| Boischatel, QC driver Donald Theetge and the #80 team will be rolling on Monday morning to the Race Basic shops for a last check before the Goodyear tire tests at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. |
| Theetge the 2006 ACT Castrol Champion was selected by ACT President Tom M. Curley along with Vermont Senator Phil Scott to participate in a test session at the very fast 1 mile oval. Theetge who took possession of a brand new Race Basic race car over the winter will be looking to collect important data not only for Goodyear but for Race Basic car builder as well. A large proportion of ACT competitors are fielding this "frame". Much the same can be said about Phil Scott who hails a Dale Shaw race car. ACT will be racing for the first time at the Loudon, NH racetrack on September 19th. In a controversial interview over at courant.com, NHMS winningest driver Ted Christopher made a couple controversial statements about the ACT Invitational. "They run a stock brake caliper. You can't run a stock brake calliper at New Hampshire. That place requires tremendous brakes I don't care how fast you're going. There's a few things there. The cars will be safe, but they run a single piston stock GM calliper brake. That ain't going to work up there. There's certain things about running cars there. You start racing that racetrack, who knows, maybe the brakes will last but they'll be junk at the end. Who knows, they haven't even tested there yet." There is merit to Christopher's comment. What needs to be adapted to these ultra light and fast short track designed ACT cars for them to be safe and functional on the long track? When the announcement of the race first came about, successful crew chief Eric Laperle commented to me about the teams that run all the light weight bling bling would have to think about going to stronger and heavier steel components. As an example, over the last two years when the Tour travelled to Kawartha Speedway, in non scientific observations, it seemed a larger than normal quantity of wheels failed. The wheels would crack around the welds at the beeds. This would result in slow leaks and teams searching endlessly for the loss in on track performance. What I suspect is the higher speeds and forces of the banks, much stronger than at any of the other facilities visited, was the cause of the failures. What will it be like at NHMS? A lot of the teams may have to swap out their "light weight" wheels for stronger ones is probably a safe bet. But what else is there? As if the technical issues the teams will face wasn't enough Christopher took a jab at Curley: "I've talked to some people that have run their series and they've told me it's like [ACT president] Tom Curley picks who he wants to win," said Christopher, the 2008 Whelen Modified Tour champion. "I'm not interested in racing something like that. I know people that have run with Curley. I haven't personally myself, but he runs a different ship I guess. Well, he runs the ship from what I hear, he's the captain." One thing is for sure, you can't be indifferent to TC's no-bullshit comments. Because of his driving abilities and driving style, I would love seeing him in the Oxford 250 qualifiers. Can you say excitement? |

| I visited the Salon national auto-sport motorisé car show in St-Hyacinthe, QC. It used to be the travel destination for anything that was motorsports. Unfortunately, it has not been the case as the participation of stock cars is very limited. Find enclosed some pictures from the show, race cars and racing personalities present and talking thei way thru the off season. |

| I had the pleasure of attending the 40th Quebec auto sport car show on April 3rd. Lots of great muscle cars, tuner imports and of course great looking stock cars. |
| Our friends of the Super Sportsman class and their president Andre Poulin was the largest group. Nine cars if I counted well. Patrick Verner and five vintage cars were also present. Mr Verner was excited to share his schedule and the fact they will be the main event at Autodrome Montmagny in July. Carl Labonté was there with two beautiful Speed STR versatile racecars. Our Pro Truck friends were also on site with two beautiful trucks... Speaking of Pro Trucks, can someone tell me what series Champion Jimmy Cormier has in his ears ? Track officials from Montmangy, Chaudière and Riverside were also present. Montmagny had a dirt sprint car onsite. Tom Curley visited the two ACT representatives Alexandre Gingras and Jonathan Desbiens. Everyone was talking racing. All were excited about taking to the track soon. |

