Bleau wins first Mini Stock "Sweepstakes" race

WEST HAVEN, Vt. – Devil's Bowl Speedway living legends Kenny Tremont Jr. and Tim LaDuc once again added to their impressive résumés on Sunday, August 6. Each scored a NASCAR Whelen All-American Series feature race win at The Dirt Track at Devil's Bowl during the annual "Double Feature Night" presented by Liberty Street Discount Beverage & Deli. Six other drivers – Bill Duprey, Chris Murray, P.J. Bleau, Jason Porter, Aaron Mulready, and Austin Chaves – also visited victory lane during the event.

Tremont, of West Sand Lake, N.Y., scored his 77^th career Devil's Bowl win in the opening 25-lap feature for the Central Vermont Motorcycles Sportsman Modified division. He started in 14^th position and methodically worked his way toward the front as trouble fell on three different early leaders – Jimmy Ryan and Chad Miller were taken out after contact from Justin Severance, and Billy Lussier later broke a rear axle.

Tremont took the top spot from Vince Quenneville Jr. with seven laps remaining and cruised to the win – his third in a row and fourth of the season. Quenneville scored his fourth runner-up finish of the year on The Dirt Track, followed by Randy Howe, Justin Comes, and Codie Aubin. Mike Fisher finished an impressive sixth in his first-ever start, followed by Severance, James Fadden, LaDuc, and Trevor Rocke.

It was all Orwell, Vt., native LaDuc in the second feature, as he got out front early and sailed to his 49^th career Devil's Bowl win. Howe closed in late but never mounted a serious challenge and finished second. Lussier rebounded from his earlier problems to complete a late pass on Tremont and score his career-best dirt finish in third place. Tremont and Comes were next, ahead of Rocke, Brian Whittemore, Tomas Kimball, Fadden, and Fisher.

Unofficially, LaDuc's lead in the championship standings shrunk to just five points over Tremont, 518-513, with four weeks left in the point-counting season. Quenneville sits third, 28 points back, at 490.

The Rosen & Berger Super Stock division had an action-filled night in a pair of 15-lap feature races. Bill Duprey of Hydeville, Vt., ended a month of bad luck by winning the opening race – his 47^th career win. Mike Bradley finished second in only his second start of the year, after a late, close-quarters battle with Garrett Given. Given, driving a car he usually pilots on Devil's Bowl's 1/2-mile Asphalt Track, finished third ahead of Cassidy Wilson and Scott FitzGerald.

Chris Murray of Fair Haven, Vt. posted his fourth win of the year in the nightcap, dominating the caution-free race with a margin of victory of more than half of a lap. The racing was intense behind him, though, and Curtis Condon came out on top of a five-car battle for the runner-up position – his best showing of the year. Matt Mosher took third place, followed by Duprey and Randy Alger.

Murray closed the gap to point leader Josh Bussino – who finished sixth in both races – to just six markers, unofficially, 448-442. Defending champion Duprey is a tight third at 439, only nine points behind Bussino's lead.

In a photo finish, invader P.J. Bleau of Cohoes, N.Y., locked himself into the September 17 "open competition" season finale with a win in the opening 15-lap Portland Glass Mini Stock feature. Bleau beat Chris Conroy to the finish line by inches to take the win in the first qualifying race of the recently-announced "Sweepstakes" series and will receive an automatic starting spot in the finale as an "at large" entry.

Conroy's runner-up finish and Chris Charbonneau's third-place effort also lock them into the finale with two "home track" bids available at the first feature race. Jason Porter finished fourth with rookie Johnny Bruno fifth. Bleau's win his first at Devil's Bowl and came in his first start of the season at the track; he has also won at Albany-Saratoga, Lebanon Valley, and Fonda speedways in 2017, as well as Glen Ridge Motorsports Park.

In the second 15-lap race, Freeport, Maine, resident Porter came from deep in the field running three- and four-wide to take his third victory of the season. Charbonneau outlasted a snarling pack behind him for second place, while early leader Andrew FitzGerald took third in his first dirt race of the season. Bruno and Robert Garney completed the top five. Charbonneau opened up a big lead of 60 points, unofficially, over Garney, 551-491.

