Oxford Plains Speedway Sold To Tom Mayberry

OXFORD, Maine - Bill Ryan announced today that he has entered into an agreement to sell Oxford Plains Speedway to veteran promoter Tom Mayberry.  The transaction will be finalized this upcoming week.

 

 

"I am extremely happy to announce that I have entered into an agreement to sell Oxford Plains Speedway to Tom Mayberry," Ryan announced.  "Tom is a superb promoter and has great ideas and passion and will undoubtedly continue the success that we have had over the years.  I am confident that under Tom's leadership the Speedway will thrive."

 

Mayberry, a former racer himself, has found a great deal of success as Owner and President of the Pro All Stars Series (PASS).  PASS was founded in 2001 and has since grown to be the nation’s premier sanctioning body for asphalt short track racing.  PASS currently sanctions a variety of stock car divisions throughout North America.

 

Ryan purchased an interest in the Speedway in 1998 and became the sole owner in 2000.  Under his leadership, the Speedway has attracted a number of NASCAR drivers to the TD Bank 250, including recent winners Kevin Harvick and Kyle Busch.  Ryan was recognized by industry group Racing Promotion Monthly three times for his operation of Oxford.  Shortly after taking over the Speedway, he received a Notable Achievement in Racing Promotion for Rehabilitation of a Race Track.  In 2003, he received a Notable Achievement in Racing Promotion for Outstanding Continuing Operation.  In 2008, Ryan was selected by his fellow promoters as the Region One nominee for Auto Racing Promoter of the Year.

Conclusion des quatre championnats ANCA à l'ASE.

Dernière manche de la Triple Couronne Best Buy

 

 

Samedi le 13 octobre avait lieu à l'Autodrome St-Eustache la conclusion des championnats des catégories de l'ANCA pour la saison 2012. Une de ces finales, celle des Sport-Compactes, comptait également pour la dernière épreuve de la Triple Couronne BestBuy.

 

 

26 pilotes Sport Compactes étaient au rendez-vous pour cette finale de 75 tours, Parmi ceux-ci, 15 voitures compétitionnaient pour la Triple Couronne simultanément à leur championnat Lucas Oil local, tandis que le reste du peloton était composé de pilotes qui couraient exclusivement ANCA local ASE.

 

La malchance a joué contre les favoris de l'est alors que le meneur au championnat Bestbuy après les deux premières manches, Steve Godbout (75) de Québec a été trahi par sa mécanique au 34e passage, ce qui l'a contraint à l'abandon. Dominic Jacques (7) de Vallée Jonction avait subit le même sort 14 tours avant, tandis que Olivier L'Abbé-Pelletier quant à lui a réussi à maintenir la voiture #110 en piste jusqu'au 62e tour. Le meilleur du groupe de la région de Québec a été Frédérick Blanchette de Montmagny avec une 13e position à deux tours des meneurs. La malchance de Godbout l'aura relégué au 2e rang au classement de la Triple Couronne.

 

La dévaine des 4 pilotes de l'est aura servi à Jason Morand qui est reparti avec une journée parfaite de 2 victoires et les deux titres, celui de la Triple Couronne et celui du championnat local ANCA. Patrick Boucher (96) et Mathieu Francoeur (71) ont été ceux qui ont monté sur les 2e et 3e marche du podium, derrière Morand, à la fin de cette épreuve de 75 tours.

 

Noter que ces résultats seront rendus officiels mercredi, dû au fait que les transmissions., clutch et flywheels des trois premiers, Morand (59), Boucher (96) et Mathieu Francoeur (71) ont été saisies et seront inspectées ce mardi.

 

LÉGENDE MODIFIÉES

Le favori au championnat Légendes Modifiées STÉPHANE AUBIN est passé près de voir sa confortable avance au classement s'envoler alors qu'il a violemment percuté le mur durant les essais d'avant course. Aubin a pu compter sur la générosité d'Alain Desmeules qui lui a prêté sa voiture #97 afin de sauvé les meubles et finalement préserver son titre, son 4e d'affilé en Légendes Modifiées.

 

24 pilotes Légendes Modifées étaient en piste pour cette finale de 75 tours disputée sous le signe de l'impatience alors que quatre des favoris, Sébastien Lapolice (#11), François Bergeron (#17), Sylvain Denis (#71) et Marcel Tessier (#75) ont ruiné leur journée en moins de 6 tours sur 75 à cause de leur témérité. C'est finalement l'excellent Stéphane Caron (#99) qui a remporté l'épreuve, ce qui lui permis de se hisser au 2e rang au championnat et de se mériter le titre de vice Champion 2012. Il a été suivi sur le podium par Dany's Campeau (#83) et Jimmy Turcotte (#25) de Gatineau. Le Champion Stéphane Aubin est parvenu à terminer en 4e position et sauver son titre avec la voiture de Desmeules. Ghislain Prud'homme (#33) a complété le premier groupe de 5.