TONY STEWART COMES TO THUNDER ROAD IN ’09 STEWART TO RACE IN VERMONT GOVERNOR’S CUP 150
For Immediate Release - ACT – 032909-12A
Barre, VT – Two-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Champion Tony Stewart will race in the CARQUEST Vermont Governor’s Cup 150 lap race Thursday, June 25 as part of the 50th Anniversary Celebration at Barre’s Thunder Road International Speedbowl.
The 2002 and 2005 Cup winner with 32 major NASCAR victories to his credit is considered the most versatile race driver since Mario Andretti in the 1970s. In 1995 Stewart gained national attention when he swept all three of the United States Auto Club’s major open cockpit divisions, capturing the Midget, Sprint, and Silver Crown Series. He was the first driver to ever do so. He was the 1997 Indianapolis Racing League Champion and is remembered as the rookie who sat on the Indianapolis 500 pole and led for 144 laps before his car went away.
The Rushville, Indiana racer, considered the most aggressive driver in American motorsports today told Thunder Road track officials ‘The Road’ has special significance. “Thunder Road has been on my list of short tracks that I just have to race”, he said. “My friend Kenny Schrader tells me the competition is tough. This is a race I’m looking forward to,” said the twice Daytona 400 winner.
Thunder Road promoter and co-owner Tom Curley said, “Of all the people, in any form of racing, the one driver I wanted to have help us celebrate the track’s 50th anniversary is Tony Stewart. I have always thought he represents what stock car racing is really all about”, said Curley. “He definitely will be coming to race and that’s what Thunder Road fans and competitors expect”.
The CARQUEST Governor’s Cup will draw a top field from the American-Canadian Tour. Earlier this year ACT announced that the Governor’s Cup would be designated as a Qualifier for the Saturday, September 19th ACT INVITATIONAL at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon. It will be part of the Sprint Cup weekend, which will culminate with the Sylvania 300 on Sunday, September 20th. If Stewart wins the Barre race and elects to compete, New Hampshire Motor Speedway will increase the starting line-up for the INVITATIONAL.
A special commemorative 50th Anniversary Governor’s Cup Tony Stewart discounted ticket will be available beginning with Thunder Road’s Mekkelsen Memorial Day Classic double header over the May 23/24 weekend when the American-Canadian Tour will be joined by the True Value Modified Racing Series on Memorial Day weekend.
Ticket prices for the Governor’s Cup will be $17.00 for Adult advance tickets, with race day Adult tickets $20, and Children’s ticket (6-12) $3.00. Pits will open at 2pm, front gate at 3pm, with post time 6pm and the Governor’s Cup scheduled for 8pm.
For additional information, contact the American-Canadian Tour at 802-244-6963 or media@acttour.com.

| In order to clear up some topics being written about in blogs and discussed in forums, I asked M. Tom Curley, ACT President, to clarify his position on them:

| As most of you know, I am an avid motorsport fan, with stock car having a special place over the other forms. | Its official. Patrick Laperle will only run one lap and retire. New Smyrna Speedway, New Smyrna Beach, Floride. | Canadian Patrick Laperle won his third ASA / Crate Late Model stock car feature event and stretches his point lead in the 43rd World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing championship held at New Smyrna Speedway in New Smyrna Beach, Florida. Laperle, from St-Denis, Québec, Canada, started the race from the pole position. Right away second place starter David Wagner jumped ahead of him. But the field was shown the red flag for an incident in turn 3 involving Tanner Barryhill and Matt Cohen. Both are done for the night. A complete restart was performed. As in the previous start, Wagner jumped in the lead, ahead of Laperle, taking advantage of the momentum the outside groove provides. On lap 3 the field was slowed for the spinning car of James Weller just outside turn 3. As per ASA procedures all restarts were performed single file. This procedure gave enough cushion to Wagner for him to protect the top spot. “From the start of the race I knew I had enough to compete with David. But I am racing the Championship, so I was ok to settle in behind him. Around the half way, his car got more and more difficult to drive. At lap 13, he opened the door so I tried to come in, but he pulled away on me. The next time by, he moved up again. This time I wasn’t going to just watched. I wanted to dance. I pulled alongside coming out of turn three and carried enough speed to keep me in the lead all the way to turn one. By then I cleared him and there was no way he could catch up to me” said Laperle. The race went green the rest of the distance and Laperle crossed the finish line with a four car lengths advantage over Wagner. With this win Patrick Laperle increases his championship lead over David Wagner. Laperle (218 pts) now leads by 12 points over Wagner (206 pts), by 48 points over Landon Cassill (170 pts) and by 64 over Joseph Gase (154 pts). With only two races remaining (Thursday and Friday night) in the championship only 4 drivers (Laperle, Wagner, Cassill and Gase) are still in contention for the coveted crown. A win is worth 40 points and each position behind drops by 4 points. And a driver will get 4 points for taking the green flag. “We are sticking to the game plan: be there at the finish and score important points towards the championship. But if the win is in sight why slow down?” said the smiling Frenchman. Patrick Laperle is back in action on Thursday, February 12th at New Smyrna Speedway in New Smyrna Beach, Florida for the 6th feature event of a 7 event ASA / Crate championship as part of the 43rd World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing. |

