Montréal, le 31 mai 2011 -  Grâce notamment au soutien des concessionnaires Chrysler-Jeep-Dodge-Ram du Québec, Alexandre Tagliani aura la chance, les 19 et 20 août prochain de disputer deux épreuves de séries NASCAR, lors du NAPA Pièces d'auto 200 présenté par Dodge. Devant son public au circuit Gilles-Villeneuve, le pilote de Lachenaie participera en levée de rideau au NAPA Autopro 100, l'épreuve de la série canadienne de NASCAR avant de prendre le départ de l'épreuve de 200 miles de la série Nationwide. Dans la première épreuve, il sera au volant d'une Dodge Avenger préparée par l'équipe de Dave Jacombs et dans la seconde, en série Nationwide, il sera cette fois au volant d'un Dodge Challenger et ce, exceptionnellement pour la course de Montréal. Chacune des voitures de Tagliani affichera le numéro 12.

Montreal, May 31, 2011 - Thanks to the support from the Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge and Ram Quebec Dealers, Alex Tagliani will have the chance to compete in two NASCAR races the weekend of August 19 and 20 during the NAPA Auto Parts 200, presented by Dodge. As the curtain rises on the weekend and before his home crowd at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, the Lachenaie, Quebec driver will participate in the NAPA Autopro 100, NASCAR's Canadian Series event, before taking the green flag for the 200-mile NASCAR Nationwide Series race. For the first event, Tagliani will be at the wheel of a Dodge Avenger prepared by Dave Jacombs Racing. For the main event, he will drive a Dodge Challenger. Both of Tagliani's racecars will support the number 12.

Tagliani poursuit depuis maintenant plus d'une décennie une carrière professionnelle en sport automobile, entreprise après son apprentissage en Formule Atlantique. Il a pris le départ de centre soixante-trois courses en séries pour monoplaces nord-américaines où son palmarès indique une victoire, trente-quatre top-5, quatre-vingt sept top-10 et cinq poles, dont celle toute récente de l'édition du centenaire du « Indy 500 ». Du coup, Alexandre est devenu le premier coureur canadien a revendiqué un tel exploit. En NASCAR, il a participé à treize épreuves de la série canadienne, dont trois au circuit Gilles-Villeneuve. Il revendique une victoire, deux top-5, trois top-10 et deux poles. En série Nationwide, il compte deux départs dont un à Montréal, en 2009. En 1999, à sa dernière campagne en Formule Atlantique, il avait obtenu la pole et enregistré la victoire lors de la course présentée au circuit Gilles-Villeneuve, dans le cadre du Grand Prix du Canada.

For over a decade now, Tagliani has pursued a career in professional auto racing, an undertaking which saw its beginnings in Formula Atlantic. Ben Rowe wins a PASS South/National thriller at Motor Mile Speedway

The Pro All Stars Series (PASS) South Super Late Models returned to Motor Mile Speedway in Virginia on Saturday, May 28th, for the first time since the inaugural race at the track in 2008. This time, the event also marked the second PASS National championship race of the season. After 150 laps of grueling competition, Ben Rowe edged Jay Fogleman at the line to win his first series race of the year, making six different winners in six races this season in PASS South competition.

 

While 29 cars entered the weekend’s events at Motor Mile, two had trouble on practice day, leaving 27 cars to battle it out for top honors in qualifying. Fogleman stuck his machine on the top of the charts with a 15.350-second lap, earning him the pole position as well as a new track record at Motor Mile. Stephen Nasse was second, followed by Cassius Clark, Jimmy Weller and Andy Loden. Matt McCall, Rowe, Ryan Reed, Preston Peltier and Justin Wakefield rounded out the top 10.

After the top 10 redraw, Fogleman and Clark led the field of 27 to the green flag. Fogleman got the edge, leading early with Clark dropping in second. With most of the front half of the field getting single file, Nasse was the driver on the move, using the outside line to work his way from eighth to third by lap 10.

At lap 20, Clark worked his way into the lead on the outside of Fogleman, bringing Nasse with him. Fogleman dropped into third with Wakefield and Rowe rounding out the top five early.