The Catamount Mini Sprint club also held a pair of 15-lap features, and the first race was a family affair for Mulready team out of Buskirk, N.Y. Brothers Aaron and Erick finished 1-2, giving Aaron his second-straight win and Erick his best finish of the year. Nadine Coates finished third with Robert Griffin and Colby Beinhaur in tow.

Fifteen year-old Mini Sprint rookie Austin Chaves of Chester, Vt., was strong in the second race to take his second win of the season and protect his lead in the point standings. Beinhaur and Aaron Mulready completed the podium finishers, while 12 year-old Cody O'Brien was a career-best fourth and Coates was fifth. Sean Beinhaur walked away from a hard flip on the frontstretch in the second race.

Devil's Bowl Speedway is back in action on Wednesday, August 9, at 7:30 p.m. with the Wednesday Night Drag Racing Series. The 1/2-mile oval Asphalt Track races on Saturday, August 12, at 7:00 p.m. with the annual Heritage Family Credit Union "Member Night" program, and the 3/10-mile Dirt Track welcomes the Sprint Cars of New England on Sunday, August 13, and 6:00 p.m.

Barre, Vt. – South Hadley, MA's Wesley Johnson emerged victorious in the 33^rd M&M Beverage Enduro 200 at Barre's Thunder Road on Sunday, August 6. The 30-year-old topped a field of 105 entries to pocket $3,000 for his victory in front of a capacity crowd at the Barre high banks.

Johnson found his way into the top-three around the halfway point of the event, and at one point found himself in a three-way battle for the lead with Granitville's Frank Putney and Monson, Mass.'s Bill Davis. While Putney eventually was forced to pit with problems and Davis encountered a pair of on-track skirmishes, Johnson held steady and was the only driver to complete all 200 laps.

Three-time Enduro winner Davis settled for second while Putney recovered to take third. Sean Ford, Chris LaForest, Mike Klupa, Cody Kilburn, Nathan Lafont, Kyle Morris, and Trevor Day completed the top-10. The full results will be posted on the Thunder Road website in the near future.

Williamstown's Tommy Smith captured his 30^th career Allen Lumber Street Stock victory in the 50-lap Brian Perry & Sons Construction Street Stock Special. Smith got around Middlesex's Logan Powers just before the halfway mark and then held of Lyndonville's Dean Switser Jr. and a trio of late restarts for his first win of the season.

Switser took second with point leader Cooper Bouchard of Hinesburg in third. Matthew Smith, Powers, Jamie Davis, Michael Gay, Bunker Hodgdon, Kelsea Woodard, and Kevin Streeter rounded out the top-10.

Thunder Road is right back on track this Thursday, August 10 with Cody Chevrolet Cadillac Night. The Lenny's Shoe & Apparel Flying Tigers will determine the Myers Container Service Triple Crown champion in the final leg of the three-race series with the Thunder Road Late Models, Allen Lumber Street Stocks, and Burnett Scrap Metals Road Warriors also in action. Post time is7:00pm. Admission is $12 for adults, $3 for kids ages 6-12, and $25 for a family of four (2 adults, 2 kids).

UN TOP 10 AMER POUR RAPHAËL LESSARD EN ARCA AU WINCHESTER SPEEDWAY

Winchester, Indiana, 6 août 2017 – Ce fût une campagne difficile pour Raphaël Lessard, 16 ans, en ARCA cette saison. En effet, le jeune de Saint-Joseph-de-Beauce, qui se tenait dans le Top 3 au début de l'épreuve du Winchester ARCA 200 dimanche, avait des sentiments mitigés sur son résultat de fin de course. Au 49^etour, Raphaël a subi une crevaison au pneu avant droit, provoquant une sortie de piste qui endommagea sa voiture. Néanmoins, il a été capable de revenir en piste et de terminer en 10^e position, lui qui avait glissé jusqu'en 14^e position avec 2 tours de retard à un certain moment.

C'est sur l'ovale du Winchester Speedway, avec une inclinaison de 31 degrés dans ses virages, et au volant de la voiture #25 Musselman's BIG CUP Apple Sauce-Toyota-Camry préparée par l'équipe de course Venturini Motorsports que Raphaël s'est illustré. S'étant battu la veille avec les meneurs pour la pole position, tout était en place pour un premier Top 3 en ARCA pour Lessard, mais cette malchance est venue anéantir ses espoirs d'accéder au podium.

