Final 6 Invited to Bond Auto ACT Invitational

Waterbury, VT – As invitations rolled out for the 4th Annual Bond Auto ACT Invitational this week, Late Model teams watched as their competitors and friends were called to the big stage. With the big race just over a week away, the final 6 competitors to fill out the 43-car starting grid have been announced.

 

White Mountain Motorsports Park superstar Quinny Welch has received his invitation to the event, after just missing the podium in 2011 with a fourth place finish. Welch, a former champion of White Mountain Motorsports Park, is confident in his chances.

 

“Our final points race at White Mountain runs right after this race,” said Welch, currently number 2 in the local point standings. “We might miss it though. When I finish on the podium at New Hampshire, I might be there awhile,” he grinned.

 

ACT regular Jimmy Linardy will cut his teeth on the “Magic Mile” as he received his invitation, as well as Canaan Fair Speedway regular Bruce Jaycox. Former NASCAR Busch Series driver Tom Carey, Jr., and former ACT regular Pete Yetman join the list of prestigious candidates, and another local team – that of the Mad River Valley’s Brooks Clark – will take a shot to get into New Hampshire Motor Speedway’s famous victory lane.

 

“This is really the highlight of our year,” said Clark, fresh off a career day at Thunder Road’s Bond Auto Labor Day Classic. “It will be so cool for us -a local team - to say we’ve had the chance to race at the Magic Mile.”

 

The Bond Auto ACT Invitational rolls of on Saturday, September 22 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Post time is 4:30pm .

Competition Tight for ARCA's CGS Imaging Hard Charger Award

(TOLEDO, Ohio) - Competition remains intense for the CGS Imaging Hard Charger Award in the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards, as six drivers stand within 15 points of Buster Graham's lead with three races remaining.

 

Graham, who has driven a limited schedule this season for Team BCR Racing, leads the Hard Charger pursuit with 52 total points, most of which were earned in superspeedway action at Daytona (11) and Talladega (23) early this season.

 

Points for the CGS Imaging Hard Charger Award are awarded race-by-race, with drivers accumulating totals based on positions advanced from the start within a race. Cars must feature a CGS Imaging decal for drivers to be eligible for the award, and drivers using starting provisionals are not eligible.

 

The driver who advances the most positions during each race receives the CGS Imaging Hard Charger Award for that event, and the driver with the most points at the end of the season receives the CGS Imaging Hard Charger of the Year award. The CGS Imaging Hard Charger Award provides a $200 product certificate per race, and the year-end CGS Imaging Hard Charger of the Year receives a full race car wrap, which is valued at $2500.

Just behind Graham is series points leader Chris Buescher, who has 48 points and has earned the race award twice, at Chicagoland Speedway in July and in his win at Madison International Speedway just three weeks ago.

 

Salem race award winner Josh Williams is third with 47 points, ahead of Darrell Basham (46) and Brandon Davis (40). Basham has won three race awards this year, at Winchester Speedway, Iowa Speedway, and Berlin Raceway. Davis won the award with a top-five finish at Michigan International Speedway.

 

Daytona race award winner Will Kimmel is sixth at 38 points, one ahead of Spencer Gallagher.

 

Other race award winners this season include (in chronological order): Clint King (Mobile), Donnie Neuenberger (Talladega), Grant Enfinger (Toledo), James Hylton (Elko), Ed Pompa (Pocono - June), Milka Duno (New Jersey), Tom Hessert (Lucas Oil at Indianapolis), Kyle Martel (Pocono - August), and Mike Affarano (Illinois State Fairgrounds).

Practice for Saturday's Kentuckiana Ford Dealers Fall Classic presented by Federated Car Care at Salem will take place over two sessions, from 12:30-1:15 p.m. and 1:45-2:30 p.m. Menards Pole Qualifying presented by Ansell is scheduled for 4 p.m., and a driver autograph session will be open to all fans from 4:45-5:15 p.m. The 200-lap, 111-mile race will start at 7:15 p.m.

Autodrome Granby - Dernier programme de la saison 2012

                            

 

 

   Samedi le 15 septembre sera la dernière occasion de voir vos pilotes favoris en piste. Ce sera une épreuve enduro avec plusieurs tours de piste pour toutes les catégories à l’horaire. Exceptionnellement, les portes du puits seront ouvertes à compter de midi.

