ASE 29 aout: Robin Wood comme un "Pro"

Huitième programme de "Stock-Car" 2015 de l'ASE, soirée "Perry Performance & Compétition, présenté par les entreprises "Bernard MNJ", aura sans aucun doute été l'affaire de Robin Wood. Définitivement, l'Américain est de plus en plus à l'aise sur le tracé de l'Autodrome St-Eustache. Eric Gagnon, dont le principal partenaire commercial est l'un des commanditaires de la soirée n'est pas en reste et offre une solide performance en terminant deuxième.

Parti d'aussi loin que la neuvième place d'une grille comptant vingt compétiteurs, l'Américain Robin Wood #61, aura donné toute une leçon de pilotage aux autres compétiteurs et spectateurs présents à l'Autodrome St-Eustache samedi dernier. Tel un chirurgien, profitant au passage d'une relance ainsi que de retardataires, Wood aura utilisé avec dextérité et patience son bistouri pour s'emparer de la pôle au 45em tour de cette épreuve de 50 passages. Une première victoire cette saison pour le #61 qui au passage, gâche quelque peu une soirée qui s'annonçait parfaite pour le #7 de Eric Gagnon, courant devant plus d'une centaine de ses partisans, et principal partenaire, de l'entreprise "Bernard MNJ". Gagnon termine tout de même deuxième, alors que Alain Bougie #05 monte quant à lui sur la dernière marche du podium. Certainement l'une des plus belles course de la saison, alors que ce n'est pas moins de quatre meneurs différents qui auront tour à tour occupé la position de tête. Alexandre Jeannotte #64A et le meneur au championnat, André Sylvain #4Jr. complète le "Top-5". Sylvain Comptant #47, Jonathan "Jo" Mayer #18 et Alain Bougie #05 l'avaient emporté lors de leurs vagues respectives de qualification.

Série Nascar Sport-Compacte M.R.Q.

Victime d'un incident de course lors du dernier programme et accusant un retard de16pts sur le meneur au championnat, Yannick Miron #90 se présentait à l'Autodrome avec la ferme intention de remettre les pendules à l'heure. Prenant le départ de la troisième position sur la grille après avoir remporté sa vague de qualification, Miron aura tôt fait de s'installer aux avant-postes de cette épreuve de 30 tours. Faisant cavalier seul, ce dernier laissera Robin Harrisson #3 et Maxime Gauvreau #95, batailler fort pour respectivement terminer deuxième et troisième. Yannick Thibeault #72, ainsi que Stéphane Gauvreau #68 complète le "Top-5". L'autre préliminaire fut remporté par le #01 de Philippe Laporte.

Au plus fort du championnat 2015 de la série Sport-Compacte, Yannick Miron #90 remporte sa troisième victoire de la présente campagne en dominant l'épreuve de 30 passages.

Série Nascar légende Modifiée:

Si plusieurs anticipaient déjà une saison parfaite pour le #7 de Steve Côté, un revirement lors du 29em passages d'une épreuve prévue de trente tours en surprendra plus d'un. Alors que Côté bataillait ferme afin de prendre la première place à un récalcitrant Lucien Campeau Jr. #90, les deux pilotes se retrouvent en pleine circulation causée par des retardataires. L'inévitable ce produit, un contact entre tout ce beau monde dans le droit arrière, enverra les deux prétendants en dérapage offrant ainsi sur un plateau d'argent, et après inspection, une première victoire en finale, et ce, depuis des lunes, à nul autre que Mario Grenon #27. Denis Forgues #82 et Stéphane Caron #99 l'accompagnent sur le podium, alors que François Verville #56, ainsi que Denis Patenaude #20, complète le "Top-5". Caron, Côté et Verville, l'avait au préalable emporté lors des qualifications.

Incidents de courses et pénalités offriront une victoire inattendue au sympathique Mario Grenon #27. Un gain d'autant plus méritoire, puisque ce dernier cumule la plupart du temps, les responsabilités de, pilote, chef d'équipe, mécanicien et préparateur. Bref, l'une de ces grosses équipes de... Un membre. Bravo "M'sieur" Grenon, comme quoi assiduité, courtoisie, patience et travail acharné sont parfois récompensés.