The first yellow of the race flew on lap 36 as David Quackenbush spun in turn three. He was able to get his car going the right way without assistance. At the yellow, the top five were Clark, Nasse, Fogleman, Wakefield and Rowe.

On the restart, Nasse was able to use the high lane to take the lead with Clark dropping in second. Wakefield moved up to third with Fogleman fourth and Loden moving into the fifth position.

Series points leader Ryan Blaney attempted to move up through the field from his 14th-place starting position, but after some hard racing with Jeff Choquette, contact between the two sent Choquette’s car into the inside wall on the front stretch. Blaney was penalized and put to the back of the field for the incident, but the contact appeared to have damaged his car as well as he spent several laps in the pits.

After a few more yellow flags for incidents on the track, the battle for the top spot between Clark and Nasse heated up. The two battled side by side for a few laps, but contact on the front stretch sent both into the wall in turn one and out of the race on lap 78. That incident handed the lead over to Wakefield with Lavender, Rowe, Peltier and Hindman rounding out the top five.

The front position wasn’t the place to be late in the race. Wakefield, while cruising out front, had a tire go down, forcing him to pit at lap 119. A few laps later, Peltier, who worked his way to second and had the lead once Wakefield dropped off the pace, looped his car in turn four while trying to negotiate lapped traffic.

After a late-race yellow, Rowe and Fogleman battled hard during the last 10 laps for the top spot with Loden lurking behind. Contact between the two front runners kept the fans on the edge of their seats, but the two veteran drivers kept their cars pointed straight with Rowe crossing the finish line first.

“There is no better guy to race like that than Jay Fogleman,” said Rowe. “We hit a few times, but you didn’t see either of us end up in the fence. That is just good racing with 10 laps to go. He was going way down on the apron. I thought he was by me once and I was about ready to pull in behind him, but we motored back up alongside him. It was a blast racing him like that.”

Even though he wanted the victory, Fogleman enjoyed racing with Rowe over the final laps.

“Ben and I have just been racing the last couple years, but it is like we have been racing each other all our lives,” explained Fogleman. “I raced him like he would race me. I mean, I shook him around, but I wasn’t going to turn him around. Ben is a good racer. He took it and held his line.”

Loden made it a three-car battle for the victory, but just couldn’t advance any further than third, which wasn’t bad considering he lost track position early with a tire problem.

“We had a really good car,” said Loden. “We got a flat left front there at the beginning and had to go to the back. We got it fixed and got back to third, so it was a good night.

“I was running all over to see if I could find a way around. I couldn’t get around Jay because he was running where I needed to be. It was a heck of a race.”

Rowe entered the race fourth in the National points, but with the victory and the fact that the next three National events are up in his neck of the woods in the northeast, Rowe was leaving Motor Mile Speedway with more than just a victory.

“We come down here from Maine to race with these guys,” said Rowe with a smile. “It is their time to travel 16 hours and race on my tracks. Hopefully I have the upper hand and we will keep this National points deal going.”

Lavender and Roger Lee Newton rounded out the top five.

The PASS South Super Late Model Series will be back in action at Orange County Speedway (NC) for the sixth-annual “Orange Blossom Special” on Saturday, June 4th. The next PASS National Championship event will take place on Thursday, July 21st, at Thompson International Speedway (CT).

Montréal, May 30, 2011 - Patrick Carpentier will return to the NASCAR circuit next weekend driving Frank Stoddard Jr's #32 Ford at Kansas Speedway. The Canadian driver, who now lives in Las Vegas, has confirmed that he will compete in his first NASCAR Sprint Cup race of the year on June 5 at the 1.5-mile (2.414 km) banked oval, round 13 of the 2011 schedule.

