Labor Day Weekend at Airborne
PLATTSBURGH- Labor Day Weekend is upon us and that means the racing season is winding down at Airborne Park Speedway. Just four point counting events remain for the three regular racing divisions.
The Ernie's Discount Tools Sportsman Modifed point battle is coming down to four-time defending champion, Nick Heywood and the veteran racing professor, Bucko Branham. Heywood leads the division with eight wins and 908 points. Branham has collected three wins and 889 points, 19 out of the top spot. This weekend, the Sportsman Modifieds will run double features and will be a perfect opportunity for Branham to cut into the differential between himself and Heywood.
50 laps will be the scheduled distance this weekend for the Jeffords Steel Renegade Division. The all-time winningest driver in the division, Robert Gordon has three wins and 759 points to lead the division. Defending champion, Richie Turner, also has three wins but sits 29 points back with 730.
The Busch Beer Mini Modifieds will run double features this weekend. Dale O'Neil has dominated the division, picking up 11 wins on the season and accumulating 821 points. Josh LaPorte sits second in points with three wins and 772 points.
Racing action begins at 7 p.m. on Saturday, with gates opening at 4 p.m. Pit gates will open at 3 p.m. Admission prices for the Labor Day show will be $12 for adults, $3 for kids ages 6-12 and $25 for two adults and two children.