358 Modifiés:

Moins nombreux que lors du dernier programme, les spectateurs auront tout de même eu droit de voir en piste les principaux ténors de cette série en plein développement à l'ASE s'affronter pour une épreuve de 30 passages. Alors qu'il se joignait au groupe en mi-saison, Chris Rabee #01, remporte une autre victoire aux dépens des Roger Labrèche Jr. #100 et Chris Cayea #18. Deux victoires en autant de soirées pour le multiple champion originaire de Napanee Ontario, puisque ce dernier l'avait aussi emporté la veille sur le tracé du "Mohawk International Raceway". Maxime Vien #25 ainsi que Dexter Stacey #55 complète le "Top-5", alors que le #100 de Labrèche l'avait emporté lors de la qualification.

Série Challenge-4 Meilleur Ramoneur:

Prenant le départ à l'intérieur de la deuxième ligne, c'est Jimmy Lee Chagnon #160, qui s'empare des commandes de cette épreuve de trente passages, et ce, dès le premier tour. Intraitable, le pilote de Mirabel laissera derrière lui la vingtaine d'autres compétiteurs offrir le spectacle alors qu'à la mi-course il s'est déjà forgé une insurmontable avance. Au final, Keven Huet Ouellet #05 et Guillaume Dinelle #03 combleront l'espace restant sur le podium. Jean-Philippe Duguay #18, et Cédrick Fauteux #52 complètent le "Top-5". Fauteux, Chagnon et Huet Ouellet l'avaient aussi emporté lors des qualifications. À noter, la dernière présence en série Challenge-4 de Cédrick Fauteux #52, en effet, au moment de taper ces lignes, le pilote de Mascouche aurait déjà cédé sa monture et fait l'acquisition d'une voiture de série Sport-Compacte ayant affiché, à une époque lointaine, le #13. Serait-il possible de le revoir en piste lors du dernier programme de la saison, question de tester son nouveau bolide?

À cette occasion, nos trois séries Nascar, les 358 Modifiés, ainsi que la série de développement Challenge 4 seront en piste pour combler les amateurs de courses de la grande région métropolitaine.

GLEN LUCE OF TURNER CLAIMS $30,000-PLUS VICTORY IN 42nd ANNUAL AIM OXFORD 250

 

Oxford, Maine – Glen Luce of Turner scored an emotional victory, and a $30,000-plus payday, in Sunday's 42nd Annual AIM Recycling USA Oxford 250 at Oxford Plains Speedway.

 

For Luce, who once finished second to NASCAR star Kevin Harvick in the annual classic, it was not only a career highlight, but a dream come true for someone who grew up at the historic Maine racetrack.

 

After drawing a dead-last starting spot in his heat race, Luce worked his way into fourth place, earning the 22nd starting position in the 250.  Twice he worked his way into contention before pitting for tires, first for a pair, later for a full, fresh set.

 

After outgunning Berwick's Joey Doiron for the lead, Luce outran Manchester teenager Reid Lanpher to the checkered flag.  For both Luce and Lanpher it was a career-best PASS Super Late Model finish, coming in the biggest-paying race of the year.

 

Luce and Lanpher were chased to the checkered flag by Ben Lynch, a New Hampshire native now living in North Carolina.  Six-time PASS North Super Late Model champion Johnny Clark of Farmingdale ended up in fourth position.  The top five was filled out by 50-lap last chance race winner Joey Polewarczyk, Jr., who started the 250-lapper in 34th position.

 

Cassius Clark earned a sixth-place finish in the Rollie MacDonald 13.  Wayne Helliwell, Jr ended up in seventh after leading more than half the race, earning a hefty bonus in lap leader awards.  Helliwell also turned in the fastest lap of the race.  Rounding out the top ten were Corey Bubar of Windham, David Oliver of Standish and East Parsonsfield's Trevor Sanborn.

 

Evan Armington of Lovell won the 25-lap race for OPS Mods on Saturday night and then backed that up with a 40-lap victory for PASS Modified tour points on Sunday afternoon in the Pro All Stars Series lone open-wheel series.

 

Armington was chased under the checkered flag by reigning series champion Andy Shaw of Center Conway, New Hampshire, driving the Sumner Sessions 0.  Jimmy Emerson of Windham led the early stages of the race, finishing up in third position.  Ryan Robbins of Dixfield and Newburgh's Scott Alexander rounded out the top five.

 

Josh Childs of Oxford won for the second straight night in Allen's Coffee Flavored Brandy Street Stock competition, outrunning Bryce Mains of Naples to the checkered flag.  Dan Brown of Peru earned the third-place trophy, in front of Turner's Calvin Rose, Jr. and David Whittier of Poland.