 

PRODUCTION ET CHALLENGE 4

 

Steve Ladouceur, de Ste Agathe a remporté le titre de Champion 2012 dans la catégorie Production C'est cependant Alain Bougie (#14) de Blainville qui a remporté la finale de 40 tours devant Patrick Leporé (#12) et Hani Chiniara (#64) de Ville St-Laurent.

 

En Challenge 4, c'est Robert Guindon de Repentigny (#41) qui a été couronné champion 2012. Ce dernier a terminé en deuxième position de la finale de 75 tours derrière le gagnant, Jimmy Morin (#5) de St-Eustache. Jean Phillippe Benoit, le #32 de Laval a, quant à lui pris le 3e rang, suite à une pénalité infligée à Mathieu Latreille qui a été relégué en dernière position suite à des problèmes lors de l'inspection technique.

 

Les champions de toutes les divisions seront honorés le 10 novembre lors du Gala des Champions de l'Autodrome St-Eustache qui sera tenu en la Salle de réception Sous le Charme des Erables de la famille Constantin de St-Eustache.

 

Deux évéments de stock car sont encore au programme de l'Autodrome St-Eustache en 2012, soit le Challenge 200 le 28 octobre et l'Endurance 250, le 4 novembre prochain.

Un banquet de la Série Sportsman mémorable

Québec, 14 octobre 2012

 

Devant 175 personnes (pilotes, équipiers et dignitaires de la Série Sportsman Québec), Karine Poirier, maître de cérémonie, a fait une brève rétrospective de la Saison 2012. Les deux moments forts de cette rétrospective furent l’acclamation par ses pairs de Simon Roussin pour son nouveau record de 6 victoires en une seule saison et un bout de texte paru dans le Nouvelliste de Trois-Rivières à l’effet que M. Dominic Fugère disait que la Série avec remplie ses engagements et qu’il comprenait la décision de la Série Sportsman Québec suite aux évènements du 3 août dernier au GP3R dans le dossier Coupal.

 

Le président de la Série, André Poulin, a pris la parole et nous a confirmé le retour de la Série Sportsman Québec en 2013. À la fin de son discours, il a invité Mme Carmen Dion et M. Danny Gagné co-fondateur d’iSPEEDZONE a adressé quelques mots aux personnes présentes.

Une mention toute spéciale a été remise à la toute première dame pilote de la Série soit Kara Guenette. Ensuite, les cuisiniers de Méchoui international ont offert un repas 4 services dignes de mention qui en a fait saliver plus d’un. Un gros merci à toute l’équipe de Méchoui International et Patrick Rouleau pour la soirée très bien organisée. 

 

 

 

Par la suite, place au Banquet des Champions.

5 nouveaux records de pistes ont été souligné soit Simon Roussin (ASE), Jonathan Côté (Montmagny), Michaël Lavoie (St-Félicien et Sanair) et Simon Dion-Viens (GP3R).

Les dirigeants du Riverside Speedway Ste-Croix, Jean, Guillaume Bergeron et Dany Trépanier ont remis un trophée M. Riverside au pilote ayant accumulé le plus de points lors des trois évènements en 2012. Simon Roussin #66 de Québec fut le récipiendaire.

Pour une 5e année, le Championnat des fournisseurs/constructeurs a été remis à  DGR propriété de Diane Bérubé et Dany Gagnon qui avait accumulé le plus de point lors de ce championnat.

Les dirigeants de l’Autodrome Montmagny, Mélanie Picard et Kenny Thériault ont remis le trophée M. Autodrome Montmagny au pilote ayant accumulé le plus de points lors des quatre courses  en 2012. Steve Malouin McKibbin #45 de Lévis fut le récipiendaire.

SAAS Race Wear a ensuite offert le prix M. Qualification au pilote ayant accumulé le plus de points en qualification en 2012. François Lessard #71 de St-Joseph, se mérite l’habillement pour une équipe de course de 7 personnes.

Par le vote des pilotes et officiels, trois prix ont été remis soit :

Voiture de l’année 2012 remis à l’équipe #17 de Jimmy Nadeau.

Équipe de l’année 2012  remis à l’équipe #66 de Simon Roussin.

Meilleur esprit sportif Location Probec remis à François Lessard #71.

Les entreprises M. P. Roy  ont honoré le pilote qui a fait le plus de dépassement positif en saison (Hard Charger), Simon Roussin #66, mérite ce bel honneur.

Blanchet Racing Team et Canadian Tire souligne les performances de la relève avec la recrue de l’année 2012. Stéphane Fournier #4 de Québec remporte ce titre.

