PASS Announces Mason-Dixon MegaMeltdown 300 For November At Hickory

CHARLOTTE, NC (January 20) – Officials from the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) announced today a major adjustment to the 2017 racing schedule.  The PASS Super Late Models will stage a 300 green flag lap event on Saturday, November 18th at the legendary Hickory Motor Speedway.  The Mason-Dixon MegaMeltdown will be highlighted by live pit stops and will feature a nearly $70,000 total purse.  The race will pay $15,000 to the winner and $1,000 to start, plus there will be an additional $25 per lap awarded to the race leader, which could push the winner's total to $22,500.  The event will now be the final race of the PASS National Championship Series, joining other national races at Dillon Motor Speedway, Orange County Speedway, the Easter Bunny 150 at Hickory, Thompson Speedway, Beech Ridge Motor Speedway, and the 44th Annual Oxford 250 at Oxford Plains Speedway. 

The Mason-Dixon MegaMeltdown will be the Mid-Atlantic region's highest paying Super Late Model race and richest since PASS staged a 300 lapper at North Wilkesboro Speedway in 2011.  Additionally, the PASS event scheduled for September 23rd at Hickory will now be eliminated due to the recent announcement of Martinsville Speedway's Late Model Stock race being scheduled for that weekend.

"For quite some time, we have thought there was a place for an Oxford 250-style event in the South, and that time is now," said PASS President Tom Mayberry after a teleconference with potential sponsors today.  "Hickory has a history that is second to none in short track racing and we believe the Mason-Dixon MegaMeltdown will build on that legacy for years to come.  Hickory is similar in length to Oxford Plains and we believe this race has the potential to join short track racing's crown jewels starting this year."

From its early days in the 1950's as a dirt track to today, Hickory Motor Speedway has seen some of stock car racing's most legendary drivers including Junior Johnson, Ned and Dale Jarrett, Harry Gant, and three generations of Earnhardts.  In 2006, PASS became the South's original Super Late Model tour when the green flag dropped for the inaugural Easter Bunny 150.  Since then, PASS has become the nation's most successful Super Late Model sanctioning body and the Easter Bunny 150 has grown to become the Spring's biggest short track event.

"When you look at the great drivers that race in PASS North from New England like Johnny Clark, Ben Rowe, Travis Benjamin and so many others and the great group of young PASS South drivers like Tate Fogleman, Matt Craig, Kodie Conner and those guys, this is the type of event that they want to win and be a part of for a long time," said Mayberry.  "You take those competitors, along with all the other great Super Late Model drivers from the Midwest, West Coast, Quebec and the Canadian Maritimes…this is gonna be one heck of a show come November."

At 300 green flag laps, the Mason-Dixon MegaMeltdown will feature true, live pit stops and strategy throughout the race.  The event will be a "10 tire race," meaning competitors will have the four tires they start the race on and will have the option, but are not required, to change six tires during the course of the race.  Since caution laps do not count, teams would not lose laps during a pit stop under caution. 

The field will be set by qualifying, with the top 20 qualifiers being locked in, three each will come from the three last chance races, and additional starters will be determined from the last chance consolation race.  There will be six provisional spots available for PASS National, PASS South, PASS North, and a promoter's option for licensed drivers that pre-register.  Sponsors and fans are encouraged to purchase laps for just $25.  They will be mentioned several times during the course of the weekend and will have the honor of knowing that they are a part of this historic event.

Although a full schedule has not been posted, teams will have the opportunity to practice on Thursday, November, 16th, qualifying and last chance races will take place following practice at 6 PM on Friday, November 17th, and the Mason-Dixon Meltdown will go green on Saturday afternoon, November 18th at 1:30 PM.   

The 2017 PASS South Super Late Model season will kick off its 11 race schedule on Saturday, February 4th with the PASS Winter Meltdown at Dillon Motor Speedway.  For more information and schedules on any PASS division please visit the website at ProAllStarsSeries.com

Diverse Entry List Continues To Grow For PASS Winter Meltdown At Dillon





 

CHARLOTTE, NC (January 18) – Diversity is the name of the game as drivers from far and wide continue to prepare for the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) Super Late Model season opener at Dillon Motor Speedway on Saturday afternoon, February 4.  The "Original" Winter Meltdown will again be on Super Bowl weekend and will pit the best short track racers in North America against one another for 200 laps in the first race of the 2017 PASS National Championship series.

