Autodrome St-Eustache and Autodrome Chaudière Swap Opening Dates

Waterbury, VT – American Canadian Tour (ACT) officials announced today the 2011 Série Castrol Edge season opener on Saturday, May 21 has been changed from Autodrome St-Eustache in St-Eustache, Quebec, to the 1/3 mile Autodrome Chaudière in Vallée-Jonction, Quebec. The 100 lap St-Eustache event has been moved to Saturday, June 4.

 

The two speedways agreed to switch their opening Série Castrol Edge dates last week. It will be the first time since 2007 that the Série Castrol Edge season opener will not be held at the fast ½ mile of Autodrome St-Eustache. Autodrome Chaudière will hold the opener for the first time in Série Castrol Edge history as part of their 20th season celebration. Both tracks have three ACT events scheduled for the 2011 season including the Showdown at Chaudière all-star event in September.

The 2011 Série Castrol Edge season will now kick off at Autodrome Chaudière in Vallée-Jonction, Quebec on Saturday, May 21.

Série Sportsman Québec - compte rendu réunion 2011-03-12

Résumé réunion du 12 mars 2011

 

Plus de 25 équipes de course étaient représentées lors de la dernière réunion avant la saison 2011.M. André Poulin  a souhaité la bienvenue aux équipes présentes.

 

Lors du premier point soulevé, M. Poulin, a salué et remercié les nouveaux représentants des pilotes soit Dave Trevors, Steve McKibbin, George Asselin et Pier-Luc Labbé pour le travail accompli avec la direction de la série lors des trois premières réunions conjointes.

 

La série continuera sa nouvelle opération charme face aux amateurs de stock car du Québec en annonçant la signature d’autographe par minimum 3 pilotes à chaque course de la saison. Il y aura aussi pour les amateurs la « REVUE  SPORTSMAN 2011» qui sera distribuée à tous les autodromes visitées par la série à plus de 1000 copies. Cette revue touchera toutes les aspects de la série Sportsman (Classement, photos, articles, calendriers, présentations de pilotes, coin technique et bien d’autres).

 

Il a aussi été annoncé une légère majoration des bourses, fond de point pour la saison 2011.

 

Il a été annoncé aux pilotes une entente entre la série et l’autodrome Chaudière comprenant une année de contrat et des années d’option. Lors de cette signature, la direction de l’autodrome Chaudière, c’est engagé à ce que la revue Sportsman soit distribuée gratuitement sur son site pour les 3 prochaines saisons. Aussi une clause de non concurrence a été signée entre les deux partis pour 3 ans.

 

La série sera présente au Salon de l’Auto Sport de Québec, les 8-9-10 avril avec un kiosque et 8 voitures sur place dont deux muscles cars. Un camaro et un mustang 2011.

 

Il a aussi été voté par les pilotes le retrait du livre des règlements à compter du 13 mars 2011 du carburateur Rochester.

 

En terminant, présentement 26 pilotes ont confirmé leur retour avec la série pour 2011. D’autres inscriptions sont à venir.

NASCAR Announces 2011 Updates For Touring Series

Simplified Rookie Rules, Race Procedure Changes To Take Effect

 

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (March 4, 2011) — NASCAR announced today updates for the 2011 NASCAR regional touring series, highlighted by changes to simplify the rookie of the year award. Also announced were two changes to race procedures, the elimination of the post-qualifying redraw for starting position in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour and NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour, and a cost-saving spec-fuel program for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour.

 

 

Drivers will be eligible to compete for Sunoco-sponsored rookie awards for the NASCAR K&N Pro Series, NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour, and NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour, and rookie awards for the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series if they meet the following criteria, as of the first race of their respective season:

·         The driver has not competed in more than seven career races in the respective series

·         The driver has not competed in more than three separate seasons in the respective series

·         A driver has not competed in more than three career races in NASCAR’s national series

“The changes simplify the process for determining rookie eligibility and brings the program in line with how our Competition department evaluates competitors,,” said George Silbermann, NASCAR managing director of racing operations. “This makes it easier for our fans, competitors and media to follow, and maintains the competition for the awards among drivers who can truly be classified as rookies in their series.”

