2018, il a mené les 281 premiers tours (sur 300), avant d'être victime d'un tête-à-queue et d'une relance qui l'a laissé derrière le vainqueur Louis-Philippe Dumoulin (Dodge Weathertech Canada / Groupe Bellemare no 47).

 

Louis-Philippe Dumoulin souhaite poursuivre sur sa lancée suite au podium de Toronto avec une tournée de l'Ouest payante au niveau des points.

Paradoxalement, en course automobile, la vitesse n'est pas toujours synonyme de meilleurs résultats. Même si la Dodge no 47 de Louis-Philippe Dumoulin démontre sa vitesse pure à chaque sortie, une suite d'incidents en début de saison l'a laissé huitième au classement après cinq courses. Même avec deux pôles E3 Spark Plugs et des tours menés dans trois courses, le Grand Prix de Toronto a été le premier podium de 2022 pour Dumoulin.

 

La tournée dans l'Ouest arrive au bon moment pour Louis-Philippe Dumoulin.

 

« Lorsque nous allons dans l'ouest, il semble que toute l'équipe soit concentrée sur la course, sans distraction », a déclaré Dumoulin. « C'est le bon moment de reprendre le dessus sur des problèmes que nous avons eus en début de saison. »

 

Edmonton est la piste parfaite pour faire une démonstration. En six courses, Louis-Philippe Dumoulin compte cinq podiums, dont une victoire en 2018 et trois secondes places. « C'est une petite piste complexe, il est essentiel de rester concentré », a déclaré Dumoulin. « Chaque année, nous nous présentons avec des réglages améliorés pour performer davantage. Nous avons souvent terminé dans le top-5 ; cette année, nous voulons la victoire. »

Following five races in three provinces, things are starting to feel "normal" in the NASCAR Pinty's Series.

 

Last weekend's return to the streets of Toronto in front of thousands of fans was a reminder of how far things have come since the pandemic drastically altered the 2020 and '21 schedules. This weekend's trip out West brings the series one step closer to that "normal."

 

As was the case with Toronto, the Bayer 300 at Edmonton International Raceway is the first time the Pinty's Series has ventured West since 2019. One slight twist, however – Edmonton will kick off the Western Swing, followed by a Wednesday twin feature in Saskatoon. Saskatoon had opened the annual western trip each year from 2017-19.

 

A look at past performance at the .25-mile bullring might not point you to an obvious race winner, but it will point to a trend that is hard to ignore – 12 of 18 podium positions have been secured by Quebec drivers. Five of six Edmonton races have been won by Quebec drivers (Andrew Ranger – 2014, '19; Alex Tagliani – 2016; Alex Labbe – 2017; L.P. Dumoulin – 2018), the lone exception being Scott Steckly in 2015.

 

That's great news for Toronto winner, and series points standings leader, Kevin Lacroix (No. 74 Lacroix Tuning Dodge).  Despite making his name as a road course ace, Lacroix has taken kindly to the relatively low banking at Edmonton.

 

"I think I'm faster on flat tracks," Lacroix said. "The corners are more similar to road course corners."

 

And with the points lead, the schedule flip-flop is working in his favor.

 

"I'm glad we're starting in Edmonton because we've always done well there," said Lacroix. "Our goal is to score as many points as possible to get to Saskatoon in a good position for the championship."

 

Lacroix has started on the E3 Spark Plugs Pole in three of his four races at Edmonton. And while he's still searching for his first win, he's led double digit laps in three races. He led the first 281 (of 300) laps before a late spin and restart dropped him behind eventual winner L.P. Dumoulin (No. 47 Weathertech Canada / Groupe Bellemare Dodge).

The thing about racing is that speed doesn't always equal results.

 

And despite the No. 47 Dodge of L.P. Dumoulin showing speed each week, a series of unfortunate incidents has left him eighth in the standings after five races. On top of that, even with two E3 Spark Plugs Poles and laps led in three races, the Grand Prix of Toronto was the first podium finish of 2022 for Dumoulin.

 

The Western Swing comes at a perfect opportunity for Dumoulin to keep the momentum going.

 

"When we go out West it seems like the whole team is focused on racing with no distractions," Dumoulin said. "It's a good time for us to redeem ourselves from the problems we had at the beginning of the season."

 

Edmonton is the perfect track to make a statement. In six races he has five podium finishes, including a win in 2018 and three runner-ups.

 

"It's a tough little track, you have to stay focused," Dumoulin said. "Every year we show up with a different setup and try to find something better every year. We always seem to end up in the top five; this year we want the win."