Les 15 premiers pilotes au classement général ont par la suite défilé tour à tour sur la scène pour recevoir leur fond de point annuel.  La Série a souligné le podium 2012. Réjean Blanchet #7 de Québec termine 3e et a connu sa meilleure saison en Sportsman Québec. Simon Roussin #66 termine 2e et le nouveau champion est Steve Malouin McKibbin #45. Il a connu une saison exceptionnelle étant régulier comme une horloge. Il a réalisé 9 top 5 en 11 courses et a remporté la victoire à l’Autodrome St-Félicien.

3 fournisseurs de la Série ont offert par voie de tirage un unit, une carrosserie de type A et une carrosserie (Re-Skin) lors de la soirée.

Gagnant du Re-Skin Five Star/PMR est Pier-Luc Labbé #25 de St-Joseph.

Gagnant du Unit Tubulaire Port City Racecars est Jonathan Côté #07 de St-Jean-Chrysostome.

Gagnant du muscle car type A AR Bodies est Pier-Luc Labbé #25.

En terminant, Bestbuy Pièces D’Autos Rive-Sud par l’entremise de Clément Samson, a remis le prestigieux prix de l’Ambassadeur Bestbuy 2012 à Stéphane Roy #77 de St-Damien pour son travail accompli en piste et hors piste.

ARCA and CRA Announce Sanction Extension for 2013 Season

(WINCHESTER, Ind.) - Officials from the Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA) and Champion Racing Association (CRA) announced today an extension of the formal working relationship between the two motorsports sanctioning bodies.

 

ARCA, currently concluding its 60th Anniversary Season, will sanction the racing activities for the ARCA CRA Super Series once again in 2013. The super late model stock car racing series, founded in 1997, is based in Salem, Ind. Today, Johnny VanDoorn will complete his first championship season under the ARCA and CRA partnership and his third in overall Super Series competition.

 

ARCA president and CEO Ron Drager noted the opportunity for continued growth and development as part of the extended partnership with CRA.

 

"This affiliation has been, right from the beginning, about two strong, stable racing companies joining forces to become even stronger and more stable," Drager said. "As a sport, we need to continue to provide opportunities for drivers, owners, and crew members within auto racing, and support the developmental channels from grassroots to the top tier of the sport."

 

Drager lauded the roles of CRA's managing partners, Glenn Luckett and R.J. Scott, in making the enhanced relationship a reality for another season.

 

"We've worked with Glenn and R.J. for nearly 20 years in various capacities, and connecting with them even more closely in 2012 has proven that they are forward-thinking people who wish to contribute to racing in the right way," Drager said. "CRA is an organization that is respected in racing, and we know that this will continue to be a comfortable fit for developmental racers. The relationship carries significant potential going forward."

 

The sanctioning agreement extension between ARCA and CRA reflects ARCA's interests in supporting and strengthening the sport of stock car racing. The ARCA sanction will continue to provide participants in the ARCA CRA Super Series with ARCA member benefits, including Participant Accident Insurance. ARCA will also continue to provide public relations, race operations, and marketing support to its formal partner, while building on an already strong developmental racing base.

 

Toledo Speedway, one of ARCA's two short track properties, has hosted 13 ARCA CRA Super Series events since 2000, including the season opening 7Up 100 in April. In 2012, Flat Rock Speedway, the ARCA-sanctioned quarter-mile oval in Michigan, hosted the ARCA CRA Super Series for the first time, bringing template-bodied super late model racing back to the suburban Detroit track for the first time in over 15 years.

 

"We look forward to continuing our work with everyone at ARCA," said Luckett. "The ARCA name is well-established in the racing world and well-respected throughout the racing community. We see this relationship as a way to further strengthen CRA and short track racing."

 

The agreement will give the ARCA CRA Super Series champion the opportunity to test an ARCA Racing Series car in the open test at Daytona International Speedway in December 2013. Andy Hillenburg's Fast Track High Performance Driving School, the Official Driving School of ARCA and the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards, will provide the test car and support team. The commitment allows drivers to develop skills within the unified framework of CRA and ARCA.

 

More details surrounding the relationship and the new ARCA CRA Super Series will be provided as they develop.

 

Founded by John and Mildred Marcum in 1953 in Toledo, Ohio, the Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA) is recognized among the leading sanctioning bodies in the country. Southern Illinois 100 at DuQuoin Cancelled for Rain

(TOLEDO, Ohio) - Today's Southern Illinois 100 presented by Federated Car Care at the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds has been cancelled as a result of heavy rain at the race track, and will not be rescheduled.

 

 

The event had already been postponed once, from Labor Day, for rain stemming from Hurricane Isaac's progression through the Midwest. Rain again this weekend forced ARCA and track officials to call the race off yet again after determining that at no time today would the track be suitable for racing, no matter the effort.

