Jared Marks; Tony Marks Racing Ready To Rock At Salem Speedway

SALEM, Indiana (September 14, 2011) - - Jared Marks has impressed in the handful of races that he has competed in the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards in 2011. From Toledo Speedway to Winchester Speedway and the series’ long-awaited return to Lucas Oil Raceway, Marks will now take on his greatest short track challenge when his Tony Marks Racing (TMR) team tackles Saturday night’s Kentuckiana Ford Dealers ARCA Fall Classic by Federated Car Care at Salem (Ind.) Speedway.

 

Marks is focused and determined to capture his first top-10 finish of the season Saturday night behind the wheel of the No. 12 Mad Croc Energy / Dodge Motorsports Dodge Charger for the 17th race of the season. Marks, the son of car owner Tony Marks will make his long-awaited inaugural ARCA debut at the intimidating half-mile oval.

 

The team participated in the spring event, the third race on the 2011 calendar with Sorel, Quebec’s Maryeve Dufault at the controls. After starting 19th, Dufault finished 13th. From Salem, the team has showed an impressive program on the smaller tracks. To give the team that extra credibility and focus, the team recently took the Napoleon, Ohio native to the Southern Indiana track for a private test session.

 

“I think the test went pretty good,” said Marks, a veteran Late Model driver. “It’s a tough track. I was told by everyone it’s intimidating at first and that’s not far from the truth. We worked on setup for most of the day. The biggest challenge we’ll have when we go back will be is that the race will be run under the lights, so a lot of aspects could change between now and then.”

 

The 17-year old will make his sixth career ARCA Racing Series start on Saturday night and looks to improve on his recent finish at Madison International Speedway where he tackled ARCA’s return to the Wisconsin short track after nearly 40 years to a lead-lap 12th place finish, his fourth top-13 finish of 2011. 

 

“Other than Lucas Oil Raceway, we’ve run good this year,” he offered. “I really think if we would not have been shoved into the wreck on that restart (At Lucas Oil Raceway), we would have been in good shape. But, that was then and this is now. We need to turn that good into great and I think a top-10 finish on Saturday night would be a step in the right direction.”

 

He added, “I witnessed the action at Salem for myself in the spring and it looked intense. There’s little to no room for error, which means it’s extremely important for us to qualify our No. 12 Mad Croc Energy / Dodge Motorsports Dodge Charger as close to the front as possible. From there, we can focus on race strategy and hope we can keep the fenders on and produce the team’s third top-10 finish of 2011.”

 

Recently making the move to “Race City USA” otherwise known as Mooresville, North Carolina this summer to be within the quarters of his father’s race team, Marks says the new surroundings have paid off in more ways than one.

 

“I enjoy going to the shop every day,” he said. “I get along great with the guys. We work hard but we still get the job done. On the other side, it’s gratifying to really see my dad’s dream come true. I know he has a long term interest in the industry and I’m happy to be just a small fraction of it.

 

Working with Ryan (Chism, crew chief) on a daily basis has strengthened our relationship both on and off the track. He’s smart and he now knows what I want in the racecar. Saturday night’s race is just another race for us to build upon for 2012.”

 

For Ohio entrepreneur and car owner Tony Marks, seeing his team grow this season has been the goal all along – but he is also isn’t shy to step up and face where his organization can enhance their efforts. 

 

“We knew heading into Daytona back in February that we were going to have some road bumps,” the former racer explained. “I’m pleased with the direction our team is heading right now – but I know there is more to be done to make us even better. We’re going to focus on these next three races and run hard and fight for some strong finishes. Then we’ll take the off-season and regroup and prepare for a sturdy 2012. I have the up most faith that Jared is going to give nothing less than 100 percent behind the wheel on Saturday night. If we play it smart, we should go home with a good finish.”