 

Ryan Kuhn of East Bridgewater, Massachusetts raced to his first-ever INEX Legends Cars win.  Kuhn outgunned Jolicure, New Brunswick competitor Corey Hall for the victory, with Hall claiming runner-up honors after leading most of the 25-lapper.  Nicholas Naugle of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia finished third for the second straight night at OPS.  Early race leader Austin Teras of Windham ended up in fourth place, followed by Emily Meehan of Rawdon Gold Mines, Nova Scotia.

 

David Cook of Livermore Falls started from the pole and led all the way in a special, 50-lap race for the MacDonald Motors Runnin' Rebel class.  Kyle Hewins of Leeds won an entertaining, race-long battle for runner-up honors with the winner's brother, Derek Cook of Livermore Falls.  Matthew Mahar of Buckfield and Auburn's Cody Childs rounded out the top five in an event with a lot of paint-swapping throughout the top ten.

Mini Stock racer Bradford sets new consecutive win record for asphalt track

WEST HAVEN, VT – Stock car racing's youth movement took a back seat at Devil's Bowl Speedway on Friday, September 4, as the elder statesmen showed the way.  Leon Gonyo drove to his fourth win of the season to highlight the Heritage Family Credit Union "Member Night" program for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series presented by Yandow Sales & Service and John Deere.  Other winners included Bobby Therrien, Robert Gordon, and Chuck Bradford, though all results in all divisions have been deemed unofficial pending technical inspection and review.

Driving a car with the familiar number 4 on its doors, Chazy, NY veteran Gonyo blasted away from the field to grab his fourth Bond Auto Parts Modified victory of the year in the 30-lap main event.  Rookie Bob Kilburn had the best showing of his freshman year by leading the first 11 laps before the race's lone caution period, after which Gonyo seized the lead and cruised to an easy win.

Ron Proctor of Charlton, NY survived a scare when his car dipped its right-side tires off the backstretch early in the race but rebounded to finish second, with Vince Quenneville Jr. of Brandon, VT third.  Kilburn held on for a career-best fourth-place finish with Jimmy Ryan fifth. At 49 years old, Quenneville was the youngest driver among the top five finishers.

Proctor was able to inch his point lead out over Quenneville, stretching the gap from just two points to a still-razor-thin margin of five points (802-779) entering twin 50-lap features at the Mekkelsen RV Vermont 200 Championship Weekend season finale on September 12-13.

Bobby Therrien of Hinesburg, VT scored a meaningful victory in the 30-lap Central Vermont Motorcycles Late Model feature, running to an uncontested romp for his second win of the year.  Therrien's early season success seemed to run out in mid-July, but a convincing second win provided relief.  Therrien took the lead away from Chad White at lap 10, then stormed off up front.  He was tested only once with four laps remaining at the race's only restart, but quickly drove away.

Seventeen year-old Walter Hammond of Canaan, NH continued his strong late-season push with his second runner-up finish in three weeks after a long duel with Chris Bergeron, who slipped off the track on the final lap.  Seth Bridge of Mendon, VT landed on the podium for the first time in his three-year Late Model career in third place.  Todd Stone took fourth with Robert Bryant Jr. fifth.

Josh Masterson of Bristol, VT – who finished sixth – maintains a 49-point lead over Bryant (658-609) entering the 100-lap finale on September 13.

Robert Gordon of Milton, VT led every circuit of the 15-lap Brileya's Chrysler-Jeep Renegade feature to earn his seventh win of the season, but had company over the final two laps from runner-up Jimmy Bushey.  The Mooers Forks, NY racer chased Gordon down and reached his rear bumper but ran out of time before he could make a move.  Scott FitzGerald of West Rutland, VT finished third.

Gordon holds a 37-point cushion on FitzGerald (712-675) as they approach the 50-lap championship finale at the Vermont 200 Weekend.

Chuck Bradford of Addison, VT set a new record for consecutive victories at the Devil's Bowl Speedway asphalt half-mile, which opened in 2010.  Bradford took down the 15-lap Portland Glass Mini Stock feature win for his sixth-straight score, breaking a tie with fellow Mini Stock racer Chris LaVair, who won five in a row earlier in the summer, and former Renegade racer Jon Miller, who first set the mark in the track's first year.