Rookies will continue to be scored in each race against other rookies, and the rookie of the year will be awarded to the driver who accumulates the most rookie points in their respective series during the season.

In addition, Sunoco’s sponsorship of the four U.S.-based touring series was extended through 2019, in conjunction with its sponsorship of the national series rookie programs.

"We are thrilled to sponsor NASCAR's Rookie of the Year. It supports rising young talent, promotes the future of a great sport, and makes for exciting racing as drivers compete for the title," said Bob Owens, Sunoco's senior vice president of marketing.

For the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East and West, NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour and NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour, the Sunoco award will be paid out to the top three drivers in the Sunoco Rookie of the Year standings at the year-end awards banquet. Top finishing rookies will be recognized for the accomplishments at the following race.

Also announced are a pair of race procedures rules changes that bring the touring series in line with the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, NASCAR Nationwide Series and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.

·         If a green-white-checkered finish is necessary, a maximum three attempts will be made.

·         On all restarts, passing will not be permitted until the car reaches the start-finish line.

The NASCAR K&N Pro Series West opener at Phoenix International Raceway last month and the NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown in Irwindale, Calif., in January, competed under the new guidelines.

Also, in an effort to help teams contain costs, the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour and long-time fuel provider New England Race Fuels will utilize a spec fuel – Sunoco Blue 112 leaded – for 13 of its 16 races. Competitors are not required to purchase the fuel at the track, but are required to use the spec fuel. For the three events held in conjunction with NASCAR national-series events (New Hampshire Motor Speedway in July and September, and Bristol Motor Speedway in August), Sunoco GTX Unleaded will continue to be used.

ACT NEWS : Sophomore Drivers Babb and Theriault Ready for 2011 ACT

Waterbury, VT – After competing in one of the closest Rookie of the Year battles in American Canadian Tour (ACT) history, Windham, Maine’s Brad Babb and Fort Kent, Maine’s Austin Theriault are ready for 2011. The two finished just three points apart in the 2010 Rookie of the Year standings.

 

Babb came out on top of the standings and claimed the 2010 ACT Rookie of the Year honors after capturing his first career top five in the season finale at Waterford (CT) Speedbowl. With the help of his crew chief and father, Bobby, a former ACT competitor, he also earned an impressive sixth place in the 2010 ACT standings.

Babb is in his senior year of high school, but has made time to work for his father’s logging company, snowmobile and prepare the car over the winter months. “We only have a couple small things left. If Lee (the 2011 season opener) was next week we’d be ready,” said Babb.

The 18 year old has now seen nearly every track on the 2011 ACT schedule and credits the 2010 season for teaching him how to adapt to new tracks. He hopes to use that knowledge to better his 6th place effort in the 2010 standings and top his career high 5th place finish at Waterford last October.

“We’d really like to finish in the top five in the standings and win a couple races, but we’ll see how everything goes before we set too high of goals,” said Babb. “I’m really looking forward to going back to White Mountain (Motorsports Park). We were going pretty good there before we broke (in 2010).” The White Mountain 150 was Babb’s only finish outside of the top 20 and the only event he did not finish.

Fellow Maine resident, Theriault has joined forces with Rick Paya Motorsports (RPM) of Georgia, Vermont, during the off season. RPM has won the ACT Late Model Tour Championship the past two seasons with driver Brian Hoar. Theriault had a successful rookie season in 2010, earning his first career top five with a second at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway. He also took second in the rookie standings and seventh in the overall standings.

The 17 year old high school student took a break from his varsity wrestling schedule this winter to join his new team at the 2011 Goodyear Speedweeks Cup at New Smyrna Speedway in New Smyrna Beach, Florida. He started his sophomore season early with a respectable 13th place finish in the Cup standings with an 11th and 16th place effort in the two 100 lap events.

