MacDonald and Theetge Enter ACT NH Governor's Cup Opener

        Waterbury, VT – The American Canadian Tour (ACT) announced today that Eddie MacDonald from Rowley, MA and Donald Theetge, of Boischatel, Quebec have filed entries for the New Hampshire Governor’s Cup 150 championship stock car season opener at the Lee USA Speedway on Sunday, April 15, 2012.

 

MacDonald has compiled an impressive regional and national record during his racing career. The ‘outlaw’, as he is often known throughout New England, is one of the last of the Northeast independent teams to race on the national stage in the NASCAR K&N Series. He also has recorded an impressive win record in his appearances with his ACT Late Model over the past several years, including two New Hampshire Motor Speedway (NHMS) ACT Invitational wins and two TD Bank Oxford 250 wins. His family owns the Lee USA Speedway in Lee, NH which is where he first began his racing career.

 

“We have really enjoyed racing with the ACT guys over the past four or five seasons. There is a great mix of veteran and young talent in ACT racing, and we feel lucky to have won a few of the big shows,” said MacDonald.

 

“Everyone might think we have an advantage at Lee because I started there, but really we are still on a learning curve with the ACT cars, especially on the short tracks. Guys like Wayne Helliwell Jr. (multi-time Lee track Champion), Brian Hoar (eight-time ACT Champion and defending NH Governor’s Cup winner), and Joey Polewarczyk, Jr. from nearby Hudson, NH (former winner of the NH Governor’s Cup) are going to be tough to beat. We have a lot of fun racing with the ACT Late Model and always look forward to the races we can fit into our schedule,” concluded MacDonald.

 

The ACT Lee USA relationship goes back to 1987 with a lot of history, and has been the traditional opening event of the season for northern Late Model racing and the ACT US. The sister series for the ACT is the Castrol Series which races a full touring schedule throughout the province of Quebec. Donald Theetge is a two-time Champion of that series and has filed an entry for the ACT US Lee opening event.

 

“We don’t open our season in Quebec until May 26th and I have a brand new car for this season, so I want to try it out. I have raced at Lee in both the old ACT Pro Stock division and with the Late Model. It is fast and the only problem is the walls! I really just want to get some time on my new car because I wish to run for the ACT Castrol Series Championship this season. Patrick (Laperle) and I have each won the Castrol title two times and I would like to be the first with three championships. If we have some luck we hope we can qualify and have a good race at Lee”, said Theetge.

 

MacDonald and Theetge will have plenty of competition as some of the best Late Model racers in the region will begin their seasons at the New Hampshire 1/3 mile oval.

 

Other early entrants looking to get their 2012 seasons off to a good start include several Pine Tree state drivers. Veterans Glen Luce, Turner, ME; Ricky Rolfe, Albany Township, ME; and 2011 ACT Rookie-of-the-Year Ben Ashline from Pittston, ME have entered. Young sensation Austin Theriault from Fort Kent, ME, in the Mickey Green-prepared TNT entry, will look for his first ACT win at the Lee opener.

 

Milton, Vermont will be well represented with seven-time ACT Champion Jean-Paul Cyr, and veteran Brent Dragon who has never missed a Late Model opener at Lee, leading the charge.

 

Trying to keep the New Hampshire Governor’s Cup in their home state, besides Granite State natives Helliwell and Pole, will be Randy Potter, Groveton, NH and the ‘Irish Hit Man’ Quinny Welch from Lancaster, NH, along with former Lee Late Model veteran, Jeffrey Labrecque, Jr., Rochester, NH.

 

Over 40 teams are expected to open their race seasons at Lee on Sunday, May 15, 2012. Post time is 1:15pm. Gates open at 10:00am. General Admission: Adults $25; Juniors (13-16 years old) $15; Kids (12 and under) Free.

Eddie MacDonald Wins Thrilling ACT Invitational at NHMS

Loudon, NH – Eddie MacDonald of Rowley, Massachusetts claimed his second American Canadian Tour Invitational after a thrilling battle with Barre, Vermont’s Nick Sweet at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon, NH on Saturday, September 24. MacDonald and Sweet swapped the lead four times over the final 15 laps of the 50 mile event on the “Magic Mile.” The race wasn’t decided until the final corner, when MacDonald edge Sweet coming off turn four to take the checker and the $4,000 pay day.