Bradford reeled John McCarron in over the final laps, leading for the first time in the race with just two circuits remaining.  McCarron settled for second place with LaVair third, Kyle Sorensen fourth, and Kris Clark fifth.  LaVair has a comfortable 44-point advantage on Bradford (697-653) entering the finale.

Former Renegade champion Richie Turner of Fairfax, VT defeated former Mini Stock driver Garrett Given of Shoreham, VT in the "Street-Legal Spectator Races" to close out the evening.  Turner's 2003 Ford Focus beat Given's 2007 Mazda 3 in a two-lap final round.

Heritage Family Credit Union members enjoyed the racing program free of charge, while nearly 50 young fans age nine and under collected $100 worth of pennies in the Thomas Dairy Kids Club "Penny Drop" on the frontstretch of the race track during intermission.

Devil's Bowl Speedway's asphalt racing season draws to a close on Saturday 12-13 with the Mekkelsen RV Vermont 200 Championship Weekend.  First-round qualifying and special non-winners event highlight "Shootout Saturday" on September 12, followed by the annual bonfire and barbeque party.  "Championship Sunday" on September 13 will see twin 50-lap Modified races, a 100-lap Late Model feature, a 50-lap Renegade tilt, a two-segment Mini Stock run, and a 50-lap go for the MFT Sauce & Rub Enduro Series.

Two-day general admission is $25, while the single Saturday-only ticket is $10, and the single Sunday-only ticket is $20.  Kids age 12 and under will be admitted free all weekend.  Weekend pit area admission is $40, and camping is free all weekend (no hookups).  Pit gates open at 9:00 a.m. both days, grandstands open at 11:00 a.m., and racing is at 1:30 p.m.

Victoire à l'arraché d'Alex Labbé à Montmagny

Montmagny, le 6 septembre 2015 - Alex Labbé a signé une autre brillante victoire en série ACT Québec, samedi, alors qu'il a eu le meilleur dans une lutte très serrée, au terme du Montmagny 150, à l'Autodrome Montmagny. Le pilote de Saint-Albert a été fort en fin de course pour remporter par une demi-longueur de voiture seulement sa quatrième victoire cette saison avec l'équipe n°48 Larue Motorsports.

Septième sur la grille de départ après avoir remporté sa manche de qualifications, Alex Labbé a réussi à remonter le peloton rapidement au terme de nombreuses petites batailles. C'est toutefois la lutte avec Donald Theetge qui a animé le reste de la course. 

Ayant dû concéder la tête à son concurrent, le pilote de 22 ans s'est retrouvé en deuxième place avec quelques tours à faire. Labbé a talonné sans relâche le vétéran de Boischatel en fin de course et a profité d'une légère erreur de son rival pour plonger à l'intérieur de lui.

« Avec deux tours à faire, la voiture de Donald a surviré un peu, tout juste assez pour que j'aie l'occasion de prendre cette ouverture. On a fait le reste de la course côte-à-côte, et j'ai passé le drapeau à damiers avec une avance d'une demi-longueur de voiture », s'est réjoui le pilote de la voiture n°48 Larue Équipements de déneigement.

Le pilote était naturellement satisfait de visiter le cercle des vainqueurs, après la déception rencontrée il y a deux semaines au Riverside Speedway de Sainte-Croix. « Nous avions connu quelques difficultés à notre dernière course, mais nous sommes revenus davantage aux réglages de base. L'équipe Larue Motorsports m'a préparé une très bonne voiture ce soir (samedi) », a ajouté le pilote.

Le jeune homme signe ainsi une quatrième victoire en sept départs en série ACT Québec. « Nous connaissons une autre excellente saison, après avoir remporté le championnat de la série l'an dernier. Malheureusement, je ne suis plus dans la course au championnat puisque j'ai manqué deux courses en raison de conflits d'horaire avec la série NASCAR Canadian Tire. Sinon, je crois bien que je serais un candidat sérieux au championnat encore une fois cette année », a conclu Alex Labbé. 

Le pilote de Saint-Albert sera de retour en action dès samedi prochain alors que la série ACT Québec se déplace du côté de l'Autodrome Chaudière de Vallée-Jonction. La fin de saison s'annonce chargée pour Labbé, lui qui devrait être présent dans cinq courses ACT, autant au Québec qu'au nord-est des États-Unis.

Dominic Jacques; champion 2015 




C'est ce samedi le 5 septembre 2015 que s'est tenu le dernier programme de la saison de la Série Sportsman Qc Lucas Oil à l'Autodrome Montmagny.