“I’m really looking forward to this year. I’m still just grateful to be driving an RPM car,” Theriault said. “We’re still working on the team chemistry with a brand new car.”

Babb will kick off his sophomore season and Theriault will continue his in the ACT season opening New Hampshire Governor’s Cup 150 at Lee USA Speedway in Lee, New Hampshire on Sunday, April 17.

Les pilotes de REVSTAR étaient en piste ce week-end pour disputer le dernier programme double de la saison et qui allait couronner le premier champion de REVSTAR sur glace.  

 

D'abord, les pilote se sont confrontés sur l'anneau de glace de Ste-Eulalie samedi avant de reprendre les hostilités dès dimanche du côté du Mont Carmel.

Course de Ste-Eulalie.

C'est une piste très courte en forme de "D" qui donnait l'impression d'une course du Challenge sur Glace de Sherbrooke. Les STR étaient en dérapage contrôlé tout au long de la ligne droite avant, même en passant devant la tour du signaleur. Quel spectacle !

Victoire de Gabriel Richer

Le jeune pilote de REVSTAR a de nouveau croisé le drapeau à damier en tête, mais cette fois l'opposition était vive. Carl Labonté avait décidé de participer au programme ce week-end. Le co-propriétaire de la série, Carl Labonté a commis quelques erreurs de pilotages qui lui ont  coûté probablement la pôle position et qui sait, peut-être même la victoire?

 

Richer a eu cependant fort à faire pour conserver la tête. "Carl m'a donné du fil à retordre", dit Gabriel Richer.  "Les conditions de piste n'étaient idéales, mais c'était pareil pour tout le monde. Durant la finale je partais 2e, et dès le départ j'ai réussi à dépasser Carl pour prendre les commandes de l'épreuve. Après ça, il a tout tenté pour reprendre la première place mais j'ai réussi à me maintenir en tête."

En fier compétiteur Carl a poussé au maximum. 'J'ai été peut-être trop agressif, c'est ça qui m'a fait commettre une erreur en finale. Mais je dois dire que Gabriel était très rapide."

 

Richer a bien failli voir la victoire lui échapper lorsqu'il a accroché le levier d'ignition et il a calé le moteur. "Je ne sais pas ce qui s'est passé, est-ce que j'ai accroché le levier ou si c'est les vibrations qui l'ont fait déclencher ?  Je ne sais pas !  Ça s'est passé en amorçant le dernier en passant sous le signaleur. Quand j'ai entendu le moteur couper, je pensais que c'était fini pour la course. Heureusement, en regardant dans le tableau de bord, j'ai pu voir le levier qui était à "off". Je l'ai relevé et le moteur est reparti sans que je perde ma première place."

Les amateurs de courses sur glace présents à Ste-Eulalie ont été très impressionnés par la qualité du spectacle offert par les pilotes de REVSTAR.

Dès le lendemain, les pilotes de REVSTAR s'étaient déplacés du côté du Mont-Carmel pour la dernière manche du championnat.

Les spectateurs ont rempli les emplacements au tour de la piste au Lac Morin par une belle journée ensoleillée pour venir assister à la clôture de la première saison historique de  la série REVSTAR sur glace.

 

Gabriel Richer avait une bonne avance en tête du championnat, toutefois Carl Labonté a voulu lui offrir un défi supplémentaire en faisant appel à  Patrick Beaumier, un champion de glace en V8 mais cette fois sur un circuit qu'il connait parfaitement.

Partrick Beaumier aurait eu besoin de quelques tours de plus en pratique de se familiariser avec le pilotage d'une REVSTAR, un temps d'adaptation trop court pour se faire justice sur la piste.

 

Pierre Berthiaume a été celui qui a donné la meilleure opposition à Richer sans toutefois parvenir à le devancer.