 

The ARCA Racing Series season will close in the Kansas Lottery 98.9 at Kansas Speedway on Friday, October 19 - five days from today - with race action starting at 8:30 p.m. ET (7:30 p.m. local) on SPEED. ARCARacing.com will also feature live timing and scoring coverage for the season finale.

 

2012 is the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards' 60th Anniversary Season, featuring 20 races at 18 tracks. The complete 2012 event schedule is available at ARCARacing.com.

 

The ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards has crowned an ARCA national champion each year since its inaugural season in 1953, and has toured over 200 race tracks in 26 states since its inception. Delaware Speedway is looking for the assistance of local on-air and social media to help spread the word that all events for today’s Delaware speedway Pumpkin Smasher are ON AS SCHEDULED.  The event will start at 2:00 pm as planned, RAIN OR SHINE.

 

The afternoon features a Demolition Derby, Bone Stock Chaos Cars, a special Enduro Challenge, and the Open-Ontario Four Cylinder competitors from across the province.  The race is the final event of the 2012 season at the track.

50th People's United Bank Milk Bowl Postponed

Barre, VT - The 50th People’s United Bank Milk Bowl scheduled for Sunday, October 14 at Thunder Road International Speedbowl in Barre, VT has been postponed due to the forecast of heavy rains. The event will be rescheduled for a later date. That date will be announced next week on the American Canadian Tour (www.acttour.com) and Thunder Road (www.thunderroadspeedbowl.com) websites.

 

The 50th Milk Bowl was originally scheduled for the last weekend in September (29th/30th). Qualifying was completed on the 29th with former Milk Bowl Champions Dave Pembroke and Brian Hoar claiming the front row starting spots. The 30 car field was set after 51 cars attempted to qualify.

WEST HAVEN, VT – It’s hell on wheels and Halloween at 100 miles per hour when Devil’s Bowl Speedway opens its gates for the Vermonster 150 Enduro on Saturday, October 20 at 1:00pm.  The rock-‘em-sock-‘em survival race will be held no matter if the forecast calls for rain, shine, snow, or vampire attack.  The event is open to any car, mini-van, or light-duty pickup truck that meets specifications.

 

Entries have already been filed from all corners of Vermont and eastern New York State, and many more are expected leading up to the race.  Should 50 or more racers compete, the victory will be worth a cool $1,500 – all indications indicate a full field will be on hand.  Enduros are run regardless of track or weather conditions, and typically contain a few metal-crunching, bone-jarring, crowd-pleasing wrecks and lots of wild and crazy racing action.  Races are only stopped by a red flag in the event of an emergency.  Vehicles are virtually street-legal with only safety modifications allowed.  All teams are required to provide a scorer for the event, and the first driver completing the full 150-lap distance will be named the winner.

Eric “Mongo” Messier of Hinesburg, VT has won both of the Enduro events held at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in 2012, and is expected to try for the three-peat.  He’ll square off against Hunter “Goose” Murray of Cambridge, VT, Bret “The Jet” Williams of Sudbury, VT, the father-son team of “Wild Bill” Fountain and “Mr. Bojangles” Shawn Fountain of Altona, NY, and many others.  Several drivers from regular stock car racing divisions have expressed interest in competing in the Vermonster 150 and are expected to enter – they’ll be welcome to do so, but will be handicapped to the back of the starting field.

Also on tap for the Vermonster event are the popular and unpredictable Spectator Races, in which race fans push their every-day street vehicles to the test in one-on-one, single-lap elimination races.  Winners in 2012 have included Addison, VT resident Gary Grant in his 2008 Ford Mustang and a 1982 Pontiac Grand Prix piloted by Pat Cram of Whitehall, NY.  A Halloween costume contest will also be held, in which race fans of all ages are encouraged to dress up in their most creative costume designs for prizes.

Versatile ARCA Racing Series, Southern Illinois 100 Turn 60 Together at DuQuoin 
The ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards, celebrating its 60th Anniversary Season in 2012, is again steering for the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds "Magic Mile" dirt, where the 60th running of the Southern Illinois 100 presented by Federated Car Care comes alive Sunday, October 14. The event was originally scheduled for September 3; however, torrential rains caused the race to be postponed.

 

Championship Title Fight Tight at the Top to DuQuoin 
The National Championship battle is coming down to a five-wide fight with 19-year-old Chris Buescher (No. 17 Roulo Brothers Racing Ford) leading over 50-year-old Frank Kimmel (No. 44 Ansell-Menards Toyota). Rookie Brennan Poole (No. 25 Venturini Motorsports Chevrolet) and rookie Alex Bowman (No. 22 Cunningham Motorsports Dodge) are the other players in the mix. Chad Hackenbracht (No. 58 Tastee Apple Chevrolet), currently fifth in points, is mathematically still in too.

