Weekend frustrant pour Marc-Antoine Camirand à Watkins Glen

 

 

Montréal, le 9 août 2015 – Marc-Antoine Camirand a malheureusement terminé sa course K&N en 17e place après qu'un bris de la suspension avant ne l'ait envoyé dans un bac à gravier alors qu'il restait deux tours à faire au Bully Hill Vineyard 250, couru à Watkins Glen. Camirand pilotait la Chevrolet no 53 de l'équipe NDS Motorsports lors de cette première participation à la série K&N Pro East, la plus importante porte d'entrée vers les trois grandes séries NASCAR : les camions, l'Xfinity et la Sprint.

 

Avec toute l'action en série K&N concentrée sur le vendredi, il était essentiel de ne pas perdre un instant de temps en piste comme entre les présences en piste pour optimiser la voiture. Forcée par les circonstances d'utiliser une voiture plus vieille, l'équipe se présenta à l'inspection technique et fut renvoyée par les officiels pour non-conformité du système de ventilation des freins avant. 

 

Camirand y voit la clé d'un résultat non satisfaisante. « Personne chez NDS n'avait été averti de ces changements et nous avons perdu presque la totalité de la première heure d'essais à régulariser la voiture. Nous étions donc derrière toutes les autres équipes, et n'avons jamais réussi à corriger un problème de sous-virage persistant qui nous ralentissait en sortie de virage et tout au long des trois longues lignes droites. La voiture était bonne, mais nous manquions de temps en piste pour résoudre le problème. »

 

Parti de la 11e place, le pilote de St-Léonard-d'Aston a su maintenir sa position sans toutefois avoir les armes pour doubler les pilotes devant lui, une situation pour le moins frustrante. Camirand y mettait tout de même le paquet. « Lors d'une relance, j'ai doublé une ou deux voitures plus lentes avant de traverser la ligne de départ, et un drapeau noir m'a relégué à la dernière place et forcé à remonter tout le peloton. »

Alors qu'il ne restait que deux tours à la course, un pneu crevé à l'avant gauche a envoyé la voiture dans un bac à gravier et hors course. Camirand se trouve tout de même chanceux dans cet incident. « Le virage en question est super rapide, et le bac à gravier a arrêté la voiture avant d'arriver au mur, où le choc aurait pu être très violent. »

 

Camirand et toute l'équipe étaient pour le moins frustrés de la tournure des évènements, mais ont parlé d'un retour possible de Marc-Antoine plus tard cette saison.

 

Entretemps, Marc-Antoine sera de retour en piste à Antigonish (Nouvelle-Écosse) en série NASCAR Canadian Tire le 15 août prochain.

Scarborough, ME – Windham, ME's Brad Babb got the upper hand in a battle two-time American-Canadian Tour (ACT) Champion Wayne Helliwell Jr. to take his second ACT Tour win of the season in the Beech Ridge 150 at Scarborough, ME's Beech Ridge Motor Speedway on Saturday, August 8.

 

The 2012 Beech Ridge Pro Series Champion lost the lead to Helliwell on the race's final restart on lap 142, but swung to the outside four laps later to regain the top spot. Babb then held off Helliwell and Eddie MacDonald to become the ninth different winner in as many ACT Late Model Tour events at Beech Ridge.

 

"I knew it was going to be tough on the restart being stuck on the bottom," Babb said. "Wayne got by, and at that point I thought I was just going to try and hold on for second. But the car came back to me after a lap or two, and once I got to the outside of him, it was as good as it was all day."

 

In addition to the win coming at Babb's home track, it provided some redemption from the Tour's previous event at Oxford Plains Speedway, when Babb made contact with Joey Polewarczyk Jr. and eventually spun while racing for the win.

 

"Winning any race is a big deal to me, but to win on a Tour like this…two years ago I never would have expected it," Babb said. "To be able to do it twice in one year just means the world to me."