 

Les Sport-Compact : Une finale de 50 tours.

   Des frais d’inscription de $ 30.00 par participants seront facturés. Les voitures doivent être inspectées avant les qualifications. Dernière chance de prendre le départ d’une finale en 2012 à l’Autodrome Granby. Une épreuve de 50 tours sur le vert est prévue.

 

Enduro : 200 tours

   Pour les nostalgiques, voici la course tant attendue de l’été. Des camionnettes et des voitures qui ont déjà été utilisées sur nos routes seront en piste pour une finale de 200 tours. Vous pourrez voir d’anciennes Camaro, Chevelle et plusieurs autres bolides. Cette catégorie était en piste à chaque semaine, il y a quelques années. Les frais d’inscription sont de $ 40.00 par voiture.

 

Les Sportsman : Une épreuve de 100 tours.

   Les nombreux pilotes de la catégorie Sportsman s’élanceront pour une finale de 100 tours. Cette catégorie offre semaine après semaine un excellent spectacle. On devrait voir de nouveaux pilotes s’ajouter à notre peloton de voitures régulier pour cette dernière épreuve en 2012. Les pilotes devront acquitter les frais de $ 40.00 d’inscription afin de prendre le départ des qualifications.

Pre-Race News & Notes: 92nd ARCA Race Comes to Salem Speedway Sat. Sept. 15; 3 Kimmels, Elliott, Championship Title Fight and More

92nd Appearance for ARCA at Salem   

The ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards, celebrating its 60th Anniversary Season in 2012, is steering for Salem Speedway for the 92nd ARCA race on the historic, half-mile southern Indiana oval since the series debuted there in 1955. No track over ARCA's 60-year tenure has appeared more on the ARCA schedule than Salem.

 

 

Medal of Honor Recipient Dakota Myer Named Grand Marshal
Salem Speedway officials have announced that Medal of Honor recipient Dakota Meyer has been named Grand Marshal of the Kentuckiana Ford Dealers ARCA Fall Classic presented by Federated Car Care. Meyer, a United States Marine Corps veteran, was awarded the highest military decoration for his actions during the Battle of Ganjgal on September 8, 2009, as part of Operation Enduring Freedom in Kunar Province, Afghanistan. He is just the third living recipient of the Medal of Honor since the Vietnam War, and the first living United States Marine in 38 years to be so honored.Meyer, who was awarded the Medal of Honor by President Barack Obama in the East Room of the White House, is credited with saving 36 lives during the six-hour firefight.

 

Chase Elliott Aims at Salem
Chase Elliott, the 16-year-old son of NASCAR champion Bill Elliott, is entered for the Kentuckiana Ford Dealers 200 at Salem. The event will mark Elliott's first return trip to an ARCA track in his inaugural season. The driver of the No. 9 Aaron's Dream Machine/HendrickCars.com Chevrolet finished fourth at Salem back in April. He also finished 10th in his ARCA debut at Mobile Int'l Speedway after qualifying second. The second generation driver also finished a career-best second at the New Jersey Motorsports Park in his road course debut, seventh at Berlin, and eighth most recently at Madison.  

 

Nationwide Debut Sat. for Bowman; Add ARCA, Double Duty Raceday Trick Big Challenge
Cunningham Motorsports driver Alex Bowman, who currently sits fourth in ARCA championship points, has announced that he will make his NASCAR Nationwide Series debut with Turner Motorsports at Chicagoland Speedway this Saturday. Interestingly, the race at Chicagoland will happen just prior to the ARCA race at Salem. The conflicting schedules for Chicagoland and Salem sent Cunningham scrambling to find a driver to practice and qualify the No. 22 Dodge, a driver who may also have the opportunity to run the 200-lap race if Bowman can't get to Salem in time for the green flag. Cunningham subsequently turned to NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver and former Cunningham driver Dakoda Armstrong to take over the driving duties of the No. 22 until Bowman can make it to Salem. Armstrong's homecoming is three-fold; not only is he returning to his "home" track of Salem Speedway, less than an hour from home, he is returning to his former ARCA team at a track where, in his most recent start there, he led 88 of 200 laps and finished in Victory Lane in 2010. Bowman, who has 19 ARCA starts, has five wins, 11 top-three finishes, and 13 top-10 finishes. With five Menards Pole Awards in the 2012 season and the lead in the Aaron's Lap Leader Award, Bowman is also vying for top honors in the Team Messina Rookie Challenge. In his only Salem visit this April, Bowman dominated the race on the way to his third series win by leading 146 of the 200 laps

