Raabe Rebounds; Cleveland Dominates

 

PLATTSBURGH – Chris Raabe collected his fifth Egglefield Ford 358 Modified feature win at Airborne Park Speedway on Saturday night.

                Steve Bernier took the lead on lap-4 and led until a lap-15 yellow flag for Jake Scarborough's spin in turn one. Bernier would select the outside lane to restart next to Raabe. On the restart Raabe would pull to the lead, only to have Bernier make contact with him in turn two that would send Raabe's No. 01 machine around. Raabe, however was able to keep the car rolling and continued in the seventh position.

                The yellow flag flew again on lap-26 and Raabe had rallied to the second spot, awaiting an opportunity to get back at Bernier. Bernier elected to restart on the inside, but Raabe aced the restart and drove home to the victory.

                "He definitely got my attention there in turn 2," Raabe said. "I think it fired me up enough to get back in a position to challenge for the win."

                Bernier would finish second with Todd Stone coming home third. Greg Atkins and Simon Perrault completed the top five.

                The Fidelis Care Sportsman point leader, Connor Cleveland, found victory lane for the second time in 2017. Cleveland drove from position twelve on the starting grid to the top spot.

                Chris Cayea led the opening laps of the race before Cleveland would eventually run him down on lap-10. In his progress to the front, Cleveland made two exceptional moves to put him in position to win. One move was three-wide on the cushion out of turn four and the other was a four-wide move in which he was able to slice through the middle of turn two.

                "I saw Moïse had a good run on the bottom and I knew I needed to get to the front and make sure he didn't run away." Cleveland explained in victory lane.

                Moïse Pagé would settle for second with Joey Scarborough finishing third. Nick Heywood rallied from an early spin to finish fourth. Apparent fifth place finished, Adam Gage was disqualified following post-race technical inspection for an ignition infraction. Bucko Branham was placed fifth.

                The Poirier's True Value Renegade division has a first-time winner, however on track winner Shawn Duquette failed post-race technical inspection for a suspension infraction. Michael Wright will inherit the race win. Mark Caron, Jimmy Bushey and Brent Jarvis complete the top five.

                Kris Clark continued his dominance in the Busch Beer Mini-Mod division by scoring his fifth win of the season. Michael Whalen and Roger LaBounty finished second and third, respectively.

                Shawn Walker found victory lane for the second time in the Strictly Stock division. Nathan Smart and Rolland Guay completed the top 3.

WEST HAVEN, Vt. – Devil's Bowl Speedway has cancelled its Asphalt Track racing program on Saturday, August 5, due to rain and saturated grounds.  The event was scheduled to be the sixth annual "C.J. Richards Memorial" sponsored by Carrara Masonry & Concrete for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series, along with an Enduro Series race.

The C.J. Richards Memorial race for the O'Reilly Auto Parts Sportsman Modifieds has been rescheduled for Saturday, August 19, as part of the Rutland Regional Medical Center's annual "Hometown Heroes" Night.  The Enduro Series race has also been added to the program.

Racing at the Dirt Track at Devil's Bowl Speedway is still on as scheduled for Sunday, August 6, with double features for the Sportsman Modified, Super Stock, Mini Stock, and Catamount Mini Sprint divisions presented by Liberty Street Discount Beverage & Deli.  General admission is $12.00 for adults, $10.00 for seniors (62+), $5.00 for teenagers (13-17), and free for kids age 12 and under. Gates open at 5:00 p.m., and racing begins at 6:00 p.m.

Gariepy accède à son premier podium 

C'est ce vendredi 4 août, sur le tracé de l'Autodrome Chaudière, qu'avait lieu la dernière manche du 2e round du Sportsman for the Cup. 

Le #37 Dany Gariepy de Beauport avait déjà donné le ton à sa journée en réalisant le meilleur temps de la 1ere séance de pratique. En 2e séance, le #77 Mickael Isabelle de Shannon a réalisé le meilleur temps suivi par 0,011 seconde par le #41 Samuel Charland de Victoriaville.

