On the NASCAR restrictor plate race tracks like Talladega and Daytona, a large group of cars travelling in a pack is an all too common sight.  The Grassroots Racing Series at Kawartha Speedway has provided some outstanding racing in every division during its inaugural campaign and Friday, July 18th they're hosting an event they're billing as 'The Big One'.

With the first green flag at 7:00, fans will see a full 5 division show with Late Model, Thunder Car, Mini Stock, 4Fun and Inex Ontario Legends racing, but the excitement doesn't end there.  Series promoter Andrew McFadden says his team is pulling out all the stops to show fans and race teams from across the province what they've been missing.

"We already know that Kawartha Speedway is the premiere motorsports facility in the province and we're committed to putting together a marquee event that is worthy of a track with this stature," McFadden confirmed.  "To start with, we're looking to build car counts to where we've always believed they should be, so we'll be awarding a $1000 purse bonus - paid-out through the field - to the division with 20 or more entries.   There will also be a $500 dividend paid to the race team in any division sending 500 fans through the general admission gates on race day."

McFadden also revealed that the driver who finishes 3rd in the Late Model 'A' main will take away an extra $250 in payout and events will wrap-up with an endurance shootout for 4, 6 and 8 cylinder cars paying $300 to win, based on 15 entries in the 4/6 cylinder and 15 in the 8 cylinder classes being received by Thursday, July 17th.

"A number of people and businesses have been behind what we're doing since day one, so we want to show how much we appreciate their commitment and dedication," said McFadden.  "We'll have a Fan Appreciation autograph session and also invite our many sponsors to the track to see the show.  Whether they've put up a poster in their storefront, made a product or financial contribution, they've all helped build the Grassroots Racing Series brand and working together toward a common goal is what it's all about".

The Grassroots Racing Series Summer Showdown - Friday, July 18th - at Kawartha Speedway is an event to mark on your calendars and will also include a display from the Corvettes of Durham Car Club.  Pit gates will openat 3:00, with rotating practice sessions running from 4:30 to 6:30 and the night's first green flag at 7:00.  Pit gate admission is $25 per person.