Sarah Cornett-Ching comes into 2017 with realistic goals in PASS and something to prove to herself starting at Dillon.  For the 25-year-old driver from British Columbia, just being at the Meltdown will be a victory of sorts.  Following a season that saw her finish seventh in ARCA Racing Series points in 2015, Cornett-Ching ran a partial schedule last year.  In the ARCA season finale at Kentucky Speedway, she suffered a serious concussion after a devastating crash.  Experiencing symptoms similar to those of Dale Earnhardt, Jr., Cornett-Ching was unsure of her racing future.

"I don't really know the exact time when I felt like I was 'coming back',  but it's more like the symptoms began to go away slowly and I would wake up one day and realize I didn't feel nauseous anymore and then a few weeks later I would notice that I didn't have a headache all the time," says Cornett-Ching.  "My memory would slowly improve and I would feel like I could do anything I used to be able to and when I started exerting energy it just knocked me back down.  I am still working on getting my stamina back to where I was but thankfully the symptoms have totally gone away and the doctor has cleared me for all competition."

After three PASS starts in 2016, Cornett-Ching returns with Tony Blanchard and the Race 101 team this year, with plans to compete for the PASS South Super Late Model championship and possibly the PASS National title.  She will also be looking to better the sixth place results of Tayla Orleans and Kenzie Ruston-Hemric, currently tied as the best finishes by a female driver in PASS history.

"I don't have lofty goals for 2017, but I hope to be a competitive top 10 car at each race I enter," says Cornett-Ching.  "My ultimate goal is to be the most successful female ever to compete in the PASS Series, win races and be a threat each time I show up to the track. This will be my first race back after several months of not racing and I know the PASS Series has some high car counts and competitive racing.  I would like to be in the top 10, but ultimately running 200 laps clean and finishing this race will be priority #1.  I really like Dillon, it has some neat character and Ron Barfield has done a great job of facilitating us any way he can, so I am looking forward to an awesome time."

Joining Cornett-Ching at Dillon will be first time PASS starter, Tanner Thorson.  Following in the footsteps of former PASS South winner, Christopher Bell, the Minden, NV driver is hoping to make the successful transition from open wheel cars to stock cars.  After finishing as the USAC National Midget Series runner-up in 2015, Thorson did even better last year, capturing six wins and the series championship.  Already this season, Thorson finished fourth in the Chili Bowl, the most prominent event for Midgets.  Thorson joins the Bond Suss Motorsports team at Dillon for the Meltdown after the organization went to victory lane for the first time last November at the North-South Shootout at Concord Speedway with Dalton Sargeant behind the wheel.

Joining the growing list of drivers from New England on the entry list is New Hampshire's Joey Polewarczyk.  The former ACT Late Model champion and Oxford 250 winner will be making his first trip to a PASS South race since 2013.  Running a limited schedule last year, Polewarczyk captured three wins in just nine PASS North Super Late Model starts.  The PASS Winter Meltdown will be Polewarczyk's first trip to Dillon Motor Speedway.

            Action gets underway at Dillon Motor Speedway Speedway on Friday, February 3 with gates opening at 1 PM and rotating practice for the PASS Super Late Models, Late Models, and Pro 4s from 2 – 5 PM.  On Saturday, February 4, gates will open at 8 AM, with rotating practice from 10 AM – Noon, qualifying at 12:30 PM, and feature events set to go green at 2 PM.

It's been more than 20 years since eight-time World of Outlaws (WoO) Craftsman Sprint Car Series champion Donny Schatz earned the Outlaws' coveted Rookie of the Year honors. Last week, the Fargo, North Dakota racer was a rookie in the 31st annual Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals presented by General Tire held at the Tulsa (Okla.) Expo Raceway. Following his seventh-place finish aboard the No. 15 Arctic Cat-sponsored entry of Clauson-Marshall Racing (CMR) in Saturday night's first B-Feature, Schatz was recognized as the event's top rookie in the field of 365 entries.