 

Stakes High for Buescher and Kimmel at DuQuoin
Buescher, the defending DuQuoin race winner, currently leads Kimmel by 85 points. However, Kimmel dominated with a convincing victory on the Springfield mile dirt in late August, and heads to DuQuoin as a five-time winner of the Southern Illinois 100. The event at the DuQuoin mile dirt will prove absolutely critical in the quest for championship, which will culminate just days later at Kansas Speedway.

 

Kansas Speedway Finales Follows DuQuoin Dirt Track Classic
Just days after the Southern Illinois 100 at DuQuoin, the world's most versatile tour heads further west to the 1.5-mile Kansas Speedway for a Friday night championship finale under the lights October 19. The 12th annual ARCA Kansas Lottery 98.9 will determine a national champion, the Hoosier Tire Superspeedway Challenge Champion, the Team Messina Rookie Challenge Award, and much more. But first, the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds will play a big role in determining the aforementioned championship battles.

 

Team Messina Rookie Challenge, Aaron's Lap Leader Battle Big to DuQuoin 
Alex Bowman (Tucson, Ariz.) is the current Team Messina Rookie Challenge leader headed to DuQuoin. However, Bowman's lead is closely contested by The Woodlands, Texas's Brennan Poole, who drives for Venturini Motorsports. Poole trails Bowman by just four points for the 2012 Team Messina Rookie Challenge Title. Bowman also leads Poole in the Aaron's Lap Leader special award category, having led 487 laps in 11 races. Poole trails in second with 472 laps led in seven races.

 

Reliable Buescher on Track to Complete Every Lap in 2012
Buescher and the No. 17 Roulo Brothers Racing Ford have completed every lap - 2687 in all - over 18 races so far this year, and lead the pursuit of the S&S Volvo Laps Completed Award. If Buescher can complete all 100 laps at DuQuoin, and then all 99 laps in the Kansas Speedway finale, he will become the first driver to complete every lap in an ARCA Racing Series season over a full year's schedule. Frank Kimmel, Buescher's closest challenger for his first series title, has completed only four fewer laps and stands in second place for the award, but Buescher is the driver on the brink of finishing the milestone of race-over-race reliability.

 

Nine Illinoisans Invade ARCA at DuQuoin; UMP Nat'l Late Model Champ Unzicker Entered
DuQuoin always attracts an interesting assortment of Illinoisans to the line-up. This year's entry list includes a strong contingent from the Land of Lincoln including Mark Littleton (Arenzville), AJ Fike (Galesburg), Kelly Kovski (Springfield), Rodney Melvin (Benton), Joe Cooksey (Centralia), Joseph Hughs (Springfield), Shane Cockrum (Benton), Mike Affarano (Shorewood), and Ryan Unzicker (El Paso). Unzicker is the 2011 UMP Late Model National Champion.

 

Kimmel; King of the Clay 
Nine-time ARCA Racing Series champion Frank Kimmel is the all-time, modern-day ARCA dirt winner with 14 wins overall at Springfield, the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds and the West Virginia Motor Speedway. His record at Springfield is especially incredible where, in his last 16 events there, he has won a record eight times. His record at DuQuoin is also impressive. In addition to what could be a good points day, Kimmel could also secure another milestone at DuQuoin with what would be a record sixth victory there. Currently, Kimmel is tied with the late Dean Roper in all-time Southern Illinois 100 wins - each having five victories in the prestigious stock car classic. Kimmel can also surpass Billy Thomas as the all-time Southern Illinois lap leader. Should Kimmel lead 12 laps Sunday, Thomas's record will fall. Thomas has led 437 laps at DuQuoin to Kimmel's 426. Kimmel's most recent victory at Springfield was his 76th career ARCA win, just three shy of Iggy Katona's all-time win mark of 79.

 

Venturini Motorsports Times Five at DuQuoin; Armstrong, Chili Bowl Champ Swindell, More Venturini Motorsports has entered five teams at DuQuoin, including Indianan Caleb Armstrong in the No. 15 Everfi-Drive For Savings Chevrolet and the No. 55 Curb Records Chevrolet with Kevin Swindell in the driver's seat. Swindell, the son of World of Outlaws Sprint Car Champion Sammy Swindell, has won the last three consecutive Chili Bowl National Midget events. Swindell, in his first ARCA start on dirt at Springfield in late August, finished third behind winner Frank Kimmel and runner-up driver Alex Bowman. Other Venturini Motorsports entrants include Brennan Poole in the No. 25 Venturini Motorsports Chevrolet. Poole, from The Woodlands, Texas, is still very much in the championship hunt in third position, 175 points from the leader Chris Buescher. The remaining Venturini Motorsports entrants are Nelson Canache (Caracas, Venezuela) in the No. 35 Venezuela Tourism Chevrolet, and Ryan Unzicker (El Paso, Ill.) in the No. 66 RJR Transportation Chevrolet.