 

Title Fight Tight at the Top to Salem; Kimmel Chasing Buescher in Homestretch   

Nineteen-year-old Chris Buescher and 50-year-old veteran Frank Kimmel are preparing to take the ARCA Racing Series title fight to Salem Speedway. With just three races remaining on the 2012 tour - Salem, DuQuoin mile dirt (Oct. 14) and Kansas (Oct. 19) - the stakes could not be higher for both. Buescher, who won at Madison Int'l Speedway in the last event, increased his point lead to 60 points over Kimmel headed to Salem. However, Kimmel, back on his game with recent wins at Lucas Oil Raceway and the Springfield mile dirt, also heads to Salem as a nine-time winner there.


The Kimmel Triple at Salem

The Kimmel family will be well represented at Salem Speedway starting with Bill Kimmel, Sr., who turns 84 two days prior on Sept. 13. The first generation Kimmel family racer won three ARCA races during his career and will be honored in the ARCA 60th Anniversary Pre-Race Ceremonies. Bill Sr.'s son Frank Kimmel will be making his 38th career ARCA start at Salem while his son Frank Kimmel II will be making his third ARCA start at Salem. Frank's nephew Will Kimmel, who finished second in this same event last year, is also entered in the Kentuckiana Ford Dealers Ford. Will's father and eight-time Cometic Crew Chief of the Year Bill Kimmel, Jr. will serve as Will's crew chief for the race.  

 

Team Messina Rookie Challenge, Aaron's Lap Leader Battle Big to Salem   

Brennan Poole (The Woodlands, Texas) is the current Team Messina Rookie Challenge leader headed to Salem. However, Poole's lead is closely contested by Tucson, Arizona's Alex Bowman. Bowman, who drives for Cunningham Motorsports, trails Poole by just 12 points for the 2012 Team Messina Rookie Challenge Title. Bowman, however, currently leads Poole in the Aaron's Lap Leader special award category, having led 487 laps in 11 races. Poole trails in second with 472 laps led in seven races.

 

Veteran Bob Strait, Bowsher Motorsports Reunite for Salem   

Bob Strait will return to the driver's seat of the No. 21 Bowsher Motorsports Ford for this weekend's Kentuckiana Ford Dealers Fall Classic at Salem. Strait, 63, has had some of his greatest success in the ARCA Racing Series at Salem, where he earned two victories and four Menards Pole Awards presented by Ansell, along with a pole and a win in ASA competition. In 212 career starts since 1986, Strait has 16 wins and 16 poles, including wins at Atlanta, Talladega, and Winchester.Bowsher Motorsports, no stranger to success, has to its credit numerous victories and championships. Jack Bowsher won three ARCA driver/owner championships from 1963-65. The team has three additional car owner titles, in 1992, 1994, and 1995. Son Bobby Bowsher's driving titles in '92 and '94 mark the only father/son champions in ARCA history. The team's 80 victories also make for a total higher than any other in ARCA history.

 

Salem Race With International Flavor
Two drivers, Nelson Canache and Milka Duno, are from below the Equator (Caracas, Venezuela), and are entered in the Kentuckiana Ford Dealers 200. Canache, who drives for Venturini Motorsports, is currently eighth in ARCA points. Duno, on a partial season, is 21st in ARCA points. Duno is also a veteran of the Indianapolis 500. Duno tested at Salem back on September 6, as did newcomer Jack Clarke, who also brings international flavor to the event. Clarke, making his ARCA debut at Salem, is from London, England. Clarke is also getting an assist from Daytona 500 champion Derrike Cope, who joined Clarke for the test. Sorel, Quebec's Maryeve Dufault is also entered in one of four Carter 2 Motorsports Dodge entries.