Voici le classement après 4 courses: | Laperle: the first driver to win two ASA / Crate Late Model feature events! Started from the fifth position, after he forced a five car inversion, Laperle was determined to proove to all onsite that he can win and didn't need any favours to do so. Landon Cassill, the second night feature winner, didn't lose anytime to jump in the lead. James Weller, the winner of the first feature race, David Wagner and Patrick Laperle (winner of the 3rd feature) all chasing him. At mid-race James Weller went in strong in 3 & 4, pushed up into Cassill sending him into the 4th turn wall. For this Weller was sent to the rear of the field. Wagner and Laperle were now 1-2. With Gase, Maynard and Chase behind them. At the restart, 3 cars played bumper cars on the back stretch... with Cole Powell flipping over. No one was injured... except for Powell's ego: his night was now over. Once Laperle passed Wagner for the lead, Wagner never really fought back. Lapele is the first driver to win two features in the ASA / Crate Late Model division. We will find them back in action tomorrow night for the fifth round of competition. Congratulations to Eric Chase of Milton, Vermont for his best performance with a fifth place finish. If some had doubts about Laperle's hability to get a "real" win... in your face. World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing. Patrick a bien courru.
| Patrick Laperle waisted no time to get a win in the 43rd World Series of Asphat Stock Car Racing. "Obviously I would have prefered a non-race shortened event win. But it is a win and I will take it; but I intend to get a real one" said Laperle. The race sheduled for 25 laps was shortened to 11 laps. After 8 cautions, close to 60 minutes and only 11 laps in the books FASCAR officials warned the drivers via their spotters: "one more caution and the race is official". On the final restart, just as the Leaders were going to cross the line to get to lap 12 Ontario driver Kyle Delisle spun on the front stretch forcing yet another caution. The race ended under Yellow - Checker. This is Laperle's first career Speedweeks feature race win. "Its stupid. The drivers are a shame to this class. Patrick raced well. Just like Saturday night. As a matter of fact I didn't know how he was. He race me well and it was good and fun racin. Starting upfront tonight was definately an advanvtage." said Landon Cassill.

| The second evening of racing at the very fast half mile New Smyrna Speedway didn't start on a good note for the Laperle team. "After turning a few practice laps the car had no power, I turned it off. I was sure we just blew the motor" declared Laperle. It was around 1:15pm it it was the last official practice session of the day. No time trials for the ASA/CRATE Late models rank therefore the team only had until 7:30 (post time) to make the repairs.... or replace the engine. They even initiated discussions to rent a power plant should it become necessary. After an inspection the team supported by their friend and longtime engine builder Julio Miglioli they concluded on the damage: the distributor shaft gear broke and needed to be changed. The Laperle, Claude Leclerc who is giving them a hand and Julio replaced the part with enough time to participate in the 3:00pm practice session exclusive to cars involved in crashes or that had mechanical failures. The car was back to its Thursday form when Laperle was clocked fastest. The team - with crew chief Eric leading the charge was all smile. With the inversion of the 9 first spots by virtue of his 7th place finish on night 1 would start 3rd in the 25 lap feature race. He did very well and finished a strong third place right behind Landon Cassil and Dave Rigan. "We are very opportunistic so far. Thursday's practice served to identify a engine mount problem. In today's practice session we found out about the distributor problem, had we not taken part of it we would have found out of the problem only in the feature race" declared Eldor Laperle, Patrick, Eric and Daniel's dad. Other Ontario and Vermont racers weren't as fortunate. I will be looking out for more information on their results and the problem that ended Eric Chase's run with two laps to go. Sunday is an off night for the ASA/Crate class. Until Monday, watch the videos and the race description I called of the race. This is the second night in a row I try commenting live a race.... WOW! what additional respect I have for guys like Troy Germain, Dave Moody, JF Descarries and Denis Lecours. Today, I merged the incar audio/video with my race description. Enjoy. Monday - if courage permits - I will attempt a bilingual race description merged with the video. |

Suite demain.... | The first night of racing at New Smyrna Speedway just concluded at 01h00am!!! After several cautions and even several red flag consitions for the open-wheel cars (SK Modifieds, Tour-type modifieds). Patrick Laperle qualified 11th out 28 cars who attempted to qualify. Vermont's Eric Chase, who won a leg last year, could do no better than 23rd. In the feature, with the first seven qualifiers inveted, Laperle who should have started 11th ended up starting 13th. In the first could of laps, Chase was involved in a wreck in turns #3 and #4. Lap after lap Laperle would pass cars one by one even diving down and making it 3 wide on the very long half-mile straight aways. His most fierced competitors was the #51 of Stephen Nasse, who captured the pole. For more than 7 of the 25 laps they raced eached other inch by inch. In the end, unofficially, since no results were available when we left, Laperle would have finished 7th. Congratulations! Meanwhile Chase, finished deep in the field. Lots of good and upcoming opportunities to make it up. Continued tomorrow... |

| Bonnes nouvelles! | Great news! The ACT Office released a schedule change for the ACT CASTROL Series. The first race planned for May 23rd will now be ran on May 16 2009. With this schedule change racers who want to compete on both the ACT TOUR and the ACT CASTROL Series will not be pressured to race on both the 23rd and 24th of May (Thunder Road). [added: 2009-01-22] But competitors performing on both schedules will have to travel the next day to Oxford on May 17th. In addition, they confirmed that the price of admission at Thunder Road will remain the same for 2009. Keeping status quo was justified by the current economic situation and a great way to give something back to the fans who supported the track over the last 50 years and to help celebrate the track's 50th anniversary Still about Thunder Road, the local event scheduled for May 10th is cancelled, this is required because of Capital improvements be performed during the month of May. |