 

The Kentuckiana Ford Dealers ARCA Fall Classic by Federated Car Care (200 laps / 111 miles) is the 17th of 19 events on the 2011 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards schedule. The 87th ARCA event held at Salem (Ind.) Speedway is a one-day show. Practice begins Saturday, September 17 with an hour and a half practice session planned from 1:05 p.m. - 2:35 p.m. Menards Pole by Ansell qualifying is slated to begin at 4:00 p.m. The field will take the green flag later in the evening at approximately 7:15 p.m. The event will not be televised but race coverage including live timing and scoring throughout the 1,329th race for the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards since it was formed in 1953 will be available through the ARCA Racing Network (ARN) online at arcaracing.com presented by ARCANation.com. Jared Marks Gets Down To Business At Madison; Rallies Top-15 Run

“Tony Marks Racing Development Driver Keeping Presence Alive”

 

OREGON, Wisconsin (August 29, 2011) - - After forging the most recent ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards event at the Illinois State Fairgrounds (Springfield) on August 21st, the team returned to action in the series’ return to Madison International Speedway (MIS) for the running of the Herr’s Live Life With Flavor! 200

 

With Tony Marks Racing (TMR) development driver Jared Marks taking the temporary reins of the No. 12 Mad Croc Energy / Dodge Motorsports Dodge Charger for the 15th race of the season, the Napoleon, Ohio native wasn’t really sure what to expect when arrived at the half-mile oval. Unable to make the trip to Wisconsin to test at MIS, the TMR team did however partake in a private test at a North Carolina to shake down their automobile.

 

Feeling confident about the setup underneath him, Marks entered the open practice session on Friday afternoon with optimism. During the hour and a half practice session, the 17-year old under the direction of crew chief Ryan Chism was able to muster a respectable 15th place in the overall rundown. Marks informed his crew chief that his No. 12 Mad Croc Energy / Dodge Motorsports Dodge Charger was tight throughout the race track.

 

After making some adjustments to their automobile before qualifying, the team turned their faith over to their rookie to deliver a strong lap that would keep them out of the “eye of the storm.” During his two laps of time trials, Marks maneuvered a fast lap of 18.677 seconds or 96.375 miles per hour. The effort was a solid pick-up by the avid Late Model racer from practice just a few hours prior.

 

Ironically, after all said and done, Marks would line up 12th in his No. 12 Mad Croc Energy / Dodge Motorsports Dodge Charger – maybe giving an early sign that the team was going to have a good night.

 

With the engines fired and the green flag waiving shortly after 8:30 p.m., it didn’t take long for the action to get fierce. Struggling with the handling of his automobile during the first couple laps, he slipped back to 16th by lap four and remained there when the yellow flag waived on lap six.

 

Restarting safely in the top-20, Marks would continue to hold steady on the track until another yellow caution waived on lap 17 where Chism opted to bring his driver to pit road and make some air pressure adjustment. Nine laps later, racing resumed with Marks settling in 18th.  The High School student was able to make up a few spots on the track until the yellow flag waived on lap 30 which offered another opportunity for Chism to bring his protégé to pit road for four tires, a wedge adjustment and fuel.

 

When racing resumed, Marks placed 22nd but quickly moved into the 20th position four laps later. Continuing to inch up the ladder, Marks had moved up into the 12th position before an incident with the No. 23 and the No. 12 would ultimately force the field to come to a freeze.

 

With some of his competitors opting to duck down on pit road, Marks would restart in the 10th position on lap 68 but gave way to a hungry pack of competitors on fresher rubber to hunker in 15th by lap 75.

 

Able to hustle his way up to 13th by lap 82 where he settled in until the caution waived on lap 87. Under the slower pace, Marks informed his team that his car was good.

 

With much of the field pitting ahead of him, Marks would jump to third for a lap 92 restart. Despite having older tires than his competitors, the racer wasn’t willing to go down without a fight as tight racing saw Marks keep his car inside the top-five before eventually slipping back to eighth by lap 98.

 

Just after the halfway mark, Marks found himself in the 13th position waiting for the yellow to waive again so a trip to pit road could be executed. Despite a caution waiving on lap 108, Chism kept his driver out there informing his pilot he needed to stay out on the track a little longer before he could bring him back to pit road. The driver acknowledged but informed him that the No. 12 Mad Croc Energy / Dodge Motorsports Dodge Charger was loose off.

