DIRTcar 358 Series Back in Action at Airborne

The Highly-Anticipated Return of the DIRTcar 358 Modified Series to Plattsburgh Airborne Speedway Comes Tuesday, August 20

PLATTSBURGH, NY – August 17 – The best DIRTcar 358 Modified drivers in the Northeast will descend on the Northern New York town of Plattsburgh, NY this coming Tuesday, August 20. The $4,000-to-win 100-lap Feature is presented by Leary Restoration. The tale of the tape so far in 2019 has been the outstanding duel between Mat Williamson and Erick Rudolph. 

So far Williamson has a leg up on Rudolph in the standings but it's only by thirty-five points. Williamson will need to be near perfect to hold on to that lead as Rudolph is red hot in both his 358 Modified and Big Block Modified. Rudolph outdueled Williamson in the last Series race at Utica-Rome Speedway. Neither driver has been finished out of the top five but Williamson's three wins gives him the edge in the standings. 

Plattsburgh Airborne Speedway's very own Mike Mahaney rides in third place and has had this race circled on his calendar since it was announced. The No. 35 Huttig machine has been at the front in Hoosier Racing Tire Weekly Championship action all season long. Can he use home-field advantage to advance on the No. 6 and No. 25R at the top of the standings? 

Newly minted Hall of Famer Danny Johnson has had an impressive showing so far in 358 Modified Series action in his red No. 83x. The Doctor rides in fourth place going into the 100-lapper in Plattsburgh. 

Dave Marcuccilli has found success in the 358 Series and currently sits in fifth place. For years Marcucuccilli has dominated in the DIRTcar Sportsman ranks but in 2019 he's proven his ability to take his 358 to the front. 

Corey Wheeler, Kyle Dingwall, Jordan McCreadie, Ronnie Davis III, and Lance Willix have made all Series race so far in 2019 and they fill out the rest of the top ten. One exception is Tim Fuller, who won the first Series race of the season. Fuller has made four starts but was sidelined for one due to an ankle injury. He's in seventh. 

Current Plattsburgh point leader Steve Bernier will be out to defend the home turf, along with Chris Raabe, Danny Gagne, Jessey Meuller, and others. Drivers from Quebec, the North Country, and Central New York are expected to make this year's tour stop at Plattsburgh one to remember. 

Also on the card are the DIRTcar Sportsman Modifieds for some Hoosier Racing Tire Weekly Championship action. Fans and competitors should note that Wednesday, August 21 has been set up as a rain date.

Jason Hathaway sort indemne d'une fin de course chaotique et gagne au Riverside International Speedway

 

Lorsque Jason Hathaway est revenu pour participer à toutes les rondes en série NASCAR Pinty's, il n'avait qu'un objectif en tête : gagner.

 

Hathaway a atteint son but de façon spectaculaire aujourd'hui, remportant le Bumper to Bumper 300 au Riverside International Speedway dans une fin de course en prolongation palpitante.

 

Pour la troisième année consécutive, Kevin Lacroix disposait de la voiture à battre. Il a dominé la course, menant 195 tours et semblait presque imbattable. Malgré une avance importante à la mi-course, Hathaway et D.J. Kennington se sont rapprochés de lui tour après tour en fin de course.

 

Deux neutralisations dans les derniers tours furent l'occasion de relances intenses au possible, Lacroix poussant la Chevrolet Kubota Canada/Choko No. 3 de Hathaway à la dernière relance pour les deux derniers tours de piste de la course.

 

Le pilote d'Appin, en Ontario, a remis le coup à Lacroix au dernier tour, envoyant la voiture de Lacroix au contact avec celle d'Andrew Ranger.

Hathaway a pu compléter ce dernier tour et remporter sa 10e victoire en carrière, et sa première depuis la finale de la saison 2016 au Kawartha Speedway.

 

"C'était vraiment dingue. Je n'étais même pas sûr que nous allions prendre la tête, la voiture de Kevin était vraiment bonne, a dit Hathaway. "C'était une bataille, Lacroix m'a frappé ;a l'arrière et je lui ai rendu la pareille au virage suivant. Je m'attendais au choc, et lui aussi j'en suis sûr. C'est un bon moment pour obtenir cette victoire, poursuit Hathaway. "Ed Hakonson, le propriétaire de la voiture et mon beau-père, fête ses 70 ans, et je devais lui faire plaisir."

