L’EMPORTE AU CUMULATIF DES DEUX FINALES

 

Après avoir accepté le départ de la 13e position, Brian Hoar, le multiple champion de l’American-Canadian Tour et détenteur du plus grand nombre de victoires dans ce championnat américain, a remporté la deuxième et dernière manche de cette courte visite à la piste New Smyrna en Floride. Le vainqueur qui a pris la commande lors de la dernière de sept relances au 72e tour, a eu le meilleur devant son compatriote Mark Lamberton et l’Ontarien, Jontahan Urlin.

 

Vainqueur la veille, Joey Polewarczyk, en se classant cinquième a mérité les grands honneurs au combiné devant Hoar, Lamberton, Wayne Helliwell Jr. et Patrick Laperle.

 

Le pilote de St-Denis-sur-Richelieu, même si durant les essais libres avait été le plus rapide, n’a pas été en mesure de rivaliser avec les premiers lors de cette course. Après s’être fait dépasser par Polewarczyk, Patrick, malgré une voiture survireuse, a été en mesure de remonter parmi les cinq premiers avant de visiter son puits pour des ajustements au 67e passage. De retour en piste en 18e place, il a été le neuvième à rallier la ligne d’arrivée.

 

Patrick Hamel de Ste-Croix-de-Lotbinière a été le meilleur des six pilotes québécois avec une sixième position. Il a roulé parmi les cinq premiers durant la majeure partie de la confrontation tandis que pour une deuxième fois d’affilée, Karl Allard, le champion de la série ACT-Castrol, s’est classé huitième.

 

Dixième, la veille, Donald Theetge a pris la 12e place.

 

Dérapage

Après avoir attiré l’attention la veille avec une solide troisième place, les choses ont été un peu plus difficiles pour le jeune Alex Labbé, la recrue de la série ACT-Castrol. Seizième au départ, Labbé a effectué une remontée parmi les dix premiers avant d’être victime d’un tête-à-queue au 67e tour. Lors de sa visite aux puits, il a perdu un tour pour finalement terminer la soirée en 26e place. Pour sa part, le vétéran Yvon Bédard a connu beaucoup d’ennuis. Avec quelques visites à son puits, il a perdu trois tours pour terminer 23e.

 Cette finale qui a été disputée en 56,12 minutes, a été ponctuée de sept ralentissements. Six pilotes différents ont détenu le poste de commande dont Jonathan Urlin en deux occasions.

 

Notes…

Après l’épreuve de dimanche soir, Eddie MacDonald est demeuré dans les puis pour aider son équipe à changer le moteur de sa Chevrolet Impala. Aujourd’hui (lundi), lors des essais libres, MacDonald a également connu de piètres résultats, ne parvenant pas à inscrire un temps parmi les dix premiers.

En matinée, Kevin Roberge de Lévis a été exclu de la finale de lundi soir en raison de son absence à la rencontre des pilotes  en matinée.

Après avoir lourdement endommagé sa Ford Fusion, Joey Laquerre a du se contenter de tenir le rôle de spectateur lors de cette deuxième manche.

Patrick Laperle a dominé deux des trois séances d’essais libres alors que l’autre est allée à Brian Hoar. Lors de la médiane, Alex Labbé s’est distingué en obtenant un chrono à cinq millièmes de Laperle.

ACT RESULTS : Joey Polewarczyk, Jr. Claims Goodyear Speedweeks Cup Title

Brian Hoar Wins Second 100 Lap Event

New Smyrna, FL – Hudson, New Hampshire’s Joey Polewarczyk, Jr. worked his way through heavy traffic from his 18th starting position to finish 5th in the second round of the Goodyear Speedweeks Cup at New Smyrna Speedway in New Smyrna, Florida on Monday, February 14. The fifth place effort along with his win in Sunday’s 100 lapper earned him the low score of six points, just edging out seven-time ACT Late Model Tour Champion Brian Hoar who earned seven points in the Goodyear Speedweeks Cup standings.