 

Hovering comfortably in the top-15 until a yellow waived on lap 30, Chism thought this was the perfect time to bring the No. 12 Mad Croc Energy / Dodge Motorsports Dodge Charger to pit road for four scuff tires and fuel.

 

Restarting in 15th, the used rubber proved to be better than what he had on before which showed with his lap times and the attack on his competitors. Inside the final 50 circuits, Marks was able to work his to seventh only to be trapped on the race track by the No. 63 which was a lapped car easily opened the door and allowed seven competitors to overtake him.

 

Extremely frustrated that he fell back to 14th, Marks wasn’t willing to give up. After duking it out with Ron Cox (No. 28) and Grant Enfinger (No. 36) over the course of the final 30 laps, Marks was able to take the checkered flag in 12th. It was Marks’ fourth top-13 place finish in five races this season.

 

“Our No. 12 Mad Croc Energy / Dodge Motorsports Dodge Charger was pretty good for most of the night. The car wasn’t taking to the track earlier, but we kept working on it all throughout the night and we were able to find ourselves in the top-10,” explained Marks.  “Milka (Duno) happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time and it cost us dearly. From there we didn’t have a lot of time to recover but we did finish 12th, so I guess I can’t complain about that too much. I still have a couple chances to bring home a top-10 finish for Tony Marks Racing, so I hope I can do that before seasons end.”

 

For owner and father Marks, he was incredibly pleased with the effort shown by the entire team this weekend. “We came to a completely new track to us and didn’t really know what to expect and we were competitive. We didn’t have the brakes go our way when we needed them to, but Jared and all the guys on pit road did their job and we were able to bring the car home in 12th. We’ll take that. I not only want to thank my guys, but everyone else who makes this team possible.”

 

Next up for the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards is the second and final installment on the dirt when the sanctioning body makes their annual trip to the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds for the running of the Southern Illinois 100 presented by Federated Auto Parts on Labor Day, Monday, September 5.

 

Tony Marks Racing plans to return to competition next month when the ARCA Racing Series takes on brutal Salem (Ind.) Speedway for the next to last short track race of the season, The Kentuckiana Ford Dealers ARCA Fall Classic by Federated Car Care. Earlier this season, Maryeve Dufault reeled in a respectable 13th place finish after starting 19th.

Tony Marks Racing Forgoes ARCA Event At Illinois State Fairgrounds

SPRINGFIELD, Illinois (August 16, 2011) - - Officials from Tony Marks Racing (TMR) announced today that the team is forgoing its plans to compete in Sunday’s Allen Crowe 100 at the Illinois State Fairgrounds (Springfield) in order to allow its driver Maryeve Dufault to concentrate on her NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) debut this weekend in Montreal.

 

The decision was a hard one for the Mooresville, North Carolina-based team as the freshman organization has recently surged into the ARCA spotlight with speed and solid finishes from primary driver Maryeve Dufault, part-time development driver Jared Marks and reining ARCA champion Patrick Sheltra. However, logistically the decision to skip the 14th race of the season offers a sense of relief for all parties involved.

 

“Of course, this was not an easy decision,” said car owner Tony Marks. “But, we’re looking at the best interest of the team. While we’re not running for points in the ARCA Racing Series right now, skipping Springfield allows Maryeve to fully concentrate on her efforts for her inaugural NASCAR Nationwide Series debut in her home Country.

 

We’ve spoken with all of our marketing partners and the team in great length about the decision and everyone has stood by it 100 percent. Anything could happen as far as weather, travel delays, etc., so it was just a smart decision for us to do this.”

 

Currently, the TMR team is strategically working on a plan that will satisfy ARCA Racing Series officials for the team’s No. 12 entry to be used by another competitor in order to keep the team’s current owner points active and in a competitive position.