 

D.J. Kennington a mené 20 tours et a réussi à se faufiler à travers le gâchis du dernier tour pour terminer deuxième. Le double champion avait déjà remporté deux victoires à Riverside et était en position pour une troisième jusqu'à ce qu'il du céder la tête de la course à Hathaway au 289e des 300 tours prévus.  L'équipe Castrol Edge n°17 a fêté son deuxième podium en cinq courses.

 

"Les relances étaient vraiment folles – partir de la file extérieure faisait perdre des positions, alors tout le monde se rabattait vers la file intérieure, plus ou moins violemment ", a dit Kennington. "Notre équipe marche de mieux en mieux à chaque course. Nous frappons à la porte et on sera dans le cercle des vainqueurs avant la fin de la saison, j'en suis sûr."

 

Le dernier fracas de tours a permis à Alex Tagliani de se mériter un podium-surprise, en troisième position. L'équipe Rona/EpiPen s'est retrouvée coincée dans le peloton lors de la dernière relance. Le contact entre Lacroix et Hathaway a permis à Tagliani de se faufiler et de ramener son numéro 18 relativement propre à la maison pour son troisième podium de la saison.

 

La course du LP Dumoulin a été pour le moins mouvementée. Après avoir souffert d'un problème mécanique juste avant la pause de la mi-temps, Dumoulin s'est défendu pour une quatrième place, après avoir remonté le peloton de l'arrière deux fois dans la course, doublant onze fois des pilotes rapides ce faisant. Alex Labbe, qui a également souffert de problèmes mécaniques, a complété le top cinq.

 

Lacroix et Ranger, les meneurs dans la course au titre, ont terminé respectivement sixième et septième. L'avance de Ranger est réduite à 11 points.

 

Mark Dilley, Donald Chisholm et Marc-Antoine Camirand ont complété le top dix.

 

Le Bumper to Bumper 300 sera diffusé sur TSN le samedi 24 août à 13 h 30 et RDS2 le vendredi 13 septembre à 22 h 30.

 

La série NASCAR Pinty's Series sera de retour le dimanche 25 août pour le TOTAL Quartz 200 Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.

Jason Hathaway Survives Chaotic Overtime Finish for Riverside Win

 

When Jason Hathaway returned to the NASCAR Pinty's Series full-time, he had one goal in mind – win.

 

Hathaway accomplished his goal in dramatic fashion, winning the Bumper to Bumper 300 at Riverside International Speedway in a thrilling overtime finish.

 

For the third year in a row, Kevin Lacroix had the car to beat. He dominated the race, leading 195 laps and appearing all but untouchable. Despite the sizeable lead, Hathaway and D.J Kennington closed in lap after lap.

 

A pair of late race cautions set up a thrilling pair of restarts. Hathaway's No.3 Kubota Canada/Choko Chevrolet was given the 'chrome horn' by Lacroix once the green flag dropped for the two-lap overtime shootout.

 

The Appin, Ontario driver repaid the favour in the exact same corner, this time on the white flag lap. The contact sent Lacroix up the track and into the side of Andrew Ranger.

 

Hathaway held on for his 10th career win and first since the 2016 season finale at Kawartha Speedway.

 

"That was really crazy. I wasn't even sure we were going to get the lead, Kevin was really good," said Hathaway. "It was a battle, Lacroix got into the back of me in turn three and four and I paid him back in one and two. I was expecting it and I'm sure he was expecting it too."

 

"It's a good way to get a win," continued Hathaway. "Ed Hakonson's 70th birthday; car owner and father-in-law, so I gotta keep him happy."

 

D.J Kennington led 20 laps and managed to sneak through the last lap wreck for a runner-up finish. The two-time champion had two prior wins at Riverside and was in position for a third until losing the lead Hathaway on Lap 289.  The No.17 Castrol Edge team would celebrate their second podium in five races.

