MICKS FOURTH IN POINTS AFTER FIFTH AT RIVERSIDE

ANTIGONISH, NS, Sunday September 18, 2011: Kerry Micks driver of the No. 02 Dickies/Beyond Digital Imaging Ford Fusion was eighth quickest in practice and in qualifying posted a time that would earn him the 11th starting position.  Micks battled for 300 laps and came away with a fifth place finish and even gained momentum in the points chase.

In qualifying, Micks manoeuvred the .333 mile high banked oval in a time of 14.855 seconds with an average speed of almost 81 miles per hour giving him the 11th place starting spot on the grid for the Komatsu 300.

 

With the drop of the green flag Micks quickly moved into 10th and maintained that position for the first 60 laps.  On lap 80, the field ahead of the #02 driver checked up exiting turn four on the front stretch and Micks had nowhere to go but into the back of the No. 60 of Ron Beauchamp Jr.  “We cracked the bumper and buckled the hood” commented the Micks after the race. “We were hoping for a quick caution so we could come in and get rid of the hood.”

Luck was with him as on lap 105 the caution flew and he brought the No. 02 Ford Fusion down pit road. The team fuelled the car and removed the damaged hood.   Micks came back to pit road a second time to put on left side tires, rejoining the field to take the green in fifth.

The Dickies/BDI team strategy was to take tires with about 100 laps remaining in order to make a charge to the front so they did not bring the 02 Ford back to pit road for right side tires.

  On the restart contact with another driver caused Micks to spin in turn four.  With great car control by Micks, he was able to get slowed down and his contact with the wall only caused minimal damage, mostly cosmetic.  As an involved car he had to restart at the back of the field. 

 

By lap 168 Micks had moved into fifth place and for the duration of the 300 lap race he waged a battle back and forth with the No. 60 for position and at the stripe Micks would be credited with fifth. 

 

“We had some issues early on and kept getting caught up in other peoples problems,” said Micks. “I just tried to stay on the lead lap and to get the best finish we could. Our strategy didn’t work today.  We planned to pit with around 100 to go for right side tires but the caution didn’t come out again.  All in all we had a good day in the points and we want to end our season with a win at Kawartha.”

The Komatsu 300 will air on TSN on September 24th at 2:30 p.m.  EST.

With a fifth place finish, Micks has moved up to fourth in the NASCAR point standings and is now only ten points out of third.  The final stop for Micks and the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series will Saturday September 24 at Kawartha Speedway and don’t forget to go to Dickies.ca before the race and pick the winners in the Dickies Race to Win Challenge for a chance to win some great prizes.

Micks Maneuvres Circuit Gilles Villeneuve to Finish Second

MONTREAL, QUEBEC, Monday August 22, 2011: Kerry Micks driver of the No. 02 Dickies/Beyond Digital Imaging Ford Fusion notched another podium finish at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve with a second place finish.

Just as the teams were taking to the track Thursday for their one hour practice session, the skies opened up and it started to rain.  NASCAR brought the field to pit road so the teams could get the cars ready for the wet track conditions. Micks however, knows his way around Circuit Gilles Villeneuve taking the win in 2007, and didn’t let a little rain stop him from laying down some quick laps and posting the second quickest time in practice. 

 

On Friday afternoon for qualifying, the sun was shining and Micks didn’t hold back as he manoeuvred the 2.709 mile road course in a time of 105.985 with an average speed of over 92 miles per hour, a time that would see him line up in third place on the starting grid.

Micks started the NAPA AUTOPRO 100 on inside of row two and after taking the green flag followed the first place car of Andrew Ranger No. 27 into turn one taking the second position from the No. 12 of Alex Tagliani.  Micks was able to stay close to the No. 27 and out braked him heading into turn three but just couldn’t make the move on Ranger.  On lap 8, the two leaders were battling it out with each of them trying to out-brake the other, when they both shot through the grass missing the S-turn.  The two drivers were able to hold onto their cars and carried on running one-two.

The third caution came out on lap 15 and Micks was grateful as the gauges in the No. 02 Ford Fusion indicated Micks had no oil pressure. The #02 Ford driver was running in second and decided not to come to pit road to have the crew check the car and took the green flag again on lap 16.

On the restart Micks was able to maintain the second place position while the No. 11 of Jason Bowles was all over the back bumper of the Dickies/Beyond Digital Imaging Ford Fusion, allowing the leader, Andrew Ranger, to put some distance between himself and Micks.  With three laps to go Bowles made a move on Micks to take over the second position, but with 2 laps to go Micks would take the second position back from the No. 11 and would hold him off to cross the finish line in second place.

After the race Micks was all smiles as he said, “We were having oil pressure problems with the car, and I was doing everything I could, playing with the breakers and flipping switches. The cautions really helped us out today, but the car itself was amazing and if it wasn’t for the problem with our oil pressure Ranger would have had some competition. When we were running with him on the restarts we could out brake him.”

The NAPA AUTOPRO 100 can be seen in its entirety on TSN on Sunday August 21 at midnight and Monday August 22 at 1:30 p.m.  TSN2 will also air the event on Sunday August 21 at 6:30 p.m.

Micks maintained fifth in the NASCAR point standings and the next stop for Micks and the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series will be on September 10 at Barrie Speedway for the Wild Wing 300 presented by Independent Electric.  Do not forget to go to Dickies.ca before the race and pick the winners in the Dickies Race to Win Challenge for a chance to win some great prizes.