 

Hoar of Williston, Vermont took the win in Monday night’s feature after starting 13th. Mark Lamberton of Mooers Forks, New York used a second place effort to claim third in the overall standings. In the final 100 lapper Jonathan Urlin of London, Ontario, Lee USA Speedway Champion Wayne Helliwell, Jr. of Dover, New Hampshire, and Polewarczyk completed the top five. Quebec’s Patrick Hamel, Massachusetts Eddie MacDonald, Quebecers Karl Allard and Patrick Laperle and Florida’s Pete Potvin rounded out the top ten.

The early stages of the event saw Goodyear Speedweeks Cup Standing leaders Polewarczyk, Laperle, Quebec’s Alex Labbé, Lamberton and Helliwell battle their way to the front. The outside groove appeared to be the fast lane as they worked their way to the front. Labbé fell out of contention after bouncing off the wall about midway through the event and lost a lap on pit road. Laperle made a pit stop for an adjustment while running in the top ten after the halfway mark and couldn’t make it back to the front.

In the overall Goodyear Speedweeks Cup standings, Polewarczyk and Hoar were followed by Lamberton, Helliwell and Laperle in the top five. Urlin, MacDonald, Allard, Hamel, and Quebec’s Donald Theetge completed the top ten.

Monday’s event was completed in 56 minutes and 12 seconds with seven total cautions. The lead was swapped seven times among six drivers.

The American Canadian Tour’s first trip to the 2011 Goodyear Speedweeks Cup at New Smyrna Speedway in New Smyrna, Florida has come to a close with Monday’s event. The ACT stars will have several months off before their seasons begin. The ACT Late Model Tour’s season opener will be Sunday, April 17 at Lee USA Speedway in Lee, New Hampshire, while the Série Castrol Edge will kick off its season on Saturday, May 21 at Autodrome St-Eustache in St-Eustache, Quebec.

TMR PR: Maryeve Dufault And Tony Marks Racing ARCA Debut Includes Includes Plenty Firsts

At Daytona Includes a List of Many "Firsts"

DAYTONA BEACH, FLORIDA (February 15, 2011) – Maryeve Dufault and Tony Marks Racing (TMR) made their first ever ARCA series debut this weekend in the Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200 at the "World Center of Racing" in Daytona Beach, Florida.

 

The weekend started out solid for Dufault and her TMR No. 12 VR-12 Dodge team, by qualifying a respectable 24th position on the grid for the Saturday season opener at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway ahead of nine-time series champion, Frank Kimmel.

"There were a lot of pressures coming into this race, not having points, and my first ARCA stock car event, but TMR put together a great car, and we made it into the race", said Dufault.  "I'm just very happy to be a part of this organization and the opportunity to race at Daytona."

Saturday, before the 200 mile event, TMR unveiled a season long sponsorship commitment from VR-12 Cooling Systems.  The two combined, along with driver Dufault, made quite a stir amongst fans, the media, and in the ARCA garage at Daytona this past weekend and they assuredly will carry that momentum with them all season long.  

During the main event for Saturday, Dufault piloted the No. 12 VR-12 Dodge Charger in the first laps up thru the field moving into the 17th slot. The second caution of the 80 lap event came out and Dufault came in for first pit stop of the race and got hung up on pit road trying to avoid another teams' mishap.  This cost the TMR No. 12 VR-12 Dodge team a few spots on the grid, but Dufault stayed focused in the draft and made every move with precision.

About half way thru, veteran NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) spotter, Mike Calinoff came across the radio to compliment Dufault.

"I just want to say you are doing a great job", said an encouraged Calinoff. "You're doing what you need to do by just there staying in line.  We're just going to stay smart, get some laps and finish the race."

Dufault was able to turn a few more laps at full speed before an on track mêlée caught up to her just 16 laps from the finish. Another driver overreacted to the on track action and drove his machine down into the right side of the No. 12 VR-12 Dodge Charger.

Upon exiting the litter of race cars in turns three and four, Dufault brought her Tony Marks-owned entry to pit road where damage from the exhaust and the front-end alignment forced the No. 12 to the garage and ultimately done for the afternoon.

After climbing out of the car, a very disappointed Dufault had some comments about her first encounter with "the big one".