 

"The restarts were really crazy. One way to sum it up, it sucks if you were on the outside, you just couldn't get a run," said Kennington. "We're looking better every week, we're knocking on the door and we'll get back to Victory Lane by the end of this season, I'm sure."

 

The last lap fracas enabled Alex Tagliani to score a surprise podium finish, in third. The Rona/EpiPen team found themselves stuck in the pack during the final restart. The contact between Lacroix and Hathaway enabled Tagliani to sneak through and bring his relatively clean No.18 home for his third podium of the season.

 

LP Dumoulin's race was eventful to say the least. After suffering a mechanical problem just before the halftime break, Dumoulin fought back for a fourth-place finish. Alex Labbe, who also suffered mechanical issues, rounded out the top five.

 

Championship contenders Lacroix and Ranger were sixth and seventh, respectively. Ranger's points lead drops to 11 points heading into next week's race.

 

Mark Dilley, pole sitter Donald Chisholm and Marc-Antoine Camirand rounded out the top ten.

 

The Bumper to Bumper 300 will air on TSN on Saturday, August 24 at 1:30 p.m. and RDS2 on Friday, September 13 at 10:30 p.m.

 

The NASCAR Pinty's Series will be back Sunday, August 25 for the TOTAL Quartz 200 at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.

Pinty's Series Competition Continues to Rise

 

For the past 13 years, the NASCAR Pinty's Series has showcased the best drivers that Canada has to offer.

 

With driver backgrounds ranging from the glitz and glamour of open-wheel cars to the grit and ruggedness of local short track drivers, the diversity and strength of drivers now is better than it ever has been. 

 

As drivers come and drivers go, one thing remains the same - once you race against the strong Pinty's competition, the itch never goes away.

 

EHR Team Orange driver Jason Hathaway is a prime example of that. The Stouffville, Ontario driver left full time competition at the end of the 2016 season. He ran part time in 2017 and shifted to a team management role in 2018 with driver Cole Powell. One thing remained during his time off, his passion for the NASCAR Pinty's Series.

 

"I personally think the Pinty's series puts on one of the best racing shows around," Hathaway said. "I would say there's a lot more quality (than other series), so it's really good. We always put on a great show for the fans. They always love it, everybody keeps coming back."

 

One of Hathaway's favourite things is the fact that even after a two-year absence the level of competition has continued to rise.

 

"There's a big difference in competition in the fields, much tighter I would say between the top eight and 12 cars. There's no real advantage anywhere," Hathaway added. "It all comes down to driver and setup. There used to be a little bit of engine advantage, or maybe even car advantage but mostly everybody's got new cars or new equipment and everything else.

 

"Nobody has a real leg up on anyone."

 

Alex Labbe, the 2017 series champion, also took some time away from the series, spending 2018 competing full-time in the NASCAR Xfinity Series season with DGM Racing. Labbe scored a best finish of ninth at Mid-Ohio, and has spent the first half of 2019 transitioning back to full-time Pinty's competition where he replaced Adam Martin at Jacombs Racings.

 

Even though his absence was only for one season, Labbe has noticed how stiff the competition has become.

 

"There's a lot of good teams, obviously everybody is working hard on their programs," Labbe said. "The cars are better and better. When you see all the different winners this year, obviously Andrew and Kevin have really solid season, but there are always contenders that are really close. It's a lot of fun to race with them."

 

Labbe's Xfinity Series experience has helped him grow as a driver.  It's also given him the first-hand perspective of racing in one of NASCAR's national series.

 

"I think both series get tougher and tougher every year obviously and it's as tough as it ever has been here, so it's a lot of fun," Labbe said. "I mean the top five, top seven every race, we're fighting hard and it's good competition."

 

 

NEWS AND NOTES

 

Riverside Welcomes NASCAR

 

Riverside International Speedway is one of the only three tracks that has hosted races since the NASCAR Pinty's Series' inaugural season in 2007. It is also the only oval on the­­­­­ list. 

 

In its first 12 races, Riverside has produced some intense racing and major championship implications. Each of the past four series champions have won this race (Scott Steckly in 2015, Cayden Lapcevich in '16, Labbe in '17 and L.P. Dumoulin last year). In fact, eight of the 12 races have been won by the eventual champion.