Qualifiant en 7^e position la veille en prévision de la course de 200 tours, Raphaël s'est hissé dans le top 3 dès le début de la course. « Ça allait très bien au début de la course, » affirme le pilote de développement Toyota (TRD), « je suis parti en 7^e position et je suis remonté jusqu'à la 3^e place. La voiture allait tellement bien que je sentais que je pouvais gagner la course. Par contre la voiture s'est mise à pousser dans les virages. L'équipe m'a alors demandé de me tenir proche du mur pour ne pas créer un accident si c'était une crevaison. Le tour d'après, je frappais le mur suite à la crevaison de mon pneu avant droit! »

Raphaël a récolté un « lucky dog » lors d'un drapeau jaune subséquent, un passe-droit pour la première voiture hors du tour du meneur pour gagner un tour, mais ce fut malheureusement insuffisant pour Raphaël, puisqu'il était à deux tours du meneur et en 14 position à ce moment-là. Lessard a cependant été capable de remonter à un tour du meneur et de sécuriser par le fait même une 10e place et ce, malgré des dommages aux freins.

Kyle Busch sera l'un des pilotes en piste, ce sera la deuxième fois que Raphaël aura la chance de se frotter à ce champion de NASCAR.

Jacques en tête du Sportsman for the Cup

Le Samedi 19 août prochain, à l'Autodrome Saint-Eustache se tiendra le 3 round du Sportsman for the Cup.

Après l'épreuve qui s'est tenue vendredi dernier à l'Autodrome Chaudière, nous connaissons maintenant les 6 pilotes qui feront partie du 3e round.

En première position, avec 1215 points, on retrouve le #67 Dominic Jacques de Vallée-Jonction. Avec sa victoire à l'Autodrome Chaudière, le pilote commandité par Boul Lexus-Toyota/ Letourno/ Centre de l'Auto Vallée-Jonction était automatiquement classé pour le round mais cette première position est un plus pour l'équipe qui vise avant tout de terminer au 1er rang du championnat. Rappelons que Jacques avait réussi à monter sur le podium à l'Autodrome Saint-Eustache lors de son premier programme avec la Série Sportsman Qc Lucas Oil.

En 2e position, avec 1213 points, on retrouve le #22 Louis-Philippe Labrecque de Saint-Damien. À bord de sa Ford Fusion commandité par Ford Appalaches, Labrecque sera un compétiteur à surveiller lui qui connaît d'excellent résultats depuis quelques programmes.

À égalité avec 1209 points, on retrouve ensuite le #88 Xavier Pelchat de Saint-Félicien et le #37 Dany Gariepy de Beauport.

Pelchat a bord de sa voiture aux couleurs d'Auberge 4 Saisons ne cesse de nous surprendre lui qui a terminé au 5e rang du dernier programme. Il est certain qu'il désire se rendre au dernier round mais il est conscient du travail à faire pour la prochaine course lui qui n'a jamais coursé sur ce tracé.

Quant au #37 Dany Gariepy commandité par Pavé Concept, fort de son premier podium en Sportsman Qc il mettra tout en oeuvre pour aller chercher le meilleur résultat.

Le #41 Samuel Charland de Victoriaville occupe le 5e rang du classement du Sportsman for the Cup. Lui qui a déjà sa place pour la finale ne se contentera pas de suivre la cadence. Commandité par Charest International, Charland vise la victoire.

Le dernier pilote à se classer pour la prochaine étape est le #07 Jonathan Cote de Saint-Jean-Chrysostome. Aux couleurs de 7/24 Express, c'est par 1 point qu'il accède au 3e round. Lui qui a connu un programme difficile à Vallée-Jonction saura se reprendre sans aucun doute sur le tracé de Saint-Eustache. Un type de piste où il nous a habitué à de belles performances.

Malheureusement, le pilote de la voiture #13 Michael Tremblay qui a remporté sa qualification lors du dernier programme est éliminé de la course du Sportsman for the Cup et ce par un seul point.