Tremblay remporte sa 1ere qualification 

Lors de la première séance de qualification, le #13 Michael Tremblay à bord de sa Chevrolet SS aux couleurs de Centurion Fondation est partie sur la 1ere ligne. Le pilote de Notre-Dame-des-Monts a mené cette qualification de 12 tours avec rapidité ce qui lui a valu la victoire de cette séance. 

Le #22 Louis-Philippe Labrecque  commandité par Ford Appalaches a continué sur sa lancée en remportant la 2eséance de qualification. 

Une finale de 50 tours sur le vert ! 

Le départ pour la finale s'est donné avec le #25 Pier-Luc Labbé de Saint-Joseph-de-Beauce et le #37 Dany Gariepy sur la 1ere ligne. Une course de 50 tours qui s'est dérouléesans aucun arrêt  et qui nous a donné droit à de très beaux dépassements. Si en début de course, les pilotes démontraient des signes d'impatience, les directeurs de courses André Poulin et Dany Côté ont été bien clairs sur leurs intentions en pointant le drapeau noir roulé à titre d'avertissement aux pilotes plus téméraires. 

Prenant les devants vers le 10e tour, le #67 Dominic Jacques de Vallée-Jonction a mené l'épreuve jusqu'à la fin prenant avec une avance sur ces compétiteurs qui, sans ralentissement, n'ont pu le rattraper. 

Le #41 Samuel Charland commandité par Charest International a pris le départ en 5e position. Il a mené une chaude lutte avec le #37 Dany Gariepy pour la 2e position. Son expérience acquise sur le tracé ainsi qu'un pilotage sans faille lui a donné accès à la deuxième marche du podium. 

Quelle belle performance du #37 Dany Gariepy qui remporte son 1er podium en carrière avec la Série. Il a été non seulement très rapide en piste, mais a mené une course exemplaire. C'est avec patience et agilité que le pilote commandité par Pavé Concept obtient, avec sa 3e position, son premier podium avec la Série Sportsman Qc Lucas Oil. Un podium bien mérité après tout le travail mis par son équipe et lui. 

Le top 5 est complété par le #22 Louis-Philippe Labrecque de Saint-Damien et le #88 Xavier Pelchat de Saint-Félicien qui ne cesse de surprendre depuis le début de la saison. 

Avec cette victoire, le #67 Dominic Jacques commandité par Boul Lexus Toyota-Létourno-Centre de l'Auto Vallée-Jonction vient rejoindre le #41 Samuel Charland et le #22 Louis-Philippe Labrecque qui accède tous les 3 à la prochaine étape du Sportsman for the Cup. Suivez le communiqué qui paraitra en début de semaine afin de connaitre les 3 autres pilotes qui y accèderont. 

Prochain programme le 19 août prochain alors que la Série Sportsman Qc fera un retour sur le tracé de l'Autodrome Saint-Eustache.

Barre, Vt. – Barre's Thunder Road hosts the 33rd running of the M&M Beverage Enduro 200 this Sunday, August 6. "The People's Race" is one of the most popular on the schedule every year and is shaping up for another successful outing in 2017.

 

The event routinely draws 100 entries or more with the field full of amateur racers looking to tackle the Barre high banks. Cars will be lined up three-wide to start and there are no yellow flags during the event. The winner will take home $3,000 and bragging rights as the newest Enduro champion. Entry forms will be available the day of the event.

 

"Ever since the Enduro was first held in 1985, it's been part of the tradition of Thunder Road," track co-owner Cris Michaud said. "For some drivers, it's been a stepping stone into becoming a weekly racer. For others, it's a chance to do something once a year that they might not otherwise get to do. Either way, it's one of the most fun events of the year for the drivers and the fans, and we always look forward to it on the calendar."

 

The Allen Lumber Street Stocks will be part of the program as well with the annual Brian Perry & Sons Construction Street Stock Special. The $500-to-win 50-lap event is the biggest of the year for the division and is always a high-octane affair.

 

With a large field expected, the event could also have a major impact on the Street Stock point standings, as just 41 points separate the top seven drivers. Hinesburg's Cooper Bouchard ascended to the head of the class on Thursdayand leads fellow sophomore driver Brandon Lanphear of Morrisville by 11 points with six events remaining.