 

"What an incredible opportunity," Schatz said. "We came here with high expectations. We wanted to make the show first and foremost and, unfortunately, we came up one spot short. Racing in the Chili Bowl was something I wasn't sure I'd ever do, but I'm thrilled I had the chance to do it. I'm very thankful to all of the people who made this possible – The Clauson Family, Richard and Jennifer Marshall, as well as, Arctic Cat. Being part of what Bryan had envisioned as his 'Dream Team' is an honor that I'll always cherish. This CMR team is filled with incredible individuals. I've met some people I know I'll call friends from now on. To fulfill a dream of Bryan's and to hear how important having me part of his team from his parents was truly a blessing."

Schatz made his first laps around the roughly quarter-mile indoor dirt oval Monday during a pair of practice sessions. With guidance from CMR teammates Tyler Courtney and Shane Gobolic and co-owner Tim Clauson, Schatz went into Tuesday's VIROC IX 20-lap race with a plan. He found his rhythm early before being shuffled back midway through the race. After being lapped, Schatz worked on making consistent laps in preparation for his qualifying night. It became evident he was becoming more comfortable in his first career Midget race following a late-race restart, when he kept pace with eventual winner Kyle Larson and two-time-defending Chili Bowl champion Rico Abreu. He would be credited with a 19th-place finish.

With both Monday's practice sessions and Tuesday's VIROC experience under his belt, Schatz began his quest to earn a Golden Driller trophy in the second qualifying-night program Wednesday. The qualifying nights offer points for drivers in heat, qualifying race and feature action. Schatz started third and finished second in heat six to earn the pole for A-qualifier race number two. He led the first nine laps of the qualifier, making impressive laps attacking the cushion, and had taken the white flag before a caution erased his nearly half-track lead. On the ensuing restart, Andrew Felker executed a perfect slide job and relegated Schatz to second. His point total through his heat and qualifier put him 15th on the grid for Wednesday's25-lap A-Main. In the early going, Schatz worked both the high line and bottom groove seeking the best way around the semibanked dirt oval. During the second half of the race, he began making progress with consistent laps around the bottom. He ultimately reached eighth, a finish that would lock him into one ofSaturday night's B-Features.

In Saturday's finale, the first B-Feature was the 26th race of the day, a 20-lap sprint with the carrot of qualifying for the 55-lap Chili Bowl finale up for grabs. Schatz started 10th and held his spot during the opening eight laps before edging his way forward. The top six finishers would transfer directly into the A-Feature and, when the race was halted by the first caution, Schatz was up to eighth. A good restart allowed Schatz to crack the top-six and he patiently worked the bottom groove for the majority of the race. It looked as though he had advanced into the top-five on a multiple occasions, but cautions each time put him back in sixth. With two laps remaining, Schatz was vying for fifth when the final caution again thwarted his advancement. Unfortunately, the late-race restart enabled Thomas Meseraull to get by Schatz for the final transfer position.

 

"We gave it everything we had," Schatz said. "It was a work in progress all week, but I can't thank all the other drivers on this team for their help. I felt like we had fifth several times but just didn't get across the finish line. I really wanted to get this Arctic Cat car in the show and see what we could have done in that long of a race. It was a great experience and, hopefully, we'll have another crack at making the big show in the future."

 

With his annual Australian tour and first Chili Bowl Nationals complete, the focus for Schatz now turns toward the 2017 WoO campaign. The Tony Stewart Racing (TSR) crew continues preparing for the upcoming season with an eye on February, when they'll make the annual trek to Florida to kick things off during Speedweeks.

La série SCMX Québec débarque à l’Autodrome Chaudière



La série SCMX Québec débarque à l'Autodrome Chaudière


Vallée Jonction, mardi 17 janvier 2017 - Pour la première fois en 25 ans, l'Autodrome Chaudière accueillera un événement de snocross.  L'événement aura lieu le 27 et 28 janvier prochain alors que les courses se dérouleront de soir, une première pour le circuit SCMX.  Bien connu des amateurs de ce sport, la série débutera la saison par un arrêt à Vallée Jonction alors qu'il s'agit de la première course de la saison pour toutes les équipes.