 

Auburn, ME's Travis Stearns led the first 60 laps from the pole before the race's second caution on lap 60 when Travis Fadden spun while trying to remain on the lead lap. Babb got the nose up on the restart and eventually secured the top spot after running side-by-side with Stearns for nearly 20 laps.

 

Babb gradually pulled out to a straightaway advantage as Stearns and "Joey Pole" tussled for the second spot, with Helliwell and MacDonald eventually joining the battle as well. Pole finally gained the position on lap 127 and set to work trying to reel in Babb in hopes of a rematch from Oxford.

 

But with 10 laps to go, the lapped cars of Emily Packard and Dillon Moltz got together on the backstretch, sending Packard spinning right in front of Pole. Despite sliding sideways to try and avoid the spin, Pole struck Packard with his right front, forcing him to pit with a flat tire during the ensuing caution.

 

Helliwell assumed the second spot and snaked by two lapped cars on the restart to get to Babb's rear bumper. Kyle Welch then spun in turn one with a flat left rear tire to bring out the fourth and final caution with eight laps to go and set up the final battle.

 

Helliwell finished second to unofficially retake the points lead by eight over Pole. MacDonald took third followed by Stearns and Rowland Robinson Jr. Dave Farrington Jr., Jeff White, Pole, Jimmy Hebert, and Welch rounded out the top-10.

 

Babb, Hebert, and Pole won the heat races. Mike Ziter and Derrick O'Donnell won the consolation races with Matt Anderson taking the last-chance B-Feature. Thirty-one cars attempted to qualify for the event.

 

The ACT Tour will travel north of the border to St-Croix, QC's Circuit Riverside Speedway for the sixth annual Can-Am 150 on Saturday, August 8. The event is the second combination event of the year between the ACT U.S. Tour and the Quebec-based Série ACT.

2e COURSE DE LA SAISON POUR LES PILOTES VINTAGE QUÉBEC




Le vétéran LANGIS CARON, sera l'homme à battre samedi soir en Vintage.

Pour une première fois depuis septembre 2013, les pilotes de l'Association de Stock Car Vintage Québec seront en piste dans le cadre de leur deuxième course en 2015 , qui sera présentée par Brossard Performance et Garage Renaud Blais.

 

Une douzaine des engagés de cette série devraient y être pour tenter de mettre fin à la domination du vétéran, le beauceron Langis Caron qui s'est mérité les honneurs des deux finales présentées à l'occasion de la première course de la saison, en juillet dernier. Ce dernier a pris la mesure des Verner, père et fils,  Beaubien, Vallières, Gagnon, Renaud et autres lors de cette domination où la voiture #35 était soudée au bitume.

 

 

Lors de ce même événement,  on a vu les moteurs des deux voitures de Lucien Rocheleau rendre l'âme lors des essais, avant même de prendre le départ de la première qualification. Rejoint au téléphone au cours de sa semaine, le pilote de Terrebonne a confirmé la présence de ses deux voitures à Montmagny, sa Chevelle #66 et la Chevy II #68 qui sera pilotée par Claude Angers qui effectue un retour en stock car après plusieurs années de retraite. Il devrait en être de même pour Daniel Goyette (#62) et Jean Sébastien St-Antoine (43) deux autres qui ont éprouvé des problèmes lors de ce même programme.

 

Une autre voiture qui devrait être en piste après une absence de plus d'une saison est la voiture #11 qui sera pilotée par Jean-François Champagne de la région de Montréal.

 

Avec tous les autres participants qui seront d'attaque pour la victoire, la table est mise pour de bonnes compétitions, avec du son et de la « rod » comme les vintages ont habitué les amateurs de belles voitures des années 1972 et antérieures  à assister au cours des 8 dernières saisons.

 

Les voitures de la série PASS, les Sportsman Lucas Oil et les divisions locales de Montmagny seront également en piste lors de cette soirée remplie d'action.