 

« Ce sera la première fois de ma carrière en Coupe Sprint où je vais piloter une voiture déjà qualifiée pour la course, a souligné Carpentier qui en sera à son 40e départ en Coupe Sprint. La pression sera moins énorme pour mes premiers tours de piste, car je vais pouvoir travailler autant sur les réglages de qualification et ceux pour la course. Je suis évidemment très heureux que Frank (Stoddard) ait décidé de me laisser piloter la voiture no 32 au Kansas. Après l'annonce qui a dernièrement confirmé ma présence à Montréal pour la course Nationwide avec l'équipe de Michael Waltrip, ça fait au moins deux bonnes nouvelles sur trois (N.D.L.R. - Carpentier faisait allusion à sa sortie de piste lors de la qualification à Indianapolis le 22 mai dernier). C'est une fin de mois plutôt fantastique pour moi. »


Rappelons que les 35 premiers au classement des propriétaires en NASCAR sont qualifiés d'office pour la course, ce qui permet au pilote d'ajuster la voiture pour la course que pour la qualification durant les essais plutôt que de chercher uniquement les bons réglages en vue de la qualifier. L'équipe de Frank Stoddard occupe actuellement le 33e rang du classement avec 169 points. Quatre pilotes se sont partagé le volant de la Ford no 32 lors de 11 des 12 premières courses. Terry Labonte, deux départs, a inscrit le meilleur résultat de la saison avec une 15e place en lever de rideau à Daytona, et Ken Schrader, le plus permanent de l'équipe avec cinq départs, a réussi une 22e place à Martinsville. Mike Skinner et Mike Bliss complètent le tableau des pilotes avec comme meilleur résultat une 24e et une 25e place respectivement.


Patrick prendra la piste vendredi à 13 h 30 pour la première séance d'essais qui se terminera à 15 h 50, heure de l'est. Sa deuxième sortie se déroulera de 16 h 30 à 18 heures. L'unique séance de qualification sur deux tours lancés débutera samedi à 12 h 10, et les amateurs pourront suivre en direct le déroulement de ces trois séances sur le réseau SPEED. Le départ de la course de 400 milles (267 tours) sera donné dimanche à 13 heures. L'épreuve sera diffusée à FOX et TSN.


Cyclo-défi contre le cancer
Dans un autre ordre d'idée, le pilote Patrick Carpentier devrait vivre une expérience assurément moins stressante et surtout moins hasardeuse que celle qu'il a connue le dimanche 22 mai lors des derniers essais de l'Indianapolis 500 lorsqu'il participera à la troisième édition du Cyclo-défi qui se tiendra du 9 au 10 juillet prochain. Le Cyclo-défi Enridge contre le cancer au bénéfice de l'Hôpital général juif de Montréal est une randonnée cycliste de deux jours entre Montréal et Québec.


Pour cet événement unique, Carpentier s'est engagé, au sein de l'équipe Komatsu - Équipement SMS, à participer à l'événement caritatif dont le but est d'amasser des fonds pour soutenir la recherche et les nouvelles technologies dans les domaines du diagnostic moléculaire, de l'imagerie fonctionnelle et des biomarqueurs. II existe peu de centres du cancer dans le monde où une équipe de chercheurs et de personnel clinique hautement qualifié et motivé travaillent sous un même toit. Dans ce parcours, l'Hôpital général juif occupe une position unique dans la recherche. L'an dernier, plus de 5,7 millions de dollars ont été récoltés pour la lutte contre le cancer à travers la province.

"This will mark the first time in my Sprint Cup career that I will be driving a car that is already qualified for the race," said Carpentier who will be making his 40th Sprint Cup start. "There will be a lot less pressure when we practice on Friday, because we will be able to work both on qualifying and race set ups. I am thrilled that Frank (Stoddard) chose me to drive the number 32 car in Kansas. With the confirmation of my ride in the Nationwide race in Montréal with Michael Waltrip's team next August, it's two good news items out of three. (Editor's note - Carpentier was alluding to the fact that he crashed during qualifying at Indianapolis last May 22). This latest news makes for a fantastic end of the month of May."