Équipe de course


L'organisation confirme qu'environ 125 inscriptions sont déjà faites pour le départ de plusieurs classes tout au long du weekend.

Parmi les pilotes ayant confirmé leur présence, nous notons le champion du Québec dans la classe Pro, Donovan Asselin et son frère, Dave Asselin, tous deux de l'équipe Asselin Racing Ski-Doo.  Chez les femmes, Mégan Brodeur qui figure parmi les meilleures au monde dans la classe pro-women du circuit Isoc sera également présente.  Patrick Brodeur, actuellement 2e au monde dans la classe Vétéran sera aussi sur place.

Quelques pilotes se produiront pour une première fois dans une nouvelle classe dont Jonathan Roberge de Chibougameau de l'équipe KDR Artic Cat sur machine Pro-Open, Samuel Lavoie quant à lui évolue maintenant en prolite et Francis Pelletier passe dans la classe Pro.

Pilote très connu en motocross, Dave Blanchette surnommé, Crazy Dave Blanchette fera ses débuts en snocross sur une KDR Artic Cat.

Ayant des pilotes dans la Beauce au sein de leur équipe de course, l'équipe Team Bégin Villeuneuve est très heureuse de se produire pour une première fois sur leur territoire << Nous avons couru à plusieurs endroits mais ce sera spécial pour nous durant ce weekend car on va le faire devant nos amateurs et commanditaires qui nous encourage depuis longtemps.  Ce sera excitant pour notre équipe car le site est magnifique et nous seront en piste le soir, ce sera magique pour les pilotes>> de dire Luc Villeneuve, coureur dans la classe Pro.

Parmi les autres pilotes provenant de la Beauce, notons la présence de Mathieu Bernard de Saint-Éphrem (classe 600 sports), Cora Roy, une jeune athlète de 16 ans de Saint-Côme qui se produira dans la classe femme.  Évoluant dans la classe transition 8-10, Jacob Bégin (9 ans) sera également en piste le samedi alors que son frère Isaak sera le plus jeune pilote de la transition alors qu'il n'est âgé que de 7 ans.

Les courses

Tenu sur deux jours, l'événement tiendra une première expérience d'une course par élimination HLS Bégin le vendredi soir.  Inspirée du Dominator Duluth au Minnesota, cette soirée mettra en piste 2 coureurs par course et le plus rapide passera à l'étape suivante jusqu'au couronnement du dernier pilote.  Les meilleurs pilotes seront en piste pour cette événement mettant en vedette les classes Pro, Pro-Lite et Sports.  Des bourses seront remises aux gagnants en collaboration avec HLS Bégin de Saint-Georges.  Le coût est de 10$ à l'entrée et le départ des courses se fera à compter de 19 h.

Le samedi, tous les coureurs inscrits dans les différentes classes seront en action tout au long de la journée.  Les pratiques se feront à compter de 14h tandis que les qualifications débuteront à 15h.  Les finales auront lieu en début de soirée, soit à partir de 18 h.  Les billets pour la journée de samedi sont au coût de 20$.

Deux présences à Saint-Félicien

Ayant quelques pilotes de la région, nous sommes heureux de pouvoir leur offrir deux courses à l'Autodrome Saint-Félicien pour la saison 2017. Deux présences qui seront ravir les spectateurs  du coin toujours nombreux à encourager les pilotes de la Série Sportsman Qc.  Pour 2017, la Série Mini Sportsman Méchoui International fera un retour à cet autodrome elle qui était absente depuis 2014.

Un retour après 3 ans d'absences

Au plaisir de nombreux pilotes, la Série Sportsman Qc Lucas Oil fera un retour sur le tracé de l'Autodrome St-Eustache après 3 ans d'absence. Participant à un programme de 75 tours, une soirée remplie d'action nous attend en août prochain !

Présent pour le 25e anniversaire

La Série Sportsman Qc Lucas Oil visitera l'Autodrome Chaudière lors du week-end 25e anniversaire pour sa seule présence en 2017.

