PASS North Super Late Models take on Speedway 660 Saturday
The Pro All Star's trip to the Geary Woods oval on Saturday June 11 will mark the first extra distance event of the season and 200 green flag laps around this tight little oval is always a challenge. It's a trip that the American teams look forward to each season and a grandstand packed with avid race fans is one of the reasons why. . Speedway 660 has hosted PASS on four occasions and it's no surprise that the series winning-est driver has two victories to his credit. Ben Rowe has won at both 150 lap (2002) and 200 lap (2009) distances and defending PASS North Champion Johnny Clark claimed his win in 2010. Both will return to New Brunswick Saturday and try to add to their tally. The late Scott Fraser claimed one for the Maritimers when the race ran 150 laps in 2003. There's a strong contingent of Canadian racers expected to defend their home turf, and there's plenty of teams that can go toe to toe with the best New England has to offer. Lonnie Sommerville has teamed up with Mulkern Racing to try and become the first Canadian racer to win a PASS North championship and early on he is right in the mix. Sommerville is third in the standings, just nine back from point leader Ben Rowe. He's had plenty of success at Speedway 660 and he has to be considered a favorite. Sommerville, Shawn Turple and Quebec's Alex Gingras finished fourth through sixth in the PASS North season opener at Beech Ridge and Sommerville followed up with another fourth place run at Star Speedway. It's a proven fact that top fives with a dash of top threes is the key to a PASS North title and Sommerville is right on track. In addition to Clark, Rowe and Sommerville, there's a host of hard chargers on the pre entry list. Richie Dearborn will make a rare Maritime appearance, a racer that's a threat whenever he takes to the track. Home towner Matt Matheson has started both 2011 PASS North races and sits thirteenth in the point standings. Travis Benjamin, Scott Alexander, Scott Chubbuck, John Dabrowski, PASS rookie Kyle DeSouza, Joey Doironm, Mike Rowe, Gary Smith and Kirk Thibeau are all making the trip, setting up yet another 200 green flag lap showdown on the challenging Speedway 660 oval. The Pro All Stars are joined by Speedway 660's Sportsman and Street Stocks on Saturday night's program. The first green flag is scheduled to drop at 7:00 PM. Speedway 660 is just off the Trans Canada Highway Exit 303 on Route 660 (Branch Road). For more information be sure to visit www.proallstarsseries.com and www.speedway660.com . |