 

Andrew Ranger currently holds a 14 point lead over Kevin Lacroix and is looking to extend that streak.  In nine career races in Antigonish, Ranger has one win, five top fives and six top 10s. The win, coincidentally, came in 2009, Ranger's second championship season.

 

 

Time running out for championship contenders

 

With only five races remaining in the 2019 season, opportunities are slowly closing for championship contenders. While Kevin Lacroix is only 14 points behind points leader Andrew Ranger, only two other drivers are with 60 points of the championship lead. 

 

L.P. Dumoulin sits third, 20 points out of the lead with Alex Tagliani fourth, 37 points back. Fifth-place D.J. Kennington is currently 63 points behind Ranger. While not an insurmountable lead, Kennington – and all drivers behind him – would need to go on a major run, and get some assistance from those ahead of them.

 

Lacroix and Tagliani are each winless in three career starts at the track.

22 Racing Head to Riverside International Speedway in Nova Scotia for Event Nine in NASCAR Pinty’s Series

Milverton, ON, Friday August 16, 2019:   Event number nine on the thirteen race 2019 NASCAR Pinty's Series schedule takes place this Saturday August 17th at Riverside International Raceway in Antigonish Nova Scotia.  It is a favourite spot on the tour with its high banks, tight confines and fast paced action.
 
Alex Tagliani driver of the #18 Rona/EpiPen Chevrolet comes into Riverside with three previous starts, all top 10 finishes, and 164 laps led.  Tagliani is coming off a strong showing at the Grand Prix de Trois Rivieres where he led laps and was in the hunt for the win.  He will be looking to finish strong to stay in contention for the national championship.
 
Marc-Antoine Camirand driver of the #22 GM Paille Chevrolet Camaro is making his third start at Riverside International Speedway. In 2015 Camirand was one of only two drivers to finish on the lead lap so he knows how to get around this track.  Look for him to be pushing hard and running up front.
 
Donald Theetge driver of the #24 Mercedes-Benz St. Nicolas/Circuit Acura event is looking forward to getting back on the ovals where he is the strongest.  After a good showing at Trois Rivieres with a tenth-place finish, Theetge is hoping to notch his first podium of the season at this fast 1/3 mile high banked oval that is frequently referred to as the Bristol of the north.

NASCAR practice will take place at 12:30 p.m. followed by qualifying at 3 p.m.  The autograph session will take place at the top of the grandstands at 5:10 p.m. with the green flag for the Bumper to Bumper 300 at 7:45 p.m.  For more information on tickets and weekend events please visit riversidespeedway.ca

Électrification du transport collectif au Québec - La STL dévoile le premier autobus électrique urbain d'une autonomie de 250 km au Québec

LAVAL, QC, le 15 août 2019 /CNW Telbec/ - En présence de la députée deVimy, Mme Eva Nassif, au nom du ministre de l'Infrastructure et des Collectivités, l'honorable François-Philippe Champagne, du ministre des Transports et ministre responsable de la région de l'Estrie, M. François Bonnardel, et du maire de la Ville de Laval, M. Marc Demers, la Société de transport de Laval (STL), a présenté le premier autobus électrique d'une autonomie de 250 km qui servira aux tests et validations en prévision de la mise en service en 2020 de la première ligne d'autobus 100% électrique à recharge lente au Québec. Cette ligne sera composée de 10 autobus acquis dans le cadre du plus important contrat accordé au Québec pour la production d'autobus électriques. En collaboration avec l'Association du transport urbain du Québec (ATUQ), la STL a lancé le projet d'acquérir 10 autobus électriques de 40 pieds. La Société de transport de Montréal (STM) s'est jointe à l'appel d'offres pour en commander 30 autres.

En plus d'éviter l'émission de 70 à 80 tonnes de gaz à effet de serre (GES) par année, l'autobus électrique offre une conduite plus douce et surtout plus silencieuse pour nos clients. L'autobus possède une autonomie de 250 km et sera rechargé la nuit au garage, assurant ainsi la flexibilité du service de la STL grâce à ce type de véhicules. C'est l'entreprise canadienne New Flyer Industries Canada ULC qui a pour mandat de fabriquer les autobus électriques pour la STL, dont la livraison est prévue à l'été 2020.