 Pour les 4 dernières courses de la finale Sportsman for the cup, les pilotes de la Série Sportsman Qc Lucas Oil se produiront sur 4 pistes différentes ce qui permettra de rehausser le spectacle et de permettre à des pilotes différents de se démarquer.

Nous sommes particulièrement fiers de ce calendrier diversifié pour cette 11e saison de la Série Sportsman Qc Lucas Oil et pour la 4e saison de la Série Mini Sportsman Méchoui International. Peterborough Speedway is Getting Ready for its 50th Anniversary Season

Many businesses would mark a momentous occasion with a red carpet. In racing vernacular, 'red' means stop and Peterborough Speedway has no intentions of slowing down. Even though 2017's first green flag isn't on the agenda until the Victoria Day long weekend, track owner/promoter J.P. Josiasse and the team at Canada's Toughest 3rd of a Mile Paved Oval are already making plans for the venue's 50th anniversary season.

 

"Many things have changed since the days when the track was known as Westgate Speedway," said Josiasse. "One thing that has remained constant over the years is a commitment to give every fan who comes through the gate the best value for their entertainment dollar. We're happy to have the level of support we enjoy every season and courage comments and feedback through our web-site and social media platforms."

 

Josiasse says they're working on some exciting anniversary promotions for the upcoming schedule, but also pointed-out that the popular Country 105 season opener – with free spectator grandstand admission – as well as the 3 Fan Appreciation/Toonie Grandstand Admission Nights – presented by Pepsi – would return in 2017. The track will also host special events featuring OSCAAR, the Lucas Oil Sportsman Cup Series, INEX Ontario Legends and the APC Pro Late Model tour to compliment its regular Saturday night shows throughout the year.

 

"Even with the plans we're working on to mark the 50th Anniversary of the speedway, the official schedule won't be released until the annual Motorama Custom Car and Motorsports Expo – March 10th through 12th – at the International Centre in Toronto," said Josiasse. "From there, we'll also be part of a number of special events that will include displays at the Peterborough Home, Cottage and Country Show – March 31st to April 2nd  – at the Evinrude Centre and at the Lindsay Square Mall, April 23rd through 30th.Fans have come to expect our participation at the pre-season events and we already have a number of drivers and teams lined-up to show-off their new colours."

2017 S'ANNONCE BIEN POUR LES VINTAGES

Alors que les dirigeants de l'Association de stock car Vintage Québec sont à peaufiner les derniers préparatifs de leur banquet annuel qui se tiendra à Trois-Rivières le 21 janvier prochain,  au cours duquel seront honorés les participants de la saison 2016, plusieurs bonnes nouvelles viennent stimuler les organisateurs et les participants à l'aube de cette 10e saison qui se pointe à l'horizon.

 

 

LES P'TITS NOUVEAUX

Tout d'abord, excellentes nouvelles au niveau des nouvelles figures qui feront leur apparition au sein de l'ASCVQ en 2017. Parmi celles-ci mentionnons Daniel Grenier, Patrick Gendron, Sylvain Philibert, Jean-Philippe Baril qui a participé au dernier programme de la saison 2016 à Montmagny, Louison Lapierre, et Jeffrey Guild. De son coté, Jean Duchesneau effectuera un retour, après une absence de quelques saisons, alors que l'équipe Champagne ajoutera une 2e voiture qui sera pilotée par le paternel Pierre-Paul qui a cédé le volant de sa voiture no. 11 à son fils Jean-François en 2016. Parmi les nouvelles voitures, mentionnons la 2e voiture de l'équipe Gervais, le Lucky 7, un modèle des années 30, de même qu'une 3e voiture pour l'équipe Rocheleau, une Rambler Ambassador 1969 dont le pilote reste à déterminer. Tout ce beau monde, et d'autres qui pourraient bien s'ajouter,  travaillent d'arrache-pieds pour être en piste lors du premier programme de la saison.