 

Past Southern Illinois 100 Winners List Impressive
The past winners list of the Southern Illinois 100 includes some of the greatest names in motorsports. Jay Frank won the inaugural Southern Illinois 100 in 1950. Just some of the winners who would follow include Marshall Teague, Indy 500 winners Jimmy Bryan and AJ Foyt, Fred Lorenzen, Don White, Norm Nelson, Jack Bowsher, NASCAR champions Rusty Wallace and Tony Stewart, Bob Keselowski, Frank Kimmel, Billy Thomas, Ken Schrader, Parker Kligerman, and most recently, Chris Buescher, in 2011.

 

Oldest to Youngest
Sixty one years separate the oldest driver from the youngest driver entered in the field for Sunday's Southern Illinois 100. James Hylton, who turned 78 on August 26, is the oldest while high school senior Mason Mingus is the youngest at just 17. Mingus, who drives the No. 32 Diamond Equipment Toyota for Win-Tron Racing, is the Captain of his high school Tennessee state championship wrestling team. Hylton was the 1966 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Rookie of the Year.

Let the Autumn Colours Classic Fun and Games Begin

The turkey, mashed potatoes and stuffing can wait.  Motorsports fans are giving thanks for the 20th Annual Edition of the Autumn Colours Classic – presented by Lucas Oil Products – October 5th, 6th and 7th at Peterborough Speedway.  It’s a late season racing experience, labelled by fans across the province as the year’s must-see event. Track owner/promoter J.P. Josiasse says the area around the tight, 1/3rd mile oval turns into its own little community during the 3 day extravaganza.

“Even when the cars aren’t on the track, there’ll be something going on around the clock,” said Josiasse.  “The camping area has been booked for over a month and everyone has a great time.  We have more than a half a dozen different divisions running throughout the entire weekend.  Some people will come for a day or 2, but the real diehards – those who are here every year – roll in Friday morning and unless they need to restock their supplies, don’t leave until the final checkered flag Sunday night.”

 

Although the pit gates don’t officially open until 10:00 Friday morning, track officials are on hand Thursday night to allow teams to search out the prime pit area parking spots.  Social media sites like Facebook and Twitter were buzzing about drivers lining-up as early as 10:30 Wednesday morning, looking to grab one of the limited number of stalls with the concrete pads.  Josiasse says its part of the routine for the Autumn Colours’ regulars.

 

“I’m used to it, so it really doesn’t faze me anymore,” said the track’s head honcho.  “Most years, there are so many race teams in the pits; we have to put some of them in the parking lot.  Once the racing gets underway, you’d almost need a shoehorn to find a spot to sit in the grandstands.”

 

Capturing an Autumn Colours Classic main event win isn’t just another checkered flag.  It could very well be the moment that defines your motorsports career.  Just ask Nick Lees, Chris Mitchell, Daryl Fice, Tyler Hendricks, Dan McHattie or Rick Walt.  They’re just some of the names who found their way to victory lane during the 2011 edition of the event.

 

For early arrivals, the concessions stands at Peterborough Speedway will be serving breakfast all 3 days.  Pit gates open all 3 days at 10:00.  Friday, October 5th, practice rounds start at 1:00 and racing at 6:00.  Saturday, October 6th, practice begins at 1:00 and racing at 3:30.  Sunday, October 7th is a full day of feature race action beginning at 12:30.

Le Fall Foliage reporté

Huit fois champion de l’ACT, Brian Hoar, tentera samedi à l’occasion du Fall Foliage 200 qui sera couru à la piste Airborne de Plattsburgh de récolter un neuvième titre. En effet, il s’agira alors de la dernière épreuve comptant pour le championnat américain en 2012.

 

 

Actuellement, c’est Wayne Helliwell Jr. qui détient le haut du pavé avec 820 points, soit une mince priorité de huit points alors qu’Austin Theriault est troisième avec un déficit de 38 points. Ses chances ne sont donc que mathématiques.

 

Au sujet de ce Fall Foliage dont c’est la 38e édition, Hoar l’a remporté en deux occasions, soit en 2000 et 1997.

 

Sur le plan québécois, Patrick Laperle de St-Denis-sur-Richelieu, au volant de sa Fusion Lasalle/Ford tentera y remporter une cinquième victoire après avoir paradé dans le cercle des vainqueurs en 2010,2009, 2005 et 1999. Il sera rejoint par le vice-champion de la série ACT-Castrol, Jean-François Déry de Québec qui tentera de prendre place sur le podium. Il a connu une excellente saison au volant de sa Camry/Portes & Fenêtres Giguère. C’est un objectif qu’il peut réaliser avec un peu de chance.

 

Donald Theetge de Boischatel sera au nombre des Québécois, tout comme Sylvain Lacombe de Terrebonne et Patrick Cliche de St-Jean-Chrysostome. Pour leur part, Simon Roussin qui pilotera la voiture de Paul Michaud et Martin Goulet en seront à une première visite.

