Jeff Taylor Handed Second ACT Win at Oxford Plains Speedway

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ACT-082011

Oxford, ME – Jeff Taylor of Farmington, Maine scored his second career ACT Late Model Tour win at Oxford Plains Speedway on Saturday, August 20. Taylor was running second behind Jeff White, who won the last ACT event at OPS, when White ran out of gas with eight laps remaining.

White, the current OPS point leader, and Taylor had broken away from the field following the last restart of the event on lap 93. White clearly had the car to beat as Taylor stuck with him but didn’t have enough to make the pass until White’s ride started sputtering after completing lap 142.

Taylor led the final eight laps uncontested and was followed to the line by Austin Theriault and current ACT point leader Brian Hoar. Two-time Oxford 250 winner Eddie MacDonald and Glen Luce completed the top five. TJ Brackett, Wayne Helliwell, Jr., Dave Farrington, Jr., Joey Polewarczyk, Jr., and Randy Potter filled out the top ten.

Taylor is already on the ACT Invitational at New Hampshire Motor Speedway (Saturday, September 24) invite list along with Brian Hoar, Nick Sweet, Patrick Laperle, John Donahue, Daniel Descoste, Jeff White, Patrick Hamel, Alex Labbe, Donald Theetge and Kyle Busch.

The ACT Late Model Tour heads north of the border next Saturday, August 27 for their 10^th event of the season. They will join the Série ACT Castrol for the combination Can-Am 200 at Riverside Speedway in Ste-Croix, Quebec.

ACT RESULTS: Jeff White Takes First ACT Win in Big JAB 150 at Oxford Plains Speedway

Oxford, ME – Winthrop, Maine’s Jeff White earned his first career American Canadian Tour win in dominant fashion at his hometrack of Oxford Plains Speedway on Saturday, June 4. White led all but three laps in the Big JAB 150 while battling with seven time and defending ACT Champion Brian Hoar.

Hoar held on for second followed by Brent Dragon, Joey Polewarczyk, Jr. and another Oxford regular TJ Brackett rounding out the top five. Shawn Martin completed the three Oxford regulars in the top ten with a sixth. Wayne Helliwell was the biggest mover in the 150 lap event as he came all the way from 32^nd to finished seventh. Eric Chase, Jeff Labrecque, Jr., and 2010 ACT Rookie of the Year Brad Babb completed the top ten.

A total of 41 ACT Late Models attempted to qualify for the 33 car field. The 150 lap event was completed in just 1 hour and four minutes with just three cautions. Twelve of the 33 car field finished on the lead lap.

With his first career ACT win, White also earns an invite to the ACT Invitational at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Saturday, September 24. He joins Hoar, Nick Sweet, Patrick Laperle, John Donahue and Daniel Descoste on the list of ACT winners that have received an invite so far in 2011.

The ACT Late Model Tour has next weekend off before making its annual trip to White Mountain Motorsports Park in North Woodstock, NH on Saturday, June 18 for a 150 lap event.

Oxfords Plains Speedway PR: NASCAR STAR KYLE BUSCH ANNOUNCES RETURN TO TD BANK 250 ON JULY 24

OXFORD, Maine (April 20, 2011) – Kyle Busch made quite an impression in his first two TD Bank 250 attempts.

In 2005, he led the race twice for a total of 61 laps. In 2006, Busch looked poised to win the event when his motor expired while leading the event.

Kyle is coming back and will be looking for a victory in 2011.

Today, Oxford Plains Speedway and Kyle Busch Motorsports announced that Kyle has entered the TD Bank 250 on July 24 and the Brackett Mechanical/RB Performance PASS 150 on July 23. New England racing fans will have two chances to see Busch compete against the region’s best competitors.

“It’s no secret that I love to race, so I’ll be spending my weekend off from the Sprint Cup Series in July running the late model races at Oxford Plains Speedway,” said Busch. “The track is a lot of fun to drive. It’s very flat, the corners are very round and the straightaway’s aren’t very long. Bill Ryan and his staff treated me excellent during my first two trips to Oxford and the fans there are great. I had one of the fastest cars and led a bunch of laps both years I ran the TD Bank 250 for Steve Perry and SP2 Motorsports, but we weren’t able to seal the deal. This year we decided to bring our own KBM Toyota Camry’s. Hopefully, the third time will be the charm.”

“Kyle is a great racer no matter what kind of car he is in,” Oxford Plains Speedway Owner Bill Ryan said. “Our fans loved seeing Kyle race in the TD Bank 250 in 2005 and 2006 and now will have another chance to see him try and win in 2011. Making things even more exciting this year is the fact that Kyle is racing in the PASS race on Saturday night. He will be a threat to win in both events,” Ryan added.

