ACT VETERANS LOOK FOR FIRST LEE GOVERNOR’S CUP WIN
ACT VETERANS LOOK FOR FIRST LEE GOVERNOR'S CUP WIN For Immediate Release: ACT – 032514-8 Waterbury, VT –There are a number of veteran American Canadian Tour (ACT) stock car drivers looking for their first wins in the traditional spring opening event at the Lee USA Speedway's New Hampshire Governor's Cup 150 on Sunday, April 13, 2014. Coming fresh off his NASCAR K&N win at the rugged Bristol Motor Speedway, Eddie MacDonald from Rowley, MA has to be considered a favorite to win at his family-owned track. "I would think that a betting man might be smart to forget the NCAA Final Four and drop a dime on the "Outlaw" winning the annual ACT opener," said ACT President, Tom Curley. "Eddie has won ACT races before, and he has been in a position to win at Lee on several occasions over the years, but has not grabbed the checkers yet. He usually finds a way to get to the front, although his schedule usually does not allow for much practice compared to other teams. He still is long overdue to win the New Hampshire Governor's Cup," concluded Curley. Another veteran of the ACT Late Model circuit favored to win includes two-time and defending ACT Champion Wayne Helliwell, Jr. from nearby Dover, NH. Helliwell is the most winning Late Model driver in Lee USA history and is a multi-time Lee champion, but he has yet to hoist the Governor's Cup. "It is not from lack of trying, but we just haven't been able to get it done yet. I am hoping this is the year, but as we all know, opening days can bring lots of surprises," said Helliwell. Ray Parent from Tiverton, RI finished in the top five a year ago. "This should be a break-out season for the 17 RI team. After winning the Bond Auto ACT Invitational at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway two years ago, Ray came into the 2013 season ready to challenge. I would expect him to be a championship contender, and he runs good at Lee," said Dean Gallison, Director of Competition at ACT. There are over 40 teams expected to compete at the opening event at the Lee USA Speedway opener. Teams from all 6 New England states, New York, and the province of Quebec will get their first racing experience in the traditional opener. Early favorites include defending champion Jimmy Hebert from Williamstown, VT, previous winner of the NH Governor's Cup and early 2014 ACT title contender Hudson, New Hampshire's Joey Polewarczyk, Jr. and two-time Lee winner and 8-time ACT Champion, Brian Hoar have all entered the opening event. The ACT season opens at Lee NH with a full practice on Saturday, April 12, and a 150-lap feature event on Sunday, April 13, 2014. Qualifying will begin at 1:15 on Sunday.