 

Au même programme on pourra applaudir les pilotes des divisions Sportsman modifié et Renegade. On pourra entrer sur le site à compter de dix heures.

10/5 RACING CANCELED

 

Tonight's racing for 10/5 has been cancelled due to Track Conditions. Several inches of rain over the past several days have completely saturated the grounds in and around the Speedway making the surface un-safe for racing at this time. 

 

Race Director Butch Pierce has been monitoring the situation over the past couple days and has determined that in the interest of safety for our competitors this was the only decision that could be made at this time.

 

We apologize for the inconvenience and look forward to seeing everyone for our next scheduled event on Friday October 19th.

ACT Finale Postponed to Sunday

Waterbury, VT – The Rent-A-Wreck Fall Foliage 200 at Plattsburgh, NY’s Airborne Speedway scheduled for Saturday, October 6 has been postponed due to rain, and will be run the next day, Sunday, October 7th. The race, which is the final event of the 2012 American Canadian Tour season, will have a post time of 1:00pm.

 

 The duel between Dover, NH’s Wayne Helliwell, Jr. and Williston, VT’s Brian Hoar will have to wait another day, but will resume on Sunday to settle the American Canadian Tour Championship. Helliwell, who currently leads Hoar by eight points, is looking to claim his first ACT Championship, while Hoar tries to earn an unprecedented ninth.

 

Joey Polewarczyk, Jr., who won last year’s event, will try to repeat the feat, but he will face challenges from Fort Kent, ME’s Austin Theriault, Milton, VT’s Brent Dragon, Groveton, NH’s Randy Potter, as well as 7-time American Canadian Tour Champion Jean Paul Cyr.

 

Airborne Speedway Renegades and 602 Modifieds will also be on the action-packed card, battling it out with 30 lap features for money and glory with their championship point battles already wrapped up.

 

The ACT season will conclude this Sunday, October 7 with the Rent-A-Wreck Fall Foliage 200 at Airborne Speedway in Plattsburg, NY. Post time is 1pm.

Lap After Lap, Points Leader Buescher Moves Closer to ARCA History

(TOLEDO, Ohio) - With two races remaining in the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards season, points leader Chris Buescher can thank consistency for placing him on the verge of ARCA history.

 

Buescher and the No. 17 Roulo Brothers Racing Ford have completed every lap - 2687 in all - over 18 races so far this year, and lead the pursuit of the S&S Volvo Laps Completed Award.

 

One point toward the S&S Volvo Laps Completed Award is earned for every lap completed by an ARCA Racing Series driver carrying on their car the decal of S&S Volvo & GMC Truck of Lima, Ohio. S&S Volvo is a participating company in ARCA's expansive, multi-tiered sponsor program.

 

Frank Kimmel, Buescher's closest challenger for his first series title, has completed only four fewer laps and stands in second place for the award, but Buescher is the driver on the brink of finishing the milestone of race-over-race reliability.

 

Complete series records dating back to 1979, and partial records stretching over a decade beyond that, show that Buescher could become the first driver in at least 45 seasons to complete every lap in an ARCA Racing Series season. Several drivers have come close in recent years, but from the 1968 season forward, no driver has been able to complete every lap contested over a full year's schedule.

 

One hundred laps at the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds and 99 at Kansas Speedway remain for Buescher to wrap up the championship, the special award, and a new line in ARCA's records. He leads Kimmel by 85 points in the overall series standings, and has a series-high four wins.

 

Brennan Poole is currently third among participating drivers with 2633 laps completed in races in which he carried the decal. Matt Lofton is fourth with 2625, and Chad Hackenbracht is fifth with 2400.

 

The DuQuoin State Fairgrounds dirt in Illinois will host ARCA on Sunday, October 14, in a makeup of the rained-out Southern Illinois 100 presented by Federated Car Care from Labor Day weekend.

 

ARCARacing.com will feature live timing and scoring coverage throughout the day, and ARCA Racing Network hosts Charlie Krall and Tim Clagg will deliver a live audio call for the 3 p.m. ET (2 p.m. local) race on the site.

 

Five days later - on Friday, October 19 - the season will close in the Kansas Lottery 98.9 at Kansas Speedway, with race action starting at 8:30 p.m. ET (7:30 p.m. local) on SPEED. ARCARacing.com will also feature live timing and scoring coverage for the season finale.

NICK SWEET BACK BEHIND NDS MOTORSPORTS WHEEL AT ROCKINGHAM

LAVAL, QC – La fin de semaine dernière, à Thunder Road Speedbowl dans le cadre du 50th Milk Bowl,  lors d’une des nombreuses interruption pour la pluie, j’ai discuté avec Nick Sweet, champion 2010 et 2012 de la piste de Thunder Road.