As a rule, the top 35 cars in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Owners Standing are pre-qualified for the race. This enables the driver to work on qualifying and race set ups rather than concentrate only on preparing the car for qualifying in order to make the field. Frank Stoddard's team is currently 33rd with 169 points. Four drivers have driven the #32 Ford so far in the first 11 of 12 races. Terry Labonte, with two starts, has collected the team's best results with a 15th place in the season opener at Daytona, and Ken Schrader, the driver with the most starts with five, scored a best 22nd place at Martinsville. As for Mike Skinner and Mike Bliss, their best results were respectively 24th and 25th.


Patrick will be on track Friday, June 3rd at 1:30 p.m., Eastern Time, for the first 80-minute practice session, followed by a 90-minute session schedule to start at 4:30 p.m. Each driver gets a two-lap qualifying run on Saturday with the session starting at noon. Fans can watch these sessions live on SPEED network. The green flag for the 400-mile race will be given at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday. The 267-lap event can be seen live on FOX and TSN.


Ride to Conquer Cancer
For a change of pace, Carpentier should experience a less traumatic ordeal than the one he went through at Indianapolis Motor Speedway last May 22, when he takes part in the third running of the Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer, a two-day cycling event scheduled for July 9-10, 2011. The money raised in the Ride to Conquer Cancer will benefit the Montreal Jewish General Hospital cancer research programs. The two-day event will depart from Montreal and will travel to Quebec City with an overnight stay in Trois-Rivières.


For this unique cycling event, Carpentier will join the Komatsu - SMS Equipment team to raise money for the Segal Cancer Centre at the Jewish General Hospital. The money will support research and new technologies in the areas of molecular diagnostics, functional imaging, and advance targeted radiation therapy. There are few cancer centres in the world where a strong team of researchers and highly skilled and motivated clinicians work under the same roof. Last year, more than 5.7 million dollars were raised by the event to fight cancer across the province.

Et suite aux remises précédentes, les voitures SPORTSMAN en seront à leur première course de la saison.

 

Les grandes vedettes de cette série seront tous sur place pour cette finale de 100 tours. Les champions défendant Sylvain Labbé de St-Joseph et Daniel Sylvain de St-Georges auront du pain sur la planche afin de répéter leur exploit de 2010. Cette année, il y a une seule division et tous leurs proches poursuivants de l’an passé sont de retour.

Les Karl Drouin #39 de Vallée Jonction, Steve Lesage #95 de Pont-Rouge, Jimmy Nadeau #17 de Beauceville, Steve Malouin McKibbin #45 de Lévis, Dany Poulin #2 de Vallée-Jonction, Éric Giguère #99,7 de St-Georges, Simon Roussin #66 de Québec, Rock Poulin #8 qui fera un retour en piste après une année d’absence, Réjean Blanchet #7 avec une construction DGR 2011, Dave Trevors #50 avec une nouvelle acquisition, sont tous des pilotes susceptibles aux grands honneurs.

Au moins une voiture PASS sera  en exposition sur le site et vous la verrez en action sur la piste au cours de la soirée afin de vous donner un avant goût de leur venue le samedi 25 juin.

 

Les classes locales :

En SPORT COMPACTE BESTBUY Pièces d’Auto, la lutte s’annonce des plus serrée et déjà  les Dom Jacques, Pierre Nolet, Mario Roy et son fils Jimmy occupent la tête du classement, tous ex égaux avec 40 points. Mais les Poulin, Blanchette, Carrier et autres n’ont pas dit leur dernier mot.

En LIMITÉ COOL FM 101.3, les Bernier, Vir, Marcoux et Cie vont tout faire pour freiner le champion défendant Stéphane Lecours de Lac Etchemin.

 

En KAMIKAZE FM 101.3, les Jessy Bolduc et autres réussiront-ils à rejoindre Martin Bisson de Saints Anges?

ROUGH START TO SEASON FOR DILLEY AT MOSPORT

For Immediate Release

 

BOWMANVILLE, ON, Saturday May 28, 2011: Mark Dilley driver of the No. 9 Rheem/PartSource Dodge was sixth quickest in practice, but fell a few spots in qualifying, taking the eight starting place. Dilley didn’t finish the race as a piece of debris did irreparable damage to his car and took him out of contention early on.