MICKS FINISHES JUST OUTSIDE TOP TEN AT MOSPORT

BOWMANVILLE , ON, Sunday May 29, 2011: Kerry Micks driver of the Dickies/Beyond Digital Imaging Ford Fusion started the Dickies 200 in seventh place. The No. 02 had mechanical problems right from the drop of the green flag, but was still in contention for a podium finish before the last restart when Micks was taken out. When all was said and done Micks wound-up 13th.  

 

The No. 02 team was quick early on in practice and held onto the top spot on the chart for the first half, however Micks fell to the fifth position when practise wrapped up. In qualifying the No. 02 Dickies/Beyond Digital Imaging Ford Fusion turned a time of 21.962 which earned Micks the seventh qualifying position. 

 

Micks Started the Dickies 200 on the inside of row four and when the green flag dropped he settled into the seventh spot. By lap 18 Micks had moved up to the fourth position and was challenging for third. However, the No.02 Ford Fusion was beginning to have brake problems. “The brakes were not right from the very beginning of the race” commented Micks, “But we didn’t have any early cautions so I just kept driving the car the way it was”.

 

The Dickies/Beyond Digital Imaging Ford Fusion was running in fourth on lap 120 when the first caution came out.  Micks came in and took right side tires, it was a quick stop and he was the third car off pit road. The No. 02 team opted to come back in under the same caution and top up on fuel, as did most other teams. Both pit stops for the No. 02 team were flawless and after taking fuel Micks was the first car to exit pit road taking over the lead.

 

Micks had a great re-start and got out to the front of the pack and held onto the lead for six laps.  However, Micks was having further mechanical problems as the power steering had also been fading throughout the race.  With the brakes and power steering failing Micks couldn’t maintain the lead and slipped back to fourth. 

 

Micks was still handling the car well and was even gaining on the third place car.  However, a caution came out on lap 171 and Micks, who was struggling with the car on restarts, slipped back to sixth.

 

As the race was nearing completion, there was another caution on lap 186 and under that caution Micks came on the radio and informed his crew that he had no power steering left.  On the restart the No. 02 was spun in turn four and the race was under caution for the fifth time.  Micks came down pit road to survey the damage and change the right front tire; however, the spindle was broken and with only 6 laps remaining in the Dickies 200 Mick’s night would end.

 

The Dickies/Beyond Digital Imaging team finished the night with a 13th place finish.  Micks was disappointed with the results, but after the race was in high spirits as he is looking forward to the next oval track. “The car is so fast” Micks said with a smile at the end of the race “I think it’s the fastest car I’ve ever had and good things will happen. I was still able to drive the car and pick up track position with little brakes and power steering” Micks added.

 

The Dickies 200 will air on TSN on Saturday, June 4, at 1 p.m. ET.

PR Micks Motorsport - Micks Leaves Mosport with Top Five Finish

MICKS LEAVES MOSPORT WITH TOP FIVE FINISH

 

Bowmanville, ON, Monday June 14, 2010:  Kerry Micks had a solid day at Mosport International Raceway qualifying the No. 02 Beyond Digital Imaging/Dickies Ford in the third position and bringing the car across the finishing line in fifth place in the Vortex Brake Pads 200.

 

After rain washed out the second group qualifying on Saturday afternoon, Micks went out on Sunday morning and qualified the No. 02 Ford Fusion in third place.

 

Sundays 200 km race would see Micks pit the BDI/Dickies Ford early, taking on just fuel on lap 15.  Soon after on lap 17 a full course caution occurred and it opened the door for another pit stop, this time the No.02 team took 4 tires and restarted in ninth.

 

The rest of the 51 lap race was green flag and Micks had a great car, with fresh tires he was able to work his way up through the pack. Micks had the No.02 Ford running as high as third and pulled off a fifth place finish.

 

After the race Micks commented, “Overall I’m happy with the Beyond Digital/Dickies car, a top five finish will definitely help in the points.  I want to thank all our sponsors and my crew for a great job today.”

 

Micks is currently fourth in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series points heading to event #3 at Autodrome St. Eustache on Saturday July 3rd.  

 

The Vortex Brake Pads 200 will be broadcast on TSN on Sunday June 20th at noon.

MICKS HAS UP AND DOWN DAY AT DELAWARE

 

 

 

 

London, ON, Sunday June 6, 2010:  After an up and down day at the first event on the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series 2010 tour Kerry Micks brought the No. 02 Beyond Digital Imaging/Dickies Ford Fusion across the finish line in 9th.

 

Micks started the day with a great practice run where he posted the forth quickest time and qualified even better, putting the 02 BDI/Dickies Ford Fusion in third place to start the race. 

 

Micks stated that he was thrilled with qualifying, “This is a brand new car so we were able to see what it’s capable of.” 

 

The first 10 laps of the Keystone Light 200 were not looking good for Micks as he ended up at the back of the pack, but he fought hard and was running as high as forth when he got a flat tire and went down a lap late in the race. Luck, however, was on Kerry’s side when there was a caution with two laps to go and he was the benefactor of the free pass award therefore got his lap back. Micks restarted the race at the back of the pack and was able to avoid the wrecks on the last lap to finish in sixth place.

 

After the race Kerry commented that “The car was great for most of the race, but there were a lot of ups and downs. We managed to lead a lap so all in all it was a great learning experience and I’m looking forward to next week”