 

Marks concluded by saying, “On behalf of the entire TMR team and our marketing partners, we are wishing Maryeve the best this weekend at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. She is grabbing a lot of attention for all the right reasons, so we will all be glued to the race and cheering her on in the Napa Auto Parts 200 presented by Dodge!”

 

Dufault will drive for MacDonald Motorsports, a longtime competitor in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) and NASCAR Nationwide Series. The team’s current position in the NNS car owner standings will guarantee her a starting berth in the No. 81 Quebec Dodge Dealers Dodge Challenger R/T on Saturday afternoon.

 

TMR is expected to return to the ARCA Racing Series scene in the 15th race of the season for the inaugural running of the Herr’s Live Life With Flavor 200 at Madison International Speedway on Friday, August 26.

 

The Allen Crowe 100 (100 laps / 100 miles) is the 14th of 19 events on the 2011 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards schedule. The 29th ARCA event held at the Illinois State Fairgrounds is a one-day show. Practice begins Sunday, August 21 with a one hour practice session planned from 9:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. Menards Pole by Ansell qualifying is slated to begin at 11:00 a.m. The field will take the green flag Sunday afternoon shortly after 1:00 p.m. The event will not be televised but race coverage including live timing and scoring throughout the 1,326th race for the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards since it was formed in 1953 will be available through the ARCA Racing Network (ARN) online at arcaracing.com presented by ARCANation.com.  All times are local.

Maryeve Dufault; Tony Marks Racing Solid In Pocono Debut

LONG POND, Pennsylvania (June 13, 2011) - - ARCA Racing Series Rookie of the Year candidate Maryeve Dufault had an impressive showing in her Pocono (Pa.) Raceway debut continuing her Tony Marks Racing (TMR) team’s run of consistent finishes in the Pocono ARCA 200.

 

Never have seeing the defying 2.5-mile triangle before practice on Friday morning, fellow Dodge teammate and NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Kurt Busch offered the Sorel, Quebec native a private tour around the “Tricky Triangle.” Undoubtedly, the advice paid off.

 

In practice, Dufault in her No. 12 VR-12 / Dodge Motorsports Dodge Charger mounted the 17th fastest practice lap. Throughout practice, she showed massive improvement which climbed the freshman team through the running order.

 

The TMR team led by Darren Wolfe and Ryan Chism elected to make minor changes to her No. 12 VR-12 / Dodge Motorsports Dodge Charger hoping to give her a little more speed in Menards Pole by Ansell qualifying. In time trials, Dufault found more speed and negotiated a 15th place qualifying position, a career best in seven races.

 

The strategy for Dufault and her TMR team was to learn and finish the race.

 

Through the race’s first 15 circuits, the No. 12 VR-12 / Dodge Motorsports Dodge Charger maintained a spot in the top-15. With the leaders on a torrid pace, Dufault would lose a lap under green but would fight off her other challengers for the Aaron’s Lucky Dog. The caution flag waived on lap 17, with Dufault rightfully earning her lap back.

 

A solid pit stop by the TMR team would return the former NASCAR Canadian Tire Series competitor into the top-15. With light rain falling and fog present though, the caution period extended over the next 12 laps, and initially, ARCA officials decided to drop the green flag on lap 32. After restarts to begin laps 32 and 33 were aborted, officials instructed drivers to drive down pit road to close lap 35 where the red flag would be issued as everyone waited for the fog to lift. 

 

A short time later, the cars would be re-fired and moved from pit road. The green flag would fly on lap 38 with Dufault on the move. Making work of her challengers, Dufault would move into the 13th position when the caution flag would waive on lap 50. The team followed the leaders and made the trip to pit road for four tires and fuel. Dufault called for no adjustments as she was very comfortable with her race car.

 

Restarting the event on lap 57 in the 12th position, Dufault would get yet another lap under her belts before a caution flag waived two laps later for again dense fog around the facility. Red flag conditions would again adorn the field but ultimately the fog would force ARCA officials to consider the race complete on lap 59 with Dufault scored in the 12th position.