 

Dilley started practice strong, but made some adjustments to the car including changing the springs and shocks to get the car to turn better. After makings these changes the car was manoeuvring the way Dilley liked and he finished practice with the sixth quickest time.

 

In qualifying Dilley was one of the first cars to take to the track and turned Canada’s fasted half mile oval in a time of 21.975 resulting in an eighth place starting position. 

 

Dilley took the green flag for the Dickies 200 on the outside of row four and battled on the outside to keep eighth place but eventually settled into ninth place on lap three. Dilley was staying out of trouble and testing out the new car “It was set up for the long runs,” commented Dilley, “and the car was running good.”

 

Dilley had made his way up to seventh place by lap 42 when the No. 9 Dodge picked up a piece of debris off the race track and it went through the rad and damaged the motor.  Dilley’s night ended early and he was disappointed, but he was very positive about the way the car was handling.

 

“We just don’t seem to have any luck” Dilley said, “We had a great car and the guys worked so hard to get it to handle like it is, but we just need a little luck on our side.”

 

The No. 9 team isn’t going to let this stop them, “The new car is awesome and we are going to keep digging” commented a crew member.  “We will be ready for Delaware.” 

The Dickies 200 will air on TSN on Saturday, June 4, at 1 p.m. ET.

The next stop for Dilley and the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series will be the inaugural visit to Circuit ICAR in Quebec. Dilley has already tested at this track earlier this season and is looking for a solid finish to make-up a few spots in the point standings.

La Série Sportsman Lucas Oil ouvrira sa 5e saison à Vallée Jonction.

Pour diffusion immédiate

 

C’est samedi le 4 juin 2011, que la Série Sportsman Lucas Oil  ouvrira sa 5e saison à l’Autodrome Chaudière dans le cadre du Drouin et Frères 100.

 

La Série a déjà eu la confirmation que 28 pilotes provenant de la Beauce, de Portneuf, du Lac St-Jean, de la Rive-Sud de Québec ainsi que de la Capitale-Nationale  devraient participer à cette soirée de course des plus enlevantes. Seulement 26 d’entres eux pourront accéder à la finale de 100 tours.

 

Sylvain Labbé #40  de St-Joseph (Champion Élite) et Daniel Sylvain #12  de St-Georges (Champion Intermédiaire) auront fort à faire pour garder leur titre étant donné que les 9 premiers au classement général Élite sont de retour. Il ne faudra surtout pas oublier les jeunes loups de la division Inter qui comptent bien faire leur preuve maintenant qu’ils sont tous regroupés dans la même division.

 

Plusieurs pilotes seront à surveiller, Karl Drouin #39 de Vallée Jonction, Steve Lesage #95 de Pont-Rouge, Jimmy Nadeau #17 de Beauceville, Steve Malouin McKibbin #45 de Lévis, Dany Poulin #2 de Vallée-Jonction et Éric Giguère #99,7 de St-Georges.

 

Il faudra aussi surveiller la tenue de Rock Poulin #8 qui fera un retour en piste après une année d’absence. Réjean Blanchet #7 avec une construction DGR 2011, Dave Trevors #50 avec une nouvelle acquisition et Simon Roussin qui se présentera avec une nouvelle philosophie, soit de s’amuser et bâtir de course en course.

 

En terminant, la Série Sportsman Lucas Oil aura une présentation officielle  dans le cadre de la journée des enfants pour cette course d’ouverture.

 

Venez voir cette course en grand nombre ce samedi à compter de 17h00.

MICKS FINISHES JUST OUTSIDE TOP TEN AT MOSPORT

BOWMANVILLE , ON, Sunday May 29, 2011: Kerry Micks driver of the Dickies/Beyond Digital Imaging Ford Fusion started the Dickies 200 in seventh place. The No. 02 had mechanical problems right from the drop of the green flag, but was still in contention for a podium finish before the last restart when Micks was taken out. When all was said and done Micks wound-up 13th.  

 

The No. 02 team was quick early on in practice and held onto the top spot on the chart for the first half, however Micks fell to the fifth position when practise wrapped up. In qualifying the No. 02 Dickies/Beyond Digital Imaging Ford Fusion turned a time of 21.962 which earned Micks the seventh qualifying position. 