 

MacDonald seemed to have a slightly better car on the restarts, but Sweet came back strong after a couple of laps. MacDonald came from the 25th starting position to take the lead on lap 32. Sweet came from the 27th starting spot and cleared traffic on lap 35. The 2010 Thunder Road Champion set his sights on MacDonald with just 15 laps to go. It took him just five laps to run down the Inaugural ACT Invitational Champion and take the lead on lap 40, before the second caution of the event on lap 41.

MacDonald took the lead back after the caution, but held on for just two laps before Sweet took over again. Sweet would lead until the final caution on lap 45. One lap after the restart MacDonald took over for good, but not without a fight from Sweet. The two took the white flag side-by-side as the crowd rose to their feet. Sweet had the inside line and seemed to have the advantage down the back stretch. The two stayed door-to-door through turns three and four, but Sweet got loose coming out of four giving MacDonald the edge.

“We were lucky at the end. I was so psyched to get my new sponsor, Hancock Electric, in victory lane,” said MacDonald. “I didn’t know it was Nick (Sweet) in that car. I feel bad cutting him off, but wanted to do everything I could to win.”

“Great race at the end,” said Sweet. “Everything happens to me in twos (at NHMS). Three years ago we finished second to Eddie (MacDonald). Last year we wrecked on lap two. This year we finished second to Eddie (MacDonald) again.” 

Former Oxford Plains Speedway Champion Shawn Martin of Turner, Maine led early and held off two-time White Mountain Motorsports Park Champion Quinny Welch of Lancaster, New Hampshire in the late stages of the event to take third. Brad Leighton, a former NHMS track champion from Center Harbor, New Hampshire edged out eight-time ACT Champion Brian Hoar of Williston, VT at the line to complete the top five.

“Today I felt like I was on top of the world,” said Martin. “That was probably the race of my life.”

Hoar, last year’s Invitational winner Joey Polewarczyk, Jr. of Hudson, New Hampshire, Tom Carey, Jr. of New Salem, Massachusetts, former Série ACT Castrol Champion Karl Allard of St-Felicien, Quebec and Glen Luce of Turner, Maine completed the top ten.

The 50 mile, third annual ACT Invitational was completed in 45 minutes and 36 seconds with three cautions including the first on lap 27 for debris. The lead was swapped six times between four drivers. MacDonald edged Sweet by just 0.161 seconds.

Many of the 43 car field will head to Barre, Vermont’s Thunder Road next weekend for the 49th annual People’s United Bank Milk Bowl. Booth Bros./H.P. Hood qualifying will be Saturday, October 1 with the Milk Bowl on Sunday, October 2.

The ACT season will come to a close the following weekend with the Rent-A-Wreck Fall Foliage 200 at Airborne Speedway in Plattsburgh, New York on Saturday, October 8.

Eddie MacDonald Wins Segment #1 of ACT All-Star Challenge at New Hampshire Motor Speedway

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE                    ACT-081311

Loudon, NH – Eddie MacDonald of Rowley, Massachusetts won segment one of the two segment ACT All-Star Challenge at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Saturday, September 13. MacDonald outran current ACT point leader and defending champion Brian Hoar of Williston, Vermont.

 

MacDonald took the lead early from the outside pole but had to battle with Joey Laquerre of East Montpelier, Vermont. MacDonald broke out to a comfortable lead before Hoar chased him down in the final laps. Hoar ran out of time after just getting to MacDonald’s bumper as they worked through lap traffic.

Tom Carey, Jr. from New Salem, Massachusetts came from the eighth starting spot to take third, followed by Laquerre, and Austin Theriault completed the top five. Série ACT Castrol competitors Karl Allard, Alex Labbé and Donald Theetge took the sixth through 8th positions. Wayne Helliwell, Jr. and Brad Leighton completed the top ten.

The second and final segment will be 50 laps and will be run at 6:15pm. The top 36 finishers from segment #1 have been inverted for the start of the second. Drivers receive points (1 for first, 2 for second, 3 for third, etc. to 44 for forty-fourth) for each segment. The overall ACT All-Star Challenge winner will be determined by the lowest combined score.

Eddie MacDonald and Joey Laquerre Take ACT Late Model Challenge Front Row at New Hampshire Motor Speedway

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE                             ACT-081211

Loudon, NH – Eddie MacDonald of Rowley, Massachusetts and Joey Laquerre of East Montpelier, Vermont will sit on the front row in the first segment of the American Canadian Tour Late Model Challenge at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Saturday, August 13. MacDonald earned a +14 and Laquerre picked up a +11 in ACT’s unique plus/minus handicap system.