 

2015 Street Stock Champion Jamie Davis of Wolcott sits 17 points back in his quest for a second title. Alan Maynard, Kevin Streeter, Reilly Lanphear, and Kelsea Woodard are also in the mix, though Maynard's return on Sunday is in doubt after a vicious wreck on Thursday.

 

Post time is 6:00pm for the 33rd M&M Beverage Enduro 200 plus the Brian Perry & Sons Street Stock Special. The pit gates will open at 2:00pm and the front gates will open at 3:00pm. Pre-race safety inspection for Enduro cars begins at12:00pm. Admission is $15 for adults and free for kids 12 and under.

NAPLES, ME (August 3) – In their last opportunity to race prior to the 44th Annual Scott's Recreation Oxford 250 presented by Fastway Trailer Products, the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) North Super Late Models will be back on trackthis Friday night at Lee USA Speedway in New Hampshire.  Coming in to this weekend's action, seven drivers are within striking distance for the championship.  With his win last weekend at Oxford Plains, two-time 250 winner, Travis Benjamin, has taken over the points lead, while Glen Luce, Ben Rowe, and DJ Shaw are all within 50 points of the leader.  Dave Farrington, Jr., six-time PASS North champion, Johnny Clark, and New Hamsphire's own, Derek Griffith, are all still in the thick of the fight of one of the championship contenders has a hiccup at Lee USA Speedway this weeken.

Another strong field is expected for Friday night's action at Lee USA Speedway including former Oxford 250 winners and Granite State natives, Wayne Helliwell, Jr. and Joey Polewarcyzk, along with Todd Stone, Steve Murphy, Derek Ramstrom, Tracy Gordon, John Salemi, Ryan Green, and Garrett Hall.

All the action gets under way on Friday at Lee USA Speedway with rotating practice for all competing divisions starting at 4 – 6:30 PM.  Racing gets under way at 7 PM with heat race action followed by features for the PASS North Super Late Models and NASCAR Whelen All-American Series.

Brandt Graham's Sportsman Cup Series Title Defense Tour Heads 'Home' to Peterborough Speedway

Like a great pair of shoes or your favourite jeans, racecar drivers have certain tracks where they're more comfortable than others. Brandt Graham feels at home at Peterborough Speedway. The 19 year-old from Orono, Ontario spent a great deal of time during his formative years at the venue known as Canada's Toughest 3rd of a Mile Paved Oval. From his father's track championship seasons, to his own Mini Stock racing career and now, as the reigning Lucas Oil Sportsman Cup Series champion, the second-generation speedster always looks forward to the events at the Central Ontario oval.

 

"Many of the places where we race are about a 3-hour drive away from our home base, so its great to be able to race in my own 'backyard'," Brandt Graham said. "I can't hear the fans while we're racing, but I know they're there. I'll sometimes take a look during a caution flag, but just for a second or 2. You have to stay focused on what's happening on the race track."

 

Heading into the Saturday, August 12th event at Peterborough, Brandt Graham is the Lucas Oil Sportsman Cup Series point leader. The talented teenager – who recently graduated from Durham College and now works as a millwright at OPG, Darlington – had a 3-race winning streak – including capturing the 'Boss of the Beach Bonus' at Sauble Speedway – that led to his 2016 title. One of those checkered flags came at the tight, tricky bullring on Mount Pleasant Road, west of the Liftlock City.

 

"It's a track that certainly keeps you on your toes," admitted the young hot shoe. "You're always working hard to get that next position, without a lot of time to relax. It takes a good car to get to the winner's circle and I'm hoping we'll be able to score another checkered flag."

 

The Saturday, August 12th Lucas Oil Sportsman Cup Series event at Peterborough Speedway will also include the home track 4Fun, Mini Stock and Late Model divisions; as well as the Ontario Pro Challenge Series. Pit gates will open at 2:00, with spectator grandstands unlocked at 5:00 and racing getting underway at 6:00.