L'acquisition de ces autobus est rendue possible grâce à une aide financière de 9,6 millions de dollars des gouvernements du Canada, par l'entremise du Fonds de la taxe sur l'essence fédéral (FTE), et du Québec dans la mise en œuvre du Programme d'aide aux immobilisations en transport en commun de la Société de financement des infrastructures locales du Québec (SOFIL). Le gouvernement du Canada versera un montant de 6,8 millions de dollars, tandis que le gouvernement du Québec accordera une aide financière de 2,8 millions de dollars.

Je suis donc très heureux de participer aujourd'hui à cette inauguration et j'espère que cette initiative suscitera un effet d'entraînement auprès des autres sociétés de transport au Québec. », a déclaré le ministre des Transports et ministre responsable de la région de l'Estrie M. François Bonnardel.

« Grâce à la volonté de la STL d'être toujours plus innovante, nous accueillons aujourd'hui le premier véhicule 100 % électrique qui préviendra l'émission de 70 à 80 tonnes de GES annuellement. Cet engin avant-gardiste contribuera, d'une part, à améliorer l'environnement et, d'autre part, à rendre l'expérience des usagers plus agréable étant donné qu'il est silencieux. L'autobus électrique s'inscrit clairement dans nos visées d'avenir! », a soutenu le maire de Laval, M. Marc Demers.

 « Leader en électrification depuis 2012, la STL franchit aujourd'hui une étape significative de la conversion de son réseau en accueillant ce nouvel autobus électrique. Nous carburons à l'énergie positive et nous poursuivons l'objectif de réduire de 45 % nos émissions de GES d'ici 2028, et c'est à l'aide de ces véhicules à recharge lente que nous y arriverons. Dès 2024, l'achat d'autobus à carburant sera chose du passé à la STL », a affirmé M. Éric Morasse, président du conseil d'administration de la STL.

Milverton, ON, August 13, 2019:  Chandler Smith, a Kyle Busch Motorsports protégé will be behind the wheel of the #26 entry prepared by 22 Racing at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in August.  This will be the seventeen-year old Smith's first entry in the NASCAR Pinty's Series and his first road course event.  Smith will join 22 Racing regulars Alex Tagliani in the #18, Marc-Antoine in the #22 and Donald Theetge in the #24 to bring the total to four entries.
 
"I am very pleased to be working with Chandler and Toyota Racing Development and preparing a car for them for this NASCAR Pinty's Series event at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP) in August," said Scott Steckly team owner.  "He tested with us earlier this year and it was his first road course experience.  We were all pleasantly surprised with how quickly he settled in and started posting quick laps.  He will be a welcome addition to our team for this race."
 
"I am really excited to be with the 22 Racing team and with the good races they have been having definitely gives more confidence to me as a driver," said Chandler Smith.  "We had a really good test when we went to Canadian Tire Motorsport Park and I'm ready to get back again."
 
Seventeen-year-old Chandler Smith has competed in nine ARCA races in 2019 and has 4 poles, 4 wins, 7 top 5's and 659 laps led.  In the Gander Outdoor Truck Series, he has had two starts this year with 1 pole, 2 top 10's and 55 laps led.  In 2018 he competed in 9 of the 20 ARCA series races winning two and leading 763 laps to go on and win the Valvoline Lap Leader Award while competing in less than half of the series events that year.

Treat yourself to an action-packed evening of family motorsports entertainment for just $2.00. Pepsi presents the season's 3rd and final Summer Toonie/Fan Appreciation Night – Saturday, August 17th – at Peterborough Speedway.


This weekend's on track attraction is a 50 lap Late Model feature, plus the hometown Battlefield Equipment Rental Bone Stock, Trent Lakes Complete Plumbing Renegade Truck and KOD Disposal Super Stock divisions; along with the travelling Ontario Pro Challenge Series. Pit gates will open at 1:30, with the spectator grandstands unlocked at 4:00 and the first heat race on the track at 5:00. The night's intermission feature will be a fan appreciation autograph session. 