 

Venturini Motorsports Times Five at Salem; Caleb Armstrong To Make ARCA Debut

Venturini Motorsports has entered five teams at Salem, including Indianan Caleb Armstrong (New Castle, Ind.), who will make his ARCA debut at Salem. Armstrong is the cousin of ARCA veteran and former Salem winner Dakota Armstrong. Other Venturini Motorsports entrants include Brennan Poole in the No. 25 Venturini Motorsports Chevrolet. Poole, from The Woodlands, Texas, is still very much in the championship hunt in third position, 135 points from the leader Chris Buescher. The remaining Venturini Motorsports entrants are Thomas Praytor (Mobile, Ala.) in the No. 35 Venturini Motorsports Chevrolet, 16-year-old Erik Jones (Byron, Mich.) in the No. 55 Paragon Corvette Reproductions Chevrolet, and Nelson Canache (Caracas, Venezuela) in the No. 66 Venezuela Tourism Chevrolet.

 

Oldest to Youngest
Sixty-two years separate the oldest driver from the youngest driver entered in the field for Saturday's Kentuckiana Ford Dealers 200. James Hylton, who just turned 78 in late August, is the oldest while Erik Jones is the youngest at just 16. Jones has already made ARCA history as the youngest driver to ever start an ARCA race at 15 back in March at Mobile Int'l Speedway. In nine career starts, Jones has already earned four top-five finishes, including career-best third place finishes at Winchester and Berlin. Hylton was the 1966 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Rookie of the Year.

 

Pre- and Post-Race Entertainment, On-Track Autographs, Post-Race Party with Live Music   

Saturday's pre-race festivities kick-off with the annual First Harrison Bank On-Track Autograph Session. Race fans are invited to visit with the ARCA Racing Series drivers and take advantage of photo and autograph opportunities. The Lucas Oil Great American Stock drivers, including Medal of Honor recipient Dakota Meyer, will also be available for autographs. The 30-minute autograph session gets underway at 4:45 p.m. The annual ARCA Fall Classic Party is scheduled to take place following the racing action on Saturday night with King's Cave set to provide musical entertainment from 9 p.m. until midnight in the Lowe's Zone behind the main grandstand. King's Cave plays a mix of classic rock and newer tunes.

 

Grueling/Versatile Late Summer Stretch for ARCA Warriors

The event on the New Jersey Motorsports Park road course kicked off a grueling and very versatile stretch for the ARCA teams, depictive of the tour's diversity. This particular stretch started July 1 on the New Jersey road course and will end on the Salem short track on September 15. In addition to the New Jersey road course and Salem short track, the tour will travel in between to superspeedways at Chicagoland, Pocono and Kansas, short tracks at Iowa, Lucas Oil Raceway, Berlin, Madison and Salem, and two late-season mile dirt tracks at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield and the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds in DuQuoin, Ill. Had the DuQuoin event, which rained out, had not been rescheduled for October 14, the ARCA tour, during the span, would have raced at 10 different tracks over an 11 week period. Kansas will wrap the 2012 season on October 19.

Mason Mingus; Win-Tron Racing Focused On Salem Showdown

 

 

SALEM, Indiana (September 12, 2012) - - With just two races remaining in his rookie season on the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards tour, Brentwood, Tennessee native Mason Mingus is determined to achieve some personal goals in Saturday night’s Kentuckiana Ford Dealers Fall Classic by Federated Car Care at the historic Salem (Ind.) Speedway.

 

The teenager has shown speed and success in his freshman season of driving the No. 32 Call 811 Before You Dig Toyota Camry for the veteran Win-Tron Racing team. In 10 events this season, the Tennessean has delivered six top-10 finishes including a career-best sixth at Winchester (Ind.) Speedway in June.

 

But, contending for a win and notching a top-five run still remain on Mingus’s “bucket list” this year. Thankfully, the 17-year old will return to the Southern Indiana racetrack for the third time in his young career and he strongly believes that he can accomplish both ahead of schedule.