Since 2004, TD Bank 250 fans have been treated to seeing NASCAR’s elite compete against the region’s best short track pilots. In addition to Kyle Busch, fans have seen Matt Kenseth, Kurt Busch, Denny Hamlin, JJ Yeley, Ricky Craven, Kevin Lepage, Terry Labonte, Kevin Harvick, Kenny Wallace, Steve Wallace and Brad Keselowski try to win the TD Bank 250. Only Harvick has been able to take the checkers, doing so in 2007.

In 2011, the TD Bank 250 weekend will consist of three nights of exciting racing. On Friday, July 22, the Oxford Acceleration Series and PASS Modifieds will take center stage. Saturday brings the Brackett Mechanical/RB Performance PASS 150 accompanied by Oxford’s Strictly Stock and Mini Stock divisions. Saturday will also be the first day the TD Bank 250 Late Models hit the track for practice. Sunday, the TD Bank 250 green flag flies at 2 pm.

TD Bank 250 tickets are priced at $50, $40 and $30. A seating chart is available on online at www.oxfordplains.com. Tickets for the Brackett Mechanical/RB Performance PASS 150 are $25. Special discount ticket packages are available for the weekend. C’est Eddie MacDonald qui a remporté l’épreuve devançant Brian Hoar et Corey Morgan.

Patrick Laperle (7^e) et Karl Allard (20^e) ont été les seuls québécois/canadiens à se qualifier pour la finale. 79 voitures étaient ont tenté de se tailler une place sur la grille des 39 partants.

Sur place, Yvon Bédard, Éric Giguère, Justin Holtom, Pete Shepperd et Donald Theetge n’ont pu faire la grande finale qui payait 25,000$ au gagnant et 100$ pour chacun des tours menés.

Les seuls canadiens à avoir remporté l’épreuve au fil des 37 années d’histoire de l’épreuve ont été : Don Biderman, Junior Hanley, Derek Lynch et Dave Withlock.

SWEET TIES BEST FINISH IN TD BANK 250

Mechanical failure costs top 5 finish

Oxford, ME – Barre, VT’s Nick Sweet tied his best career TD Bank 250 finish of 6^th on Sunday’s 37^th running of the event at Oxford Plains Speedway. Sweet started his day drawing the final starting position, 11^th in his qualifying heat. It took Sweet only two laps to race 3-wide up to 5^th, and then made it to the fourth and final qualifying position by the end of the 15 lap heat race to qualify 23^rd in the 250. Sweet knew he had his work cut out for him after he drew his starting position. “I knew at that moment that I need to race hard, and probably have to utilize all of the grooves if I was going to qualify in round one, so I took some chances which paid off.”

Seventy-nine cars attempted to make the 39 car field, including NASCAR Nationwide point leader Brad Keselowski, who took a provisional starting position. Six time and defending ACT Late Model Tour champion Brian Hoar earned the pole position by winning the first qualifying heat.

Sweet started his surge ahead at the drop of the green flag, quickly racing his way into the top 15 using both inside and outside lanes on the 1/3 mile flat oval. It wasn’t long however before race leader Brad Leighton of Center Harbor, NH caught up to Sweet, putting him a lap down just after the half-way point. “We were just settling in a good rhythm at that point,” recalls Sweet. “We weren’t pushing it too hard but making our way up through.” “Brad was just so fast he lapped a lot of cars early.” Sweet would fight back in the later stages, passing Leighton to get back on the lead lap before the final caution on lap 203. “It felt really good to be able to race past Leighton to get my lap back, the caution fell at the perfect time so I could stay on the lead lap.” That final caution was for Leighton himself, who cut a right front tire going into turn four, spinning off the track in turns 1 and 2.

Pole sitter Brian Hoar, who had only taken one new tire on a lap 140 restart when most drivers took 4, pitted during that final caution, replacing his used up 3 Goodyear tires with fresh ones, for a final charge from 5^th position. Sweet restarted inside the top five with less just 47 laps to go, and was in fifth position on lap 249, behind leader Eddie MacDonald, Cory Morgan, Brian Hoar, and Brent Dragon. After crossing the line under the white flag, the rear end in the #88 broke, sending Sweet spinning off of turn one. The STJAUTO.COM Pontiac never made it to the line for the checkered flag, and Sweet was credited with 6^th position, the first car one lap down.