"I thought I had missed it all until I got hit", said a disappointed Dufault.  "Then I was looking and there were cars going everywhere. I tried to get to the grass but it all happened so fast. It stinks."

After reflecting on the day's events and her first ARCA series Daytona superspeedway debut, Dufault had some very positive remarks to describe her experience.

"Today was a great start for the TMR VR-12 Dodge Charger team.  They did a really great job putting the car together.  I was having a blast out there; so much fun", said Dufault.  "I couldn't be more thankful for having done all those laps out there.  It was unfortunate about the accident but I tried to do my best.  I got a lot of experience and we'll just carry it on to Talladega", said a positive Dufault. 

She continued to reflect about her on track involvement at Daytona.

"It was fast out there with all those cars and with the movement of the car", explained Dufault.  "I thought it was really exciting to draft and of course the pit road situation was a first for me, a lot of smoke, a lot of numbers, it was a little overwhelming, but we got it right the second time."

A very humble Dufault graded her performance on a scale from one to 10 as a "seven."  

"A seven maybe", she said laughing.  "I don't know, a 10 maybe, but I have so much to learn I can't give myself a 10, that would be too proud of myself."

The TMR No. 12 VR-12 Dodge Charger finished 28th out of a 43 car field Saturday at the drop of the checkered flag for the Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200 at Daytona International Speedway.

During the down time between season superspeedway openers, Dufault and the TMR team will be moving their headquarters from Napoleon, Ohio to Race City USA, Mooresville, North Carolina.

The ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards will take nearly an eight week pause before action resumes at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway on Friday, April 15th, 2011 live on SPEED.

2011-02-13 - NSS - RECAP

New Smyrna Beach, FLA - Joey Polewarczyk de Hudson au New Hampshire sera inscrit dans l’histoire comme le premier gagnant de la Coupe ACT Goodyear Speedweeks Cup.

 

Pole a remporté le premier de deux épreuves de 100 tours disputé à la piste de New Smyrna Speedway dans le cadre de Speedweeks 2011.  Il a été suivi d’une paire de pilote du Québec, Patrick Laperle et Alex Labbé.

New Smyrna Beach, FLA - Joey Polewarczyk from Hudson, NH will go down in history as the first feature winner of the ACT Goodyear Speedweeks Cup in history.

 

Pole won the first of two 100 laps event being ran at New Smyrna Speedway as part of the Speed Weeks 2011 competition.  He was followed across the line by a pair of Quebec drivers, Patrick Laperle and Alex Labbé.

 

28 compétiteurs, provenant du Québec, Ontario, Vermont, New York, Mass, Rhode Island, Maine et le New Hampshire, se sont présentés pour cette première historique.

 

Le président et directeur de course Tom Curley a innové à New Smyrna en mettant en vedette des courses de qualification – la norme à la piste et dans le sud étant de faire des temps chronométré pour déterminer la grille.

 

Patrick Laperle, le double vice-champion de la classe Crate / Late model ici à New Smyrna sera reconnu comme étant le gagnant de la première épreuve de qualification pour les voitures ACT.  Brian Hoar et Jonathan Urlin l’ont suivi.

 

Dans la deuxième course de qualification, Wayne Helliwell a croisé le fil le premier.  Joey Laquerre et Karl Allard le suivait.  Mike Bruno sera reconnu comme le premier pilote à avoir fait un tête-à-queue et causé une neutralisation.

 

Patrick Hamel a remporté la troisième épreuve de qualification devant Mark Lamberton et Pete Yetman.

28 competitors showed up for the historic first time event, hauling from Quebec, Ontario, Vermont, New York, Mass, Rhode Island, Maine and New Hampshire.

 

ACT President and race director Tom Curley innovated at New Smyrna show casing qualifying heats – the tradition at the facility and “down south” is to run time trials to set the field.

 

Patrick Laperle who is a two-time vice Champion in the Crate / Late Models at New Smyrna was the first qualifying race winner.  He won over Brian Hoar and Jonathan Urlin.

 

In the second qualifying race, Wayne Helliwell was the winner.  Joey Laquerre and Karl Allard completed the podium.  Mike Bruno will go down in history as the first spin in competition and drawing a caution.