Avec un championnat des plus serré, on sentait la nervosité chez les meneurs au classement. Rien n'était joué avant ce programme. 

Les deux séances de qualification ont été remportées par le #7 Réjean Blanchet de Québec et par le #33 Philippe Poulin de St-Georges de Beauce. Quant aux deux meneurs au championnat, le #67 Dominic Jacques et le #17 Jimmy Nadeau, 14 points les distançaient toujours après la séance de qualification donnant l'avance à Jacques, ayant tous deux terminé 3e dans leur qualification respective. 

Le départ s'est donné avec en tête le #7 Réjean Blanchet avec à ces côtés le #33 Philippe Poulin suivi du #67 Dominic Jacques et du #17 Jimmy Nadeau. Une finale qui nous aura amené les plus belles luttes de la saison.  

Le #7 Réjean Blanchet a conservé sa position de tête pour la quasi-totalité de la course. Avec une solide performance, résistant à la pression de ses adversaires, Blanchet a piloté la voiture avec brio en gardant le focus et ne commettant aucune erreur. C'est donc au pilote de Québec, commandité principalement par Canadian Tire Lebourgneuf, que revient la victoire du dernier programme. Blanchet remporte ainsi sa 4e victoire de la saison. 

Tous les yeux étaient rivés sur le pilote de Vallée-Jonction, le #67 Dominic Jacques commandité par Centre de l'Auto Vallée-Jonction. Bien qu'il avait toujours son avance de 14 points sur le #17 Jimmy Nadeau, rien n'était gagné. Il suffisait d'une malchance et le championnat lui filait entre les mains. Et il en fallut de peu… Juste avant le fil d'arrivée, au dernier tour, un accrochage important est survenu avec le #54 Jean D'Amours endommageant sérieusement la voiture de Jacques. Avec un morceau de tôle dans la roue, Jacques est parvenu à passer la ligne d'arrivée en 2e position. C'est pas moins de 10 tops 5 en 10 programmes que l'équipe #67 a réussi cette saison! 

Le #25 Pier-Luc Labbé qui avait remporté lors du dernier programme sa première victoire de la saison a réalisé une performance à couper le souffle hier. Partant en 8e position lors de la finale, c'est un pilote confiant et saisissant toutes les opportunités qui a monté les positions une à une. Une course qui a été à l'image de sa saison; détermination, volonté et patience. Il a offert aux spectateurs présents un excellent spectacle avec des dépassements audacieux, mais dans un respect exemplaire. C'est en 3e position que le pilote de St-Joseph commandité par Labbé Motor Sport termine le programme; un 4e podium cette saison pour Labbé. 

Livrant bataille aux meneurs et vacillant entre la 2e et la 4eposition, le #17 Jimmy Nadeau a tout donné pour monter sur le podium pour ce programme. Le pilote de Beauceville, commandité par Lucas Oil, aura réussi avec sa 4e place en final et ainsi à conserver sa 2e position au classement général. 

Dominic Jacques; nouveau champion de la Série Sportsman Qc 

Avec sa performance d'hier, le #67 Dominic Jacques a confirmé sa victoire pour le championnat de fin de saison. Avec 7 podiums dont 2 victoires, terminant chacun des programmes dans le top 5  en plus de battre le record de piste à l'Autodrome Saint-Félicien et sur le circuit routier du GP3R, Dominic Jacques devient le 9e pilote à remporter le titre de Champion de la Série Sportsman Qc Lucas Oil donnant ainsi à son constructeur, Mac Rod Shop le titre de constructeur de l'année. 

Mickaël Isabelle; recrue de l'année 

Le #95 Mickaël Isabelle qui avait repris pour cette saison, la voiture et le numéro de son défunt parrain, Steve Lesage avait comme objectif premier de remporter le titre de recrue de l'année. Mission accomplie pour le pilote de Shannon. Isabelle, commandité principalement par Garage Gilles Hamel, a persévéré tout au long de la saison, entouré par une équipe impliquée et expérimentée. Malgré plusieurs embûches, l'équipe #95 Lesage-Isabelle n'a jamais baissé les bras et c'est grâce à cette détermination et la progression remarquée tout au long de la saison du pilote que le #95 Mickaël Isabelle remporte le titre de recrue de l'année. Une page s'est tournée avec ce programme; Isabelle sera de retour l'an prochain, mais cette fois, avec son propre numéro. 

