Donny Beatty is looking for Some Strength in the Numbers

The veteran racer from Beaverton, Ontario – who captured the track’s 2006 Thunder Car point title – is currently 4th in the division, but just 1 point behind the driver in 3rd spot and 8 markers ahead of the 5th place runner. While he knows a lot can change in the final show of the year, the driver of the #40 Wintermere Sod Farms/Dale’s Transmission Service/Durham Furnace/Nick Oram Auto Body/My Mechanic Auto Repair/Junior’s Tire Service/Steve Barrett Realty/Better Build Construction and Roofing Chevrolet says he isn’t worried. |
“I can’t do anything about it,” said Beatty with a shrug. “The only car I can control is my own, so it’s really out of my hands. I’ll just get in, drive it and hope for the best. It looks like Matt has the championship locked-up, but there is a lot that can change through the rest of the positions in the top 10.” After starting the year with a hard crash at another track, Beatty’s program has turned the corner at Kawartha. Even though he hasn’t found his way to victory lane, he has returned to the solid form that paved the way for his homecoming at the Fraserville, Ontario oval and a strong performance during the 2011 campaign. While he’d love to get back to the routine that earned his track championship, Donny Beatty says he’s keenly aware of how much the sport changed during his brief self-imposed sabbatical. “It seems like everyone out there has taken things to another level,” said Beatty. “The teams that were running 7th or 8th are winning races now. Guys who ran outside the top 10 are finishing 5th or better on a regular basis. It’s tough, but I’m still having fun and that’s what keeps me coming back. I love the level of competition at Kawartha and everyone at the track is just terrific. Win or lose, it’s a great place to race.” The Thunder Car point battle is the tightest of all the regular divisions at the 3/8th mile oval, but positions could change through the NAPA Auto Parts ACT Late Model and Hasiuk Trailer and Container Rental Mini Stock standings on Kawartha Speedway’s last night of the year as well. Kawartha klips: The final regular event of the 2012 season – Friday, September 7th – will be a full night of action at the Fraserville 3/8th miler. In addition to a 50 lap feature for the Hasiuk Trailer and Container Rental Mini Stocks, racing also includes Thunder Cars and the NAPA Auto Parts ACT Late Models. The annual 75 lap Don Biederman Memorial for the OSCAAR Super Late Models, the first Kawartha appearance by the OSCAAR Modifieds and the 4th run for the Ontario Legends Series will also be on the show. Gates will open at 3:00; with racing starting at 6:00...The NASCAR Canadian Tire Series will crown this year’s champion at the 250 lap season finale Saturday, September 22nd.