"We're smack-dab in the middle of the homestretch of the 2019 regular season and teams are looking to score as many points as possible toward the track title," said Peterborough Speedway owner/promoter J.P. Josiasse. "The standings are tight right across the board and it looks like the chase in our weekly divisions will come right down to the wire before things are settled for the year at the Saturday, August 31st Championship Clash."


Its not too early to start making plans for the 27th annual running of the Autumn Colours Classic. The Super Bowl of Stock Car Racing – presented by Lucas Oil Products – is scheduled to hit the track at the tight, tricky bullring on Mount Pleasant Road October 11ththrough 13th. Fans will see the OSCAAR Modified, Hot Rod and Pro Sprint divisions, their Saturday night favourite Bone Stock, Mini Stock and Super Stock runners, the Electric City 167, a combined Late Model/Pro Late Model main event and more. Trois-Rivières (Québec, Canada), le 12 août 2019. Jean-François Dumoulin et les équipiers #04 Spectra Premium | Groupe Bellemare | Trois-Rivières Mitsubishi | MIA | Bernier Crépeau Chrysler Fiat peuvent dire « mission accomplie » ce week-end : de la préparation des quatre voitures à la stratégie de course, ils étaient prêts. Le pilote Spectra Premium | Groupe Bellemare | Trois-Rivières Mitsubishi | MIA | Bernier Crépeau Chrysler Fiat a connu une course à son image : combative et contrôlée avec une pointe de vitesse de plus en plus incisive à l'approche de la fin de la course. Onzième sur la grille de départ, suite aux soubresauts de la météo qui a causé l'annulation des séances d'essais et de qualifications, Jean-François Dumoulin s'est rapidement frayé un chemin jusqu'au top-6. Un arrêt aux puits pour cause de crevaison lente (20e tour) n'a pas freiné l'élan de Jean-François Dumoulin. Il a effectué plusieurs dépassements stratégiques jusqu'au peloton de tête (36e tour), réalise le meilleur chrono de tout le peloton au 38e tour (1 :07.879) et maintient sa troisième position jusqu'au drapeau à damiers.
 
« Nous avions une super voiture de course ! » s'exclame Jean-François Dumoulin. Le premier arrêt aux puits pour le carburant a été efficace et au troisième tour, je me suis battu avec Hathaway, touché le mur et le pneu avant droit a subi une légère fuite. Le comportement de la voiture n'était plus optimal et j'ai dû entrer de nouveau aux puits. Toutefois, la relance a été rapide et les dépassements se sont enchaînés. J'étais en excellente position à la troisième place et nous avons pris la décision de terminer la course ainsi. Je suis tellement fier pour notre équipe, LP a gagné la course et nous avons travaillé si fort pour préparer ces quatre voitures, dont celles de Raphaël Lessard et Jean-Frédéric Laberge. Première fois sur le podium ensemble pour nous et cela arrive à Trois-Rivières ! C'est la meilleure façon de remercier nos partenaires Spectra Premium | Groupe Bellemare | Trois-Rivières Mitsubishi | Motorsports In Action | Bernier Crépeau.
 
Raphaël Lessard a relevé le défi et s'est démarqué en passant de la 15e à la septième position, alors qu'il roulait pour la première fois en circuit routier dans la série NASCAR Pinty's. Jean-Frédéric Laberge a été impliqué dans un incident de course au 28etour et a terminé en 16e position.

« 50 ans sur le volant » pour la famille Dumoulin

La famille Dumoulin ne pouvait rêver d'un meilleur scénario pour célébrer leurs « 50 ans sur le volant » et la 50e édition du Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières. Non seulement père et fils se sont retrouvés en piste ensemble pour la première fois, mais en plus, ils vivent un moment historique en réalisant un doublé sur le podium (Victoire et troisième place) chez eux, devant leurs partenaires, familles, amis et fans.    