Il est important de souligner que ces résultats sont toujours non officiels étant donné la saisie du pneu droite sur les 5 premières voitures en finale lors du programme d'hier. 

C'est le 17 octobre prochain, lors du banquet de fin de saison que la Série Sportsman Qc remettra les honneurs à ces pilotes. Un dernier rendez-vous pour la saison 2015.

Bisson champion de la Triple Couronne OricomInternet

C'est ce samedi, 5 septembre qu'avait lieu à l'Autodrome Montmagny, la dernière manche de la Triple Couronne Oricom Internet. 

Pour cette 3e étape, 18 pilotes se sont déplacés dont la majorité avait participé aux deux étapes précédentes. 

Deux séances de qualifications ont eu lieu avec les positions déterminées par une pige. 

Partant en 1ere position lors de la première finale, le #72 Louis-Philippe Lauzier de St-Pacôme a une fois de plus démontré ses talents de pilotage en remportant sa qualification. Résistant à la pression du #98 Pascal Turgeon de Montmagny ainsi que du #75 Steve Godbout, le pilote qui en est à sa deuxième saison en Sport Compact Élite a une fois de plus confirmé son avenir prometteur en stock-car. 

La deuxième séance de qualification a été remportée par le #26 Martin Bisson de Sts-Anges. S'élançant en 7e position, rien n'était gagné pour Bisson. Se pointant au bon endroit au bon moment, il a su remonter le peloton pour remporter cette qualification. 

Malchance pour Steve Godbout

Le #75 Steve Godbout a mené la quasi-totalité de ces 50 tours. Accédant assez rapidement à la tête du peloton, le pilote de Québec commandité par Létourneau Service de Pneu était, avant ce programme en deuxième position du classement de la Triple Couronne. Malheureusement pour le pilote, à quelques tours de la fin, un bris mécanique est survenu sur la voiture le reléguant à la fin du peloton. 

Quant au #26 Martin Bisson, commandité par Transport Richard Bisson, il a effectué encore une fois une remontée spectaculaire lors de la finale menant une chaude lutte à Godbout en piste. Suite à cette malchance de ce dernier, il a pris la tête du peloton remportant ainsi la victoire de la course et devenant ainsi le champion de la Triple Couronne. 

En plus de remporter la victoire en séance de qualification, le #72 Louis-Philippe Lauzier commandité par Garage Gaston Dubé a été aussi constant en finale. Il termine en 2eposition en finale et accède ainsi à la 2e marche du podium pour le championnat de la Triple Couronne

Le #23 Sébastien Poulin de Plessisville complète le podium pour la finale de ce programme. Commandité principalement par Automobile Carrier, Poulin remporte son premier podium de la saison. 

Quant au championnat de la Triple Couronne, c'est le #17 Maxime Gagné qui accède à la 3e manche du podium. Le pilote de Montmagny, commandité par Grues R. Gagné a pris le départ en deuxième position et il a tout fait pour résister à la pression et maintenir sa position. Il termine le programme en 5e position. C'est sans aucun doute sa stabilité lors des 3 programmes qui lui aura valu ce podium ! 

Soulignons sur place la présence de Mme Roxanne Pelletier, représentante d'Oricom Internet. 

Prochain et dernier rendez-vous pour notre classe Sport Compact Élite le 12 septembre prochain à l'Autodrome Chaudière alors que les pilotes effectueront un dernier 40 tours qui déterminera le champion 2015 de la classe. Un rendez-vous à ne pas manquer en plus du combo PASS/ACT de 200 tours chacun.

With the 2015 track titles on the line, Peterborough Speedway wrapped-up the regular season of action – Saturday, September 5th – with the Championship Clash. Drivers in the Battlefield Equipment Rental 4Fun, Mini Stock, Renegade Truck, Paul Davis Systems Thunder Car and Earl Ireland Auto Sales Late Model divisions looked for every advantage that would help improve their overall point position in the season standings. The show also included the OSCAAR Outlaw Super Late Models.

 

Donovan Price and Ryan Carr brought the Mini Stock field to the Great Canadian RV Green Flag to kick-off feature race action. Price – who enjoyed a strong season that included his first Mini Stock feature win – was in control of things for much of the event, but James Townsend moved into second spot with 13 laps on the scoreboard. As lapped traffic came into play, others closed on the leader and Price was forced into the outside line. After technical inspection, the first 5 across the line were Townsend, Tyler Junkin, Price, Carr and Kevin Strutt. Unofficially, Tyler Junkin is the 2015 Mini Stock track champion.