 

Micks Started the Dickies 200 on the inside of row four and when the green flag dropped he settled into the seventh spot. By lap 18 Micks had moved up to the fourth position and was challenging for third. However, the No.02 Ford Fusion was beginning to have brake problems. “The brakes were not right from the very beginning of the race” commented Micks, “But we didn’t have any early cautions so I just kept driving the car the way it was”.

 

The Dickies/Beyond Digital Imaging Ford Fusion was running in fourth on lap 120 when the first caution came out.  Micks came in and took right side tires, it was a quick stop and he was the third car off pit road. The No. 02 team opted to come back in under the same caution and top up on fuel, as did most other teams. Both pit stops for the No. 02 team were flawless and after taking fuel Micks was the first car to exit pit road taking over the lead.

 

Micks had a great re-start and got out to the front of the pack and held onto the lead for six laps.  However, Micks was having further mechanical problems as the power steering had also been fading throughout the race.  With the brakes and power steering failing Micks couldn’t maintain the lead and slipped back to fourth. 

 

Micks was still handling the car well and was even gaining on the third place car.  However, a caution came out on lap 171 and Micks, who was struggling with the car on restarts, slipped back to sixth.

 

As the race was nearing completion, there was another caution on lap 186 and under that caution Micks came on the radio and informed his crew that he had no power steering left.  On the restart the No. 02 was spun in turn four and the race was under caution for the fifth time.  Micks came down pit road to survey the damage and change the right front tire; however, the spindle was broken and with only 6 laps remaining in the Dickies 200 Mick’s night would end.

 

The Dickies/Beyond Digital Imaging team finished the night with a 13th place finish.  Micks was disappointed with the results, but after the race was in high spirits as he is looking forward to the next oval track. “The car is so fast” Micks said with a smile at the end of the race “I think it’s the fastest car I’ve ever had and good things will happen. I was still able to drive the car and pick up track position with little brakes and power steering” Micks added.

 

The Dickies 200 will air on TSN on Saturday, June 4, at 1 p.m. ET.

Steckly Jumpstarts Season With a Win at Mosport

For Immediate Release

BOWMANVILLE, ON, Saturday May 28, 2011: Scott Steckly driver of the 22 Racing/Canadian Tire Dodge started the day seventh quickest in practice and qualified second for the first event of the 2011 season. The day just kept getting better for Steckly as he took home the win at Mosport Speedway.

 

During practice the No. 22 team was fast early on, but had some brake problems that set them back. After fixing the brakes, changing the shocks and making a sway bar adjustment the car was back on track and Scott Steckly concluded practice with the seventh quickest time.

 

Steckly was one of the first cars to take to the track in qualifying and managed to maneuver Canada’s fastest half mile oval with a time of 21.767. The time held up for most of the qualifying session and afforded Steckly a second place starting position.

 

Steckly was thrilled to start on the outside of row one and said, “After we fixed the brake issue in practice I knew we would be good to go. The car was really fast and we actually qualified with a faster time then we turned in practice.”

 

Steckly started the Dickies 200 at Mosport Speedway in second place and was challenging the No. 87 of JR Fitzpatrick for the lead by lap 50.  On lap 58 Steckly took over the lead and dominated the field lapping several cars. Steckly lead the Dickies 200 until the first caution came out at lap 120. 

 

Under caution Steckly came to pit road and the team elected to change the right side tires, but during the stop an air gun jammed and the No. 22 team was one of the last cars to leave to leave pit road. Prior to the stop when Steckly was leading the race, the car was so fast that he managed to lap most of the field and as a result, the No. 22 team was able to restart the race in fifth position as the last car on the lead lap.

 

 

It did not take Steckly long to work his way back to the front.  He was on a mission with fresh tires and on lap 155 Steckly took over the lead again. The 22 Racing/Canadian Tire Dodge was fast and was pulling away from the pack, but the field quickly tightened up as there were three cautions in the last 30 laps. Steckly had to work hard to maintain the top spot and hold off the No.7 car on all three of the restarts. Steckly; however, made no mistake and did not give the No. 7 an opportunity to make a pass. On the green, white checkered restart, Steckly had a fair lead with one lap to go and was the first car to cross the stripe taking home a well-deserved win, the ninth of his career.