Richard Dumoulin a été mis à l'honneur hier alors qu'il a eu l'opportunité de rouler de nouveau dans une Mini de l'époque où il courait au Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières. Et pas n'importe quelle Mini, celle de Michel Barrette qui a généreusement accepté de lui prêter et qu'elle soit lettrée aux couleurs de l'époque. Les 50 ans en piste de la famille Dumoulin resteront gravés à jamais dans la mémoire. Grande appréciation à Martin D'Anjou de Festidrag et Dominic Fugère, directeur général du Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières qui ont orchestré cet hommage.

À l'occasion des « 50 ans sur le volant » de la famille Dumoulin, les amateurs de course qui n'ont pas pu découvrir « L'Espace Dumoulin » l'an dernier, auront la possibilité de le faire cette année, puisque l'exposition se poursuit. Vous aurez l'occasion de voir la création de Luc Pilon qui a inspiré le logo des 50 ans.

Montreal, August 11, 2019 – Alex Tagliani took the lead on lap 20 and led the next 25 of 50 laps in round eight of the NASCAR Pinty's series held Sunday at the Grand Prix of Trois-Rivières (GP3R), but lost command of the race when he avoided a backmarker spinning out of control on lap 45. The mishap enabled Louis-Philippe Dumoulin to pass Tagliani and go on to win the race. To avoid the spinning car of rookie TJ Rinomato, Tagliani had no other choice but to take the long way around on the outside line, while LP took the inside track to get ahead of Tag. Jean-François Dumoulin finished third.
 
"It was a very good race result for the team and 22 Racing did a fantastic job by giving me a great car," Alex Tagliani said. "We have a pretty good average on this track. Of course, when you win two in a row at the Grand Prix of Trois-Rivières, you want a third one, but in racing, when you finish second, you need to be happy with the results.
 
"The end of my race could have been disastrous when I encountered car 02 (of TJ Rinomato) because I only had a fraction of second to avoid it. And because I was the first one on the scene and there were no flags displayed to indicate the danger, I made a choice. On the other hand, LP (Dumoulin) who was behind me, had a little more time to react and he made the right choice. When I moved to the outside, I picked up tire residue and it took two or three corners to clean my tires. When everything came back to normal, LP was more than one second ahead of me and with closely matched cars, it was impossible for me to catch him with so little time left in the race.
 
 "As for car set ups, the team was conservative with the Chevrolet #18RONA/ EpiPen/St Hubert Spectra Premium in order to preserve the tires, but in foresight, we should have been more aggressive."
 
Rain, rain, it just won't go away
The 21 NASCAR Pinty's drivers entered in Sunday's "Les 50 Tours Hotel Le Concorde" took the race green flag with only 35 minutes of total track time, as heavy rains washed out much of Saturday. The early afternoon practice session was cut short when downpours caused a safety issue for the six drivers who decided to take the track. A thunderstorm then washed out the late afternoon qualifying session. However, drivers were able to set up their cars during a special Sunday morning 30-minute warm-up session. The starting grid was set per the NASCAR rulebook with Andrew Ranger and Kevin Lacroix on the front row. Alex started fourth on the outside of LP Dumoulin.
 
Twenty-one drivers started the race with 17 crossing the finish line at the end of the Grand Prix of Trois-Rivières.  Fifteen cars finished on the lead lap. The race was under full course caution three times for a total of 14 laps.
 
In his last five NASCAR Pinty's start at GP3R, Tagliani has finished, five times on the podium, winning twice. In 79 NASCAR Pinty's starts, Tag has claimed ten poles, won 9 races, finished 34 times in the Top-5 and 54 in the Top-10.

In the driver standings:
Andrew Ranger, who finished eighth at the GP3R, still leads the standing with 348 points, but his lead on Kevin Lacroix, who finished fourth on Sunday, was reduced to 14 points. Race winner LP Dumoulin is still third with 328 points but is closing in on Lacroix, while Tag has shaved seven points from Ranger's lead and remains in fourth with 311 points. DJ Kennington rounds out the top five, 63 points off the pace.
 
Next stop: Riverside Speedway, Nova Scotia
The NASCAR Pinty's Series heads east to the Maritimes for Round 9 of the NASCAR Pinty's Series that will run Saturday, August 17 on the Riverside Speedway oval track in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. Starting time for the Bumper to Bumper 300-lap is around 5:30 p.m. Atlantic Time Zone.