Les premières historiques ne cesses de se succédées, après les 2 québécois sur le podium Gros-Blocs, samedi dernier la famille Clair au complet ont visité le podium et on retient surtout la victoire du patriarche en Sportsman . Ce samedi 5 août, c'est le retour du désormais célèbre «concours d'arrêt aux puits» pour la catégorie Modifiés. Spectaculaire à souhait, c'est le temps de voir les mécanos en action chronométrés, devant le grand estrade.


Les Modifiés seront an action lors d'une finale de 75 tours. David Hébert mène le championnat par un seul petit point devant Steve Bernard, 545 pts et 544 pts. Mathieu Desjardins est troisième avec 494 pts. Gougeon talonne Desjardins. donc le meneur au championnat peut changer ce samedi!


Dans la catégorie Sportsman, on se remet de nos émotions de la semaine dernière suite à la victoire du vétéran René Clair, 77 ans. Ils seront en piste pour 32 tours d'actions et de surprises. En Sportsman aussi c'est serré au championnat, Dany Gagné mène avec 549 pts, devant Martin Pelletier qui revient en force avec 544 pts. Bryan Cloutier et Félix Murray se font la lutte pour la troisième et quatrième place.


Les Lightning Sprint seront aussi de retour, ces derniers offrent toujours un spectacle de qualité. Les bolides les plus rapides sur la terre battue.


Noté que depuis quatre ans déjà, l'Autodrome Drummond offre l'entrée gratuite pour les gens qui habitent, les villages ou municipalité rurale du Québec, lors d'une soirée de course. Cette année les différents villageois du Québec pourront assister au programme du 5 août gratuitement.

Un 2e départ dans la série ARCA pour Raphaël Lessard en fin de semaine

 

Raphaël Lessard entreprendra son 2e départ de la saison en série ARCA dimanche après-midi au Winchester Speedway dans le cadre du Winchester ARCA 200. Lessard se joint une fois de plus à l'équipe  Venturini Motorsports au volant  de la voiture #25 Musselman's BIG CUP Apple Sauce-Toyota-Camry pour cette course en série ARCA.

 

Lessard, un pilote du programme de développement Toyota (TRD), espère bien profiter de l'expérience de sa dernière course sur cet ovale, la saison dernière, alors qu'il menait la course avec seulement 5 tours à faire dans le cadre du Winchester 400. Malheureusement une relance en fin de course et les jeux de coude qu'on y retrouve souvent l'ont fait glisser et terminer en 6e place.

 

L'ovale du WInchester Speedway est d'une longueur de 0.5 mille (0.8 km) avec des imposantes inclinaisons de 31 degrés dans les courbes et de 9 degrés dans les lignes droites. La première course ARCA au Winchester Speedway remonte à 1957 et son record de piste en qualification est de 15,837 secondes pour une vitesse de 113,658 MPH,obtenu par Ryan Blaney en 2011.

Canadian Championship Returns To Ontario Track

 

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Aug. 2, 2017) – NASCAR will crown its 2017 championship for stock car racing in Canada at the track that helped launch the series. NASCAR and Jukasa Motor Speedway announced today that the season finale for the NASCAR Pinty's Series will be moved to the Hagersville, Ontario, track.

 

The event will be held Saturday, Sept. 23.

 

"We are looking forward to crowning our 2017 NASCAR Pinty's Series champion at Jukasa Motor Speedway," said George Silbermann. "Since the track was re-opened, we have talked about the series' return at some point, and when the opportunity arose to host the finale, they stepped up. The track has substantial history with the NASCAR Pinty's Series and stock car racing in Canada, and it's extremely fitting we crown Canada's national champion there."

 

Due to management changes at Kawartha Downs, NASCAR and Kawartha have agreed to mutually terminate the sanction for the event scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 16.

 

Jukasa, formerly known as Cayuga Speedway, was open from 1966-2009. Through its history, it hosted countless high-profile racing events and notable NASCAR stars from Dale Earnhardt and Bobby Allison to Tony Stewart and Matt Kenseth. The .625-mile paved oval held the inaugural NASCAR Pinty's Series race in May of 2007. It held two races in each of the series' first two years before it closed.

 

The track was purchased in 2016 by Kenny Hill and Jerry Montour, and repaving began in late 2016.