Le #25 Pier-Luc Labbé ne passera pas non plus à la prochaine étape. Le pilote de Saint-Joseph-de-Beauce a obtenu un résultat de 1196 suite aux malchances du programme de Saint-Félicien.

Aussi éliminé de la course au championnat le #48 Dave Caron et le #89 Marc Bertrand.

Les deux prochaines semaines seront occupées pour nos pilotes qui mettront tous les efforts nécessaires pour mettre en piste des voitures compétitives pour notre retour à l'Autodrome Saint-Eustache!

AT SPEEDWAY 51 POWERED BY THE AUTOSAVER GROUP

Mother Nature forced Speedway 51 powered by the Autosaver Group to postpone this past Saturday night's racing activities at the high banked ¼ mile asphalt speedway located in Groveton, New Hampshire. The event was to have been the rebirth of the Jake McDowell Memorial Classic, aka "The Jake Race."The 50 lap event for the Caron Fabrication Street Stocks was scheduled for three segments, 15, 16, and 19 laps, and was sponsored by the Sign Depot and Pepsi.

The race is tentatively rescheduled for Saturday night, August 19^th at 6pm. The event will feature the Caron Fabrication Street Stocks, Perras Ace Hardware Tiger Sportsman, A.B. Excavating Daredevils, White Mountains Community College Cyclones and the Twisted Tea Angels. Negotiations are ongoing to also bring back the Granite State Legends and Bandoleros.

RETURN THIS SATURDAY NIGHT

This Saturday night, August 12^th, the North Country Ford Late Models return for Round #4 of their Series at Speedway 51 powered by the Autosaver Group in Groveton, New Hampshire. The headlining Late Models will race for 75 green flag laps. Joining the Late Models will be the Perras Ace Hardware Tiger Sportsman, Caron's Fabrication Street Stocks and the A.B. Excavating Daredevils, plus a Kids Candy Scramble at intermission. All the activities will be sponsored by Mom's of Lancaster. Post time is 6pm.

Red Hot Corey Mason will lead the way in the North Country Ford Late Models as he has scored two wins and a third in the first three races. Right on his heels is Graniteville, Vermont's Chip Grenier, who owns the other win. Others to watch will be Mike Kenison, Randy Potter, Brendan Moodie and the rest of the very competitive field. This event will go a long ways in deciding the Late Model championship on Saturday, August 26^th.

"Racing has been incredible all season long stated Track owner Joey Laquerre, we are expecting nothing less this weekend. Our divisions are extremely competitive and really keep you on the edge of your seat all night long. This Saturday night should be awesome!"

Raabe Rebounds; Cleveland Dominates

PLATTSBURGH – Chris Raabe collected his fifth Egglefield Ford 358 Modified feature win at Airborne Park Speedway on Saturday night.

Steve Bernier took the lead on lap-4 and led until a lap-15 yellow flag for Jake Scarborough's spin in turn one. Bernier would select the outside lane to restart next to Raabe. On the restart Raabe would pull to the lead, only to have Bernier make contact with him in turn two that would send Raabe's No. 01 machine around. Raabe, however was able to keep the car rolling and continued in the seventh position.

The yellow flag flew again on lap-26 and Raabe had rallied to the second spot, awaiting an opportunity to get back at Bernier. Bernier elected to restart on the inside, but Raabe aced the restart and drove home to the victory.

"He definitely got my attention there in turn 2," Raabe said. "I think it fired me up enough to get back in a position to challenge for the win."

Bernier would finish second with Todd Stone coming home third. Greg Atkins and Simon Perrault completed the top five.

The Fidelis Care Sportsman point leader, Connor Cleveland, found victory lane for the second time in 2017. Cleveland drove from position twelve on the starting grid to the top spot.

Chris Cayea led the opening laps of the race before Cleveland would eventually run him down on lap-10. In his progress to the front, Cleveland made two exceptional moves to put him in position to win. One move was three-wide on the cushion out of turn four and the other was a four-wide move in which he was able to slice through the middle of turn two.

"I saw Moïse had a good run on the bottom and I knew I needed to get to the front and make sure he didn't run away." Cleveland explained in victory lane.