You could see the disappointment on Sweet’s face. “This was not the finish we were hoping for, we had such a strong car, I can’t believe we broke on the white flag.” This ties the team’s best TD Bank 250 finish, which was in his rookie year in 2008.

Mike Loschiavo, one of the owners of the Saint J Auto group understands the disappointment with the finish but was overall impressed with the performance. “The TD Bank 250 is such a tough race to qualify for. We were happy to see the Saint J Auto car in contention with some of the best drivers in New England.”

Sweet and the Saint J Auto team will change their focus back to their home track, Thunder Road International Speedbowl where they are in a heated championship point battle, trailing point leader David Pembroke by just 22 points with 6 point-counting races remaining this season. The next race is Thursday night.

un très bon début pour Éric Giguère

Voulant à tout prix essayer sa Chevrolet Impala V télé, Donald Theetge de Québec s’est rendu dans le Maine afin de participer au Oxford Plains 150, une manche du championnat américain de l’ACT qui a été disputée, cet après-midi. Theetge, dans cette épreuve remportée par Eddie MacDonald devant Tommy Ricker et Brian Hoar, a terminé en 19^e place.

Pour sa part, la recrue Éric Giguère de St-Georges-de-Beauce, s’est également rendu dans le Maine et ses débuts ont été assez concluants même s’il n’a pu se qualifier. Il y avait 53 voitures sur place. À noter que samedi soir, il était au circuit Ste-Croix/Riverside Speedway où il avait terminé septième lors de la première manche de la série Super Sportsman Lucas Oil.

Pour en revenir à Theetge, mentionnons qu’il a terminé en cinquième place dans la deuxième qualification alors que seulement les trois premiers accédaient directement à la finale. Puis, lors de la première consolation, une quatrième position a été suffisante pour prendre la 25^e sur la grille de départ.

Durant l’épreuve, il a même remonté jusqu’en 14^e vers la mi-course, mais c’est en dix-neuvième qu’il a rallié la ligne d’arrivée.

Tel que mentionnée, le jeune Éric Giguère n’a pas à rougir de sa prestation à Oxford. Après une dixième position lors de sa première confrontation, il a terminé neuvième en consolation juste en avant du vétéran Derek Lynch. Puis, dans le feature B, il a pris la dixième place devant Lynch, une fois des plus, et les réputés Eric Chase, Jean-Paul Cyr et Joey Pole. Ce n’est pas peu dire.

Tous deux se retrouveront en piste samedi soir prochain lors du lever de rideau de la série ACT-Castrol Edge qui aura lieu à l’Autodrome St-Eustache.

ACT - Eddie MacDonald Holds On For ACT Win at Oxford Plains

Oxford, ME – Eddie MacDonald of Rowley, MA took the checkered flag in the American-Canadian Tour 150 at Oxford Plains Speedway in Oxford, ME. MacDonald started in the fifth starting position and would take the lead on a lap 54 restart.

The 2009 Oxford 250 and ACT Invitational at New Hampshire Motor Speedway winner would lead the remainder of the race but not without pressure from hometown favorite Tommy Ricker of Poland, ME. Ricker got to the rear bumper of MacDonald several times in the final laps but didn’t have enough to get by while the two worked their way through lap traffic. The 2009 ACT Late Model Tour Champion Brian Hoar took third after leading the first 25 laps. MacDonald’s only other ACT Late Model Tour win also came at Oxford Plains Speedway in August of 2007.

John Donahue made a late race charge from his 31^st starting position to finish fourth followed by Tim Brackett rounding out the top 5. Travis Adams, Scott Payea, Brent Dragon, Jeff White and TJ Brackett rounded out the top ten.

The 150 lap event was completed in just over 52 minutes and was slowed by just one caution on lap 54.

With his win in the second event of the 2010 ACT Tour schedule. MacDonald joins opening day winner Nick Sweet as the first two qualifiers for the ACT Invitational at New Hampshire Motor Speedway that will be held on Saturday, September 18.

Several ACT Tour regulars failed to qualify for the feature including Jamie Fisher, Pete Potvin, Joey Laquerre, Chip Grenier, Craig Bushey, Derek Lynch, Jeff Zuidema, Eric Chase, Jean-Paul Cyr, Joey Polewarczyk, Jr., and Tyler Cahoon. A total of 53 competitors attempted to qualify.

The ACT Late Model Tour will be back in action on Friday, June 11 at Lee USA Speedway in Lee, NH for the makeup of the previously postponed NH Governor’s Cup 150. Post time at the 1/3 mile speedway will be 7:15pm.