 

Wayne Helliwell, Jr., Austin Theriault, and Donald Theetge will fill the 3rd through 5th positions. Brian Hoar, Alex Labbé, Tom Carey, Jr., Mark Lamberton and Donnie Lashua will complete the top ten starting positions.

 

Heat winners were Brian Hoar, Eddie MacDonald and Aaron Fellows. The Last Chance races were won by John Donahue and Patrick Laperle. The two ACT Late Model Tour provisionals were awarded to Brent Dragon and Rowland Robinson, Jr., while the two Série ACT Castrol provisionals were taken by Patrick Hamel and Marc-Andre Cliche.

The ACT Late Models completed a total of 100 laps of qualifying between three heats and two last chance events. A total of 55 cars attempted to qualify for the forty-four car field. Those not qualifying were Patrick Floyd, Patrick Cliche, Ken Baird, Tommy Ricker, Guy Caron, Yannick Tremblay, Jimmy Hebert, Matt Anderson, Ricky Roberts, Jimmy Linardy and Ben Lynch.

The forty-four car field is set for the first segment of the ACT All-Star Challenge at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, which will roll off at 10:30am on Saturday, August 13. The top 36 in the segment #1 finish will be inverted for segment #2. The losest combined score will claim the ACT Late Model Challenge win.

2010 Oxford 250

Voici un album de 582 photographies prises lors TD Banknorth 250, disputé sur le circuit du Oxford Plains Speedway à Oxford, Maine les 18 et 19 juillet 2010.

C’est Eddie MacDonald qui a remporté l’épreuve devançant Brian Hoar et Corey Morgan.

 

Patrick Laperle (7e) et Karl Allard (20e) ont été les seuls québécois/canadiens à se qualifier pour la finale.  79 voitures étaient ont tenté de se tailler une place sur la grille des 39 partants.

 

Sur place, Yvon Bédard, Éric Giguère, Justin Holtom, Pete Shepperd et Donald Theetge n’ont pu faire la grande finale qui payait 25,000$ au gagnant et 100$ pour chacun des tours menés.

 

Les seuls canadiens à avoir remporté l’épreuve au fil des 37 années d’histoire de l’épreuve ont été : Don Biderman, Junior Hanley, Derek Lynch et Dave Withlock.

In the history of the race, 37 years, only Don Biderman, Junior Hanley, Derek Lynch and Dave Withlock brought the hardware north of the border.

ACT - Eddie MacDonald Holds On For ACT Win at Oxford Plains

Oxford, ME – Eddie MacDonald of Rowley, MA took the checkered flag in the American-Canadian Tour 150 at Oxford Plains Speedway in Oxford, ME. MacDonald started in the fifth starting position and would take the lead on a lap 54 restart.

The 2009 Oxford 250 and ACT Invitational at New Hampshire Motor Speedway winner would lead the remainder of the race but not without pressure from hometown favorite Tommy Ricker of Poland, ME. Ricker got to the rear bumper of MacDonald several times in the final laps but didn’t have enough to get by while the two worked their way through lap traffic. The 2009 ACT Late Model Tour Champion Brian Hoar took third after leading the first 25 laps. MacDonald’s only other ACT Late Model Tour win also came at Oxford Plains Speedway in August of 2007.

 

John Donahue made a late race charge from his 31st starting position to finish fourth followed by Tim Brackett rounding out the top 5. Travis Adams, Scott Payea, Brent Dragon, Jeff White and TJ Brackett rounded out the top ten.

The 150 lap event was completed in just over 52 minutes and was slowed by just one caution on lap 54.

With his win in the second event of the 2010 ACT Tour schedule. MacDonald joins opening day winner Nick Sweet as the first two qualifiers for the ACT Invitational at New Hampshire Motor Speedway that will be held on Saturday, September 18.

Several ACT Tour regulars failed to qualify for the feature including Jamie Fisher, Pete Potvin, Joey Laquerre, Chip Grenier, Craig Bushey, Derek Lynch, Jeff Zuidema, Eric Chase, Jean-Paul Cyr, Joey Polewarczyk, Jr., and Tyler Cahoon. A total of 53 competitors attempted to qualify.

The ACT Late Model Tour will be back in action on Friday, June 11 at Lee USA Speedway in Lee, NH for the makeup of the previously postponed NH Governor’s Cup 150. Post time at the 1/3 mile speedway will be 7:15pm.
