THUNDER ROAD ANNOUNCES 2010 SCHEDULE

                PRICES WILL REMAIN THE SAME FOR 2010

Waterbury, VT – Thunder Road in Barre, Vermont, has announced their 2010 schedule. Officials of the popular ¼ mile high-banked speedplant, known as the “Nation’s Site of Excitement”, have also announced that prices for the 2010 season will remain the same as 2009. Adult tickets for regular events are $9.50, child tickets are just $3.00, and the popular family ticket for two adults and two kids is just $20.00.






 

The 51st year of stock car racing will open with the 12th Annual Merchants Bank 150 American Canadian Tour (ACT) event on the traditional first weekend in May. The ACT will appear again over Labor Day weekend with the 32nd running of the Bond Auto Labor Day Classic 200.

 

A change in the weekly schedule will take place with the early June dates moving from the traditional Thursday nights to Sunday twilight events. “We have decided to see if our fans and competitors feel that a couple of early season twilight Sunday events might better fit their schedules. Recently, schools seem to be in session longer, and we are hoping that fans might  enjoy the early Sunday regular point events to conclude their weekends in mid-June,” said Director of Administration, Darla Hartt.

 

Special events will still be a big part of the 2010 schedule at Thunder Road. The mighty Modifieds will return to the high banks in a double header with the Thunder Road Late Models during the Mekkelsen Memorial Day Classic weekend. In June, the CARQUEST Vermont Governor’s Cup will lead into the traditional Pepsi fireworks show over the Fourth of July weekend. Fans will see old favorites like the M&M Beverage Enduro 200, and of course, the Times Argus Mid-Season Championships. ACT officials plan to announce a Tiger/Sportsman Tour shortly, and Thunder Road will host the opening 100 lap event in July.

 

Managing partner of Thunder Road, Tom Curley said, “ We had such a tremendous season celebrating our 50th anniversary this past year that we want to continue with some surprises again in 2010. I think our fans will be pleased with our tradition of bringing in a guest appearance to race with our teams, and we look forward to more spectacular championship bids in all our Thunder Road divisions.”

 

The season will conclude with the 48th running of the Chittenden Milk Bowl. The race has been changed from the last weekend in September to the first weekend in October for 2010.

ACT Castrol : Réunion et banquet



Samedi se tiendra, à l'Hôtel Best Western de Drummondville, le 3e banquet ACT Castrol pour mettre un terme sur la saison 2009.

Saturday will be held at the Drummondville Best Western Hotel the 3rd ACT Castrol awards banquet to cap off the 2009 season.





J'aurais le plaisir d'animer la soirée à titre de maître de cérémonies. Un privilège que j'ai depuis l'arrivée de ACT au Québec il y a trois ans. Souper, remise de trophées et bourses, de prix pour la participation (roues Basset et carosserie Five-Star), ainsi que des trophées (pilote le plus amélioré et le gentils homme) décernés par les pairs et le tout est clôturé par une soirée dansante.

I will be the emcee for the evening. A privilege I have had since ACT has sanctioned the Castrol Series 3 years ago. Dinner, trophy presentation, award presentations (Basset wheels, Five-Star body), and other awards (most improved driver and sportsmanship award) as voted by the drivers and team owners and the night is capped off with a dance.

Que nous réserve M. Curley? Plusieurs avaient manifesté des changements. Donald Theetge avait commenté dans la presse écrite que les procédures pour aligner les groupes en qualification et en finale serait un facteur qui l'amènerai à décider s'il reviendrait au Québec ou non en 2010. Est-ce que M. Curley opterait pour la formule + / - qui est utilisée sur le circuit américain?

What as Mr Curley got lined up? Many asked for change. Donald Theetge went on record in the written press as the line up procedures in qualifying and feature races was going to be a determining factor whether he races in Quebec in 2010 or not. As Mr Curley opted for a plus / minus format as is done on the US Tour?

Patrick Laperle quant à lui avait déclaré à Onroule.ca qu'il aimerait voir l'utilisation des transpondeurs électroniques. Passerons-nous des procédures manuelles à celles électroniques?

In an article with Onroule.ca Patrick Laperle was vocal about the use of electronic transponders. Will we move away from manual scoring to electronic scoring?

Plusieurs avaient réclamé des inspections plus strictes afin d'assurer que tous compétitionnaient sur un pied d'égalité. Quelle sera la nouvelle ici?

