Patrick Laperle Claims Second Straight Castrol Title with St-Eustache 300 Win

St-Eustache, QC – St-Denis, Quebec’s Patrick Laperle claimed his second straight Série ACT Castrol Championship with his fourth win of the season in the St-Eustache 300 at Autodrome St-Eustache on Sunday, September 16. Laperle cruised to the win leading the final 50 laps of the event after getting by Jonathan Bouvrette who held on for second. Karl Allard climbed his way back to third after bringing out a caution on lap 277 and restarting at the rear. Dany Trepanier and Patrick Hamel completed the top five.

Rookie Etienne Cliche finished sixth as the final car on the lead lap. Martin Goulet, Jr., Simon Roussin, David Michaud and Jacques Poulin completed the top ten. Second place point man Jean-Franoiçois Déry was involved in an early caution and spent an extended period of time on pit road changing a radiator and making front end repairs, which ended his title hopes. He finished fourteenth, thirty laps down.

Laperle’s three career Série ACT Castrol Championships is now the most all-time and today’s win puts him just one behind all-time Série ACT Castrol wins leader Donald Theetge with 17. The 300 lap event was completed in just under three hours with 19 cautions. Just fifteen of the twenty-six cars were on the track for the checkered flag.

The Série ACT Castrol is done for 2012. Laperle, Theetge, Trepanier, Allard, Michaud and Dery will all make the trip south of the border next Saturday, September 22 for the fourth annual Bond Auto ACT Invitational at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon, NH as part of Cup weekend. Many teams will head to Thunder Road International Speedbowl in Barre, VT for the 50^th People’s United Bank Milk Bowl on Saturday, September 29 and Sunday, September 30.

Pembroke wins Vermont State Championship by single point

WEST HAVEN, VT – Todd Stone and Brent Dragon left stock car racing fans cheering at Devil’s Bowl Speedway on Sunday, picking up wins in the twin 100-lap events during the second day of the Vermont 200 Weekend. The event was the final race on the regular stock car racing schedule for 2012.

Stone, a Middlebury, VT native who won the 2008 Devil’s Bowl Speedway championship when the track had a clay surface, made a triumphant return to his home track in winning the 100-lap Bond Auto Parts Modified race. Stone overcame a mechanical failure on lap 11 that left his car stopped on the track and caused a caution period, but after pitting for repairs, the No. 1x G. Stone Motors car tore its way through heavy traffic to catch leaders Jessey Mueller and Roger Labreche late in the race.

Seventeen year-old Mueller, of Olmstedville, NY, expertly navigated lapped traffic, but the right-front tire on his No. 19 Mueller & Sons Heavy Duty Towing car gave up with ten laps remaining. Stone snuck underneath Mueller exiting Turn 4 on lap 92 to take the lead and never looked back. Mueller took the runner-up spot, with St-Remis, QC racer Labreche third in his first-ever Devil’s Bowl appearance. Vince Quenneville, Jr., of Brandon, VT was fourth with Leon Gonyo of Chazy, NY fifth. Alex Bell, Kenny Tremont, Jr., Hunter Bates, Joey Roberts, and Nick Heywood completed the unofficial top ten.

Brent Dragon’s victory in the 100-lap J&S Steel Late Model event was not without controversy, as initial electronic transponder scoring showed Chip Grenier of Graniteville, VT as the winner in a photo finish. An official video review reversed the decision, however, and Milton, VT veteran Dragon was shown to have reached the finish line about eight inches ahead of Grenier. Grenier graciously accepted the decision to much applause. Brooks Clark of Fayston, VT finished a strong third.

The race was the final event in the Vermont State Late Model Championship, a four-race series between Devil’s Bowl Speedway and Thunder Road Int’l Speedbowl in Barre, VT. Dave Pembroke of Middlesex, VT held Dragon off by just a single point, unofficially, to clinch the championship with a fourth-place finish. Dragon entered the race trailing Pembroke and co-leader Nick Sweet of Barre, VT by 12 points.

