THE RING BROTHERS-BUILT PRESTONE JAVELIN DEFIANT!
WILL BE ON DISPLAY AT THE TORONTO MOTORAMA SHOW
March 9, 10 & 11, 2018 at Toronto's International Centre
TORONTO, ON // MARCH 2, 2018 • One of the highlights of the SEMA show in Las Vegas last fall was the unveiling of a stunning 1972 AMC Javelin AMX in the Prestone booth.
Built by the legendary Ring Brothers and dubbed "Defiant!" the car is powered by a 6.2-litre Hemi Mopar Hellcat engine, fitted with a Whipple 4.5-litre Supercharger that produces 1,036 horsepower!
But it's Jim and Mike Rings' incredible attention to design and detail that has made the car the attention magnet it's become in the months since its debut.
Defiant! will make its Canadian debut at the Motorama Custom Car & Motorsports Expo Presented by Mothers. The show takes place March 9, 10 & 11 at Toronto's International Centre.
Arguably the wildest custom vehicle ever to come out of the Ring Brothers shop in Wisconsin, its extreme appearance, cutting-edge construction techniques and four-digit horsepower output have made it the hottest build in the industry.
Commissioned by Prestone, the Ring Brothers were approached to build a special vehicle. Turns out Jim and Mike already had a canvas in mind – a 1972 Javelin that had been rolling around their hometown for over four decades.
With a 12-month deadline until the 2017 SEMA show, the duo went to work digitally designing their vision, and then building it in their machine shop and carbon fiber facility.
The Rings extended the Javelin's wheelbase by moving the wheels forward six and a half inches. The car's distinctive wheel arches were moved forward and recreated in carbon fiber to pair with a new hood, front fenders, grille and front valance. Other custom details include tail lights, bumpers, trim and engine bay accessories all machined out of blocks of aluminum at the Ring Brothers facility.
"I was at the Prestone booth at SEMA (below) when Jessi Combs introduced the Ring Brothers and talked with them about the car," said Motorama co-promoter Greg MacPherson. "There was a huge crowd and everyone gasped when they pulled the cover off. It's a beautiful car and people were all over it for long periods of time checking out every minute detail.
"We couldn't believe it when we heard that there was a possibility that Defiant! could come to the Toronto Motorama show. Thank you to Prestone and Mike O'Connor of the Evolution / Gem-Sen Group of Companies for making this happen!"
In addition to bringing the Prestone Javelin to Motorama, Prestone is also giving a jug of anti-freeze to every car in competition in the custom car and hot rod categories. Vehicle owners who have displayed the product beside their vehicles throughout the show will be eligible for thePrestone Cool Pick Award and a special prize.