Bryan Mercer Schedules his First Peterborough Speedway Start of the Year

Of all the drivers to earn an Earl Ireland Auto Sales Late Model feature win at Peterborough Speedway during the 2014 campaign, one name has been noticeably absent from competition this season.

 

By this time last year, Bryan Mercer had recorded a pair of main event victories and finished 11th in points at Canada's Toughest 3rd of a Mile Paved Oval in car he confessed wasn't prepared as well as it could have been. After spending much of the 2015 season serving as coach and mentor for his son Jacob's go kart racing endeavors, the 42 year old from Port Hope, Ontario has plans to make his first start of the calendar Saturday, August 15th during the Toonie Spectator Grandstand Admission/Fan Appreciation Night at Peterborough Speedway. Mercer says even though it's late in the year, the timing is right to get started.

 

"It isn't that I haven't wanted to be at the track every week, there just wasn't time to put everything together to make sure we could run competitively," admitted the driver who has an impressive resume that includes a 2011 win in Kawartha Speedway's Summer Sizzler and a pair of starts in the American-Canadian Tour Invitational event at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

 

"Right now, we're looking to make a handful of starts at Peterborough and also run with the Pro Late Model division at the Autumn Colours Classic, where we've had some decent runs, including a trio of top 4 finishes. Depending on how things go during the balance of the season, we'll run full-time again in 2016 and possibly do some travelling to different tracks."

 

Bryan Mercer will take the green flag in his familiar black #81 Chevrolet SS, with chassis upgrades by McColl Racing Enterprises and a GM Crate powerplant under the hood. For his late season charge, Mercer is pleased to have the support of long-time sponsors Sine's Flooring, Durmach Tooling, Cressman Tree Maintenance, Beyond Signs & Design and UAP Napa Auto Parts, Port Hope back in the fold. The team will also welcome new marketing partners Facility Services and Wakely Disposal.

M-A CAMIRAND: UN PREMIER DÉPART POUR NDS MOTORSPORTS ET EN SÉRIE NASCAR K&N

Quelle belle nouvelle que de lire le nom de Marc-Antoine Camirand sur la liste des participants de l'épreuve NASCAR K&N Pro Series East à la piste de Watkins Glen.

Marc-André, le spécialiste du Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières, participe depuis deux saison en NASCAR Canadian Tire Series pour White Motorsports.  C'est là que le chef d'équipe et gérant du programme stock-car chez NDS Motorsports, Steve Hibbard, là remarqué.

"Marc-Antoine est un pilote très talentueux.  Ont cherchait un pilote capable d'inscrire une victoire.  En plus, l'expérience qu'il possède en NCTS lui a fait connaître les pneus qu'il aura sous la voiture en K&N, un atout important surtout considérant que ce sera son tout premier départ" déclara Hibbard que nous avons rejoint par téléphone.

L'équipe NDS Motorsports numéro 53, qui a été connu pour ses succès avec Andrew Ranger, a préféré le pilote de St-Léonard-d'Ashton.  Si le chef d'équipe n'a pas voulu élaborer sur les raisons, une simple recherche sur facebook a permis de comprendre que le tout remonte à l'épreuve de camionette NASCAR Camping World à Mosport en 2014 et comporte un volet financier.  Le nerf de la guerre en sport automobile.

La petite, mais fort réputable, équipe du Vermont sera appuyée à Watkins Glen par Children of Fallen Patriots, un collège pour les enfants des soldats qui ont tombé au combat.


Il n'est pas exclus de faire d'autres épreuves avec Camirand en NASCAR K&N ou encore dans un des autres bolide à la disposition de l'équipe.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Aug. 5, 2015) – The NASCAR K&N Pro Series East visits famed road course Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International on Friday. Below is a statistical look at the historical performance of the series at Watkins Glen and of the series drivers.

