Swallow Has His Day at Speedway 51
Groveton, NH- Stark NH's Shawn Swallow (04) broke through for his first North Country Ford Late Model victory and did it in fitting fashion on Swallow & Sons Concrete Mid Season Championship Night. With countless friends and family in attendance Swallow left no doubt who had the best car by winning the first and third of the three 25 lap segments and finished 3 points ahead of runner ups Derek Ming (5) and Beetle Bailey (2). A sea of people surrounded an emotional Swallow in victory lane who finally saw all his and his teams hard work pay off. Ming ended up second overall getting the spot over Bailey on the tiebreaker. Groveton's Mike Kenison (3) and Doug Laleme (74) completed the top 5.
After struggling in the opening Sign Depot Tiger Sportsman segment, Craftsbury, VT's Joel Hodgdon (36vt) and the car he affectionately refers to as "Stupid" went into beast mode winning the final 2 segments and claiming his second straight victory and third of the season. Family was the key word of the day at Speedway 51 as Hodgdon celebrated in victory lane with his fiancé and his baby girl. Despite a strong runner up finish by Brendon Moodie (94) the Wolcott, VT driver surrendered the points lead to Hodgdon with double points on the line. Newcomer Doug Crowningshield (14) just edged out fellow 1st timer Jason Woodard (68) for third Place while Colby Bourgois (82) rounded out the top 5.
Jaden Perry (92) of Hardwick, VT capitalized on a win in the Schweppes Street Stocks first segment and a fourth place finish in the second to take his first victory of 2016 edging out Duxbury, VT's Reilly Lanphear (21). Point leader Bunker Hodgdon (83) was able to recover from a tough first segment where he got together with Lanphear while racing for second to take home third overall edging Jared Plumley (12) on the tie breaker. Dylan Laleme (4) secured a top 5 finish with a win in segment 2.
Garrett LaBounty (76) won his second race in a row and took sole possession of the points lead in the A.B. Excavating Dare Devil division. Labounty got to the front of the field on the outside line and after battling Evan Hallstrom (1) for a handful of laps he was able to make his way to the front and would hold on for the win. Hallstrom was able to keep the hard charging Kasey Beattie (45) behind him after a late restart to finish second. Josh Plumley (12) finished fourth followed by Scottie Tibbetts (04).
Robbie Curtis (8) beat a firld of 13 to win the second race of the White Mountain Community College Pure Stocks 5 race Shoot Out. Curtis started fifth in the feature but quickly got to the front, after a couple laps he was able to get around Kevin Keane (07) and he wouldn't look back. Keane came home second despite having a tire going down on the last lap. Todd Derrington got to the bumper of Keane in the final corner but had to settle for third. Nate Swallow (04) and Jaime Swallow Sr (11) finished fourth and fifth respectively.
