Airborne takes a rainout
For immediate release – Airborne Speedway – Sunday, June 3, 2012 SOUTH PLATTSBURGH – Airborne Speedway returns to action Saturday, June 9 on Aarons/Taylor Rental after being rained out over the weekend. All five weekly divisions are scheduled and another large field of DIRTcar Modifieds is expected. |
Airborne’s Ernie’s Discount Tools Modifieds are proving to be an evenly matched bunch so far in 2012. With five events in the books, fifteen different drivers have managed at least one top-5 finish and only one – George Foley of Vermontville – has managed more than a single win. Third-place finishes have been working out for current point leader Pat McGrail of Candiac, QC. The driver of the Fastenal No. 10 has recorded three third-place runs as well as a 5th-place effort opening day. McGrail leads Todd Stone of Middlebury, VT by 10 points and two-time track champion Patrick Dupree of Saranac Lake by 12 points. All three drivers have had to come from deep in the field to have successful nights, either because of the handicap system, tough luck or both. Airborne has started an average of 27 cars per Modified feature, one of the best turnouts in the Northeast. Foley, the Memorial day weekend winner after blowing a motor the week before, has climbed back into picture. He is now 10 points behind fourth-place Greg Atkins of Clintonville. The Modifieds have a special mid-week event – the opening round of the DIRTcar 358-Modified Asphalt Series – coming up Wednesday, June 20. Presented by Della Motorsports, Northline Utilities and Haley Lumber, the race will pay $3,000-to-win. Contact: Tom Herzig |