Matt White of Northfield, VT finished fifth in the race, with Trampas Demers sixth. Sweet rebounded from an early crash to finish seventh. Eric Chase, Brian Hoar, and 15 year-old rookie Joey Laquerre completed the unofficial top ten. Another 15 year-old rookie, Emily Packard of East Montpelier, VT, was eliminated from contention for the win just three laps shy of the finish after a crash with Hoar and Devil’s Bowl champion Craig Bushey took her out of third place. Packard was running in close formation with Dragon and Grenier at the time of the incident.

Kevin Boutin of Swanton, VT won an exciting back-and-forth battle with Devil’s Bowl NASCAR Whelen All-American Series weekly division champion Robert Gordon in the 50-lap Renegade special. Boutin, the Airborne Speedway champion, won the race in his first-ever start at Devil’s Bowl. David Emigh of Ballston Spa, NY finished third in his first start of the year, followed by Curt Seymour of Plattsburgh, NY and Paul Braymer of Granville, NY.

Bobby LaVair of Gabriels, NY was the overall winner of the three-segment Bomber “Triple 12s” event, held over the two-day weekend. LaVair finished third in the first 12-lap segment on Saturday, then finished first and second in the final two rounds on Sunday. His low total score of six points (3^rd + 1^st + 2^nd = 6 pts.) gave him the win. Tyson Drown of Morrisonville, NY finished second overall (1^st + 4^th + 5^th = 10 pts.), with Ray Germain, Jr., of Bristol, VT third (5^th + 2^nd + 4^th = 11 pts.) Chris LaVair was fourth overall and third-segment winner Josh Masterson was fifth.

Roger Pepin of Cookshire, QC won a special five-lap Daredevil event for race fans drawn at random. Chris Lacey of Burlington, VT was second and Ron Antini of Granville, NY was third.

The Vermont 200 Weekend put a cap on the regular 2012 stock car racing season. One final event, the $1,500-to-win Vermonster 150 Enduro, is scheduled for Saturday, October 20. Details and entry blanks will released soon.

Pembroke Wins VT State Championship by One

Dragon Wins Vermont 100 in Dramatic Fashion

West Haven, VT – Milton, VT’s Brent Dragon proved himself as one of the greats in the most dramatic race of the year at the Vermont State Championship Series finale at Devil’s Bowl Speedway on Sunday, September 16. Chip Grenier finished a heart-breaking second, and the Mad River Valley’s Brooks Clark stole third in the closing laps.

Grenier shot to the lead in the early going, working around pole sitter Clark to gain the lead on the third lap of the event, but third-place point man Dragon stole it away from him on the eleventh circuit. Dragon’s lead was short lived when 7-time American Canadian Tour Champion Jean Paul Cyr worked to the front, where the pair survived 7 of the first 9 cautions on the front row together. While Dragon fought for the lead, tied point leaders Sweet and Pembroke struggled.

On lap 30, the championship battle whittled as Sweet took a spin off the top of turn one, relegating him to last on the grid. Dragon was in it for the win, and Pembroke had to finish fourth or better to be the first Vermont State Championship in 25 years.

At lap 41, the game changed when Jean Paul Cyr dropped a tire over the edge of the backstretch, spraying dirt everywhere and losing control of his car. Cyr swerved back and forth, avoiding traffic and trying to recover, finally making the epic save when he had fallen to seventh. Grenier inherited the lead on Cyr’s rare mistake.

As the laps ticked on by, Pembroke began to fall away from the top four that now rain nose to tail. Grenier and Dragon at the front, and rookie sensation Emily Packard trying to hold off the 8-time American Canadian Tour Champion Brian Hoar, who had started 27^th on the starting grid after being disqualified out of his heat. With three laps to go, desperation set in for the line of four as they raced for valuable championship points, and another champion made a rare mistake. Hoar locked up his brakes accidentally going into turn one, and 2012 Devil’s Bowl Speedway Champion Craig Bushey, with no room to stop, hit Hoar and sent him head long into Packard. It was the end of a brilliant day for Packard and Bushey, and Hoar would have to start from the rear.

The restart brought Dragon and Grenier together on the front row for a three-lap shootout, Grenier choosing to start from the outside lane. The pair battled door to door, the Devil’s Bowl crowd on their feet, as Grenier inched to the lead on the outside. Dragon dove beneath him one last time on the final corner and pulled beside him coming to the line. Grenier was unofficially declared the winner by 13 hundredths of a second, and took his victory lap.