 

“It was a very good day for Tony Marks Racing, VR-12 and Dodge,” said Dufault, who notched her fourth top-15 finish in seven races. “I learned a lot this weekend that will help us when we come back in August. Tony (Marks, owner) did a great job spotting and the team was strong in the pits. I’m happy with a 12th in my first Pocono start. Hopefully we can keep these solid finishes going.”

 

As for Marks, who played a double-duty role at Pocono (Pa.) Raceway, he was exceptionally pleased with the outcome. “It was nice to see the progress of Maryeve from start to finish this weekend,” he said. “Darren, Ryan and the whole TMR team did a great job giving her a competitive car that she was able to maneuver through a very difficult track in some uncharacteristic conditions.”

 

With her finish on Saturday, Dufault remains 10th in the ARCA Racing Series championship standings after seven races.

 

Next up for the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards is round eight of nine on the 2011 schedule. The RainEater Wiper Blades 200 from the two-mile oval of Michigan International Speedway is set for Friday, June 17th at 5:00 p.m. Eastern live on SPEED. Dufault will make her inaugural debut at the track nestled in the “Irish Hills.”

TMR PR - Jared Marks Hopes For Hopping Performance At Toledo Speedway

TOLEDO, Ohio (April 21, 2011) - - It’s only fitting with the VR-12 / Easter Bunny 100 presented by Jegs.com set for this Saturday night at Toledo Speedway that rising star Jared Marks is looking for a hopping performance when the JEGS / CRA All-Stars Tour takes the green flag in their season opener at the historic half-mile oval.

 

After strapping in his No. 5 VR-12 / Dodge Motorsports / Victory Water Dodge Charger early in the season at New Smyrna (Fla.) Speedway, the youngster has shifted his attention towards school. Now, with his sophomore season dwindling down, Marks can slowly begin to trade his school books in for steering wheels.

 

The Tony Marks Racing (TMR) development driver is not only looking for a satisfying performance in an event that is supported by his sponsor, VR-12, but the 16-year old is looking to find his niche at a track that he can consider his hometown place.

 

“It’s an important weekend for us,” said Marks, who will return to Toledo Speedway on May 15 to compete in the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards race. “I think our No. 5 VR-12 / Dodge Motorsports / Victory Water Dodge Charger will be fast. No doubt that the race will go by quick, so I don’t have a lot of time to waste. But, to have a shot to win, you have to be around in the end. So, hopefully we’ll keep our fenders clean and make our mark when it counts.”

 

He continued, “I appreciate VR-12 stepping up their commitments in racing and sponsoring the race Saturday night. It’s an honor to carry their colors and I hope we can thank them a little more with a strong finish.”

 

The avid late model competitor also explained how he will utilize this weekend’s race as a test session as well.

 

“The more laps I can gain at Toledo, it will only help me with the ARCA car next month,” he explained. “Our goal and focus is to go out there this weekend and win, but it’s also our intentions to learn some stuff that could aid us on the ARCA side in a couple of weeks. Toledo is a tough track; it’s no cookie-cutter for sure. The more laps the merrier as far as I’m concerned.”

About Tony Marks Racing (TMR):

Maryeve Dufault; Tony Marks Racing Qualify Career-Best Third At Talladega

“Rookie Team; Driver Continue To Show Strength At Superspeedway”

 

TALLADEGA, Ala. (April 14, 2011) - - Maryeve Dufault qualified a career-best third in only her second ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards attempt at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway Thursday afternoon lining up her No. 12 VR-12 / Dodge Motorsports / Victory Water Dodge Charger on the inside of row number two for tomorrow’s 3 Amigos 250.

 

 

Dufault, the Sorel, Quebec native has been very impressive in her Talladega debut. Her rookie Tony Marks Racing (TMR) team showed early signs of strength in pre-race testing last month before rocketing herself to third on the practice charts earlier today.