 

Patrick Hamel won the third race with Mark Lamberton and Pete Yetman finishing behind him.





 

Au moment de disputer la grande finale, 27 voitures se sont présentées sur la grille, puisque le pilote du Vermont Eric Chase a réalisé en se déplaçant sur la fausse grille qu’il avait un roulement à bille (bearing) de roue défectueux.

 

Joey Pole qui a pris le départ de la position de tête a rapidement creusé une avance sur les autres.  Mais cette dernière a été réduite lorsque la première neutralisation a eu lieu au 34e tour pour la voiture immobilisée d’Austin Thériault.

 

C’est cependant exactement ce que Patrick Laperle (deuxième) et Eddie MacDonald, maintenant rapproché sur son pare-choc voulaient.

 

Laperle a pris les commandes de l’épreuve de Pole et a réussi à bâtir une belle avance.  Malheureusement pour lui, un avantage qui disparaîtra au 41e passage quand Joey Laquerre a frappé violement le mur de la 1 forçant une deuxième neutralisation.

 

« Le châssis est bon pour les poubelles.  La section centrale est en forme de diamant » déclara le septagénaire Laquerre.  « C’est une toute nouvelle voiture.  Même pas une course dessus.  Nous ramassons nos choses et quittons pour la maison » ajouta-t-il.

 

Voici ce qu’il nous a répondu quand nous lui avons demandé ce qui s’est passé : « Le 16 [Kevin Roberge] ma dumpé dans le mur ».

When feature time rolled around, only 27 cars rolled onto the grid as Vermont driver Eric Chase was a scratch because of a faulty wheel bearing which was discovered on his way to the staging area.

 

Joey Pole started from the pole position and stretched an early lead  which vanished when the first caution was brought out on lap 34 for Austin Theriault who is stopped on the front stretch.

 

It was exactly what Patrick Laperle (second) and Eddie MacDonald now on his bumper.

 

Laperle took the lead away from Pole and built a nice lead over him.  Unfortunately, it was reduced to nothing when the caution was drawn on lap 41 for Joey Laquerre who hit the wall hard in turn 1.

 

“The frame is totalled.  Center section is bent in a diamond shape” said the elder and disapointed Laquerre.  “This was a brand new car.  Not even a race on it.  We’re packing up and going home” he added.

 

This is what he had to say when asked what happened: “I just got dumped into the wall by the 16 [Kevin Roberge]”.



 

Le champion Castrol 2007 et 2009, Donald Theetge, a regagné les puits sous la neutralisation pour faire des ajustements à la suspension avant gauche.  Il reviendra en piste et terminera 10.

 

Pole et Laperle se sont échangé la tête à plusieurs reprises au cours de la prochaine séquence sous le drapeau vert.  Tandis que MacDonald, Lamberton, Hoar et Bruno se livraient bataille pour les positions 3 à 5.  MacDonald qui devait se battre avec une voiture sans adhérance.

 

« Nous avions une fuite d’huile importante qui graissait le pneu arrière droite.  Nous changeons le moteur dans un garage local cette nuit » nous informa Eddie MacDonald plusieurs heures après la fin de la finale.

 

Au 61e passage Patrick Hamel a perdu la maîtrise de sa voiture au suite d’un contact par l’arrière de son confrère québécois Kevin Roberge.

 

Donald Theetge, the 2007 and 2009 ACT Castrol Champion, visited the pits under caution to make adjustments to the left front suspension to address handling issues.  He would return to competition and finish 10.

 

Pole and Laperle would exchange the lead several times over the next stretch of green flag.  Meanwhile MacDonald, Lamberton, Hoar and Bruno where batteling behind for third thru fifth.  MacDonald in an uncharacteristically ill handling race car was holding up the group.

 

“We had a terrible oil leak that would soak the right rear tire.  We are going to swap the engine over at a local shop” informed us Eddie MacDonald several hours after the feature.

 

On Lap 61 Patrick Hamel was spun onto the front stretch grass area when he was hit by behind by fellow countryman Kevin Roberge.

Quoi que nous avons pas vu ce qui s’est passé, d’après les explications de tous, nous comprenons que Hamel a levé à peine quand il a vu MacDonald être en glissade.  Roberge qui était à le doubler au même moment n’a pu réagir et la emboutit.