 

Heading into their final feature event of the season, Jordan Dallin and his brother Jack – the defending track champion – paced the pack of pick-ups from the pits for the Renegade Truck 'A' main. The inside line got a jump on the field from the green flag, but the championship battle took a dramatic turn when Tim Burke, the truck division's most recent feature winner was black flagged for a fuel leak. Jack Dallin held on for the race win and earned his second consecutive championship. Chris Burrage and Bill O'Hara Jr. followed Dallin across the stripe.

 

Sean Kennedy and Matthew Vanderbelt led the Battlefield Equipment Rental 4Fun teams to the line. With a starting grid of 23 drivers, there was action everywhere in the field. Vanderbelt used the outside line to get a jump on the pack and looked to be on his way to another checkered flag. A lap 15 yellow flag – when Jeremy Kelly got into the leader – could've moved both cars to the back but under the gentleman's rule, Kelly accepted responsibility for the incident and the #69 got his spot back. Kennedy would be next to challenge for the spot and grabbed the win. Vanderbelt, Tiffany Vandebelt, Ryan Oosterholt and Marilyn Junkin chased Kennedy to the line. With his 4th place finish, Oosterholt is unofficially the 4Fun champion.

 

With 25 laps on the table, Amanda Connolly and Mike Wallace were the front row starters for the Earl Ireland Auto Sales Late Model headline dance. Wallace grabbed a quick lead and led a 4 car breakaway through the early stages. With some exciting action throughout the pack, the caution-free feature saw Wallace park in Dart Heating & Air Conditioning Victory Lane for his first career Late Model win. Connolly, Ryan Kimball, Dave Morgan and Rick Walt completed the top 5 finishers. Unofficially, Morgan is the 2015 Late Model champ.

 

Veteran Steve Mayhew and Rob Richards showed the Paul Davis Systems Thunder Car runners the way to the stripe for their final feature event of the regular season. With barely a lap on the scoreboard, the yellow flag flew when Richards was sent spinning after a hit from behind by Fidelle DiBello. The driver of the #61 took the blame for the incident, giving Richards his position back for the restart. Luke Gignac overtook Mayhew for the top spot and never looked back. Tyler Liscum, Howie Crowe, Anthony DiBello and Bailey Jacobs followed Gignac to the line. Anthony DiBello clinched his second straight Thunder Car crown.

 

Corey Jones and Shane Gowan occupied the front row for the 50 lap OSCAAR Super Late Model feature event. J.R. Fitzpatrick was a man on the move, taking over 3rd spot with just a trio of laps complete. Lapped traffic came into the picture with 8 laps down and the yellow flag waved for an incident between Gowan and Glenn Watson with 10 circuits on the board. Fitzpatrick was the star of the show, lapping all but the second place finisher for his first career OSCAAR main event win. Kevin Cornelius, Jones, Sean Grossman and Roy Passer rounded-out the top 5. 

 

Earlier in the night, qualifying heats were won by James Townsend, Tyler Junkin, Kevin Strutt and Brandon Hannah in the Mini Stocks; Chris Burrage and Jack Dallin in the Renegade Trucks; Matthew Vanderbelt, Ryan Oosterholt, Brandon Feeney and Sean Kennedy in the Battlefield Equipment Rental 4Fun; Tyler Betts, Rick Walt, Bryan Sudsbury and Mike Wallace in the Earl Ireland Auto Sales Late Models; Anthony DiBello, Tyler Liscum and Rob Richards; Kevin Cornelius. Shawn Chenoweth, Glenn Watson and J.R. Fitzpatrick took the OSCAAR Super Late Model qualifiers. 

 

Bullring bullet points: Murray Sammons of Peterborough took home the 50/50 winner's share of $770.50…After making the long haul from Timmins, Ontario with his #57 Thunder Car, Michael Shumilak suffered mechanical issues during practice and was on his way home without turning a racing lap…After announcing his retirement following a 2014 OSCAAR win, John Owen returned to action behind the wheel of the #55 Earl Ireland Auto Sales Late Model machine…Dave Morgan's son Jack made his second straight start in the Farm Bro Racing 4Fun rental car, while Ottawa Valley racers Steve Munro and Casey Cavanaugh complimented the Late Model and Thunder Car ranks respectively.