 

“I am ready to go back to Salem,” said Mingus. “I had a great racecar there earlier this year. I think we really had a shot at the win if our pit strategy had gone our way. Salem is my favorite track that I have been to so far. I’ve had success in a Late Model there in the past and of course we had an encouraging finish in the Spring, so I’m anxious to see what we can do on Saturday night. One thing is for sure, I know the Win-Tron Racing guys will prepare me a good No. 32 Call 811 Before You Dig Toyota Camry.”

 

Even though the annual September ARCA showdown occurs under the lights, a much different climate from this past April, Mingus insists that the team’s approach to the race does not change.

 

“I am going into this race with the same expectations as every race and that is to try and win,” offered Mingus, who will make his third career ARCA start at the 0.5-mile paved oval. “The difference this weekend is that we have proven (in the past) that we are capable of it (winning), so we are going to bring everything we have to try and make it happen.”

 

With the curtain set to close on his inaugural ARCA season, Mingus hasn’t diverted away towards next year’s plans.

 

“We’re planning to come back and be here with Win-Tron Racing,” sounded Mingus. “We’ve spent a lot of time together this season building a relationship and I surely don’t want to see that fizzle out. We can only get stronger from here and I hope we’re able to show that next year. Hopefully we’re able to announce something more concrete really soon.” 

Nate Thiesse, co-car owner of Win-Tron Racing offered his sentiments on his protégés tango with Salem. “The race will be very demanding on Saturday night but we’re ready for it. Mason’s debut with Salem last year didn’t turn out as we had hoped but he made massive strides in April and we know that we can pick up right where we left off this weekend. We’ve been able to breed first time winners at Salem, especially in the Fall Classic. There’s no doubt in my mind that with a little luck we can do that again, this time with Mason on Saturday night.”

The Kentuckiana Ford Dealers Fall Classic by Federated Car Care (200 laps / 111 miles) is the 18th of 20 events on the 2012 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards schedule. The 92nd ARCA race held at Salem Speedway is a one day show. Practice begins Saturday, September 15 with a forty-five minute session planned from 12:30 p.m. - 1:15 p.m. Final practice also consisting of forty-five minutes begins at 1:45 p.m. and will conclude at 2:30 p.m. Menards pole qualifying presented by Ansell is set for later in the day slated to begin at 4:00 p.m. An on-track autograph session has been etched in immediately following qualifying. The event will take the green flag shortly after 7:15 p.m. later that night. The race will not be televised but additional coverage including a radio broadcast and timing and scoring will be available through the ARCA Racing Network (ARN) online at arcaracing.com. All times are local (Eastern).

 

In addition to Call 811 Before You Dig, Diamond Equipment will leap aboard the team as an associate marketing partner for Mingus’s 12th-career ARCA start.

Les initiales de M. Tony Trubiano seront attachées perpétuellement au « 300 » annuel de l'Autodrome St-Eustache.

Hommage au président de Cari-All

 

Les amateurs de courses de stock car qui fréquentent l’Autodrome St-Eustache, plus particulièrement lors de la fameuse course de 300 tours de fin de saison, qui a été courue au fil des ans par des pilotes  des organisations Cascar, Nascar et  American Canadian Tour se souviennent certainement de la fameuse appellation initiale de cette classique annuelle, le Cari-All 300. La compagnie Cari-All et son président Anthony « Tony » Trubiano à « prêté » leur nom à cette course et ont été un commanditaire majeur à l’Autodrome St-Eustache pendant de multiples saisons durant les années ’90 et 2000..

 

Monsieur Trubiano et Cari-All ont également été  supporteurs de nombreux événements et d’équipes de courses produits Alan Labrosse à travers le Canada.

 

Comme on le sait, Monsieur Trubiano s’est éteint il y a quelque temps au cours de la saison estivale.

 

Pour commémorer son apport au sport motorisé, le promoteur et propriétaire de l’Autodrome St-Eustache, Alan Labrosse a décidé de rendre un hommage perpétuel au président de Cari-All en attachant ses initiales au chiffre 300 représentant le nombre de tours de cette classique annuelle en la nommant pour toujours le « TT 300 ». C’est donc sous l’appellation « Castrol TT 300 » que sera courue cette course en 2012.