 

Quand le group est revenu au vert, Pole a continuer de mener l’épreuve avec Laperle à ses trousses.  Mais le duo avait maintenant un nouveau partenaire de danse dans la personne du jeune, de 17 ans, Alex Labbé qui venait d’avoir le dessus sur MacDonald, Lamberton et Hoar.

 

Tandis que Laperle a réussi à se rapprocher de Pole avec 20 tours à faire, il n’était pas assez fort pour le passer.  « Joey était vraiment fort.  Si un jaune avait sorti, comme j’aurais eu l’extérieur c’est sûr que la fin de la course aurait été différente » déclara Laperle.

While we could not see what happened its now clear Hamel lifted when MacDonald lost momentarily control of his car.  Roberge going to the outside at the time did not lift and connected with Hamel sending him in a spin at the same time.

 

When the group returned to green flag, Pole continued to lead over Laperle.  But the duo now had a new dancing partner when young 17 year old Alex Labbé powered his around MacDonald, Lamberton and Hoar.

 

While Laperle managed to reel in Pole with 20 laps to go he did not have enough to pass him.  “Joey was strong.  Had a caution come out we would have had the outside and the outcome would be different” declared Laperle.



 

“C’étais très enlevant.  Je dois remercier Patrick.  Il m’a offert toute une compétition et très propre. C’est comme si la course était juste entre lui et moi .

 

C’est probablement la course la plus difficile – tant à l’offensive qu’à l’offsensive – que j’ai eu à disputer.  C’est une belle démonstration de la compétitivité de ces voitures.  J’ai vraiment apprécié d’où jétais. » déclara Pole.

 

Si la bataille en piste entre Pole et Laperle valait le prix d’amission, le jeune Labbé, gagnant du prix Inside Track Motorsports News voter’s choice Promising Stock Car driver award a très bien fait avec une troisième place.  En plus il avait eu à changer le moteur après la première pratique et manquer les deux dernière séances de pratique.

 

« Ont ne s’attendait pas à faire aussi bien.  Nous avons pris notre temps et fait une belle remontée. On était pas le plus vite, mais considérant les problèmes de moteurs nous sommes très satisfait. » nous a dit Labbé.

“Man, that was some tough racing. I've got to thank Patrick (Laperle). He raced me so clean, it really seemed like it was just between us.

That was probably the hardest I've ever had to drive -- both on offense and on defense. It just goes to show how good the competition is in these cars. It was pretty cool from my point of view” declared Pole.

 

If the on track competition between Pole and Laperle was worth the price of admission, young 17 year old Alex Labbé, the 2010 Inside track Motorsport Magazine voter’s choice Promising Stock Car award winner, had a strong third place finish after having to go to a backup engine and missing the last two practice sessions.

 

“We didn’t expect such a good finish.  We took our time and did a great comeback from behind.  We weren’t the fastest car out there, but considering our engine issues we are very pleased with the results” said Labbé.

La course a été disputé en 50 minutes, ce qui est assez exceptionnel considérant la taille de la piste (demi-mile) et qu’il y a eu deux neutralisations.

 

Les courses reprennent à New Smyrna Speedway ce soir, lundi 14 février, avec le deuxième 100 tours pour ACT et le retour en piste des Crate / Late Models.

 

La grille de départ du 100 tours sera une inversion des positions à l’arrivé du premier.

 

Martin Latulippe et Kevin Roberge son deuxième dans les points (68) juste derrière Austin Kirkpatrick (70) dans le championnat de 8 épreuves Crate / Late model.

The race was ran in 50 minutes, which is amazing fast considering it is an half-mile track and was slowed by two cautions.

 

Racing from New Smyrna Speedway resumes Monday night with the second 100 lap event by ACT competitors and the Crate / Late Models. 

 

The starting line up for the second 100 laps will be an inversion of the finish of the first 100 laps.

 

Martin Latulippe and Kevin Roberge are second with 68 points to Austin Kirkpatrick’s 70 points in the Crate / Late Model 8 races Championship.