 

Action at Peterborough Speedway takes a break until the running of the 23rdAnnual Autumn Colours Classic – presented by Lucas Oil Products – Friday, Saturday and Sunday, October 9th to 11th. The track will host an open practice session – Sunday, September 20th – starting at 11:00.

Championnat de fin de saison plus que serré

C'est ce samedi, 05 septembre que se tiendra le championnat de fin de saison de la Série Sportsman Qc Lucas Oil à l'Autodrome Montmagny.

Les 18 pilotes présents feront un dernier 75 tours où chacune des positions acquises aura une incidence sur le championnat de fin de saison.

Rien n'est gagné pour le meneur actuel du championnat le #67 Dominic Jacques. Avec 14 points d'avance sur le #17 Jimmy Nadeau, il devra réussir une bonne performance s'il veut remporter le titre de champion 2015. Gageons que Nadeau n'a pas dit son dernier mot et se montrera très compétitif, lui qui connait sa meilleure saison en Sportsman Qc.

Le #25 Pier-Luc Labbé a remporté sa première victoire à l'Autodrome Chaudière. Le pilote de Saint-Joseph s'est emparé de la 3e position au classement avec ce podium à 10 points devant le #7 Réjean Blanchet qui n'a pu prendre part à la 2e finale au dernier programme. La lutte est chaude et les pilotes devront faire preuve de discipline et patience pour ne pas commettre d'erreurs.

Le #33 Philippe Poulin, champion défendant de la saison 2014, a connu une saison difficile. N'abandonnant jamais en court de route malgré les malchances, Poulin est actuellement en 5e position à 15 points de Pier-Luc Labbé; tout en encore possible.

Le classement est tout aussi serré pour la 6e et 7e position alors que le #95 Mickaël Isabelle détient seulement 1 point d'avance sur le #4 Stéphane Fournier. L'équipe Fournier Côté,  qui avait très bien performé lors du premier programme de la saison à l'Autodrome Montmagny, mise sur une voiture bien préparée et la stabilité du pilote pour aller chercher la 6e position.

Un dernier programme où tout pourrait changer et qui promet d'être riche en adrénaline.

C'est à ne pas manquer alors que les spectateurs présents verront aussi en piste la série ACT-Procam et ACT-LMS.

The first green flag of the calendar flew nearly 5 months ago and Saturday night, the regular season comes to an end with the final championship event – presented by Tallman Truck Centre – at Brockville Ontario Speedway.

 

After a pair of elimination rounds, the overall championships in the DIRTcar 358 Modified, Sportsman Modified as well as the Street Stock divisions remain up for grabs. Heading into the one night showdown, multi-time track champ Danny O'Brien holds a 30 point advantage of Ryan Arbuthnot. Kyle Dingwall and Stephane Lafrance are also in the hunt. Dylan Evoy has a slight bulge of 22 markers over Sportsman class rookie of the year hopeful Ryan Scott, with Jessica Power and Tristan Draper still in the running. In the Street Stock field, John Gifford has an 87 point cushion ahead of youngster Xavier Andrews. Track owner/promoter Paul Kirkland says that fans are in for an exciting night of action at the popular oval on Temperance Lake Road, north of Brockville.

 

"This is the first year that we've tried the elimination round format and while the set-up still needs some fine-tuning, it's been very successful," said Kirkland. "A strong showing during the regular season put a number of drivers into the hunt, but it'll take an extra effort Saturday night to seal the deal and earn the seat of honour at the championship celebration."  

 

Kirkland says the season-ending shootout will also include the home track 4 cylinder rookie and DIRTcar Rookie Sportsman divisions and will wrap-up with a party after the night's on-track action has concluded. As always, gates will open at 5:00. Time trials for the 358 Mods and Sportsman Modified divisions start around 6:30, with racing underway at 7:00.

 

Brockville Ontario Speedway will host a Fall Monster Endurance event – with classes for men and women – Sunday, September 13th with a 2:00 start.

 

The 2015 season wraps-up with the 1000 Islands RV DIRTcar Northeast Fall Nationals – a Craig Revelle Tribute – presented by St. Lawrence Radiology and Rez X Racing. 258 Modified, Late Model and Street Stock racing takes the spotlight at 7:00 Friday, October 16th. Big Block, Sportsman and Vintage Modified action gets rolling at 4:00Saturday, October 17th. The event is co-sponsored by 103.7 BOB FM, Brockville Recorder & Times and CKWS-TV.