Many requested more and tuffer inspections in order to ensure a level playing field. What will be announced?

NOUVELLES DE LA SÉRIE PROCAM

C’est devant une vingtaine de personne dans un petit bistro de St-Joseph-du-Lac, Qc que Rhéal Carpentier, président et fondateur de PROCAM, a expliqué les détails du retour de la série de camions en 2010.




Pilotes et préparateurs ont accueilli avec grand enthousiasme l’association de Cummins à titre de partenaire principale avec la série. Messieurs Ron Auclair et Pierre Archambault étaient unanime « nous tenions à être ici pour confirmer notre volonté à appuyer l’équipe PROCAM et à la faire grandir. Il suffit d’y croire. Le chemin peut se faire ensemble.»

Calendrier 2010

« Pour repartir les choses en 2010, nous allons disputer le championnat de six manches à l’Autodrome St-Eustache. Notre objectif est de rebâtir avec du solide » déclara Carpentier.

La série pourra bénéficier des officiels et des infrastructures de l’autodrome, mais elle demeure indépendante et sous la direction de Carpentier. Tous laisse présager que le groupe pourrait se produire ailleurs si la participation et l’intérêt y est.

Au niveau technique, la règlementation des camions demeure sensiblement celle de 2008.

Il y aura cependant une adaptation quant à l’interprétation des moteurs. Ont parlera dorénavant de forces moteurs (330 HP) et non de « recette ».

Des pneumatiques rainurés seront utilisés. « Nous voulons faire une série à juste prix. L’expérience là démontré, les slicks amènent des coûts prohibitifs pour ce que l’ont veut faire » commenta Rhéal Carpentier.

« J’ai l’intention de faire des tours en 2010. Je vais avoir ma légende, je vais participer à ce championnat et faire quelques courses dans l’autre série de camion avec mon nouvel achat » commenta Camile Paquin Jr.

Il vient de compléter l’acquisition du camion qui était la propriété de Max « la menace » Pelletier Le pilote de la région de Shawinigan ajouta « Mon souhait est de ne pas avoir à choisir entre les deux groupe de camion, j’espère qu’ils ne ce placeront pas en conflit »

Les différentes innovations en matière de membership et une dizaine de commanditaires ayant déjà confirmé leurs intérêts à travailler ensemble a permis de confirmer unanimement la participation des pilotes présents.

Tous, Lajoie, Lafrenière, Goulet père et fils, Mathieu, Talbot, Gratton, Paquin Jr, Lévesque, Labonville, etc. croient que la formule est sensée.

Il ne faut pas oublier que le partenariat avec l’Autodrome St-Eustache permet à la série d’opérer « sans overhead » (très faibles coûts). Infrastructures et officiels étant rendu disponibles. « Ils seront même intégré à notre banquet des champions » commenta Yves Ladouceur.

Il ne reste qu’aux pilotes à aligner les camions le 15 mai prochain et qui sait… on verra peut-être les McLean, Hamman et Nadeau se joindre au groupe.

“The worst possible scenario that we could imagine, happened to us today. I crashed the car in qualifying and we didn’t have a spare short oval car, the only spare was a speedway car that was set-up for Homestead next week. Which makes it rough as the car isn’t built for this type of track so we knew that we were going to be lucky to get very many laps in on the race. It was very unfortunate but we knew we could start the race and then we would pretty much have to park it pretty fast since the speedway car has totally different brakes and set-up than the short oval set-up that we need for Phoenix. This was a tough deal. I said to the guys, ‘I don’t know what to say, I don’t know if it was me’ and the bummer is that we didn’t even need to push hard in qualifying because we were locked in already. The car seemed like it had a wheel hop and then I was in the wall in Turn 4. I thought I was through the turn, and then the car just stepped out. I’m not sure if I got too high or what really happened but the rear really started to move on me and then bam, I’m in the wall. I don’t think I’ve ever had that happen. The car wasn’t loose or anything and I wouldn’t have risked it anyway. It was really disappointing. Even though it was my first time on an oval in this car, I adapted quickly and we had a good practice yesterday so this was really unexpected. This was disappointing for everyone that works on the car and I guess sometimes this is the way it goes in racing. It would be nice to have a “do-over” but that doesn’t happen too often. I am just sorry for the guys and hope they have a good weekend in Homestead.”