FORD RACING ANNOUNCES $35,000 CONTINGENCY FOR 2010 ACT TEAMS

Waterbury, VT – Ford Racing announced an aggressive $35,000 contingency plan for the American Canadian Tour (ACT) for the 2010 campaign. The contingency program, tailored to support those teams that have chosen to compete in 2010 with the Ford powered S347JR engine in any ACT affiliate track weekly events, as well as the touring programs under the ACT sanction, is the largest contingency plan offered in the 25-year history of ACT.

“We want short track supporters across North America to know that we are very supportive of their efforts. Short tracks have been the backbone of stock car racing for over 50 years, and Ford recognizes their importance. We believe the contingency program that we have offered the ACT competitors and supporters reflects our support,” said Mike Delahanty, Program Manager-Sportsman Circle Track Racing for the Ford Racing Technology division of Ford Racing.

The Ford spec engine program was begun as a joint venture between Ford engineering and ACT in 2008. After months of research and development to make the Ford compatible with the existing motors that were exclusive in weekly and touring Late Model racing throughout the Northeast, the approved product was introduced at the beginning of the 2009 season. Long-time ACT competitor, and three-time King of the Road Champion at Thunder Road Speedbowl in Barre, VT, Cris Michaud, brought Ford Racing their first crate victory in mid-summer last season. 2009 Lee USA Track Champion Wayne Helliwell, and ACT regular young gun Joey Polewarczyk, Jr. from Hudson, NH, among others, have switched over to Ford for their 2010 campaigns.

The FORD Racing Blue Oval Challenge Program will offer several contingency programs to registered and approved competitors who compete in ACT Tour (US) events; ACT Castrol Série events, two ACT special events: the New Hampshire Motor Speedway Invitational II and the Vermont Milk Bowl at Thunder Road. The contingency program will award the following:

I ACT TOUR & ACT Castrol Série

Win $500

2^nd $250

3^rd $100

II ACT Special Events, NHMS ACT Invitational II, VT Milk Bowl

Win $1000

Best FORD $ 500

III ACT Ford Racing Blue Oval Cup

(A season-long point program encompassing all Ford participants throughout the ACT Tour, ACT Castrol Canadian Series, and all ACT affiliate weekly tracks. An end-of-season point tally will reward Ford-powered competitors finishing in the top 10 as follows):

1^st place- $3000 6^th place- $ 600

2^nd place- $1500 7^th place- $ 500

3^rd place- $1000 8^th place- $ 400

4^th place- $ 800 9^th place- $ 300

5^th place- $ 700 10^th place- $ 200

A total of 43 ACT events will be eligible for contingency during the 2010 race season, and all ACT affiliate weekly programs will be eligible including: Thunder Road in Barre, VT; Lee USA in Lee, NH; White Mountain Motorsport Park in Lincoln, NH; Oxford Plains Speedway in Oxford, ME; Seekonk Speedway in Seekonk, MA; Waterford Speedbowl, in Waterford, CT; Twin State Speedway in Claremont, NH; Kawartha Speedway in Peterborough, ON; and Capital City Speedway in Ottawa, ON. Other tracks may be added and eligible number of point-counting events and further details will be forthcoming from the ACT office to registered competitors.

“This program, designed by Ford, validates the vision we have been working on over the past decade at ACT,” said Tom Curley, President of ACT. “We have tried to bring one region of the country under a ‘universal’ set of rules that was cost efficient for race teams, promoters, and fans. The idea was to have a strong, cost effective race car for weekly racing that was still exciting to watch and also capable of running touring events in the region. Recent events like the TD Bank 250 at Oxford and the ACT Invitational at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway have certainly showcased how successful the format for these times has been. The Ford vs. Chevrolet rivalry is now officially re-established.”

The sensational young star of ACT racing, Joey Polewarczyk, Jr., said, “We made the switch to Ford for the 2010 season for a couple of reasons. We needed to try something different to compete with teams like Brian Hoar, Brent Dragon, and Brad Leighton in order to get an ACT Championship, which is our goal. If we are successful, we are hoping that Ford might also help us with some future goals we have in racing. This contingency incentive program is just great--not only the money involved, but racing against all the other potential Ford teams in a region gives our competitive juices just one more goal to go after.”

The ACT season opens on April 18, 2010 at the Lee USA Speedway in Lee, NH with the annual running of the NH Governor’s Cup 150. This will also be the first opportunity to lock in an invitation to the ACT Invitational II at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Saturday, September 18, 2010.