LE CALENDRIER

Bonnes nouvelles également de ce côté, car au moment d'écrire ces lignes, déjà 6 courses sont confirmées. Deux pistes ont déjà ''levé la main'' pour s'inscrire au calendrier Vintage 2017. L'Autodrome de Montmagny recevra les Vintage à 4 reprises, les 21 mai, 8 juillet, 19 août et 2 septembre, alors que l'Autodrome Chaudière présentera les voitures de l'ASCVQ à deux reprises, les 1er juillet et 5 août. Ajoutons également à ce calendrier une journée de pratiques qui auront lieu à Montrmagny le 13 mai. Des pourparlers sont également en cours avec l'Autodrome St-Eustache et l'Autodrome St-Félicien pour d'autres dates qui seront annoncées, s'il y a lieu.

 

FOND DE POINTS

Tel qu'annoncé lors de la réunion de décembre, pour la première fois de leur histoire les voitures de l'Association de stock car Vintage Québec compétitionneront pour un fond de points en 2017, ce qui procurera aux amateurs une compétition des plus relevée sur toutes les pistes participantes du Québec.

Early Entrants Abound For Expanded PASS Winter Meltdown At Dillon

 

CHARLOTTE, NC (January 13) – With just three weeks left to go until the "Original" Winter Meltdown goes green, Pro All Stars Series (PASS) Super Late Model teams from across North America are beginning to make their final preparations.  This year's fourth running of the early-season event looks to be the biggest yet as the Meltdown moves to its new home at Dillon Motor Speedway.   Northern drivers have dominated the three previous runnings of the PASS Winter Meltdown with New Hampshire's Brad Leighton taking the checkered flag at New Smyrna Speedway in 2010 and Maine's Joey Doiron claiming the victory at Auburndale Speedway in 2013 and backing that up with a victory at Greenville last year.

Once again being on Super Bowl weekend, the PASS Winter Meltdown will be short track racing's first major points event of the year.  The "Original" Meltdown will feature the 12th Annual South Carolina Clash for the PASS Super Late Models and will be bigger than ever before.  The South Carolina Clash will now be 200 laps, paying $6,000 to win, and will give competitors the option to change two tires with 75 laps to go.  The Winter Meltdown will also feature a 75 lap event for the Late Model Stocks paying $1500 to win and an event for the Pro 4s.  The PASS Winter Meltdown will go green on Saturday afternoon, February 4 at 2 PM and will serve as the first race of 2017 for the PASS South Super Late Models and the PASS National Championship Series. Saturday's action will be preceded by an optional practice day for all divisions on Friday afternoon, February 3.

The first batch of PASS Super Late Models entries has been released and includes drivers from all over the United States.  Tate Fogleman, the 2015 PASS South Super Late Model champion, scored his first series win last year at Hickory and will be joined by former South Carolina Clash winner and 2014 PASS South titlist, Tyler Church.  Both North Carolina drivers will be seeking to become the first two-time series champion.  New York youngster Christian Eckes will make his second trip to Dillon Motor Speedway for the Winter Meltdown.  Eckes had several big, late season wins in 2016, including the Snowball Derby and Thanksgiving Classic at Southern National Motorsports Park in Super Late Models and the Myrtle Beach 400 in a Late Model Stock Car.    

Teenager Kodie Conner from Kannapolis, NC will be back after an impressive rookie season in 2016 that saw him finish second at Dillon early in the season.  Conner went on to follow that performance up by just missing out on the PASS South championship to Matt Craig.  New England racers hope to continue their dominance in the Meltdown again this year and are well represented in the early entries. New Hampshire's Derek Griffith and Bryan Kruczek are both former winners in PASS North, while Jay, ME's Dave Farrington, Jr. will also be making his first start at Dillon as he looks to chase both the PASS National and PASS North series championships in 2017.

Third-generation racer Hayes Goodson, from nearby Darlington, is a former winner at Dillon in Late Models and Supertrucks and returns to his home track driving the iconic #16 his father, Hal, made famous, while Mike Speeney will make the move from Tour-type Modifieds over to PASS Super Late Models for his first start.

            Action gets underway at Dillon Motor Speedway Speedway on Friday, February 3 with gates opening at 1 PM and rotating practice for the PASS Super Late Models, Late Models, and Pro 4s from 2 – 5 PM.  On Saturday, February 4, gates will open at 8 AM, with rotating practice from 10 AM – Noon, qualifying at 12:30 PM, and feature events set to go green at 2 PM.
