Ontario Modifieds Racing Series to Spend 3 of the Next 4 Saturday Nights at Peterborough Speedway

After a dreary, rainy weekend that saw nearly every motorsports event in the province fall victim to the wrath of Mother Nature, the Ontario Modifieds Racing Series – powered by Torque Builders Inc. – is ready for a busy month of July that will see its drivers and teams spend 3 of 4 weekends at Canada's Toughest 3rd of a Mile Paved Oval.
With car counts averaging close to 20 at each event so far this season, OMRS is happy to see the continued growth in the popular open wheeled racing series. Bill Pickford – speaking on behalf of the tour's group of officials that also includes Randy Hollingsworth and Richard Warnes – says this year's events and the recent 'Test a Modified' day have created a positive vibe in the motorsports community.
"There is always room for improvement, but I think we're moving in the right direction," admitted Pickford. "We started 2015 with a handful of drivers competing for the rookie of the year honours and if the early buzz is any indication, that statistic could be even higher when we wave the first green flag next season. Creating an affordable – yet very competitive – racing series has proven itself to be popular with drivers, teams and the fan base."
The trio of Peterborough Speedway events gets rolling Saturday, July 4th as part of the track's annual Autism Awareness Night. A week later – Saturday, July 11th – will be the year's second Toonie Spectator Grandstand Admission/Fan Appreciation Night and after an off-week, the Ontario Modifieds Racing Series joins the fun at the Mid-Summer Bash – presented by Country 105 – Saturday, July 25th at the tight, tricky bullring on Mount Pleasant Road, west of the Liftlock City. Pickford says the upcoming stretch is an exciting time for everyone associated with the OMRS brand.
"This is about as close as we'll come to being a weekly series and our drivers are excited about getting these shows under their belts," said Pickford. "Many of our drivers moved into the series after getting started at Peterborough, so it'll be a homecoming of sorts. We've always enjoyed a positive working arrangement with J.P. Josiasse, Dave Sikma and the staff, so it promises to be a good experience for everyone and we're all looking forward to it."