 

“What a way to start off the season,” Steckly said with a smile at the conclusion of the race “It was the first race with a new car and new crew chief and I couldn’t be happier for Canadian Tire and my guys. The guys worked so hard in the off season to get this car ready and even today at the track the guys did everything they needed to, to get us here.”

The Dickies 200 will air on TSN on Saturday, June 4, at 1 p.m. ET.

The next stop for Steckly and the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series will be the inaugural visit to Circuit ICAR in Quebec. Steckly has already tested at this track earlier this season and is looking for another podium finish.

THUNDER ROAD: Donahue, O'Donnell Take Mekkelsen RV Memorial Day Classic Doubleheader Wins

Barre, VT – Graniteville’s John Donahue and Bradford’s Derrick O’Donnell claimed wins in Mekkelsen RV Memorial Classic doubleheader at Thunder Road International Speedbowl in Barre, VT on Sunday, May 29. Donahue, a former Milk Bowl champion and four time winner at Thunder Road in 2010, claimed the Late Model 100 lap feature win.

 

Donahue fought his way past Middlesex’s Dave Pembroke in a battle of two Fords on lap 33. The two battled hard for the first 32 laps with Donahue trying everything he could to get by leader Pembroke before finally gaining the edge. Donahue would lead the rest of the way for the most part uncontested.

 

Pembroke held off Vermont Lt. Governor Phil Scott to take second. Scott, 2010 King of the Road Nick Sweet and Brent Dragon rounded out the top five. Joey Polewarczyk, Jr., rookie Jimmy Hebert, Matt White, Reno Gervais and Cris Michaud completed the top ten.

 

Donahue lapped all but the top 11 cars of the 27 car field. The 100 lap event was completed in just 29 minutes and saw just two cautions.

 

Derrick O’Donnell earned his second win of the season in the first two events at Thunder Road. O’Donnell followed up his opening day win on May 1 with a win in the Bond/WIX Tiger Tour season opening Mekkelsen RV Memorial Day 100. The Bradford native took the lead from leader Bobby Therrien to lead the final 50 laps without a challenge.

 

Therrien would hold on for what appeared to be a second place finish before being penalized for rough riding. He was dropped to the final car on the lead lap in seventh. Eric Badore inherited second, while 2010 Bond Auto Tiger Sportsmen Champion Tony Rossi took third. Joe Steffen and Joey Roberts completed the top five.

 

Josh Demers, Therrien, Mark Barnier, David Finck and Mike Ziter completed the top ten. O’Donnell managed to lap all but the top seven cars as the 100 lap event saw just two cautions. The race took just over 34 minutes to complete. A total of 37 cars attempted to qualify for the first of five Bond/WIX Tiger Tour events to be held in 2011. The starting grid had 28 cars.

 

The Allen Lumber Street Stocks saw Jefferson, NH’s Nick Pilotte, a former White Mountain Motorsports Park Champion, earn his first career win at Thunder Road. Sid Sweet, Jr., Greg Adams, Bunker Hodgdon and Martin Ingram all claimed top fives.

 

Williamstown’s Brock Parrott earned the win in the Junkyard Warriors. He was followed to the line by Jason Woodard and Danny Brassard.

 

Thunder Road has the next two weeks off before its first Sunday twilight event on Sunday, June 12. All four divisions will be in action for a regular event presented by Ferguson Waterworks. The event will also feature the New England Antique Racers.