 

De plus, une minute de silence sera   observée après l’interprétation des Hymnes nationaux, pour Monsieur Anthony « Tony » Trubiano, avant le signal du départ de cette course, avec  en vedette, les pilotes de la Série ACT Castrol, ce dimanche 16 septembre 2012.

 

« La Famille Trubiano et Cari-All ont été dans le passé des supporteurs importants à l’Autodrome St-Eustache, c’est pourquoi nous avons l’intention de d’honorer à notre façon la mémoire de Monsieur Anthony « Tony » Trubiano en incorporant ses initiales à cet événement annuel qu’est le « 300 » de l’Autodrome St-Eustache, tant et aussi longtemps que le site de l’ASE sera sous la gouverne de ma famille…. » de préciser Alan Labrosse, l’actuel propriétaire de l’Autodrome St-Eustache.

 

Outre les pilotes de la Série ACT Castrol, qui participeront à une finale de 300 tours, le programme de courses « Castrol TT-300 » sera complété par la présentation de courses de la Série Revstar et des classes locales de l’ANCA, les Sport-Compactes, les Légendes modifiées, les Production et les Challenge 4.

 

Pour ce programme dominical, les puits ouvriront à 8h30 pour les pilotes de la série ACT Castrol, tandis que les pilotes des autres divisions seront accueillis dès 9h00. Des périodes d’essais auront lieu à compter de 10h00 et des qualifications à 11h15. Les premières finales débuteront, quant à elles, dès 13h15.

8-time ACT Late Model Champion Rolling Into Busy Stretch

GEORGIA, Vt. – Brian Hoar of Williston, Vt., heads for the final round of the Vermont State Late Model Championship Series this Sunday, September 16, at Devil's Bowl Speedway in West Haven, Vt., at just the right time.

 

Over the past three weeks, the RPM Motorsports No. 37 GossCars.com Dodge Charger has won two straight ACT Late Model Tour points races and rallied to finish fifth in the Showdown at Chaudiere – setting Hoar and crew chief Rick Paya up for a run through some of the most prestigious races of the entire season.

 

This weekend's Late Model 100 at Devil's Bowl starts a three-week stretch that heads to New Hampshire Motor Speedway next week and then the 50th annual People's United Milk Bowl at Thunder Road International Speedbowl on September 29.

 

“It's fun. This time of the year is always fun,” Hoar said. “They are the big events, and there's some good money and some prestigious events. There's no pressure on (ACT) points. We can go there and try and win the race and not worry much about any kind of consequences.

 

“We can go let it hang out and have some fun.”

 

The half-mile Devil's Bowl Speedway is a perfect place to do just that, Hoar said. It's turned into one of the racier places on the northeast's Late Model circuit. Paved prior to the 2011 season, it's the new home of the ACT Spring Green each May, as well as the host of two of the four races in the Vermont State Late Model Championship Series.

 

Hoar finished second at Devil's Bowl in his most recent start there, the I Am Vermont Strong 100 on June 15.

 

“We only missed it on the first try there (in May), and we've been hitting ever since there,” said Hoar, who also won a 30-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series feature at Devil's Bowl this season. “Devil's Bowl races out really well. When I first went there to test over a year ago, before we even raced there the first time, it seemed like it would be narrow, but it raced out wide and really well.

 

“There's almost so much room there, guys take different entry lines into the corners – conflicting entry lines at times – but it is what it is. It's turned into a great place to race.”

 

The RPM Motorsports team enters the weekend off an eventful Top-5 finish last Sunday in the rain-delayed Showdown At Chaudiere at Autodrome Chaudiere in Vallee-Jonction, Quebec. Hoar started third, pitted several times for adjustments and repairs to cosmetic damage, but still rallied all the way to finish fifth. He was locked in a three-way battle for third when the checkered flag fell.

 

It was a sign that the team is hitting its stride a the right time of year – just one week after winning the Labor Day Classic 200 at Thunder Road to close to within eight points of the ACT Late Model Tour lead with race remaining next month.

 

“We were definitely good last weekend,” Hoar said. “We were fast, and we had a fast race car. We showed that. We definitely passed the most cars on the weekend – not that they award points or money for that.

 

“But when the day came to an end, we recognized that we had a good car, and it was a fairly rewarding fifth-place effort for as many issues as we had. It does say something about how good the car was going and the guys made some fantastic adjustments. We were firing on all cylinders there.”

