Randy Hill Racing; Casey Roderick Flex Early Weekend Muscle At Phoenix

 

 

 

 

AVONDALE, Arizona (March 2, 2012) - - Before Friday’s first practice session at Phoenix (Ariz.) International Raceway (PIR) for the NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) Lawrenceville, Georgia native Casey Roderick had never seen the one-mile oval but after producing the 18th quickest lap it was evident that the rookie was adapting well.  

 

The strong day for Randy Hill Racing (RHR), one of the newest teams on the NNS circuit continued into “happy hour”, the final practice session leading up to qualifying and the race when Roderick maneuvered the No. 08 RandyHillRacing.com Ford Mustang to the 15th quickest lap after posting a time of 27.131 seconds at 132.690 miles per hour ahead of some of the series’ finest including Kyle Busch, Danica Patrick, Joe Nemechek and Michael Annett.

With the Mooresville, North Carolina-based team showing some early weekend strength, the team is looking forward to time trials tomorrow morning and a sizzling finish in the Bashas’ Supermarkets 200.

“We have a really good No. 08 RandyHillRacing.com Ford Mustang this weekend,” said Roderick, whose poised to make his fifth career start at PIR. “Paul (Andrew, crew chief), David (Ingram, car chief) and the entire Randy Hill Racing team have really done a magnificent job getting this car to haul the mail. We just kept getting better and better as the day progressed and that has me really looking forward to the rest of the weekend.”

Randy Hill, car owner and a successful entrepreneur, rancher and inventor from Texas nearly echoed his driver’s sentiments.

“I can’t begin to tell you how pleased I am about the effort and success of the team thus far this weekend at Phoenix,” offered Hill. “Casey, Paul and the entire RHR team really put a lot of effort into the car today and it showed with our on-track results. The morale around the team is positive and that’s a good feeling for us all heading into race day tomorrow.”

In the first practice session of the day, Roderick, 19 laid down 31 laps with the quickest coming on lap 25 after negotiating a lap of 27.605 seconds or 130.411 miles per hour. While in the final session, Roderick’s 29th and final lap was their quickest of the weekend in the extremely tight and competitive field.

Randy Hill Racing is a go-or-go-homer car heading into Coors pole qualifying tomorrow morning slated to begin at 11:05 a.m. MST. The team is slated to roll off 30th of the 44 entries filed for the second race of the season. Roderick was the third quickest of the 14 cars in the same scenario as RHR for qualifications thus placing them deep in the qualifying order.

The Bashas’ Supermarkets 200 (200 laps / 200 miles) is the second of 33 events on the 2012 NASCAR Nationwide Series schedule. Qualifying is set for Saturday, March 3 scheduled to lift off at 11:05 a.m. live on SPEED. The field will take the green flag later that day just after 2:30 p.m. with live coverage on ESPN2, the Motor Racing Network (Radio) and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio (Satellite Radio, Channel 90). Pre-race coverage of the anticipated thriller is tentatively scheduled to lift off at 2:00 p.m. also on ESPN2. All times are local.