 

 

For a while, Dufault’s lap of 52.204 seconds at 183.434 miles per hour set the rookie on the outside of row number one before youngest Kyle Fowler knocked the Redondo Beach, California native down to third overall.

 

In her first career ARCA Racing Series start at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway in February, Dufault qualified 24th.

 

“Wow, this is great,” Dufault said with a huge smile. “I cannot thank VR-12, Dodge, Victory Water, Tony Marks and Tony Marks Racing for this great opportunity and with a really fast race car. I know we were going for the pole, but I’ll take third and we’ll look forward to tomorrow’s race.”

 

With her superb qualifying effort, Dufault picked up five crucial championship points towards the coveted ARCA Racing Series championship title which resumes tomorrow after nearly a two month sabbatical. 

 

“Points are good,” she added. “Our goal for tomorrow is to stay up front and not make any mistakes. I’ll have Mike (Calinoff) up spotting for me tomorrow and with his experience, I know I’ll have a shot to be in contention for a good finish if not a win for our sponsors and everyone at Tony Marks Racing.”

 

Tony Marks, a successful entrepreneur from Ohio has been very pleased with the development and progression of his young race team and was rightfully thrilled with today’s results. “Maryeve and the entire TMR team did a fabulous job,” he said. “We came here and showed the field that we have a great race car and I feel that Maryeve can take VR-12, Dodge, Victory Water and all who support us to victory lane. It’s been a great day so far, hopefully it will keep going into tomorrow!”

 

A short happy hour final practice session has been etched in for competitors tomorrow but the TMR has not fully decided if they will participate in the run.

 

The 3 Amigos 250 (94 laps / 250 miles) is the second of 19 events on the 2011 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards schedule. The 49th ever ARCA race at Talladega Superspeedway is a two-day show. Menards pole qualifying presented by Ansell is set for later today slated to begin at 5:05 p.m. Coverage of time trials is available online through the ARCA Racing Network (ARN) online at arcaracing.com in collaboration with Alabama’s local WTDR Thunder 92.7 FM. A 45-minute final practice has been etched in on Friday, April 15 from 10:00 a.m. – 10:55 a.m. The event will take the green flag that afternoon shortly after 4:00 p.m. The race will be televised live on SPEED with additional live broadcasting available through the ARCA Racing Network (ARN) online at arcaracing.com in collaboration with Alabama’s local WTDR Thunder 92.7 FM. As the first race team to “Drive Against Hunger” through their partnership with Forgotten Harvest, TMR plans to continue their alliance with Forgotten Harvest and once again “Drive Against Hunger” during the 2011 season.

TMR PR: Maryeve Dufault Solid In 'Dega Practice; Third Fastest Overall


“No. 12 VR 12 / Dodge Motorsports Dodge Charger Quickest Charger At Talladega”

 

TALLADEGA, Ala. (April 14, 2011) - - Maryeve Dufault driver of the No. 12 VR-12 / Dodge Motorsports Dodge Charger posted an impressive third fastest time overall during the ARCA Racing Series three hour practice session leading up to tomorrow’s 3 Amigos 250 at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway.

 

Dufault, the ARCA Racing Series Rookie of the Year candidate for Tony Marks Racing (TMR) led the session early at the 2.66-mile superspeedway before eventually falling to the third fastest time overall. She turned 23 laps overall with her fastest lap being a 51.969 seconds or 184.264 miles per hour.

 

“I’m real excited,” said Dufault, who will make her second career ARCA Racing Series start Friday afternoon. “The entire Tony Marks Racing team have given me a great VR 12 / Dodge Motorsports Dodge Charger for Talladega. I’m anxious for qualifying later today and hopefully we can have a good race tomorrow and learn a lot.”

 

She added, “even though this is my first trip to Talladega, I really enjoy the track. VR-12, Dodge and all of our other sponsors deserve some time to be in the spotlight, so hopefully our strong start will continue.”

 

With qualifying set for later today, Dufault remained optimistic about a pole-contending run but felt their VR 12 / Dodge Motorsports hot rod would be starting near the front. “I’d like to hope that we have a shot at the pole, but I would be happy if we end up somewhere in the top-five. We just have to remain focused the rest of the day and hope for the best.”