Moïse Pagé would settle for second with Joey Scarborough finishing third. Nick Heywood rallied from an early spin to finish fourth. Apparent fifth place finished, Adam Gage was disqualified following post-race technical inspection for an ignition infraction. Bucko Branham was placed fifth.

The Poirier's True Value Renegade division has a first-time winner, however on track winner Shawn Duquette failed post-race technical inspection for a suspension infraction. Michael Wright will inherit the race win. Mark Caron, Jimmy Bushey and Brent Jarvis complete the top five.

Kris Clark continued his dominance in the Busch Beer Mini-Mod division by scoring his fifth win of the season. Michael Whalen and Roger LaBounty finished second and third, respectively.

Shawn Walker found victory lane for the second time in the Strictly Stock division. Nathan Smart and Rolland Guay completed the top 3.

WEST HAVEN, Vt. – Devil's Bowl Speedway has cancelled its Asphalt Track racing program on Saturday, August 5, due to rain and saturated grounds. The event was scheduled to be the sixth annual "C.J. Richards Memorial" sponsored by Carrara Masonry & Concrete for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series, along with an Enduro Series race.

The C.J. Richards Memorial race for the O'Reilly Auto Parts Sportsman Modifieds has been rescheduled for Saturday, August 19, as part of the Rutland Regional Medical Center's annual "Hometown Heroes" Night. The Enduro Series race has also been added to the program.

Racing at the Dirt Track at Devil's Bowl Speedway is still on as scheduled for Sunday, August 6, with double features for the Sportsman Modified, Super Stock, Mini Stock, and Catamount Mini Sprint divisions presented by Liberty Street Discount Beverage & Deli. General admission is $12.00 for adults, $10.00 for seniors (62+), $5.00 for teenagers (13-17), and free for kids age 12 and under. Gates open at 5:00 p.m., and racing begins at 6:00 p.m.

Gariepy accède à son premier podium

C'est ce vendredi 4 août, sur le tracé de l'Autodrome Chaudière, qu'avait lieu la dernière manche du 2e round du Sportsman for the Cup.

Le #37 Dany Gariepy de Beauport avait déjà donné le ton à sa journée en réalisant le meilleur temps de la 1ere séance de pratique. En 2e séance, le #77 Mickael Isabelle de Shannon a réalisé le meilleur temps suivi par 0,011 seconde par le #41 Samuel Charland de Victoriaville.

Tremblay remporte sa 1ere qualification

Lors de la première séance de qualification, le #13 Michael Tremblay à bord de sa Chevrolet SS aux couleurs de Centurion Fondation est partie sur la 1ere ligne. Le pilote de Notre-Dame-des-Monts a mené cette qualification de 12 tours avec rapidité ce qui lui a valu la victoire de cette séance.

Le #22 Louis-Philippe Labrecque commandité par Ford Appalaches a continué sur sa lancée en remportant la 2eséance de qualification.

Une finale de 50 tours sur le vert !

Le départ pour la finale s'est donné avec le #25 Pier-Luc Labbé de Saint-Joseph-de-Beauce et le #37 Dany Gariepy sur la 1ere ligne. Une course de 50 tours qui s'est dérouléesans aucun arrêt et qui nous a donné droit à de très beaux dépassements. Si en début de course, les pilotes démontraient des signes d'impatience, les directeurs de courses André Poulin et Dany Côté ont été bien clairs sur leurs intentions en pointant le drapeau noir roulé à titre d'avertissement aux pilotes plus téméraires.

Prenant les devants vers le 10e tour, le #67 Dominic Jacques de Vallée-Jonction a mené l'épreuve jusqu'à la fin prenant avec une avance sur ces compétiteurs qui, sans ralentissement, n'ont pu le rattraper.

Le #41 Samuel Charland commandité par Charest International a pris le départ en 5e position. Il a mené une chaude lutte avec le #37 Dany Gariepy pour la 2e position. Son expérience acquise sur le tracé ainsi qu'un pilotage sans faille lui a donné accès à la deuxième marche du podium.