*Alex Tagliani, qui en était à son deuxième départ de la saison en série Nationwide de NASCAR avec l’équipe MacDonald Motorsports et à son premier départ sur une piste ovale dans cette série, a été contraint à l’abandon au 14e des 200 tours de l’épreuve Able Body Labor 200 disputée samedi sur l’ovale du Phoenix International Raceway en Arizona. Carl Edwards a triomphé devant Kevin Harvick et Reed Sorenson. Kyle Bush, qui a terminé neuvième, domine toujours le classement avec 190 points d’avance sur Edwards.

« La pire chose qui pouvait arriver s’est produite aujourd’hui. J’ai endommagé la voiture durant les qualifications aujourd’hui (samedi) et l’équipe n’avait pas de mulet pour une piste ovale courte. La seule qui était disponible était celle préparée pour la piste de Homestead la semaine prochaine. Cette voiture n’est pas montée pour ce type de circuit et nous savions que nous ne serions pas en mesure de compléter beaucoup de tours. C’est dommage. Tout ce que nous pouvions faire était de prendre le départ et d’entrer aux puits pour la garer car une voiture pour piste ovale longue a un système de freinage totalement différent de celle d’une piste d’un mille comme à Phoenix.

 

« J’ai dit aux gars à la suite de mon accident en qualification, “Je ne sais pas quoi vous dire. Je ne sais pas si c’est moi, mais le pire dans tout cela c’est que je n’avais pas à pousser car la voiture était déjà qualifiée. On dirait qu’une bosse a fait sursauter la voiture. J’ai tout d’abord pensé que j’avais réussi à reprendre le contrôle, mais je me suis retrouvé dans le mur du virage quatre. Je ne sais pas si je suis monté trop haut, mais le derrière a décroché et je me suis retrouvé dans le mur.” Je ne me rappelle pas qu’une telle chose me soit déjà arrivé. La voiture était stable. Je suis tellement désolé pour tout le monde. Même si c’est ma première présence sur une piste ovale dans cette voiture, je me suis rapidement adapté, et lors des essais de vendredi, nous avions amélioré notre temps par plus de cinq dixièmes de seconde. C’est désolant pour toute l’équipe, mais ceci fait partie de la course automobile. J’aurais aimé avoir une seconde chance, mais cela n’arrive pas souvent. J’espère que l’équipe connaîtra un meilleur week-end à Homestead. »

NASCAR Canadian Tire Series 2010 Schedule Announced

· 13 Dates Cover 13 Tracks In Six Provinces

· Season Opens June 5 at Delaware Speedway

· Toronto Date Highlights 2010 Slate




 

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Nov. 14, 2009) – NASCAR announced today the schedule for the fourth season of the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1, which will take the series to some of the top racing facilities throughout Canada.

The schedule features 13 dates at 13 different tracks across six provinces. The slate includes tracks and events familiar to the series, but the addition of a shared date with the Indy Car Series in Toronto is new for 2010.

Andrew Ranger will commence his title defense when the season begins on Saturday, June 5 at Delaware (Ont.) Speedway. The NASCAR Canadian Tire Series made its first visit to the half-mile oval last season at which DJ Kennington, competing on his home track, made his way to Victory Lane for the first time since September 2007. The track is also part of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series.

"This is our fourth year in Canada and the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 just keeps getting better," said George Silbermann, NASCAR's managing director of racing operations. "All of the facilities we visit are top notch which certainly enhances our product. I think the great race fans of Canada will enjoy another exciting season in 2010."

While the schedule has remained consistent since the series' inaugural season in 2007, there have been additions each year to better position the series, drivers and teams in the marketplace. This year's new component to the schedule is a Saturday, July 17 race in Toronto as part of the Toronto Indy weekend. Additionally, the 1.721-mile, 11-turn temporary track on the streets of Toronto also adds a fifth challenging road course to the slate of events.

Once again next season, the annual swing through Western Canada will consist of three dates. However, in a subtle change the order of the stops is different for the upcoming year.

The first western event will take place on Sunday, July 25 on the demanding 1.973-mile Rexall Speedway in Edmonton, Alberta. In a return to the 2008 format, both the Indy Car Series and the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series will race on the same day at the Rexall Edmonton Indy.