Dan McHattie Heads Back for Another Attack on the Magic Mile

In high school, the most popular kids were invited to all the parties.  While the textbooks have long since been put away, no one can dispute the educational and entertainment value of the annual American-Canadian Tour Invitational – Saturday, September 22nd – at Loudon, New Hampshire’s New Hampshire Motor Speedway.  Every year since the event’s inception, Dan McHattie has been selected to represent Kawartha Speedway at the show that shares the stage with the second race in the 2012 Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Championship.  Wrapping-up the hometown oval’s current campaign may be his immediate priority, but McHattie is anxious for his 4th start in the Granite State.

 

“My first order of business is finishing the season at Kawartha Friday, September 14th,” said McHattie.  “There are 3 of us in contention for the NAPA Auto Parts ACT Late Model title, so the battle for the championship is sure to go right down to the final checkered flag.  First thing Saturday morning, we’ll start changing the car over for the trip to New Hampshire.  It shouldn’t take too long, but I want to make sure everything is ready before we roll it into the hauler.”

 

McHattie – along with his Kawartha Speedway counterparts Ryan Kimball and Bryan Mercer – participated in the practice session at NHMS on Wednesday, August 29th.  Having 3 years experience on the one mile oval sent the Cavan, Ontario veteran to the track with a full set of notes on how to prep his ride.  Familiarity with the track – and having built his car from the ground up – saw the driver of the #71 J.J. Stewart Chrysler/Corp Construction/Uniglass Plus Ziebart/ Napa Sidey Auto Supply/Douglas Automotive/Barry McLennan Masonry/Foxon Alternator and Starter/Praxair Peterborough/Webb Transmission/Ontario Truck Training Academy Dodge Charger by Dan McHattie Racecars set the fast practice time on the day.

 

“We unloaded for the test with essentially the same package we used during the race last year,” said McHattie.  “Right off the bat, the car felt great.  I was able to run some solid laps and experimented with how the car would handle in the different grooves and race traffic.  This will be our 4th trip to the race and while it’s an honour to be invited, it would be the ultimate thrill to roll into victory lane when they wave the checkered flag.”

 

As he has done in the past, McHattie will make the trek to Loudon with a strong support crew of familiar faces including his parents, his wife Heidi, along with Colin Winslow and Chris Mitchell.  With so many events also on the Saturday, September 22nd schedule, television coverage of the ACT Tour Invitational isn’t possible, but Dan McHattie doesn’t think there’ll be a problem for fans looking to follow his progress.

 

“I know that within minutes of ending the first practice round at the test session, updates were flowing back home via Facebook and Twitter,” said the driver.  “Social media is a great thing and I’m sure that no matter how we do, the news will travel as fast as the racecar.”

Stone, Tremont to tackle Modifieds; Late Model stars running for Vermont State Championship

WEST HAVEN, VT – The deepest and most diverse field of northeastern stock car racing talent will be at Devil’s Bowl Speedway for the Vermont 200 Weekend on Saturday, September 15 and Sunday, September 16.  The event is expected to draw a pool of Late Model drivers and open-wheel Modified racers from all corners of the Northeast for a pair of 100-lap events to close out the Devil’s Bowl season.

 

Top drivers from the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Bond Auto Parts Modified division will face stiff competition from a strong group of invaders.  Charlton, NY veteran Ron Proctor, the newly crowned 2012 Devil’s Bowl Speedway track champion, will square off against Vince Quenneville, Jr., of Brandon, VT, teenagers Hunter Bates of Middlebury, VT and Jessey Mueller of Olmstedville, NY, and feature winners Leon Gonyo, Alex Bell, Joe Williams, and Rookie of the Year Joey Roberts.

Expected to challenge the Modifieds are multi-time champions Todd Stone of Middlebury, VT and Kenny Tremont, Jr., of West Sand Lake, NY.  Stone won the 2008 Devil’s Bowl title on dirt and is the 2012 Airborne Speedway champion on asphalt, and Tremont has 34 track championships on his resume including six titles at Devil’s Bowl on both dirt and asphalt surfaces.  As many as 30 Modified teams could attempt qualifying on Saturday and Sunday.