LAVAL, QC – Last weekend at Thunder Road during one of the many interruption in the program due to rain, I got to speak with Nick Sweet, the 2010 and 2012 Thunder Road Speedbowl track Champion.

 

La veille, Sweet avait participé dans l’épreuve NASCAR K&N East à la piste de Dover International, un deuxième départ en carrière, pour le pilote de Barre, VT.  Sweet au volant de la NDS Motorsports No. 53 a terminé 13e.

 

« J’ai eu beaucoup de plaisir.  J’étais compétitif, une panne d’essence nous a privée d’un top-10 » a mentionné le pilote.

 

« Je me sentais nettement plus heureux après l’épreuve de Dover que celle de Loudon (New Hampshire Motor Speedway).  Nous avions suivi le plan de match et fait notre course loin du danger.  À la fin, pour éviter un carambolage sur le droit arrière, je me suis dirigé dans l’herbe.  La voiture avait un peu de dommage et pour ne pas empirer les choses, comme c’était la même voiture que l’ont utilisait à Dover la semaine suivante, nous avons décidé de stationner la voiture.  Après le fait, c’était la bonne décision où je n’aurais peut être pas pu courir à Dover, mais à ce moment là j’étais déçu » ajouta le pilote du Vermont.

 

Depuis le gérant de l’équipe  NDS Motorsport, Steve Hibbard, a retenu les services de Sweet pour l’épreuve de fin de saison NASCAR K&N East à la piste de Rockingham le 3 novembre prochain.

 

En plus de conduire pour NDS Motorsports, Sweet a piloté hebdomadairement à la piste de Thunder Road où il a remporté un deuxième titre de Champion et il a fait quelques courses ACT Tour Late Model Sportsman.

 

Sweet competed the day before in the NASCAR K&N East Series at Dover International, a second career start for the Barre, VT driver.  Sweet driving the Georgia, VT based NDS Motorsports No. 53 finished 13th .

 

“I had alot of fun.  I was competitive and we should have finished in the top-10.  But we ran out of gas” declared the talented driver.

 

“It definitely felt a lot better after the race than I did at Loudon (New Hampshire Motor Speedway), where we stuck to the game plan and raced out of harm’s way for the entire race.  At the end, I avoided a wreck on the back stretch  by going thru the infield grass.  The car had some front end damage, since it’s the same car the team was going to provide me for Dover we decided to park it in order to salvage it and prevent further damage.  In insight it was a good decision or I may not have had the opportunity to race Dover” added the Vermont driver.

Since, NDS Motorsports Team Manager Steve Hibbard has retained Sweet’s services for the NASCAR K&N East Series season ending event at Rockingham Speedway on November 3rd.

 

In addition to driving for NDS Motorsports, Sweet raced weekly at Thunder Road Speedbowl where he won a second Championship and select ACT Tour Late Model Sportsman events.

Vermonster 150 Enduro Returns to Devil's Bowl Speedway

WEST HAVEN, VT – It’ll be Halloween at 100 miles per hour on Saturday, October 20, as the Vermonster 150 Enduro returns to Devil’s Bowl Speedway in West Haven, VT.  The race is a survival-of-the-fittest test for man, woman, and machine, featuring strictly stock automobiles bashing and smashing their way around the half-mile oval for 150 laps.  With Vermont’s unpredictable fall weather a possible factor, management has decided to hold the race whether there’s rain, sun, or even snow.

 

The Vermonster 150 will be the third Enduro race of the season at Devil’s Bowl Speedway, and Hinesburg’s Eric “Mongo” Messier will have the opportunity to win the trifecta.  Messier piloted two different Ford Probes to win 75-lap races in June and August.  More than 40 cars and drivers entered the last Enduro; should 50 or more enter the Vermonster, the first driver to complete the 150-lap distance will earn a cool $1,500 top prize.

In addition to the Enduro, the Vermonster event will also feature the always exciting Spectator Races that pit street-legal vehicles against each other in one-lap, single-elimination match-ups.  Brothers Gary and Gerald of Addison, VT have provided a few thrills in the Spectator Races this year; Gary’s 2008 Ford Mustang defeated Gerald’s 2010 Toyota Tundra pick-up truck in June.  Pat Cram of Whitehall, NY beat Tyler Davis of Mount Holly, VT with his 1982 Pontiac Grand Prix in August after Gerald Grant’s truck nearly hit the concrete retaining wall in a preliminary race.

General admission for the Vermonster 150 Enduro is only $5 for adults, and free for children 12 and under.  Registration to compete in the Enduro is $20 per car, and pit admission is $30.  Rules and entry blanks are available online at www.devilsbowlspeedwayvt.com or by calling (802) 265-3112.  The pre-registration deadline is Monday, October 15 at 5:00pm.