From there, the series makes its way to the speedy half-mile tri-oval of SunValley Speedway in Vernon, B.C., on Saturday, July 31. Last season, Ranger earned his first oval-track victory in front of a standing-room-only crowd.

The final stop on the western swing is set for Wednesday, Aug. 4 at Auto Clearing Motor Speedway in Saskatoon, Sask. In 2009, the series made its debut at the track in the first ever NASCAR-sanctioned event in the province of Saskatchewan that sold out weeks in advance. Scott Steckly overcame a blown engine in practice and a start at the rear of the field to collect the historic victory.

The signature event on the schedule takes place on Sunday, Aug. 29 on the legendary Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, a 2.71-mile temporary street course, on Montreal's IÎe Notre Dame. The NASCAR Canadian Tire Series again will join the NASCAR Nationwide Series and Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series for the very popular event. JR Fitzpatrick picked up the win last season to spoil Ranger's bid to win all four road-course events on the 2009 schedule.

In what has become a tradition, the season will close and a new champion will be crowned at Kawartha Speedway, a .375-mile oval near Peterborough, Ont., on Saturday, Sept. 25. Last year, Kennington picked up his fourth series-career win in the event while Ranger celebrated his second title.

Other 2010 highlights include:

* The schedule includes races on eight ovals: Auto Clearing Motor Speedway, Autodrome St. Eustache, Barrie Speedway, Delaware Speedway, Kawartha Speedway, Mosport Speedway, Riverside Speedway and SunValley Speedway; and five road courses: Circuit de Trois-Rivieres, Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, Mosport International Raceway, Rexall Speedway and the temporary street course in Toronto.
* On June 12-13, the series will run at Mosport International Raceway in Bowmanville, Ontario at the facility's 2.459-mile, 10-turn road course. The race is part of an eventful weekend at the 750-acre facility. The series will also visit Mosport's half-mile oval on Saturday, Aug. 21, which is a little later in the calendar than it traditionally has been.
* The popular visit to Quebec's Autodrome St. Eustache is scheduled for Saturday, July 3. A huge crowd is always on hand at the .4-mile flat oval located northwest of Montreal. Steckly won this event last season while Canadian racing hero Jacques Villeneuve made his series debut.
* The Grand Prix de Trois-Rivieres in Quebec is on tap for Aug. 13-15. Last season, Ranger thrilled the fans of his home province with his second straight victory on the 1.53-mile temporary street course. Joining the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series in Trois-Rivieres will be the Grand-Am KONI Sports Car Challenge.
* The Barrie (Ont.) Speedway date is set for Saturday, Sept. 11. Each of the past three trips to Barrie on this weekend has resulted in overflow crowds. The .333-mile tri-oval always produces one of the most exciting and action-filled events of the season.
* The trip east to the Maritime Province of Nova Scotia for a Saturday, Sept. 18 event at Riverside International Speedway is a popular stop for the competitors. Tackling the high-banked turns of the .333-mile scale version of the legendary Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway is always a thrill for both competitors and fans. Ranger collected his sixth win of the season in this event in 2009 to cap off his dominant season.

Alexandre Tagliani (#81 MacDonald Motorsport Dodge) effectuera son premier départ en carrière en NASCAR Nationwide sur oval.

Le Montréalais et vétéran spécialiste des circuits routiers a pris son premier départ en carrière au circuit Gilles-Villeneuve en août dernier pilotant pour le compatriote canadien Randy MacDonald.

Il a terminé 26e. Tagliani a aussi 13 départs à sa fiche en NASCAR Canadian Tire Series depuis 2007; il a remporté à sa première sortie et a capturé deux poles dans les épreuves auquel il a participé cette année.

Un autre canadian, Daryl Harr, est inscrit dans la voiture #31 Fuel-Doctor.com pour Rick Ware Racing. Harr de St-Albert en Alberta, a fait ses classe à Pheonix en avril dernier terminant 37e avec un bris de moteur.

Sa meilleur prestation, 12e, en 71 participation dans le NASCAR Camping World Series West a eu lieu à PIR.

Another Canadian driver, Daryl Harr, is entered in the #31 Fuel-doctor.com Chevy for Rick Ware Racing. Harr, from St. Albert, Alberta, made his series debut at Phoenix in April, finishing 37th due to engine failure.

A career-high 12 of Harr’s 71 starts in the NASCAR Camping World Series West have come at PIR.