Nick Sweet and Dave Pembroke enter the Vermont 200 Weekend tied for the point lead in the Vermont State Late Model Championship Series.  Thunder Road Int’l Speedbowl 2012 champion Sweet, of Barre, VT, won both Vermont State Championship events at Thunder Road earlier this year, but struggled in the “I Am Vermont Strong 100” at Devil’s Bowl in June.  Meanwhile, Middlesex, VT racer Pembroke won the first-ever asphalt Late Model race at Devil’s Bowl in 2010 and finished fifth in June.

Craig Bushey of Fairfax, VT was crowned the J&S Steel Late Model champion at Devil’s Bowl last Friday after earning his ninth win of the season; among his victories was the I Am Vermont Strong 100.  Brent Dragon, third in Vermont State points, also has a feature win at Devil’s Bowl in 2012, as does eight-time American-Canadian Tour champion Brian Hoar; both are expected on Sunday along with fellow Devil’s Bowl winners Dan Petronis, Kevin Elliott, Jamie Fisher, and Rookie of the Year Robert Bryant, Jr.  Champion racers Ricky Rolfe, Bryan Town, and Vermont Lieutenant Governor Phil Scott are also among those expected to attempt to qualify.

Special events will be held throughout the weekend for Devil’s Bowl Speedway’s weekly Renegade and Bomber divisions.  Qualifying heats and features will be held on both days for the eight-cylinder Renegades, with a 15-lap shootout-style feature on Saturday and a 50-lap, $500-to-win event on Sunday.  The Bomber event will be a two-day, three-segment, cumulatively scored race paying $200 to the overall winner.

Several other special races will be held during the Vermont 200 Weekend including 10-lap shootouts in the Modified and Bomber divisions for drivers who have not won a feature race at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in 2012.  The Daredevil division will also be in action with a feature race on Saturday for race team crew members and another race on Sunday for pre-registered fans selected by random draw.

Two-day adult general admission for the Vermont 200 Weekend at Devil’s Bowl Speedway is $30, with the Sunday-only ticket just $25; children age 12 and under are free.   Spectator gates open at 12:00 noon on both Saturday, September 15 and Sunday, September 16, with racing at 1:30pm both days.

Austin Theriault of Fort Kent, Maine, returns to the seat of the Brad Keselowski Racing No. 29 Checkered Flag Foundation Dodge for the ASA Midwest Tour 3M 150 at Iowa Speedway in Newton, Iowa, on Friday, September 14. Theriault finished fourth in the World Crown 300 at Gresham Motorsports Park on July 4 in his last outing with the Super Late Model team, and he now has two Top-5 finishes in his last four starts with BKR. Theriault, 18, will be making his Iowa Speedway debut on Friday.

AUSTIN THERIAULT, Driver of the Brad Keselowski Racing No. 29 Checkered Flag Foundation Dodge Charger, On getting back in a BKR car after a two-month hiatus: “I'm looking forward to it. We were off to a very good middle part of the season, and we went out and had a good run at Gresham (in the World Crown 300) with a good, solid finish.

“Even though it's been a little bit of time since our last race, I've been in constant contact with (crew chief Gary Crooks) about things we want to work on and things I've got to work on. It hasn't been totally ignored by any means – we've still been working right along and trying to improve the program.”

On heading to Iowa Speedway for the first time this week: “This is another new thing for me, another different track, and it will be another learning experience for me. I don't know a whole lot about it, other than it's about a mile in length and it's banked a little higher than some of the other mile tracks I've been to, like Milwaukee or New Hampshire.

“The more I race, the easier it is making that transition from track to track. Certainly, it's gotten a bit easier to go from a place like a Thunder Road to a Loudon and be able to adjust fairly quickly. There's a bit of an improvement there.”

On his goals with BKR this weekend at Iowa: “Everybody still wants to win, and it's no different for us. Finishing things off with a good, solid finish is always a plus. Things change so quickly in racing, it's really hard to set firm goals – things change so quick, anything can happen, and you have to be able to adjust on the fly.

“That being said, I'm pretty confident we can have a good finish at Iowa and continue what we've got going here.”
