1st 2015 DIRTcar NE Series win for point leader DRUMMONDVILLE, QC – July 20, 2015 – Mathieu Desjardins of Sorel-Tracy, Quebec defended his home turf and collected his first win on the DIRTcar Sportsman tour at Autodrome Drummond to extend his points lead. ''The car was great and it is really special to finally win a DIRTcar tour race at home'' stated Desjardins in the winner circle. ''A win, a second and third, it is a great way to start and defend my title.'' Martin Pelletier grabbed the early lead with Desjardins taking second. Jessica Power moved quickly into third, two laps into the 50-lap event. Forty-two DIRTcar NE Sportsman teams were in the pits competing for 30 spots on the starting grid. Both Pelletier and Desjardins quickly got away from the rest of the field and ran side by side for several laps, swapping the lead before Desjardins got the edge and was able to distance himself from Pelletier by the 20-lap mark. At the halfway point, Desjardins, Pelletier, Power, Martin Lessard and Corey Wheeler comprised the front five. A caution brought the field together on that same lap. Desjardins kept the top spot on the restart as Power used the inside lane to pass Pelletier. Wheeler ran in fourth as Louie Jackson joined the lead pack. The race went to red conditions on lap 30 as an accident blocked turn four. After the race went back to green, Jackson made his way up to second taking advantage of two consecutive yellow flags. Desjardins ran the low line as Jackson, Power, Wheeler and Etienne Cournoyer held the top five spots. Desjardins led the final laps to capture his first DIRTcar Sportsman feature of the season in front of Jackson and Power. The DIRTcar Sportsman Series drivers will not have any time to rest has they are back in action Tuesday, July 21 at Autodrome Granby for another 50-lap event.