Quelle belle performance du #37 Dany Gariepy qui remporte son 1er podium en carrière avec la Série. Il a été non seulement très rapide en piste, mais a mené une course exemplaire. C'est avec patience et agilité que le pilote commandité par Pavé Concept obtient, avec sa 3e position, son premier podium avec la Série Sportsman Qc Lucas Oil. Un podium bien mérité après tout le travail mis par son équipe et lui.

Le top 5 est complété par le #22 Louis-Philippe Labrecque de Saint-Damien et le #88 Xavier Pelchat de Saint-Félicien qui ne cesse de surprendre depuis le début de la saison.

Avec cette victoire, le #67 Dominic Jacques commandité par Boul Lexus Toyota-Létourno-Centre de l'Auto Vallée-Jonction vient rejoindre le #41 Samuel Charland et le #22 Louis-Philippe Labrecque qui accède tous les 3 à la prochaine étape du Sportsman for the Cup. Barre, Vt. – Barre's Thunder Road hosts the 33^rd running of the M&M Beverage Enduro 200 this Sunday, August 6. "The People's Race" is one of the most popular on the schedule every year and is shaping up for another successful outing in 2017.

The event routinely draws 100 entries or more with the field full of amateur racers looking to tackle the Barre high banks. Cars will be lined up three-wide to start and there are no yellow flags during the event. The winner will take home $3,000 and bragging rights as the newest Enduro champion. Entry forms will be available the day of the event.

"Ever since the Enduro was first held in 1985, it's been part of the tradition of Thunder Road," track co-owner Cris Michaud said. "For some drivers, it's been a stepping stone into becoming a weekly racer. For others, it's a chance to do something once a year that they might not otherwise get to do. Either way, it's one of the most fun events of the year for the drivers and the fans, and we always look forward to it on the calendar."

The Allen Lumber Street Stocks will be part of the program as well with the annual Brian Perry & Sons Construction Street Stock Special. The $500-to-win 50-lap event is the biggest of the year for the division and is always a high-octane affair.

With a large field expected, the event could also have a major impact on the Street Stock point standings, as just 41 points separate the top seven drivers. Hinesburg's Cooper Bouchard ascended to the head of the class on Thursdayand leads fellow sophomore driver Brandon Lanphear of Morrisville by 11 points with six events remaining.

2015 Street Stock Champion Jamie Davis of Wolcott sits 17 points back in his quest for a second title. Alan Maynard, Kevin Streeter, Reilly Lanphear, and Kelsea Woodard are also in the mix, though Maynard's return on Sunday is in doubt after a vicious wreck on Thursday.

Post time is 6:00pm for the 33^rd M&M Beverage Enduro 200 plus the Brian Perry & Sons Street Stock Special. The pit gates will open at 2:00pm and the front gates will open at 3:00pm. Pre-race safety inspection for Enduro cars begins at12:00pm. Admission is $15 for adults and free for kids 12 and under.

NAPLES, ME (August 3) – In their last opportunity to race prior to the 44^th Annual Scott's Recreation Oxford 250 presented by Fastway Trailer Products, the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) North Super Late Models will be back on trackthis Friday night at Lee USA Speedway in New Hampshire. Coming in to this weekend's action, seven drivers are within striking distance for the championship. With his win last weekend at Oxford Plains, two-time 250 winner, Travis Benjamin, has taken over the points lead, while Glen Luce, Ben Rowe, and DJ Shaw are all within 50 points of the leader. Dave Farrington, Jr., six-time PASS North champion, Johnny Clark, and New Hamsphire's own, Derek Griffith, are all still in the thick of the fight of one of the championship contenders has a hiccup at Lee USA Speedway this weeken.

Another strong field is expected for Friday night's action at Lee USA Speedway including former Oxford 250 winners and Granite State natives, Wayne Helliwell, Jr. and Joey Polewarcyzk, along with Todd Stone, Steve Murphy, Derek Ramstrom, Tracy Gordon, John Salemi, Ryan Green, and Garrett Hall.

All the action gets under way on Friday at Lee USA Speedway with rotating practice for all competing divisions starting at 4 – 6:30 PM. Racing gets under way at 7 PM with heat race action followed by features for the PASS North Super Late Models and NASCAR Whelen All-American Series.