TMR PR - Jared Marks Juggling School To Follow Racing Dreams

"Kicking Off 2011 Racing With Busy Schedule At New Smyrna"

 

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Florida (February 10, 2011) - - Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of this week, Jared Marks found himself nose deep in the pressure of keeping a strong sophomore academic record alive at Napoleon High School. But starting Thursday and for nine additional nights, Marks will shift his focus to his passion of racing at New Smyrna (Fla.) Speedway for the 45th Annual World Series in the Super Late Model (SLM) and Crate Late Model (CLM) divisions respectively.

 

 

Though never having the opportunity to actual race at New Smyrna (Fla.) Speedway, Marks care of his Tony Marks Racing (TMR) team spent their off-season profusely getting the 16-year old development driver accustomed to the tricky short track's demeanor. In addition to his Late Model, Marks even tested the heavier 3,400-pound ARCA stock car, gathering a feel for the heavier machine as he'll take to the diverse tour later this season.

 

When the first green flag flies on Friday night, February 11th, Marks in his No. 5 Tony Marks Racing Dodge Charger looks for consistency and comfort to set the tone for the short track version of Speedweeks 2011 with crew chief Jamie Roulo on top of the box, calling the shots.

 

"Testing went well despite the rain we faced," offered Marks, a second-generation racer. "We gained a lot of knowledge during the test that I think will be useful for all nine days of competition."

 

The youngster also commented on working alongside his newest friend, Roulo. "I'm looking forward to having Jamie on our side at New Smyrna. I'm counting on him to critique me all the way around. I want to know when I'm doing something right and I definitely want to know when I'm doing something wrong. His help will only make me a better driver."

 

It's a big week for the Marks family. While Jared Marks is hoping to nestle into a comfortable presence at New Smyrna (Fla.) Speedway, his father Tony Marks will be eyeing a successful season opener in the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway, approximately 15 miles southwest of New Smyrna with his TMR teammate Maryeve Dufault.

 

"I'm really proud of everything my dad has accomplished in such a short time with TMR," continued the younger Marks, who himself tested competitively in an ARCA car at the 2.5-mile monster superspeedway last month. "He is a very busy guy, but he has really done a lot to not only support my racing career but help bring other drivers racing dreams come true. I hope it's going to be a good couple weeks for TMR."

 

Once the ARCA Racing Series season-opener is in the books, Jared Marks will have the solo support of his father at his side striving to make him proud by accomplishing his own personal goal.

 

"My goal is to survive all nine nights," Marked offered. "I want to look at the whole nine nights as one big race in both divisions. If we can finish all the races, than I will be extremely satisfied with our effort. Without a doubt, we are capable of winning and that's what I want to do for everyone at TMR, but I'm also trying to be realistic and not set the goals too high for myself. Focus is my determination and finishing will be my strength onto the next one (race)."

 

To further aid him in his trial and tribulations at New Smyrna, Jarit Johnson, brother of five-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Jimmie Johnson and an avid race car driver himself will be on-hand to critique and steer Marks in the right direction.

 

"Jarit is just like one of us," Marks commented. "He's a great guy who wants to race. I am very thankful to him for caring so much about my racing career and program. He's definitely taught me some things over the last week or two and I know I will only continue to learn more as I converse with him."

 

For Johnson, himself a competitive racer, his early intuition of Marks reminds him a lot of himself.

 

"Jared is a good kid," said Johnson, who also hails starts in the NASCAR Nationwide Series and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. "I'm all about helping. Jared does a good job listening and asking questions and that is one of the necessities of being an up and coming driver. It should be a fun week at New Smyrna." 

 

In addition to running a limited Late Model schedule this year across the Country, the Napoleon, Ohio native will also compete in a second part-time ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards entry for Tony Marks Racing tentatively set to liftoff from Salem (Ind.) Speedway on May 1, 2011.