But it was not meant to be, as Grenier had his trophy in victory lane, Devil’s Bowl Officials looked at video replay. The crowd erupted after a short delay, when Officials reversed the call and deemed Dragon the winner. Pembroke, with his fourth place finish, unofficially claimed the Vermont State Championship by 1 point over Dragon. Matt White finished fifth, and Trampas Demers, Nick Sweet, Eric Chase, Brian Hoar, and young Joey M. Laquerre completed the top ten. The race was completed in 1 hour, 1 minute, and 26 seconds.

“I wouldn’t have wanted to race with anyone else,” said Dragon in victory lane. “We were slipping and sliding, battling all over the place and I was glad it was Chip. I guess that was a pretty great finish,” he said excitedly.

Invited ACT Championship Cars will now head to New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon, NH this Saturday, September 22 for the Bond Auto ACT Invitational. Then, ACT Late Models from around the region will head to the biggest race in Vermont history at the 50^th People’s United Bank Milk Bowl for a purse worth over $120,000.

Trois-Rivieres, September 16^th, 2012 – Louis-Phillipe Dumoulin participated in the second to last event of the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series season yesterday. The n° 47 WeatherTech Canada/Bellemare driver was within inches of being in the top-10 on the Riverside International Speedway.

« J’étais huitième, toutefois lors d’une relance, un des retardataires en avant de moi, beaucoup plus lent que les autres, ne m’a pas laissé l’espace pour le dépasser et j’ai perdu trois positions à cause de cela. Nous aurions pu terminer aisément dans le top-10 », partage Louis-Philippe Dumoulin.

Louis-Philippe Dumoulin fait partie des pilotes respectés par ses adversaires et les officiels de NASCAR Canadian Tire. Le Québécois a été félicité à plusieurs reprises par la série pour son éthique professionnelle en piste. « À chaque fois que j’avais une ouverture pour le dépasser [en parlant du retardataire], le peloton de tête prenait de l’avance et je me devais de reprendre la position derrière lui pour les laisser passer. « I was in eighth place, but during a restart a much slower lapped car in front of me did not allow me to pass and I lost three positions because of this. We could have easily finished in the top-10 », shares Louis-Philippe Dumoulin.

Louis-Philippe Dumoulin is one of the drivers respected by competitors and the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series officials. The Quebecer was congratulated on several occasions by the Series for his professional ethics on the track. « Every time I had the opportunity to pass him [speaking about the lapped car], the leading group had moved ahead and I had to return my position behind him in order to let them pass. On track, the respect of the other drivers is important, I could have taken him out of the race on many occasions, but this is not how we do it », explains with aplomb the n° 47 WeatherTech Canada/Bellemare Dodge driver.

Louis-Philippe Dumoulin will be participating in the last race of the season on Kawartha Speedway (Fraserville, Ontario) on September 22^nd (practice at 11 am; qualifications at 3 pm; PINTY’S « 250 » starts at 5 pm).

Chris Buescher Extends Points Lead and Wins France Four Crown

(SALEM, Ind.) - After taking three races off after the halfway point of the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards season and effectively removing himself from championship contention, Tom Hessert's goal was simple: Win.

That's just what Hessert did in the Kentuckiana Ford Dealers ARCA Fall Classic presented by Federated Car Care at Salem Speedway, leading the final 78 laps for his second ARCA victory.

Hessert (No. 52 Federated Auto Parts Chevrolet) was excited to win not only in a race supported by his primary sponsor, but also at such a historic track. He made clean start after clean start on restarts as the race wound down.

"I'm really into the history of our sport and hearing all about Salem and all of the guys who raced here, I'm glad I got to be one of the guys to go to Victory Lane here," Hessert said. "The track just kind of worked out for us. We were all on the right tires at the right time. I knew if we could maintain with whoever was behind us for the first 10 laps (of a run), we could eventually inch away and that's the way it ultimately worked out for us. Federated's been our sponsor for the year, so it's really, really cool."

Chris Buescher (No. 17 Roulo Brothers Racing Ford) edged Chase Elliott (No. 9 Aaron's Dream Machine/HendrickCars.com Chevrolet) in the final laps to finish second. Buescher extended his points lead to 85 over Frank Kimmel (No. 44 Ansell/Menards Toyota) - who finished fourth but did not lead laps - and won the Bill France Four Crown Award by 40 points. The Bill France Four Crown includes four races, one on each type of track that the series competes on in a given year: speedway, short track, road course, and dirt track.