"C'est un bel évènement au Lac Morin, le circuit aménagé sur un lac est super. Après la course de la veille, les clous du pneus droit avant étaient presque tous usés et nos réglages ne fonctionnaient pas. On était incapable de faire tourner la voiture. On a fait installer des nouveaux clous et on a changé le set-up et tout s'est replacé."

 

"Je tenais à terminer avec une victoire... c'était la dernière course de l'année sur glace, j'étais à une victoire d'une saison parfaite.  Tout s'est bien passé et je l'ai eu !  Après ma première victoire j'avais dit que je voulais toutes les gagnés, mais je ne croyais pas pouvoir réaliser cet exploit."

Ici aussi, les amateurs de course ont été surpris par la qualité du spectacle, tous les commentaires étaient élogieux. Il y en a qui ont mentionné qu'il aimait le ronronnement des moteurs alors que d'autres disaient : "C'est vraiment spécial !"  ou  "Cool, ces voitures Open Wheel !" alors que certains constataient que c'était super rapide. Dans l'ensemble tous les amateurs de courses étaient unanimes pour dire que le spectacle était à la hauteur.

Une saison parfaite pour Gabriel Richer

Le jeune pilote a dominé toutes les courses cet hiver malgré une forte opposition.

Comment explique-t-il qu'il ait été aussi dominant ?  "J'en sais rien !  Dès le début de la saison de glace, je me suis senti à l'aise à bord de la voiture. J'avais beaucoup de plaisir à pousser au maximum et à mettre la voiture en travers. C'est arrivé comme ça, et c'est toute une sensation !"

Il est maintenant gonflé à bloc, maintenant qu'il a connu les joies de la victoire, il ne voudra certainement pas en rester là. Il sera à considérer comme un aspirant au championnat en 2011.

"J'ai adoré remporter des courses, ça donne une sensation inégalée. J'espère pousuivre sur cette lancée pour la vrai saison d'été. Mais, je ne veux pas me mettre de pression inutile, je ne sais pas comment ça va se passer pour les prochaines courses, donc je ne me fais pas d'idée car je ne veux pas être déçu. On verra ça au début de la saison", conclut le sympathique premier champion de glace 2011.

REVSTAR, une première saison satisfaisante !

"La glace est vraiment cassée", maintenant on sait à quoi s'attendre surtout de la part des pilotes. On peut déjà vous assurer que nous reviendrons encore plus nombreux l'année prochaine.

ANDREW RANGER FINISHES 7th IN K&N WEST EVENT

Phoenix, AZ — February 25, 2011 — On Thursday, two-time NASCAR Canadian Tire Series Champion Andrew Ranger scored a seventh place finish in the NASCAR K&N West Series event held at Phoenix International Raceway in Avondale, Arizona just outside Phoenix.

 

 

Ranger, the driver of the No. 35 Waste Management Recycling NDS Motorsports, lined up in 4th place for

the 3 Amigos Organic Blanco 100 after setting second fastest time in practice.  “We were quick right off the truck and improved each time we went out in practice” commented Ranger.

 

The Roxton Pond, Quebec native defended his fourth place position until the first caution, on lap 18, when as per the team’s game plan; he drove the No. 35 Waste Management Recycling NDS Motorsports car down pit road for refueling. 

 

By lap 36, Ranger had worked his way back to fifth place and continued his march to the front.  He climbed as high as second place and even challenged for the lead.  On the final restart, with 7 laps to go, Ranger then in third place paid the price for that late race caution and having elected not to get tires.  He held on to a seventh place finish just outside the No. 35 Waste Management Recycling NDS Motorsports’ goal of a top 5 finish.

 

“The team and I decided to pit early and do gas only.  I still think it was the right thing to do, but the 8 cautions in the race certainly did not play in our favor.  The last caution with 7 laps to go sealed our faith.  We had to battle against others with 25 laps older tires” added Ranger.

 

Andrew Ranger will return behind the wheel of the No. 35 Waste Management Recycling NDS Motorsports race car on April 28, when the NASCAR K&N East Series visits Richmond International Speedway.