Abandon pour Alex Tagliani au Indy 500

Dan Wheldon gagne les 500 milles d'Indianapolis

Mirabel, Québec, le 29 mai 2011 - S'élançant de la position de tête pour le centenaire de l'Indy 500, le Québécois Alex Tagliani s'est maintenu parmi les meneurs durant la première moitié de l'épreuve de 200 tours avant de connaître des ennuis de surchauffe de moteur. Le pilote de l'équipe Sam Schmidt Motorsports a connu un excellent début de course, menant 20 des 34 premiers tours qu'il a partagé avec Scott Dixon de l'équipe Chip Ganassi Racing. Lors d'un arrêt aux stands à la mi-course, l'équipe a ouvert une trappe pour permettre le passage de l'air afin de refroidir le moteur, mais cette opération a augmenté l'appui sur la monoplace, ralentissant du fait la voiture. Cette opération l'a rapidement fait glisser dans le classement. Puis au 145e tour, Tagliani est monté trop haut sur la piste dans le coin 4 pour finalement se retrouver dans le mur. Pour le porte-parole officiel du Grand Prix ICAR de Mirabel, dont la quatrième édition aura lieu le week-end du 3 au 5 juin 2011, c'était la fin d'un rêve. Tagliani a été classé au 28e rang.

 

« L'équipe peut se tenir la tête haute, car nous avons accompli de l'excellent travail fait à Indianapolis au cours du mois de mai, a expliqué Tagliani. L'arrière nous a lâché ce qui a rendu la voiture survireuse. Nous avons effectué des changements, mais cela n'a pas suffi. Lors de l'incident, je suis monté un peu trop haut sur la piste où se trouvent les billettes de caoutchouc, et j'ai tout simplement glissé vers le mur. D'ici notre prochaine course au Texas le 11 juin, j'aurai un horaire plutôt chargé du côté du Grand Prix de Mirabel. »


Dans une fin de course enlevante et pleine de rebondissements, le Britannique Dan Wheldon a remporté la 100e édition de l'Indy 500 lorsque la recrue J.R. Hildebrand a heurté le mur du quatrième virage au dernier tour, offrant ainsi une victoire inespérée à Wheldon, sa seconde aux 500 milles, la première remontant à 2005. Malgré son accident crève-coeur, la voiture de l'Américain Hildebrand, qui s'était élancé du 12e rang, a glissé vers la ligne d'arrivée pour terminer second. Pour la quatrième année consécutive, dont les deux précédentes avec Wheldon au volant, l'équipe Panther Racing termine second à Indianapolis. L'Américain Graham Rahal, 29e au départ, a terminé troisième, son meilleur résultat à Indianapolis, devant le Brésilien Tony Kanaan, 22e sur la grille. L'Espagnol Oriol Servia de l'équipe Newman-Haas a pris le cinquième rang. Scott Dixon de l'équipe Chip Ganassi a terminé sixième et Will Power a obtenu le meilleur résultat de Penske Racing avec une 14e place, à un tour du vainqueur.


Parmi les autres canadiens inscrits, Paul Tracy a frappé le mur au 22e tour, mais son équipe a réussi à réparer pour permettre au vétéran de poursuivre. Il a terminé 25e à 25 tours du meneur. Quant à la recrue James Hinchcliffe, 13e sur la grille de départ, il a également heurté le mur à la mi-course pour se classer dernière Tagliani en 29e position.


Tagliani rencontrera la presse québécoise le 1er juin
À son retour au Québec, Tagliani rencontrera les médias montréalais à Mirabel lors du point de presse de la quatrième édition du Grand Prix ICAR. Puis, Tagliani devra ensuite se concentrer sur son pilotage puisqu'il sera au volant d'un bolide de la série NASCAR de Canadian Tire qui en sera à la seconde étape de son calendrier 2011, la première de la série sur un circuit routier. Il faut se rappeler que Tagliani s'est souvent démarqué dans ce championnat, même s'il n'a que 13 départs dans cette série, ayant décroché la victoire à Edmonton en 2008 dans le cadre du Edmonton Indy et la pole à Trois-Rivières et à Montréal sur le circuit Gilles-Villeneuve en 2009.



Le Grand Prix ICAR de Mirabel tiendra sa journée portes ouvertes le vendredi 3 juin afin d'offrir aux amateurs la possibilité de découvrir le circuit et ses installations, en plus de visiter les paddocks pour y rencontrer leurs pilotes favoris et leurs équipiers.