Elliott won his first career Menards Pole Award presented by Ansell, but Buescher stormed by him at the start and led the first 47 laps. Buescher, though, was collected in a Lap 48 accident when another car spun in front of him. He received significant rear damage, and several other top-10 contenders were tied up as well.

ARCA officials threw a red flag, and when cars began to roll again, Elliott took the lead on Lap 48 and Buescher drove to pit road for repairs. With Kimmel rising to second while Buescher languished outside of the top 10, Buescher's 70-point lead atop the series standings entering the race appeared to be in jeopardy.

Elliott led through two more caution periods, looking every bit the contender who had finished in the top 10 in each of his first five ARCA starts. But after the race's fourth caution, Frank Kimmel II (No. 09 Motor Honey/Casite.com Ford) started to charge at his home track.

Kimmel re-started 11th at Lap 69 and rose to ninth by Lap 74 and seventh the next time around. He, Spencer Gallagher (No. 23 Allegiant Air Chevrolet), and Hessert passed Mason Mingus (No. 32 Call 811 Before You Dig Toyota), and he was in fifth place at Lap 77. Ahead of him, Elliott led over Jared Marks, who had just passed Kimmel II's father, the nine-time Salem winner. But Kimmel II drove to second on Lap 81, and trailed Elliott by 3.564 seconds for the lead.

Kimmel II quickly made up the deficit and passed Elliott on Lap 89 and extended his lead to nearly two seconds as the race approached its halfway point. On Lap 97, though, Hessert passed Elliott for second, and started to move in on Kimmel II.

A caution bunched up the field, and on the Lap 123 restart, Hessert made the decisive move of the race and drove by Kimmel II, who led off of pit road. Hessert made clean restarts on Lap 146 and 153 green flags and held leads of under one second for most of the end of the race. With 20 laps to go in the 200-lap event, Elliott had moved back to second. He drove one position ahead of Buescher, who had rebounded after making several pit stops, taking continued repairs, and using a fair amount of championship resolve.

Buescher drove by Elliott for second before the finish, but their battle in the waning laps helped Hessert cruise ahead to a large lead in front of them. Kimmel, determined not to lose too much ground in the championship pursuit, drove to fourth. Alex Bowman (No. 22 St. Jude Children's Research Hospital Dodge), who earlier in the day made his NASCAR Nationwide Series debut at Chicagoland Speedway and then flew to Salem Speedway, advanced to fifth.

Hessert crossed the start/finish line on Lap 200 with a 2.976-second win, ahead of Buescher, Elliott, Frank Kimmel, Bowman, Mingus, Kimmel II, Brennan Poole (No. 25 Venturini Motorsports Chevrolet), Gallagher, and Matt Lofton (No. 16 Strutmasters.com Chevrolet).

Seven cautions slowed the race for 41 laps. The race finished in one hour, 36 minutes, and four seconds, at an average speed of 69.319 mph. The full race results are below.

The second dirt race of the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards season is up next, on Sunday, October 14 in DuQuoin, Ill.

Practice for the Southern Illinois 100 presented by Federated Car Care will begin at 9 a.m. and last for one hour, with Menards Pole Qualifying presented by Ansell starting at 11. The 100-lap, 100-mile race will take place at 1 p.m. All times are Central. ARCARacing.com will feature live timing and scoring coverage throughout the day, and ARCA Racing Network hosts Charlie Krall and Tim Clagg will deliver a live audio call for the race on the site. The race had been scheduled for Labor Day, but was postponed because of severe weather in southern Illinois.

2012 is the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards' 60th Anniversary Season, featuring 20 races at 18 tracks. The complete 2012 event schedule is available at ARCARacing.com.

The ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards has crowned an ARCA national champion each year since its inaugural season in 1953, and has toured over 200 race tracks in 26 states since its inception. The series has tested the abilities of drivers and race teams over the most diverse schedule of stock car racing events in the world, visiting tracks ranging from 0.375 mile to 2.66 miles in length, on both paved and dirt surfaces as well as a left- and right-turn road course in its most recent season.