 

"We've made no secret that we're looking to return the track to its status as 'Canada's Crown Jewel,' and hosting the country's championship event is a big step toward that goal," said Jukasa General Manager Alex Nagy. "When NASCAR approached us with the possibility of being added to the schedule, we jumped at the opportunity. A lot of hard work has gone into returning this track to its glory, and the season finale is a perfect stage for us."

 

The track now features banking up to 8.5 degrees with slight banking on the previously flat straightaways. The racing surface has also been expanded to 60 feet. The track sits on more than 350 acres and boasts 1,100 campsites.

 

The NASCAR Pinty's Series just completed its annual swing through western Canada, with Alex Labbe winning two of the three races to take the points leader over Kevin Lacroix and NASCAR Next driver Cayden Lapcevich. The race at Jukasa is one of five events remaining, with the series next racing at Quebec's Circuit de Trois-Rivieres on Sunday, Aug. 13.

Saturday, August 5th Peterborough Speedway hosts the Touring Chase for the Colours Pole Qualifier, with the year's only regular season appearance by the OSCAAR Outlaw Super Late Model and Modified tours. Also on the program will be the OSCAAR Midgets, Pro Midgets and the home track Battlefield Equipment Rental 4Fun and Jiffy Lube Mini Stock divisions. Kicking-off the 2017 Hot August Nights Series with such a high-profile event is sure to pack in the crowd.

 

There have been 5 different Super Late Model feature winners in 6 starts so far this year. Glenn Watson's pair of Kawartha Speedway checkered flags have him leading the point standings by 25 markers over Charlie Gallant. Tyler Hawn, Gary Passer and John Cadman Jr. round-out the Super Late Model top 5. Former Peterborough Speedway regular Cory Horner and Chris Milwain each have a pair of OSCAAR Modified main event wins, with Horner leading the standings by a slim 2-point margin over A.J. Emms, who has yet to score an 'A' main victory. Luke Gignac, Milwain and Gary Elliott complete the top 5 in Modified points. Track owner and promoter J.P. Josiasse says the Hot August Nights Series is the perfect place to showcase the OSCAAR stars.

 

"With the OSCAAR classes after guaranteed starting spots for the 25th running of the Autumn Colours Classic, fans will see a great show," Josiasse said. "Our home track 4Fun and Mini Stock divisions are also on the docket and looking for a boost in the overall standings. There should be some edge of your seat excitement every time the green flag waves."

 

For the Touring Chase for the Colours Pole Qualifier – Saturday, August 5th – pit gates will open at2:00, with the general admission grandstands unlocked at 4:00. The first qualifying heat race rolls to starting line at 6:00. The Super Late Models are slated for a 50-lap feature event, with the Modifieds running a 30 lapper.

Payea seeks to break his own record

SCARBOROUGH, Maine – Scott Payea of Colchester, Vt. will attempt to extend his record-setting American Canadian Tour (ACT) winning streak in the Coastal 100 at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway Saturday, August 5.

 

Payea recently drove the Harrison Redi-Mix Dodge Charger No. 37 to a record fourth straight Late Model win at Seekonk Speedway - despite being passed for the lead twice.

 

The Seekonk victory was Payea's 12th on the American Canadian Tour. It moved him into fifth place on the all-time ACT Late Model win list.

 

Dillon Moltz of Waterford, Conn., Rich Dubeau of Lebanon, NH, Jimmy Hebert of Williamstown, Vt., Jason Corliss of Barre, Vt. and Eddie MacDonald of Rowley, Mass. are among the drivers who will attempt to end Payea's streak.

 

Corliss, an ACT Rookie of the Year contender, is currently fourth in the championship point standings. He finished a close second to Payea at Seekonk.

 

MacDonald has four top-5's in his last four ACT appearances at Beech Ridge including a 2013 win.

 

Beech Ridge Motor Speedway is located on 70 Holmes Road in Scarborough, Maine, one-half mile from the Maine Turnpike.

 

Grandstands open at 3 p.m. Qualifying events begin at 7 p.m. The NASCAR Nites Pro Series, Sport Series and Wildcat divisions will also be in action. Adult admission/$25 – Kids 12 and under admitted free.