Bully Hill Vineyards 125 Setup:
·         Friday night's event will be the series second race at Watkins Glen International since 2009 and the 16th visit to the track since 1993.
·      Scott Heckert is the only previous race winner scheduled to compete in the Bully Hill Vineyards 125.
·      Six drivers from other NASCAR series have entered to run at Watkins Glen with the K&N Pro Series East, including: Cole Custer (NASCAR Camping World Trucks), Daniel Hemric (NCWTS), Kevin O'Connell (NASCAR XFINITY Series), Marc-Antoine Camirand (NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1), Eddie Cheever III (NASCAR Whelen Euro Series) and Dylan Lupton (NXS).
·      NASCAR K&N Pro Series West points leader Noah Gragson will be making his K&N East debut at Watkins Glen on Friday.
·      Championship points leader William Byron will be making his second start on a road course. He ran in the K&N West race at Sonoma (Calif.) Raceway and finished fifth after starting second. He currently holds a 25-point advantage over Scott Heckert heading into the final five events of the season.
 
Watkins Glen International:
History
·         Established by law student Cameron Argetsinger in 1948 on the streets of Watkins Glen, New York.
·Competition moved to a temporary course in 1953, and 2.3-mile permanent circuit was built in 1956.
·         In 1992, the back straightaway was reconfigured, adding an inner loop that increased the length of the long course to 3.4-miles and the short course to 2.45-miles.
·         Held its first NASCAR race in 1957, won by Buck Baker in what is now the Sprint Cup Series.
·         The first NASCAR K&N Pro Series East event was held in 1993 and was won by Billy Dragon.
·         The International Speedway Corporation became the sole proprietor in 1997.
 
Notebook
·         The K&N Pro Series East has held 15 events at Watkins Glen since 1993.
·         There have been 12 different series event winners at Watkins Glen. Bryan Wall, Andy Santerre and Ted Christopher each have two wins at the track.
·Eleven drivers have won pole awards at Watkins Glen. Curtis Markham and Dale Quarterley are the only drivers with more than one pole award at the track with two each. The field has been set by the rule book on two occasions.
·         Scott Heckert is the only race winner scheduled to compete this weekend at Watkins Glen.

·         Has three tops 10s and a best result of third in nine Canadian Tire Series road course starts.
 
Eddie Cheever III (No. 99 BMR Toyota)
·         Is making his K&N Pro Series debut at Watkins Glen.
·         Is ranked second in the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series Elite I standings after earning one win, four top-five and eight top-10 finishes.
·         Three of his four Euro Series wins have been at road courses, Valencia (April 2015), Magione (September 2014) and Brands Hatch (June 2014).
·         He has won two Euro Series poles at road courses, Magione (September 2014) and Brands Hatch (2014).
 
Cole Custer (No. 00 Carlyle Tools/HAAS Automation Toyota)
·         This will be his first K&N East start of the season and his 22nd series start overall.
·         In his only start at Watkins Glen (2014) he finished 16th.
·         His average road course finish in the K&N East is 18.
 
Noah Gragson (No. 7 AlertID Ford)
·         Will be making his K&N East debut.
·         Leads the K&N West standings after earning one win, five top fives and seven top 10s.
·         In his only road course start, Sonoma Raceway in June, he finished seventh after starting 12th.
 
Dylan Lupton (No. 55 JPR Ford)
·         Will be making his K&N East debut and his first K&N Pro Series start of the season.
·         In 32 K&N West starts he has recorded two wins, 13 top-five and 26 top-10 finishes.
·         In his two road course starts at Sonoma (Calif.) Raceway, he finished eighth and third.
 
Kevin O'Connell (No. 37 Spraker Chevrolet)
·         This will be his first K&N Pro Series East start.
·         Has four starts in the K&N Pro Series East, including two at Sonoma where he finished 15th (2007) and 20th (2008)
·         In six NASCAR XFINITY Series starts he has earned one top-five finish.
·         With his participation in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series season-opener this year at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, he became the first driver to compete in each of NASCAR's three international series. He previously competed in the Euro Series at Brands Hatch and the NASCAR Mexico Series at Phoenix International Raceway.
